Rest in peace Mr Joe Cocker. The world has lost an incredible singer and performer, there will never be another entertainer like him, he truly was one of a kind.He was one of my all time favorite singers in my younger days and today.HE will be missed thru out the world. God bless him and his family.
I saw Joe perform at the Horden Pavillion in Sydney around 1971, and he was just great. He's always great, he sings his heart out and doesn't give a shit about how he looks or about his body movements, he's a legend. Actually if I remember right, I think he got chucked out of Australia around then too. If he came back now I'd go and see him again,
Wowzaaaa! Joe Cocker rocked the world with his raw vocals, and expert team of back-up singers and musicians! There's special place in heaven for the blessed souls who shared their talent and love wth the world❣Rock on, Joe Cocker❣
Mad Dogs and Englishmen in my opinion still remains one of the best live videos of a concert, even to this day with all the tchnological advancements. No one veats the raw power that Joe put in his songs.
I was in west Berlin at one of his bigband concerts, it raining steady in the out door theater, every one but about 80 of us stayed and wated. finally the rain let up, he came out holding a gollon jug of Jim beam. he thanked every one for hagging it out and put on the best concert I have ever been to, he was drunk and 5 feet away from me. What a band and all the big hits. I was 19 in 1972 in Berlin. I will never forget that show.
Joe Cocker , I was a teenager in the 1960's , and I enjoyed listening to " Delta Lady " before I went to the Vietnam War in 1969 and enjoyed listening to it after I came back and to this day !
Freaking awesome! Thank God this was filmed. Just sends chills down your spine it's so great! Cocker still sounds great today. Saw him when he went through town with Tom Petty. But in his prime Cocker was king. I remember this period in his career and the hype surrounding his concerts and recordings. Wish I could have seen him live during this period. Bobby Keys wailing on the sax, just icing on the cake. Beautiful!
I remember I went to go see the movie, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, I was 12. I thought it was a cowboy and indians movie. Boy was I ever surprised! Became a fan for life on that day.
I love Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishmen!!! We used to go see the film at the late night movie every time it can in the 70's.Great movie and great muscians!!!
Mark of good music is when you can listen to it almost 40 years later and it still moves you the way it did then - maybe more! Strong performances in every way. Many of the best musicians of the era.
I live in Oklahoma, I'm a 38 year old professional, great family, great life. I just wanted to say I don't even know who you are, but you must be one awesome, soulful, caring wonderful person if this has been your soundtrack. There isn't a human on Earth that expressed himself like Cocker. My Dad raised me on this, he past away in 03'. I can finally listen to Mad Dogs without crying. You rock Pink!
I saw this concert in San Antonio about 1970-71. Whew. Seeing this is like being there again. As I remember, Delaney and Bonnie opened up with Eric Clapton playing guitar with them.
Saw him once in Vancouver with Stevie Ray Vaughan . Stevie died about two weeks later I still have two t-shirt from Stevie that I only wore a few times . Great concert to bad we all have to die one day . Well rock while you can.
a british blues singer, southern rock musicians and singers,a hell of a combo, joe said recently that at times during the tour, he was overwhelmed by rock stardom, and couldnt handle it, leon tried to teach him how but it took him years to adjust, just saw leon on the 22 w/ elton john great show,a mad dog reunion would be the highlight of my life though
Wow, a flashback to black mollies, acapulco gold, and california turn-arounds and my bonniville 427 factory stock with 3-duces. I had just returned from a trip to Mexico up to California, San Francisco and back home to San Antonio when I get to the crash pad everyone was getting ready for this concert. Between all of above and Pinch, I don't remember much but I still feel the music in my chest. Wow.
the honesty in the playing, and singing. For all the legendary drinking and drug excesses that surrounded this tour before it collapsed, this was a kickass stage band led by Leon Russell, who knew how to arrange the material to best showcase Joe...as for him, He gave everything on stage, for 56 shows , and I don't think he was the same after. Brilliant. I love the ' WHAT THE ((**&^&^*' look he gives Leon Russell when Russell comps the ending.
@SoberGeorge Mad Dogs was the first concert I ever saw, which is probably why it holds a special place in my heart. It shaped the way I "rated" concerts, and few have held up to their standard. I've seen Joe Cocker and Leon Russell seperately over the years, and Leon wins hands down. As he's aged, his habit of telling stories of the old days between songs has increased, which is where I get my information-straight from the horse's mouth.
