Battery technology is finally getting better, and while it helps improving EVs, it has had the side effect of making hybrids much better! Instead of having 10-30 miles of EV range for a HUGE weight penalty, we now have cars like the new E Class that almost give 70miles real range!
And the benefits are obvious, EV mode for urban jobs, and when you need a good old reliable engine, its on tap!
And the new #mercedes #EClass is an all hybrid family, with every model either mild, to full plug-in like our car today. Which as I said promises 70miles electric, and as a #MercedesBenz what I found to be better than S Class in many ways too!
This is also the first Mercedes in this new Era that I’ve sat in and thought: this is built and designed like a Mercedes should be. The exterior is unique, and while that annoys some people, I think the E Classes have always brought quirky aesthetics to the Benz range, particularly with the lights. Our W214 continues this tradition with that light and grille treatment!
Inside, it’s also a notch above every other Mercedes in may opinion, despite the big screen. And thank goodness for that, because the E Class is super important car relied on millions as a daily car.
The the UK, the E starts around 55k for E200. And with everything getting expensive - today’s car is the 76k E300e AMG Line Premium Plus. You might gasp at the price, but this fully loaded E Hybrid is still cheaper than a base EQE, and every other new car is getting as expensive! Sadly, no 6 cylinder petrol in the UK, but there is a 6 cylinder diesel that can be had.
The E300e is a RWD full plug-in which pairs a 4 cyl engine, with a PSM Electric Motor, and a big 25.4KW battery! This gives us the following stats:
    204 HP engine
    129 HP emotor
    System output 313HP
    550NM
    6.4 secs
The more important figure however, is the range: Mercedes claims a range of around 70 miles, and we will test this and the ICE engine range properly on a road trip today!
Our standard plug ins come with AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. While AIR suspension and rear wheel steer are not in the UK, I found it not to be a bad thing as you’ll see!
We also have the Digital light option, which projects signs on the road, and the cool lighted grille - which looks awesome alongside the rear lights with star logos!
Inside you’ll find the Simplified MBUX super screen - which is 100% better designed than the Hyperscreen from the EQ cars. We also have the awesome 3D driver zone, which is literally the best digital screen I’ve ever used thanks to it almost seeming analog. I’ll also show you the Active ambient lighting option, Digital vents, and we’ll talk about 4D Burmester with DOLBY ATMOS SUPREMACY!
(Look out for some talk on the Exclusive edition - Like an S Class executive top spec E Class, and we will also recap the E53 AMG hybrid!)
Is this the most solid Mercedes Benz they have built lately, as I’ve claimed? And is this yet another nail in the coffin of an “all-EV” world? Let’s find out today!

me personally im still attached to the W213 E class Interior, its combination of screens and physical touch buttons are balanced really well, along with the ambient lighting which wasn’t OTT. However the W214 technology is mind blowing, little details like the air vents moving up and down, the ambient lighting resembling what controls you are putting are pretty clean, overall mercedes have stepped up in interior and quality as it seems especially in the W214 great video Raz! i love how in depth you go into car reviews, especially in this video 👌🏽

I think it's programmed correctly for a PHEV. It should try to squeeze out as much EV miles as possible. For a motorway trip, perhaps you should switch off the electric side when cruising on the motorway because the ICE will be efficient at that cruising speed in top gear. Then re-engage the PHEV in urban areas at either end of the trip for efficiency. No need to use electric on the motorway. It would be good to see mpg with that approach.

Great and informative video 😊 I have C300e which operates in hybrid, and other modes, exactly the same as the E class and my experience is the same in that the mileage of the petrol actually increases when driven in hybrid mode. Also with an electric range of 70 miles (often range given is 73) it is really practical for everyday driving but with reassurance of 2ltr engine for longer runs. The C300e has air struts on rear to manage weight of the battery and normal on front - surprised E class is not the same?
I would like to have heard a little more about front passenger screen and what it can do - ie Netflix etc
    Keep up the great work👍

I am a hardcore fan of the E-class, because it was the only Proper German Executive car that made it to India in the earlier days. But things have changed and even the S-Class is also manufactured in India itself. But in India we only get only 2 options, The straight-six Petrol and the 4 Cylinder Diesel hybrid here, also not much of tech options are available here. I just love Physical buttons rather than having the Hyper-screen, Even the steering doesn't feel as pleasant as the older generations but we dont have much options here apart in the Mild and Plug-in version. Still the car performs really well and the safety is also top-notch. I am really impressed by the Safety offered by Mercedes-Benz India.

15:12 I’m sorry, but it didn’t mess up anything. It did exactly what you asked it for: it chose the optimum strategy for the route you had selected. It assumed you could recharge at destination and thus decided to maximize battery utilization so you don’t stribe with half a battery, which would be a waste og fuel. If you had decided to go to Glasgow or another longer drive, it would probably have selected a different strategy.

    • @pankajnaik2708

No . On highway it always selects EV mode till you reach 140 KMH , above that speed it converts into combustion engine .
So if you want to run on petrol then you need to select Sports mode manually to drive

That superscreen/hyperscreen loses it's appeal very quickly. It sucks more the more I see it. I think the regular screen with wood with backlit stars/AMG logo is way classier and will never get old. Don't get the screens people, because you won't get back the extra cost for it as the car ages.

Really like the look of this interior and even though I don't care about dolby atmos, most music is made in mono anyway, I'd love to hear the Burmeister. 10" subwoofer factory installed is pretty cool. The only thing is I kind of like my cars sporty. I'm not sure this would be that. Still, so tempting.

