I found her explanation in a comment far below for not posting the second part: 'I made a terrible mistake in using a jar that had previously contained cumin. it scented the entire batch and by then violet season was over. If I am home this spring, when the violets are out, I'll recreate the scented oil and film part 2. i'm very sorry that I couldn't redo it last spring. '
Well, this is where you need to make use of the magic of TV/Video. We can't smell it. So you could a) just finish the procedure, so that we know how to complete the process, and ignore that it has a cumin scent; b) finish the procedure, acknowledge the cumin mistake, and we can learn from your experience.
@@Thefreshp my dear, don't worry, with violets and cumin reminiscence you still have an interesting accord commonly associated with men perfumes but not only. Pair it with some camphoraceous plants or flowers, citruses, mint, gardenia and you can have a fougere for men
This is a wonderful way to extract the life essence from the flowers, from my reading and understanding of Cold Enfleurage (and I'm sure there are more than one way) extraction the process is to use glass or some sort of flat surface (not sure if it's because metals effect in any way or not, I know often in chemistry it's recommended not to use metals at times) and to spread the fats on both sides, stacking them as high as you want to go.. one on top of the other. The flowers die and give up their essence after 3-4 days and that's when you change the flowers, replacing them (and I know IT'S A LOT of flowers) 10-20 times to fully saturate your fats, once your fats are completely saturated or you're satisfied with saturation level or used all your flowers, you then gather your fats into a large sanitized mason jar w/lid and add in 2-3 times the volume of your fats - 90% Ethyl alcohol (the kind you can drink, in liquor stores it's called Everclear, or you can use perfumer's alcohol which is rather expensive and hard to find, the reason you don't want to use Isopropyl or rubbing alcohol is because it has it's own aroma). You then allow time for the alcohol to pull the oil from the fats and separate. I will be doing a Cold Enfleurage of Rose or maybe Tuberose starting in the next day or two and will make videos along the way, so if you're interested in following along you can subscribe to my channel!
Fabulous, thank you so much. I'd like to add that violets are easily crushed, which changes their aroma, so stacking some flowers might not be the best. Thank you for completing this process. I'd love to put your links below this video and get my interested subs over to your channel. Yay.
As I've been reading more it seems that different flowers give up their life/ release aroma after a different number of days according to each flower, I think that I've settled on Jasmine (if I can find some) since I think it will blend well into a fragrance I'm creating, hopefully I'll be picking some up later today.

I hope that'll help you out... I will see if I can find some information on the actual essential oil and I may return with some helpful chemistry/laboratory technique that can help you out.
Loved the first part, but I can't find the second one even after clicking on the video above as instructed. Can you please post a link? Also, I was wondering if one might warm the oil just a bit to be thinner, add the flowers, and mix them in a blender then letting it sit for 48 hrs. The blended flower then has more surface area with which to transfer the scent into the oil. Then strain out the flower bits in slightly warmed oil. Would this work? Thanks for letting me know!
Can't wait to see how it comes out. My wife loves violets, she would enjoy this. If it works for you I imagine I will give it a try in a couple weeks when our violets come in.
Wouldn't it be just easier to fill a glass jar with as much violets as possible, pour in a fragrance free or low fragrance oil like grapseed oil. Allow this to steep for a week or two, then strain through a cheese cloth into another bowl the oil, making sure to squeeze as much oil out of the violets as possible. Then fill another jar with fresh violets again and pour the first batch of violet infused oil into this. Repeat until you get desired frangrance. If you want a thicker application, melt some beeswax and add to the infused oil blend whilst whisking to create a cream or balm. I would also add in some 100 proof vodka to preserve and prolong the violet smell.
This is why there is no part 2: 'I made a terrible mistake in using a jar that had previously contained cumin. it scented the entire batch and by then violet season was over. If I am home this spring, when the violets are out, I'll recreate the scented oil and film part 2. i'm very sorry that I couldn't redo it last spring. '

Aww see, now why did you have to mention home made ice cream? Now it's going to be on my mind until I go ahead and make some. Nothing quite like vanilla bean ice cream! :)
Ok, well that doesn't help my new craving at all LOL. I would love to see a video on your recipe. I made a cinnamon ice cream with vanilla bean about a year and a half ago that I loved. Knowing how you like your cinnamon, I'm betting you would enjoy it too. I ate it all before I got a chance to try it on apple pie, but I bet it would have been an amazing addition to it.
Could you melt the oil and crush up the flowers, put them in a jar together and have a hydrating oil/perfume with pedals in it? Or would that go bad pretty quickly?