Delta Lady (Live) - Joe Cocker [Sheffield, Yorkshire, England] - 1970 - "AMG Pick. One of Leon Russell's greatest songwriting creations, "Delta Lady" is also one of Joe Cocker's defining moments. The verses are a full-blown three-chord rock blowout, featuring a fabulous performance from both Cocker and the background vocalists." - Mad Dogs & Englishmen [Original Recording Reissued, Original Recording Remastered, Live] (A&M Records)-1999.
saw mad dogs at the avalon in san francisco what an incredible and crazy show. never saw so many rockers on one stage, chris stainton, leon russel, joe, rita cooledge(spelling?) 25 years later after playing a gig on san marcos pass above santa barbara with my friend sheri geiger she introduced me to Joe Cocker who she had become friends with in santa barbara, we ended up spending the night at joes rented ranch house on Jane fondas property up on the pass. what a great night, friendly and openguy
RIP. This is music that is rough edged, messy, heart felt, unafraid, propulsive, not like the current dreck which is all prop and polish and poses, where even authenticity is a studied calculation and it is all about building a brand. Exuberance and enthrallment.
You nailed this, capitalism has insidiously choked the life out of rock and roll. It used to be the anarchistic heartbeat of humanity, now it has been commodified like every other fucking original beautiful thing in the world...
@SoberGeorge --Indeed. Denny Cordell and Joe Cocker showed up at Leon's house and asked for his help. (Cordell was Leon's manager). Leon held auditions and tons of singers showed up. The first show was in Detroit where my 14 year old self was mesmerized.
Voz! linda e muito talento!Joe Cocker foi genial, espetacular!Dedicou sua vida á arte musical , entrega total! Joe Cocker nasceu pra cantar ! Fez uma longa carreira de sucesso! Foi muito abençoado por Jeová Deus!
@Msdistarr Thank you so much!!! I forgot that song decades ago, it was an album someone "borrowed" along w/ my "Exile on Main street" and David Bowies' Knock on Wood"Hey, Roseland:" and of course my Joe Cocker. It was sexy! At the time, I didn't know what that meant!x0 thank you
In 1969-70, Joe Cocker released his first two albums. I was in college and that's all we listened to for about a week. Then, Playboy conducted a highly respected survey of critics and Cocker beat Frank Sinatra year after year as Best Male Singer. The tour and the film were huge cultural events. There is nothing today to compare. MD&E is one of the top rock albums of all time. If this guy is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, then there is no Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Loved it to death! Please post a couple with LEON RUSSELL from MD&E. Good God I sure do wish those two could be on good terms again. Nothing better than a Joe Cocker concert with Leon backing him up!
What a closer this was for a great tour. Well, great music. The tour ended badly in many respects. Cocker made no money on it, he and Leon hated each other... But it is wonderful music that holds up well almost 40 years later!
The closest I came was to see Leon and Shelter People at the Fillmore. I'm still shaking! Openers was Taj Mahal w/H.Johnson big band and Donny Hathaway with Dupree,Weeks, etc. Yes I'm bragging and jealous of myself!! Wish I could go back tonite!!!
This segment of the film appears to have been filmed at Fillmore East: that's their long drum and amp riser; the unique technique of the Joshua Light Show/Joe's Lights can be seen behind the band; first row comes right up to the stage; some footage was shot from the theater-right balcony that was used for the sound board; some glimpses of the orchestra section--yup, sure looks like the old FE.
I saw Joe in 1975 at at a small venue in SLC Utah, he had quite a drinking problem at that time. No he couldn't afford Elvis sized shows. But still put on helluva good show. He made a comeback with " You are so Beautiful" I think 1976
Ya Cocoker was so much tougher and rawer than he turned into later in life I guess no one can sustain that level of intensity forever... these guys -Mad Dogs and Englishmen where what everyone feel in lov with.. along with Joe
He's as hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh as you can get! I love Joe Cocker so much. We need more musicians like him today.
Rest in peace Mr Joe Cocker. The world has lost an incredible singer and performer, there will never be another entertainer like him, he truly was one of a kind.He was one of my all time favorite singers in my younger days and today.HE will be missed thru out the world. God bless him and his family.
I was fourteen years old when this came out and it still amazes me to this day!
I was five lol....
You were unique! You were a big part of the soundtrack of my 64 years. Thank you for the music, RIP and God Speed!
Congrats to Leon Russell, whose band and arrangements and song you are hearing, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! About time!
I saw Joe perform at the Horden Pavillion in Sydney around 1971, and he was just great. He's always great, he sings his heart out and doesn't give a shit about how he looks or about his body movements, he's a legend.

