Omg I almost fell off my chair when Ian's head popped up on the screen the first time as you mentioned how difficult it was to get your hands on the gun LOL
As a Spanish American ( My Paternal GrandFathers ‘ Family sailed from Spain to Galveston Texas in the early 1800s ) I find Your videos on Spanish Fire Arms most fascinating and satisfactory . You have done these weapons and their inventor a tremendous amount of Justice . Thank You very much .

You help me get better everyday.working on ashirt to Fly the colors as soon as I get a credit card back. Watching! !thanks!
@Chris_Wooden_Eye This was a dirty cadence march back in WWI that soldiers sang while marching. Just like the dirty cadences we marched with in the 80s before the US Army became more Politically Correct after I first got out. LOL!!
Honestly, I think we are still coming back to see Mae handle firearms, listen to Othias try to pronounce foreign languages, and to hear him say "War Were Declared". Keep making your awesome videos, guys.
About midway through January I started watching this series back to back whenever I had free time. I finally got to this episode today, and I couldnt be happier. I love this series and all the amazing work you guys put into it
I tried out my mint 8 shot version at 25m last weekend. Target was untouched after 2 mags 😶 I guess I need to bring it back to “minute of trench” distance. Conversely my Rubies group quite respectably up to 25m.
Othias, Not everyone would swoon to hear the fortunes of the Echeverria family and their many defunct, certified past videos. Surely you know this, and yet you take the time to go into every detail you can possibly find, crafting each video to be a definitive source. The research must at ti.es be frustrating and exhausting. Keep up the good work. There will come a time in perhaps another hundred years, when the bulk of what is known about firearms of this era will be based on you and Mae's work. Thank you for building such a quality product in the C & Arsenal series!
There's something about that opening shot that makes me cackle. Maybe it's the appearance of the gas masks combined with the kepis, maybe it's the pose of the guy with the pistol and how casual it looks, but it feels like a good picture format.
I have enjoyed this series greatly. It also helped me to identify the gun my grandfather brought back from WWI. Spanish made 6 shot. Thank you very much.
One of the criticisms often levelled at Eibar pistols is the quality of the metal. That recoil spring suggests Star were something above the average in the area.
rewatching this episode again, I can't help but notice the similarities of this with the desert eagle. specifically with the fixed barrel and the kind of half slide design. maybe it helped inspire it a bit?
I used to watch this show for my love of learning history. Now I truly watch it to see what shenanigans were going on when War Were Declared. EDIT: To be clear, the dry humour of the cast(crew?) are hilarious to me, I could listen to the weird Navy/Workshop/GunCulture of Mark on Anvil all day long also.
Perhaps mentioned in previous episode, the Eibar manufacturers were copyist of the first order. I believe Spanish patent law, at least at that time, honored patents if the patented firearm was made in Spain, so knocking off Belgian, French, US, and so on, designs was legal in that sense. I'll guess with France's need for firearms, patent law would be either ignored or circumvented. I have also heard this even applied to the name "Star" which sounded much like "Steyr".
When I first saw the thumbnail for this video it was just a quick glance and I nearly had a heart attack. Sadly I was wrong. The episode on the handgun that shall not be named better be a 6 hour epic.
I was just thinking to myself last night, "I wonder when the next C&Rsenal episode is gonna drop" then Bang! (no pun intended) wake up to a new episode :) So glad you're still going despite the crap.
Eibar, where guns are given Damascene gold!!!! Most beautiful and ornate gold "etching" (it's not etched they use gold wire and gold sheet and a hammer to make a type of filigree in the shape of animals and flowers with scroll work, the Toledo style is more moorish). It's wonderful stuff.
You keep suggesting books I MUST HAVE (I own an Astra) and on a month where I had to pay the plumber too! ARGH!!!! my credit card is hurtin.. great presentation folks....
Hmm, if the barrel were only to protrude a few millimeters past the frame, it would really look like a fairly typical autoloader. I wonder if they produced any like that?
I agree with y’all’s assessment. The takedown and caliber leave me a bit concerned, but the fact that it’s fairly capable with reloading and such it does get a yes in my book
OR we get better at our jobs, gather more data and resources, develop an audience understanding of just what the rest of the world really was doing at the time, and have more time to possibly visit Springfield. Anyone who would leave after a 1911 episode wouldnt watch much else now. It is more about taking an already well known gun and getting it right, which gets harder the more people have written speculative bullshit about.

And please enunciate better when you say that Mae gets to shoot the pistol, I can not bring myself to tell you how that comes out in the close captioning.
"The extractor is also conveniently...the extractor"
Powerful words.
I personally would like a special episode of C&R where Othias just has to pronounce foreign manufacturer, people, and firearm names haha
Perhaps with Ian doing a running score card for accuracy?
Ha-ha, yes, now I want such episode too.
Absolutely! Make it so, Meg.

stories about Spanish gun makers have more surprise, nonsensical twists than a bad spy novel
Intrigue? Double-crossing? Double agents? Yup, sounds Spanish enough. Primer could do stories country-by-country after these. I nominate Spain first.
As opposed to stories about Austro-Hungarian gun makers, which are like _Alice's Adventures in Gunderland._
