2024 Mercedes E-Class Review: Watch out BMW

  • The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is arguably the most important model in the German company's line-up. Sitting between the C-Class and flagship S-Class, it is a rival to the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, and aims to beat both with a combination of luxury and technology.
    In this CarGurus UK review, Vicky Parrott tests the plug-in hybrid E300e version of the E-Class, which is available in saloon or estate body styles and has a real-world electric-only range of more than 60 miles (against a claimed range of 72 miles). Could it be the perfect company car?

    2:56 3:52 the way those panels move when you press them screams PREMIUM QUALITY. Give it a couple of months and it will start creaking too, like a typical modern Merc.

      It’s a capacitive touch button dummy. It’s designed to depress as a single button would to give feedback.

    • @z00h
      @z00h 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@jaymum23 yeah, except that's not how haptic feedback works - a piece moving like that is making the feedback worse. It sounds like you work for their QC department.

      @@z00h I'll definitely be interested to see if it starts creaking. Had a 2019 C63 and the whole dash was creaky AF.

      Wether it is capacitive or not. It doesn’t look great.

    • @jaymum23

      @@z00h No, that’s literally how it works. You’ve never had a laptop with this type of button? It’s an asinine argument. Might as well say that traditional buttons will creak when they depress (which they do) and all cars with them are cheap.

    I've had every generation of E Class in the estate, and a few convertible models. Mercedes started dramatically increasing their prices in recent years and this is out of reach for me now

    • @jonathanpatrick1473
      @jonathanpatrick1473 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Apparently they have made a strategic decision to increase prices and reduce volume in an effort to move models from what is termed “Premium” to “Luxury” much like Porsche etc. and have priced a chunk of the market out of buying the brand as a result.

      I paid 3 years ago for my E-Class Cabriolet premium Plus,£42000 and now something similar and I mean not the same luxury ,costs around,£75000 and it looks and feels way cheaper than my model so almost double the price for way less quality , I really want to see where this is going to take them , funny thing is that my model is still very desirable and after 3 years I can still sell it for £36000 , but the new electric models you can buy for less than half with only one year

    This is the second TH-cam reviewer saying the “E class” badge is around since 1993. But I have a 1989 E class with a very clear badge that says 260 E. And before that we had a 240E from 1984. So I don’t understand the TH-camrs for their 1993 reference???

    It's a good thing that there's so many far cheaper good cars out there these days because these cars are so expensive that people who could once afford an E can no longer do so. It somehow makes it less interesting than when they used to launch a new version in the past.

    This car's styling is dating already. I really liked it when it was first revealed last year and I thought it looked really good, but to me now it just looks a bit old fashioned and over fussy. And all those Merc three pointed star references everywhere are just too much and somewhat embarrassing. Unbelievable that you can't get air suspension either in the UK. Is this just for the hybrid? Anyway, I was hoping to finally change my 2018 E class for a new one after not wanting to go for the hideous restyle that came around 2021, but I not going to, as I just love my car's unfussy, elegant styling and those gorgeous, simple rear lights with their double bar LED's. So classy. I will happily turn 70K reliable miles so far into double that over the next six years and wait for the next restyle.

      I recently commented on the quality of materials used and the question of reliability. I am a good BMW but I admire Mercedes Benz interiors of past cars main in the 90s and the amount of engineers that went into developing them. Now they are losing the things that made them special.
      Specially, back to engineering some of the Mercedes Benz cars have Renault engines and fake exhaust tips. I pay respects to Mercedes Benz engineers and fans, and Renault’s as well. But let’s think about the X Class for a moment. I think I do not have to say much. I was confused but interested to see how that was going to work.
      I feel your pain. But I think it is the age we live in. Marketing is king.
      BMW are going through their design issues and at time like these I look forward to being amazed by Mercedes Benz design and engineering but currently I can’t.
      Compact class I would choose BMW e46 and Mercedes Benz Class w204,
      Middle sized Mercedes Benz w124 and w211, BMW e39 and F10, g30
      Large Class Mercedes Benz S Class w140, w221 and w222. BMW 7 series from the 90s
      On Audi, S4/S5 b8/b8.5, Audi A8 d3/d4, Audi A6/S6/A7/S7 C7 and Audi A6/S6 C8.