Healing with Reiki Sorry. I made a grave mistake and put the violet oil into a jar that had previously held cumin. We left town for a month and when I went to process the oil, the cumin had overpowered the violet. Violets are seasonal and only out for a couple weeks, at most, so I've been waiting all year to shoot part two and now we're in Mexico and I've missed violet season again. Ugh. That will teach me a lesson on shooting a video in parts.
Hi! I noticed you had some chickens! What breeds do you have? The white one kind of looked like a cream legbar. I was just interested because we are thinking about getting chickens!
Many hands make light work, I think.. I bet it smells good. Oh and could you have used a rolling pin to force them into the oil.. or maybe ferment some..
I think my inclination would have been to stir them into the oil. then warm it gently to strain the petals out. but i guess the heat could damage the aroma.
I'm going to do this with my Tuscan jasmine. It smells sooo good. Also, sweet peas, roses, linden, Lily of the valley, gardenia (cape jasmine) and those snowdrops that smell like honey. All fragrances that are hard to find in bottled perfumes.
Oops. I see now what happened, have you a name or a link for the technique that followed? Thanks again! Here in England, violets flower a little longer, all summer in my garden - so a bit more time.
I don't know if you have tried this since, but I think probably what went wrong is that the layer of flowers is too thick. You really just want the opening of the flower down on the coconut oil in a single layer and change every 24 hours instead of 48
Now.. couldn’t you warm the coconut oil until it becomes liquid, then press the oil to separate from the flowers, then drop new flowers into the warm oil? It seems the warmth of the oil would draw the scent out of the flowers.
At the Fragonard perfume factory in Grasse, France the flowers were placed one by one opened and face down on the oil. Much less flowers were used and they were changed everyday for many days. I think a lot of waste occurred by harvesting all at once and smashing them all in the pan without direct contact with the oil. Hope you do try again. Your Violet patch is lovely.
Yes, lots of wastage and too many flowers picked at once. Flowers are placed individually face down I believe. And can't the leaves also be used? Llovely to see so many violets thanks
I hate I'm just seeing this video because my question is how long does the fragrance last on your skin? My favorite scent for years was rose but I just ordered essential violet oil for a natural fragrant oil, and OOMMGG it smells like Angels I love love love the scent.
Sir which grad ethail Alcohol we are use in perfume...??? 》Because Many qualitys are available in ehail Alcohol. For example. (1)Ethail Alcohol 95% Dinatured (2)Ethail Absolute Alcohol So kindly i request you sir please tell me which grad Ethail Alcohol we will use in perfume.
Wouldn’t it better to spread the flowers on the pan then slightly warm to melting and pour over the petals, it will go solid very quickly and then let it sit the 48 hours? The warmth would start the process quicker. And then when done, slightly warm and pour the oil through a colander to collect the spent blooms. Just saying...coconut oil melts at a very low temp - in the summer in non air conditioning it is almost an oil at 85-95 F. It wouldn’t affect anything and might help to get more out of blossoms.
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but doesn't seem to be, did part two ever get made? I've looked through the whole list, and can't find it, if it was never made - could you share what should have happened next please? I have, however, found lots of other videos I will be watching - you have a lovely style on camera!
Looks like it's going to be me and you making lavender enfleurage this summer! I don't know the best way to extract lavender, but it's an east fragrance to capture. I think you can even use water to extract it. I'll research it and do a video. I LOVE lavender and use the oil a bunch.
Would it not be easier to heat the oil and flowers, then strain, instead of picking the flowers off the cold oil? Or is there a reason you do it this way?
Forest Grace If you read down through the comments, you'll see my reply. I had a container failure. I was going to make part II this spring, but we were in Mexico and I missed the season. I'm going to see if I can recreate it it with lavender and film the process so you can see what step two looks like even if it isn't with violets.
FRESH PRINCESS Maybe you can add that information in the description of this video ? I searched your whole site looking for the video -- How about just saying in the description above that Part II is not available ?
FRESH PRINCESS The other option is taking this video down and then when the Lavender is done you can put both videos up. It's just time consuming for someone trying to find out how to do this (which I was really happy to come across your video) only to find out that the other part doesn't exist .. just a thought.
Kat Khatibi I had a terrible mishap when I was processing the oil. I wrote about it in a comment below. I'm going to redo the final processing this spring when I can redo the experiment. Thanks for watching.
Since the video for the second part is not done yet, can you just explain the second part? Like, what do you mean by "the oil is washed with alcohol"? Thank you.
maria calderon You add about 2 tablespoons alcohol to the oil and stir it and stir it. The essential oil will float to the top when the coconut oil is below it's solidifying temp. Then you pour off the alcohol and evaporate it leaving just the essential oil.
