The interior of this car is so emotionless it’s crazy. A slab of glass, full of fingerprints. That’s it, that’s luxury? No, it’s the most distant thing from luxury to ever exist. Cars used to have analog clocks in the center of dashboard, proudly displayed, and now in their place a useless selfie camera that will NEVER be used for Zoom calls, let’s be serious. It’s crazy to me that the most prominent thing on the dash is a selfie camera, just goes to show the target of this “new luxury”: influencers wannabes who will feel so cool to take a selfie with their mercedes. And as the cost of production decreases, by removing every button and every fine material, replaced by glossy plastic… the prices are skyrocketing.
My OCD will explode my head. I once saw a Mercedes with finger prints under the sun with the screen turned off. It looked like a bear and a gorilla had been driving the car for weeks with the massive finger prints all over the huge screen. 🤦🏾♂

Hi Doug, some things you did not mention. First that a E53 E Performance will be coming out later in the year which will have 577 hp and 553 lb.-ft. of torque combined. That comes out before the E63 E Performance. Also you did not talk about the the Mercedes voice command in the car which is very important. You can ask Mercedes to do many things including setting the temperature, opening the panoramic roof, ambient lighting, weather and so on.
Haptic Touch volume slider ! Seriously MB, did you not know about the Cadillac CUE system and how miserable this touch thing was ! Except the shell, they are reinventing the wheel 😅
The most impressive thing about my 2019 E class was the stereo. $6k option Burmester sound stage. 26 speakers, 1,500 watts. If they still offer that in the E series, GO FOR IT. Absolutely insane.
I totally agree. But if you ever hear that particular system, it's worth it. I mean, you're already paying way too much money for a car to begin with. If you're buying a German car (not a fan), why not go all out? You're not in that dealership because you're poor, right? The E450 has one ace in the hole: the worlds best inline 6 cylinder. The mild hybrid system is a nice addition for crawling in traffic on ielectric power.
The year is 20XX: In the wake of the 5th Gen Tesla Model S, the car industry has followed their lead. The whole car is one giant screen. The doors are screens. The windows are see through screens. The steering, previously a wheel a few years back, is controlled haphazardly by a combination of touchscreen and voice commands. The seats in the latest generation of E class come standard with heat, ventilation, and wireless Apple CarPlay.
Doug, I think you missed one super annoying „feature“: the touch-sensitive steering wheel controls. I have them in my new GLC and I had the previous model. From my point of view: Get the physical controls back to the steering wheel, not so fancy, but more intuitive, easy to easy, more precise, less distracting. Regarding the volume controls beneath the center screen, I’m not sure if this applies to the E class as well, in the new GLC you haven’t have to use the slide function, but you can just hit the + and - icons to increase or decrease the volume.
Hey bro, I really appreciate your videos and reviews, but I think you should also cover the interior sound (speakers, sound tech. etc.) 🎶🎵 situation , especially in these luxury cars where the manufacturer thinks he understands the needs of every client while they are actually utterly failing at it. Just a friendly suggestion, it would help people a lot to know about a "detail" like that :D Keep up the good work man 🍻
You do NOT want to own anything like this after 5-6 years of ownership. I cannot imagine how much these silly screens cost. I replaced my radio screen and sound control module on my 2015 VW sportwagen and under warranty the dealer charged $2k. There’s absolutely NOTHING fancy about it. To replace those screens you’ll probably need a mortgage or break in to the IS treasury printing money building
Shame the new models have the interior quality of a much cheaper car. Had a '07 E500 and it was built like a tank, smelt amazing and the ride and the engine behavior was just butter in one word.
But the chinese cars itself are trash compared to an e class. Nice technology but at the end of the day the car is what matter and thats where all of these startups fail imo.
Sync 3 with wireless android auto via a Google pixel is still the best experience I have ever had in a car (even compared to a 2019 GLE). It just works, and isn't confusing.
I prefer knobs and buttons instead of blindly touch the screen while driving. As for the cabin camera, yeah no thanks, I don't want people spying on me, I already have my phone spying on me no need for the car to do the same, haha.
Rest assured that some kind of yoke is in the works at the Daimler headquarters. Don't say that slider idea out loud...wouldn't want to give them any ideas.

The "4 banger" in my 240 Diesel was no longer viable at about 110,000 miles due to low compression in one cylinder. A factory rebuild engine shipped in a wire cage from Germany and installed by a Mercedes dealer lasted about 10,000 miles before it developed low compress in one cylinder. A second factory rebuilt engine allowed the car to make it to 220,000 miles but it was a rusted through wreck by then with the interior falling apart too. I lavished attention and money on that car but that couldn't overcome the poor quality.

