    What's up everyone?! I hope these solutions to the short M50 battery life are helpful. Did you like them? Will these work for you? Let me know what you think!!
    Was there too much detail? Not enough? What did you like, and also, what did you not like? What would you like to see more of? Would love to know what you think, good or bad. I am grateful in advance 🙏

      The video is precise, straight to the point, no filler or unnecessary fluff. Much appreciated!
      It's interesting, that the battery compartment door is designed to work with a that kind of "battery".
      I've just ordered three 3rd party batteries, so I'm not personally in a hurry to get that converter, but it's good to know about!

      Is it even worth it to upgrade to the m50 from the m100? I mainly just shoot photos. Aside from the EVF, is there any noticable difference between the 2? Great video by the way. 👌

    I’m always skeptical to 3rd party power solutions risking swollen battery or dangerous adaptor. I’m using the USB solution now and it’s safest due to its low power throughput and very flexible. I have Omnicharge so I can use the original Canon AC adaptor outdoor too, but the USB solution is a lot lighter. Maybe due to this, Canon staff told me they’ve stopped manufacturing the coupler.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good perspective. Are you saying that Canon stopped manufacturing the coupler because it was causing a problem?
      Is this true with the AC and USB? or just AC? Curious. Thank you for all the insight.

    • @SpringloftStudio
      @SpringloftStudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tech Gear Talk not problems with the Canon parts. I mean before I use the USB solution same as yours, I’ve bought 2 sets of Canon AC adaptors and the couplers, separately as they’re no longer offered as sets. When I was talking to the Canon staff at their CS center picking up the coupler, I saw the coupler packing were quite worn out and they’re clearing stock. So one staff told me once these are cleared there’d be no more as they’ve stopped making it. It makes total sense as no one buying these Canon parts anymore if the 3rd party solutions are well performing and cheap, not to mention that most M users are opting for convenience but not pro like us needing lots of power. There’s no profit producing the coupler, especially made in Japan, anymore.
      I just won’t feel safe using a 3rd party AC adaptor due to hissing or fried camera reported on Amazon.
      But the USB cable is only stepped up to 8.something V and I can choose which power pack to supply like 5V 2.4A Max or even QC3 batteries supply about 15W only, so there’s little chance damaging the camera and not even need to worry catching fire.
      If anyone own the AC adaptor already, yes the Omnicharge battery is powerful enough to drive it and that’s meaning 70 WH vs the original Canon LP-E12 6.3WH... but I’ll plug it in like your case by the USB cable.

    • @SpringloftStudio
      @SpringloftStudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the very last thing I hope failing is when I need a shot, the power fail out. I also read from Amazon like Wasabi battery swollen after 1-2 years. If you’re in Asia you’d have heard lots of reporting of poor AC adaptors causing fire or people shocked to death by phone chargers. Though not as many reports recently, I’d still stay away from them. There reasons original or branded adaptors being heavy and expensive.
      For the USB step up cable, I got them from AliExpress. That’s the level of power I’d dare to use cheap 3rd party solutions.

      VeXx KL I’m not the expert here. But I love my SL2. $50 more for the M50 plus the $188 lens adapter for Ef-s Lens (If you want more lens options)..... plus inferior battery life. I don’t know. The choice for me was pretty simple as a “first timer” camera. Good luck.

    Yes yes yes yes yes!!! Thank you Tech Gear Talk guy. I have the Ronin S and I’m using it with a Canon M50. While third party guys make dummy batteries with cables that plug directly from the Ronin S aux power into dummy battery, no one seems to make it for the Canon M50. They only make them for the Sony cameras compatible with the Ronin S. This is an AMAZING alternative. I’m using the small portable USB charger and connect my dummy battery from from the USB charger into my dummy battery. You are the best man. Loved your two part series on setting up the M50 for video and cinema shooting. Thanks so much.

    My extra batteries came with a very small twin USB charger, which I plug into a powerbank - I can now charge the batteries in my camera bag while I'm on the move. I just made a small compartment so it doesn't fall over while I'm walking. I do like the idea of camera-to-powerbank via cable for video, but for still photography I suspect it might get in the way as you move around a lot more. Great video, and like many people I didn't know that the rubber tab had a hole beneath it!