Your picking flowers and we still have a foot of snow on the ground and it was -4 this morning here in wi. I didn't realize Washington or Oregon " can't remember what state you live in" was that different than Wisconsin in how fast the seasons change.
i guess if you used glass trays would be much better cause that metal does react with the oil or the flowers in terms of time. just a suggestion darling
I can't discount the value of involving the children in this project, but I was wondering if it would harm the fragrance if you warmed up the sheet & poured off the oil.
Hi, i love your video, but cant seem to find the second part. Would you be so kind as to advise me on where I find it. I would love to try this at home. Thank you!!
sam Sampio Hi Sam, thanks for your kind request. I am so sorry but I put the oil into a contaminated jar (that had previously help cumin) and it overwhelmed my oil before I could 'wash' it with alcohol. I was going to make part II this year, but we were in Mexico during violet season so I was unable to. From what I understand, you cover the oil with grain alcohol and stir and knead and stir until the essential oil infuses the alcohol. Then you evaporate off the alcohol and you're left with essential oil. I haven't tried it yet but maybe I should this summer with lavender or another fragrant flower and post the results. Thanks for watching and let me know what you find.
Thank you love for your kindness. I bungled the experiment AGAIN this year. Ugh. I sat the flowers on a table and forgot them and they molded. That was at the end of violet season. Bummer. Maybe I'll try and recreate it with lindon flowers this coming month.
I'm obsessed with a violet oil I picked up at a renaissance fair. He says if anyone claims to sell a pure violet oil, they're lying so I was very encouraged by this. Did it not turn out? Is that why you didn't finish it?
+Tamara Forrester I left town and forgot about it whaaaaa. I have to try again next spring. The season is short. I'm obsessed too. I bought a violet Perfume in Italy that makes me smell like heaven. There is no better scent. I'm with you. Subscribe. I'll try again in the spring.
I first learned about this process after having read (and many years later, watching the film) "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer." I have decided that my first enfleurage experiment is going to be the fantastic LINDEN TREE. I have several fragrances I want to try and capture, but if you have never smelled a linden tree, you are truly missing olfactory heaven!
BelfastBailey You are a wonderful soul. I just looked them up. Bees love them, they grow in my zone, they have tannins so I can use the leaves to brew kombuch and the flowers make a delicious tea. Thank you. I'm going to the nursery to see if I can get one.
Unfortunately, the darned linden tree that I know about in my immediately vicinity has not bloomed for the last 2 years (or I have missed it). It is aggravating, but thankfully it bloomed 3 years ago and I was able to follow my nose LITERALLY! I was walking up and down the street and walking through yards inhaling deeply, turning and backtracking when the aroma dissipated and finally a guy says, "Can I help you?" I said I was trying to locate a smell in the air. He said, "I think it's my tree." I said, "Oh, I doubt it." He laughed and said, "Come stand under it." I was about knocked out with the scent of heaven! He laughed and then realized who I was and I recognized him. We were friends from childhood...hadn't seen him in years. Sorry...long-winded, but that is my linden story. A smell from my grade school days that I could never put a name to...and at the age of 43, I found it through reconnecting with a long lost friend. It was a very good day that summer! :-)

I'm going to do this with my Tuscan jasmine. It smells sooo good. Also, sweet peas, roses, linden, Lily of the valley, gardenia (cape jasmine) and those snowdrops that smell like honey. All fragrances that are hard to find in bottled perfumes.
A gyöngyvirág mérgező ezért nem teszik parfümbe.
Did you do it? I've been wanting to do honeysuckle and ginger, I used a spray in high school but it isn't made anymore
wouldn't it be easier if you warm up the coconut oil enough to become liquid then add the flowers?
Also, could you tell me the name of the convent in Rome that had the rendered flower essences?
Yes, it's farmacéutica di Santa Maria Novella.
Oops. I see now what happened, have you a name or a link for the technique that followed? Thanks again!
Here in England, violets flower a little longer, all summer in my garden - so a bit more time.
where is the second part??
I really need to make a perfume.
nd I loved ur idea of making it with violets
+Mehak Malhotra Ah, if you read down I answer this question multiple times.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hello from New Zealand, our violets grow well but don't flower well..Any suggestions as to why or what they need. Love this video ..thank you
At the Fragonard perfume factory in Grasse, France the flowers were placed one by one opened and face down on the oil.
Thank you for that important info I was just about to harvest my entire patch!
🌺🌺🌷🌷Очень красивое видео. К сожалению так и не поняла получилось ли у вас духи?)) Я пытаюсь делать в алькитаре. Но и этот метод мне интересен
(1)Ethail Alcohol 95% Dinatured
(2)Ethail Absolute Alcohol
So kindly i request you sir please tell me which grad Ethail Alcohol we will use in perfume.