I have a 2014 E250 (it can go a 1000 miles with a tank of diesel), and I really appreciate the old fashioned buttons and levers. I've driven cars with all the controls on the screen, and I find them very distracting. With mine, I can reach down and move the temp level up or down without looking away from the road. It's an OPTION. Like Doug said.
It's available in the U.S. like that also. My Benz dealer here in California has a few without the super screen. No buttons though.

E-Classes have always had unique styling until the previous gen which looked like a bigger C-Class. But this new one really looks like a baby S-Class
Not Hyperscreen, MB calls it the 'Superscreen' in the new E-class. Probably because the screen behind the steering wheel is not part of the same giant bezel as the other two.
Exceptional review again! I have a C350, and there is still no other car I would want for a daily driver, and it's almost 10 years old now. It is exactly what I wanted and that has not changed.

it will never cease to amaze me how high end mercedes is but... they cant get rid of the orange peel in the paint. when $30k mazdas are coming out with something close to candy paint i feel like the standard for that should be much higher on a luxury vehicle
It's like how luxury brands charge extra for stuff like adaptive cruise control that a Toyota has standard. They know their customers aren't cross-shopping a Toyota and are willing to pay.
Where do you see orange peel paint?

Owned 4 E Class’s. 1 wagon and 3 other variants. Then went with a 5 series just for something different. The ride quality in the BMW was really an important. Wish it had pull out sun shade.
It’s crazy to me that the most prominent thing on the dash is a selfie camera, just goes to show the target of this “new luxury”: influencers wannabes who will feel so cool to take a selfie with their mercedes.

overal I think the interior looks better than that of previous models. more traditional, less gamingpc-y. just disappointed about the gauge cluster - still looks hideous. like someone propped up an iphone behind the steering wheel. doesnt look luxurious at all. hope they eventually go back to gauge clusters that are integrated into the dashboard. at least they did that with the center sceen and i must say it looks much cleaner.
Doug this whole video: "this is a mercedes e-class which, welllll is a mercedes e-class"
Decent looking car with an ocean of shiny black smudgy screens and plastics on the inside.

The E Class used to be very common here in Europe as a Taxi, today it was replaced by Skoda and Tesla.
And there are good reasons for that! MB isn't what it used to be!
@@mateschitz there are several reasons, an E Class its much more expensive than before. A Skoda Superb has the same, or more, room, its reliable and costs much less. And Teslas, are cheaper too and have much less runing costs.

I did not know that Mercedes has gotten the B58 in there. Good to know.
B58 has a proven reliability which is evident with aftermarket tuning, hitting 1200hp,1500hp when build kinda reminds me of the Toyota 2JZ GTE
Imagine buying this car and like 2 years later you find a Doug selfie in the infotainment's gallery
Finally a regular car review!
That trunk smacked some sense into Doug 😂
The screen looks like Windows Vista. Wouldn’t want it in my car, prefer some nice trim that you don’t have to clean every day. Looks dated already
Just a friendly suggestion, it would help people a lot to know about a "detail" like that :D Keep up the good work man 🍻
What happens in 15 years when the screen breaks and there aren’t any screens available because Mercedes quit making them?
You do NOT want to own anything like this after 5-6 years of ownership. I cannot imagine how much these silly screens cost. I replaced my radio screen and sound control module on my 2015 VW sportwagen and under warranty the dealer charged $2k. There’s absolutely NOTHING fancy about it. To replace those screens you’ll probably need a mortgage or break in to the IS treasury printing money building
You will scrap it in under 10 years and have to buy another one because this is good for the environment
Shame the new models have the interior quality of a much cheaper car. Had a '07 E500 and it was built like a tank, smelt amazing and the ride and the engine behavior was just butter in one word.
Is this the standard for luxury and elegance? Even the Chinese can make screens like this.
Feel like they are purposely using those tablets cause it's cheaper smh
i guess not anymore
Yes it is. No they can't
@@autograndeunlimited pretty sure they can, considering most screens are made in China.
You're not supposed to blindly touch the screen, you're supposed to take your eyes off the road, look at the screen and then crash.

It doesn’t. I own a 9 year old 200E and it’s still like new.
@@H2SO4H20 If that was a w123 240D then you did something wrong to that engine because no other engine in any other car anywhere has higher miles on them on avarage before junked.. :)

Or I can just turn the volume knob. With these new cars, your attention is forced on the screen rather than your surroundings. On Teslas, you can't even adjust the vents without going to the screen.
