He couldn't even bother to get Jimmy Page, who plays guitar on the record. If he wanted to make a true impact, he would have persuaded Page to pause Led Zeppelin's tour schedule and play with him here. Instead, he cut corners and this is the result.

I envy this generation. I was born in the late 80s and now raise kids In this woke-broken and lost world. I would give anything to have been able to experience life in the 60s and 70s. That was living!! The best time for music, cars and technology..then it got out of control and everyone now is all about a fake internet life that doesn't even exist and man is now woman and woman is man and they,he,she.. Fucking scary and yet somehow gets respect. Pray hard end times are near.

As a black guy who grew up with Motown and 1970’s reggae... this was the song that had me fall in love with white Blues Rock music. The intro is a creation of genius!! And Joe Cocker’s talented voice, passion and performance is magical. Music is the gift that unites the world more than anything else. I love it. 💖🎼🎸🥁🎼 RIP Joe. 😢🙏🏾

Joe entered a different world that day. He was connected to earth physically, but spiritually he was elsewhere. The music completely overtook him and he could barely control himself. You don’t see this raw passion and love for music, where the performance becomes spiritual, from todays cookie cut artists by big corporations whose only goals are to get played on the radio and make money.
Music today, for the most part, seriously lacks soul, love and care. Three things Joe ensured his music had. We miss you, brother, hope the next life is treating you well. Forever missed in your previous one.

The last air guitar part after he's done singing is just out of this world. He's giving his all, putting every last drop into it, just like the fans want performers to do. I've been watching this video for probably 10 years. I'll go away from it for a year sometimes, but when I come back, I just appreciate it more. This is rock n' roll. It's the black and white, teen angst, message, love, etc . . .all rolled into one.

Hendrix was playing Sunday morning as the sun came up, Star Spangled Banner. Funny, outside of aches and pains, feel young. Saw Joe play in Boston. and Bonnie Raitt with Albert King. Jack's on Mass ave. J Giles was the bar band. Hendrix at the spectrum(revolving stage) in Phillie and Cream there in 69 (Clapton was incredible.Ginger baker played two sets of drums. I am still amazed by him. Played something different with each hand, each foot.) Listen to "Politician" on Wheels of Fire album.

I think the number of thumbs down can easily be explained. They're mainly today's disgruntled music fans...if you can call it music, who missed out on that golden period of Rock from the 60's and 70's.
It's their way of trying to belittle what was the greatest and most popular musical genre of the 20th century.
Maybe every genre has it's time..after all, when was the last great Opera written? Perhaps 100 yrs ago.
    Today's music fans celebrate mediocrity.
I will admit that 90% of my music collection is retro 60's and 70's. And it makes me feel so alive when I listen to it.
Watching Joe Cocker here was a defining moment. He gave it his all, and the very next day the world knew who Joe Cocker was.
And who should close out Woodstock on that final day? None other than the great Jimi Hendrix.
Will we ever see such extraordinary times like this again? I doubt it.

    • @deejohn1659
      @deejohn1659 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@edmundmcquincy5464 ...That's not totally true because when the music died I went off and discovered Jazz, Blues, Opera and Classical music. In fact I went on to enjoy Heavy Metal (not that U.S Soft Rock), then Glam Rock, Punk and then Disco.
And you certainly don't need any chemical stimulation to enhance your listening to Hendrix, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Floyd, Zeppelin, Hawkwind, Brian Wilson etc, but it probably helped a little back then when I first heard them. Mind you, today's so called music fans who definitely celebrate mediocrity, have every right to be bitter while they fail miserably in their attempts to copy those true pioneers of Rock Music, who's legacies will live on, unlike today's artists. Would today's listeners even begin to understand lyrics written by the great Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, back in the prime of his musical career?
The only artist in the last ten years that knocked me for six was Jarrod Lawson from Portland, Oregon. What sheer talent he has.
Sadly young music listeners today will barely venture and explore other musical genres outside of Pop and Rock.

Thank God I lived through the 60's and on and played bass to all this music. Lovely simple melodic bass on this song. Great crescendos as the bass slides down the neck. Best cover of a Beatles song I can think of. Thanks Joe RIP

Funny you should mention that. I rarely pick up on the bass line. But I really noticed the bass player in this song. I agree. Amazing bass notes. So perfect.

Bass now means loud notes .but to me bass is the fundamental part of the music in so many songs .and it provides great melody .but now it's whoop every few seconds and boom noises . but their are a lot of great bands out at the moment with frat drums and bass rhythm and lead guitar .but their is brainwashing in music so it's easy to sell rubbish
Rock .folk and classic will never die tho .it's to good to just a lot less choice out there.