I know Leon was so happy you sang this song. So many love you, but you will be forever immortal in my heart. Thanks for the music!
This man has always had it, one of the best voices in music, gritty and hard as the steel city of Sheffield where he is from. Fantastic!
Joe Cocker at his best!! Thanks for the music Joe!
RIP, Joe. You were one of the great ones!
RIP Joe and Bobby Keys. Thanks for the music.
RIP Joe.....You were one of best ever. There will never be another quite like again.

Rest in Peace Mr. Cocker, and THANK YOU.
Listening to Leon for the past 30 years...saw him last week...almost forgot about Joe doing this song. Wondeful and brings back some great memories.
After so many years it's so easy to forget their greatness...thanks for reminding me!
I saw the Mad Dogs & Englishmen concert at the Filmore east. My first of many concerts.
1970 - Good times, bad times...mostly good times!!!! Thanks Joe.
Mr. Joe Cocker, the voice of rock and roll...I'd always love him...Nice video
One of the best! Great music, great memories
What great memories happen, while listening to Joe Cocker. Especially Delta Lady.
I remember I went to go see the movie, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, I was 12. I thought it was a cowboy and indians movie. Boy was I ever surprised! Became a fan for life on that day.
The best rock movie up to that time (1971) I've seen it many times and still get the video out of the cupboard and play it LOUD!!!!!!
I love Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishmen!!! We used to go see the film at the late night movie every time it can in the 70's.Great movie and great muscians!!!
After a long life I have yet to see a live performance that can top this. Magnificent!
Mark of good music is when you can listen to it almost 40 years later and it still moves you the way it did then - maybe more! Strong performances in every way. Many of the best musicians of the era.

coinvolgente, trascinante, da rimanere in carica per un anno!!!!
Saw him once in Vancouver with Stevie Ray Vaughan . Stevie died about two weeks later I still have two t-shirt from Stevie that I only wore a few times . Great concert to bad we all have to die one day . Well rock while you can.
Stupendo pezzo, magnifica performance, un finale emozionante..
Wore the grooves right out of this album. FANTASTIC!
Cocker was great in the late 60's/first 70's!Love that stuff!

Damn I wish I could've gone to concerts in those days!!! They blow doors on anything today.
RIP LEGEND, LOVE YOUR MUSIC!!!

Like Ten Years After, now there was a bass player that really rocked down the house!
See the way Joe looks at Leon when leon starts up the piano again ? Joe was not happy .....this was one of the best concerts I ever saw !
So good. Gotta see what you got on the other cheek :) Thanks.
Just got energized ...... thanks for posting.... aaaaawsome

+Robert Paul Exactly. Most (not all) of today's stuff just seems like histrionics being used to mask tame, bland, third rate material.
A voz mais linda que já ouvi! JOE COCKER ê único ! Excepcional! Amo Joe Cocker!

Rock and Roll indeed Mr. Cocker. Rest In Peace.
One of the greatest. RIP

Beautiful Bobby Keys - RIP
Went to see Hendrix at Devonshire Downs in '69. Hendrix was disappointing, but Joe saved the night and was fantastic! R.I.P. Mr. Cocker
Amazing song, what energy!!!!
Absolutely the best white rythm & blues singer ever! This man gives all he's got in a song!

One of the greatest soul singers period.

Is there or has there ever been a performer, who gives as much Joe Cocker ? I think, NOT.
Sure, believe what you want, I was backstage at the Fillmore East when it was recorded.
Are there any "new" singers like this old beast? I don't think so... Incredible singer and still going strong...
I got to go to all these shows!!!! P.S judecreek is totally, absolutely correct! I idolized
Leon Russell when I was a teen!
joe cocker and leon at cain's ballroom was the greatest show ever, such a trip
The closest I came was to see Leon and Shelter People at the Fillmore. I'm still shaking!
Openers was Taj Mahal w/H.Johnson big band and Donny Hathaway with Dupree,Weeks, etc.

This song was written by Leon Russell (on piano) about Rita Coolidge, who's one of the backup singers behind Cocker.