    Sweet. Those are some very interesting options to overcome a pretty glaring weakness in the usability of the M50. I am looking for a relatively cost-effective camera, and I have been considering the G7. But it's auto focus weaknesses are pretty well chronicled. So, I keep hearing your 'buy it twice' rationale in my head, and I keep coming back to the M50. I anticipate using it out doors a lot, so the battery life of the M50 has given me pause, especially since I plan to use it quite a bit in the winter snowmobiling. The external mobile power option is a great fix.

    Hi! I watch your vids all the time. I am a self taught photographer and I have been at it for about 6 years . I started with a Canon T3I . I loved it. My main lens was the 24mm pancake. It gave me crispy beautiful bokehlicious images that a lot of people thought were macro if I did a close up shot. I have used it to death! I have tried the Fuji xt10 but sold it because the focusing was off and I just didn’t care for it. I bought a cheap Nikon to use until I can make a choice. I also tried the Sony a6000 but I love a fully articulating touch screen. I have used the M50 and the images are beautiful. I don’t shoot video at all , just occasionally time lapses but I use my phone for that. I mainly shoot flowers, wildflowers, abstract, fine art and sometimes birds. I know with 9 focus points, it might seem almost impossible to shoot a bird in flight but once you practice enough, you can almost anticipate the birds movement and make it work. I have also captured lightning on several occasions. I like the M50 but I am torn between the 77D , SL2 or the M50. I am on a very strict budget. I want to focus more on the lenses , money wise since we know good glass is the most important technical aspect. My question to you is, do you think mirrorless images are in general, sharper and “ cleaner”? Or do you think , with the right glass, it shouldn’t matter? I’m really having a tough time making a choice.
    I also wonder about the future of the M series. Is Canon gong to continue with the M camera lineup or focus on the full frame camera’s? That worries me because I cannot afford to keep buying camera’s. I need something sturdy and reliable. Sorry for this long comment. Thanks for your time.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Millie, thanks for watching. Here is an image quality comparison, might surprise you. th-cam.com/video/XEhsU-aEX04/w-d-xo.html
      Like you, I believe in investing in glass.
      If the extra size and weight of the 77d don’t bother you, might as well have extra focus points.
      Not sure what canon is doing with the M line. They need more lenses ASAP.
      The EOS R is very nice, but is out of budget for most people.
      Right now, with the limited efm lenses, a dslr might be the best choice. Or you can do m50 with an adapter, but that may defeat the purpose since you’re getting larger lenses.
      What do you think?

    • @buddah610

      Tech Gear Talk Thanks for your quick response! I watched that video when it first came out! Lol! I actually thought the SL2 had better IQ than the M50 or the same. The dynamic range seemed slightly better to me. For the price, I might go with the SL2. I know it’s considered a beginner camera but with the right glass, I think I can make it work. The 77D was going to be the one but I have been looking at a lot of pics on Flickr, IG and other sites. Something seems odd about the quality. I know about the way IG compresses your photos so that’s why I looked in other places. DP review said the viewfinder was unusually small and I think you only got something like 85% coverage. They recommend using live view to get the most out of the duel pixel af. I don’t need 45 focus points to shoot a flower. If I realize I made a mistake, I can return the SL2 for the 77D. You have been a great help!! Thanks so very much! Have a great day!!

      I really don't think you're going to be disappointed with the SL2. Agree that you don't need the extra AF points for the way you shoot.
      Again, I think the fact that you're approaching this whole process with a glass-first approach means you've already won.
      I'm glad I could be useful as a sounding board here. Thank you so much for being a part of this community.

      Thank for your reply.
      I am from Nigeria and I am using the Canon M50 for professional photography.
      How do I get the DC coupler ? Amazon doesn't ship to my country.

    Brilliant Solutions!!! I will be purchasing the adapter that I can plug into a portable charger. I typically carry an extra battery, but you never know.I always have a portable on me anyway, so why not have a tertiary backup solution? I will use your link. Thank you so much, I was about to purchase a 3rd battery!

      I completely agree with your philosophy. No one needs backup until they need it - right?

    Ahh I wish I had seen this video earlier.
    I purchased 2 extra batteries that included a charger via USB.
    I think for now I'll turn on Eco Mode and switch batteries if need to be. If this doesn't work out, I'll buy the cable that charges the battery while using the camera.
    Thanks for the video

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh bummer!
      Eco mode really helps. Also, just to be clear, that cable does not charge the battery, but it does allow you to use an external power source instead of a battery.

      @@TechGearTalk ahh that's for clarifying. If that's the case, 3 batteries are good enough for me :)