I spent on the others 10s of thousands in repairs. Most were on the S420. I bought a Lexus and never looked back. It’s a shame because they are not reliable, make way to many models and share responsibility in why the S Class is hammered by poor resale. I have to say the new 300E is a beautiful car.

I own an S500, the 3D screen is useless if you are one needing reading glasses, think sunglasses, no, progressive reading glasses do not solve the issue. Also, your hands need to be at proper wheel position otherwise constant on screen warnings. The Head up display, again useless, big diagram with MB GPS, very small diagram using Apple Maps, no HUD info using Google maps. So it’s relative to your favorite GPS. Also, HUD displays exactly what you see one inch lower on driver display. HUD does not even display turn signals, I know, no one uses them anyways. I agree, the performance selector is too distracting. Volume button is absolutely annoying, hope it’s better on E class. Other than that, I agree completely with your review, E class is a superb car, considering E450 as my next car here in Canada.

Oh dear. They have moved the charging port to the nearside rear wing. That one detail alone completely rules it out for me. My 2018 E350 E has the charging port on the rear bumper, which is perfect for me as I reverse the car into my garage. In fact, this will probably rule it out for anyone who uses a garage and will be awkward on a driveway as well as you will have to walk round to the passenger side to plug it in. Why didn't they at least move it to the drivers side rear wing for us in the UK? Sorry Merc, I won't be upgrading to one of these.

I am an e-coupe owner. My take is that I generally agree that this is the best new-gen car to come out for a multitude of reasons, but it's missing a few things to achieve greatness. Luckily, this w214 seems like the exception. It looks like Mercedes is generally going backwards in quality despite the infamous creaks/rattles of last-gen (e.g., C-class, CLE, SL). EXTERIOR: on the looks, I think it's very pretty and could have easily been ruined. While not deal breakers, I dislike the shiny black plastic around the grille and the MB star taillights. I don't hate the grille just because it incorporates EV style - I dislike it because it looks frumpy and I'm on a crusade against shiny black plastic. On the taillights, I just think they are tasteless. Gorden Wagener is a genius, but his obsession with "fashion" is detrimental. "Fast fashion" (e.g., repeating Gucci and LV logos on low-end products) = faux luxury. People buy that stuff if they want to show off a brand rather than possess real quality (perfect for c-class customers). However, this same style is all over the new EQE Maybach SUV and it's gross. To me, the E-class's taillights are the same thing. Maybe they will improve in the facelift. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the exterior.
INTERIOR: I also agree that this is the best new-gen interior, but has a few things I would need changed in order to be a customer. The last-gen interiors were GOAT design but lacked some quality. I particularly liked the Gt-4door, S-coupe, and W213 E-class. I feel that those interiors still hold up well, and the technology isn't even that outdated compared to other OEMs. With regard to the 214 E-class, it is the only car to retain some of that fantastic architecture, but has updated tech & better materials. I very much appreciate that this is positioned closer to the S-class. The Superscreen (actually, all passenger displays) is a useless gimmick. Luckily, you can still get the stunning décor instead (and also get rid of that dumb selfie camera). The only real downsides are that it's locked into the same off-the-shelf components plaguing the latest MB cars. I am on a crusade against piano black - it never looked good - too delicate - too cheap to be in any luxury car (nevermind an E or S class). The modules surrounding the seat controls on the doors should be some other material!!! Similarly, the capacitive touch steering wheel and button module (below the screen) add nothing, but make the experience much less ergonomic and luxurious than nice feeling metal buttons. There are rumors that these components will be phased out! My fingers are crossed for the facelift. It does feel like MB somewhat learned their lesson because you can get a real wood center console rather than the piano black one like in the S-class. Personally, I also miss the rotating tweeters in the high-end Burmester system. I just think they are so cool. I am very tempted to search for a nicely specced w213 E-63 or S-560 with those and just ignore all these annoying trends in the car industry. It's a shame that the CLE is unacceptable as a replacement for my coupe because of the c-class interior. No lie, I was recently in a Nissan Sentra - and it was far nicer than the new C-class.
Overall, I'm thinking to replace my E-coupe with a BMW 850xi or S-560 when the time comes. Before that though, I want a second car with 4-doors. I am very tempted to wait to see if the facelifted W214 solves my gripes with the capacitive touch/piano black. In that case, I would get a 6cyl with no superscreen (loaded with the brown diamond-stitch extended leather). I am also very happy that Mercedes is introducing more fun colors beyond the S and G classes! The new green and brown are stunning. I can't stand just black/black but I understand that's not most people. If my concerns are not addressed in the w214 facelift, I'm hoping I can still find a low mileage S560 or E63 with a really nice spec (not black, high-end Burmester, & exclusive leather). The fact that Mercedes came out with this is a ray of hope that the next decade of Mercedes will not be trash.

    • @bellumCretatus
      @bellumCretatus 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@hoverauto2 on newer cars that mode was removed. Sport+ mode keeps the ICE running all the time and some access power might be used for charging the battery, but it is used up asap. The only way to get the car to charge the battery, is to put it in battery hold mode and drive it super hard with navigation active, then the car uses the electric motor to boost power and at the end of the trip, the car charges the battery back to the point when battery hold mode was activated.

Unfortunately, them making all cars mild-hybrid and hybrid makes it just a first owner car... Many people know, and can confirm, that manufacturers are putting many programmed faults to happen at certain mileage and time, which are too expensive to fix... So "saving envoriment" but also shortening the lifespan of the car, which does a much greater damage to the envoriment... Such a shame for such good looking and good car...