You are so lovely when talk about te art of making perfumes....Thabks you and my congratulations Madame for you lesson.
Nope. Heat destroys the delicate violets.
Every year i go out to collect violets for syrup, tea, skincareproducts and salads... now there is one more thing on my list for next year😮 thank you!
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but doesn't seem to be, did part two ever get made? I've looked through the whole list, and can't find it, if it was never made - could you share what should have happened next please?
I have, however, found lots of other videos I will be watching - you have a lovely style on camera!
I just planted Lavender. Do you think this would work with lavender? I've never grown violets but mow I may have to try.
Looks like it's going to be me and you making lavender enfleurage this summer! I don't know the best way to extract lavender, but it's an east fragrance to capture. I think you can even use water to extract it. I'll research it and do a video. I LOVE lavender and use the oil a bunch.
I thought of another question...Can you re-use the coconut oil?
Reuse the coconut oil? As in soaps or for lotion/lip balms, of course. It's the wonderful bi-product.
Your Voice is soooo Chill, it's very relaxing to watch this video. I will try this!!! Thanks!
alma eufracio Thank you.
This is a great video!
Hi
Would it not be easier to heat the oil and flowers, then strain, instead of picking the flowers off the cold oil? Or is there a reason you do it this way?
Ive read that heat destroys the delicate essence of the flowers. You can heat only after the flowers have been removed.
what a nice family with lovely kids and great teamwork’s May God bless them all
Can you please send me the link to video #2 , Im a teacher and I want to try this with my students.
I love how relaxing your farm looks. I've lived on a farm my whole life, and it makes me second guess leaving 😅
Kudos to you for handling very well the small species of human kind.
Fresh P where is the second video to this ? I look through all your videos and don't see it.
Where is part 2?????????? Please?????
Just found this video. How did it turn out? I can't seem to find the second part. :)
Kat Khatibi I had a terrible mishap when I was processing the oil. I wrote about it in a comment below. I'm going to redo the final processing this spring when I can redo the experiment. Thanks for watching.
Can we use any flower of aur own choice with this recipe?
Since the video for the second part is not done yet, can you just explain the second part? Like, what do you mean by "the oil is washed with alcohol"? Thank you.
maria calderon You add about 2 tablespoons alcohol to the oil and stir it and stir it. The essential oil will float to the top when the coconut oil is below it's solidifying temp. Then you pour off the alcohol and evaporate it leaving just the essential oil.
Thank you. wow, that's a lot of work, but if iyou say it's worth the effort I'll try it next spring
Your picking flowers and we still have a foot of snow on the ground and it was -4 this morning here in wi. I didn't realize Washington or Oregon " can't remember what state you live in" was that different than Wisconsin in how fast the seasons change.
We're not maritime, being inland a bit, but our climate is pretty moderate with 4 true seasons. I'm in Oregon on the WA boarder.
Aaron A I live in N. Cal. (SF Bay Area) and the violets do quite well in a spot without afternoon sun.
Hi i just wanted to tell you that you look like a really kind person and i support you
I can't click on the part 2 above and I can't find it in the archives? Was it removed? :(
I'm so excited to see how the violet project turned out!
i guess if you used glass trays would be much better cause that metal does react with the oil or the flowers in terms of time. just a suggestion darling
ismahane adimi Good to know. Thank you.
Oh, I enjoyed this :)) It's very calming and I've got my exams, so it's really helpful. You've got a new subscriber! :))
Thank Love. Study hard!
I can't discount the value of involving the children in this project, but I was wondering if it would harm the fragrance if you warmed up the sheet & poured off the oil.
Could you do this with any flowers? Like jasmine, lavender, and rose?
***** Yes, certainly.
I love the way uh made it....wid children nd all
Hi, i love your video, but cant seem to find the second part.
Liked seeing the kids getting involved, but should have sped up that segment. Also, is there a part 2? Clicking on the video did nothing.
What a lovely video and a lovely family too.
Looking forward to seeing your experiment again
when the flowers are ready. x
Thank you love for your kindness. I bungled the experiment AGAIN this year. Ugh. I sat the flowers on a table and forgot them and they molded. That was at the end of violet season. Bummer. Maybe I'll try and recreate it with lindon flowers this coming month.
linden would be awesome. where do you find linden blossoms?
That sounds great. Looking forward to that. xx
BelfastBailey Ooh maybe I should plant one?
BelfastBailey You are a wonderful soul. I just looked them up. Bees love them, they grow in my zone, they have tannins so I can use the leaves to brew kombuch and the flowers make a delicious tea. Thank you. I'm going to the nursery to see if I can get one.
I bet it will.
THAT is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
