Oh yea, I am one of those viewers who watch for the history and technical stuff mostly. Find me another channel where a major factor in French,British, American, German, Chinese, Japanese and the list goes on can be discussed in such interesting detail. All the while avoiding any political issues of who was using them outside of which side of the war it was in. I have always appreciated that they treat the guns as tools of men, they have no political stance of their own.

Have you ever considered an episode (or several) on the industrialization of small arms manufacturing in the last 1800s - early 1900s?
It seems there is a large amount of useful historical context in the discussion of the transition to factories and machining instead of individual craftsman.

This is something I have been thinking about a lot. I did my masters in economic history on industrialization of the log house building in Finland, and after seeing a Forgotten weapons episode about early pistols I have been regretting I left my University. That would have been really interesting field. Well, interesting enough that someone have probably already been studying it, but you know... It is a huge undertaking thought. A massive task to cover properly without good financing. Maybe I'll just search for some previous studies and read those for fun.

It was given to my granddad in 1918 when Germans retreated in Switzerland when leaving the Colmar salient.
An officer of a medical unit asked a young soldier for some food, as he brought bread, cheese and cold cuts with a basket of beer bottles the officer thanked him handing him his pistol.
That young soldier was my Granddad.

Uh-oh! That Lewis Gun at the end has an Othiasizer on it. It turns the sound of the gunshots into Othias saying "BANG", in an attempt to either confuse your enemy, or to cause them to start laughing so uncontrollably that they cannot properly fight in the unfortunate event where War Were Declared!

Actually, Othias has theorized that one of the methods YT is employing in their crusade against our civil rights is running video soundtrax thru a spectrum analyzer looking for the sound of gunshots. Hence his test to see if this vid gets taken down rapidly...

There seems in my mind some shared features with this pistol and the H&K P7M8 (PSP) which has a similar striker system, a recoil spring around the barrel, and the slide hold open feature that was a flat tab on the side near the trigger well. Add a gas piston to the Sauer 1913 and it could be the little older brother of the P7M8/PSP

Interesting it found itself into the war but I can completely see it being a officer only weapon. Or particularly useful for plain-clothes, concealed carry operations. The amusing parallel to that in modern times is the navy m11 a1, a sig Sauer 229 ("upgraded") for us navy use fits the same niche (for some units).

My grandfather bought a Behördenmodell it's nice because it's safety doubles as a slide hold open. It's still in the family and its in my mothers right now and I'm next in line for it.

Be careful - the barrel width is slightly wider than modern ammo - eg : 1990's Fiocchi can send the brass down the barrel (ach!) and the secondary trigger safety is twit-itchy) - of course ANYTHING w/ 3-Ryk marks is sabotaged : )

Have you guys covered the Mauser 1898 small ring action 1st pattern and 2nd Pattern Karbiners?
    They had 18.5 inch barrels?

This video is awesome. I inherited one of these and have used it minimally but is a very interesting piece. If someone could discuss the proper ammo for it. Was it designed for fmj? Or was it designed for lead rounds the rifling is very shallow.

Could the strange mag safety button be depressed while the mag is not inserted and so make it possible to work around the mag safety?
(trying to come up with a reason for the button)

Maybe I'm the weird one here, but I actually like the idea of the trigger acting as a slide (or bolt) release. Not so much in this particular example where it's the ONLY slide release and the hold open is also in the trigger guard, but stripped of those less than stellar 'safety' features it seems to me to be a decent way to simplify operation of a defensive weapon. One less button to worry about remembering to press when trying to get your CCW back into action under stress oughta make the gun easier to use in the event it's needed, especially for less experienced shooters.

Cant you pull back on the slide to release it? Bypassing pulling the trigger? If so wouldn't it be a feature that could be used only by those wishing to?
