I use the M50 for all my TH-cam videos. But since my videos are not artistic stories, I’m pretty happy with the standard profile with some minor color grading. I do try to stick to the wide open aperture and 180° shutter speed, so I have a variable ND filter that I use A LOT!

not all films have shallow depth of field, you should only use it when it's relevant to the story. shooting like this can make the image softer and make it harder to focus.

@@tesha199 Right, but with the larger sensor it still gets better performance. I hate when people act like shooting with smaller sensors is an advantage. Like when you factor in a tighter focal range on the same actual lenses (all the best consumer glass is for full frame) it just isn't worth it. Not when Canon and Sony both have affordable full frame now for not much more. And if you are buying the better full frame lenses and adapting, you might as well spend a bit more and get an RP/R or a used sony A7III or A7sII

I really hate bokeh in TH-cam videos....when it’s subtle, it looks great...but a lot of TH-camrs overdo it 🤢 they should put more effort in making a nice looking set instead of blurring it out.

I've used cinestyle. Basically, you gain dynamic range in the highlights and shadows, but you lose midtone detail. Also, it can be a pain to expose correctly and even more of a nightmare to color grade. I'd save my time and just shoot with the natural picture profile.

I love my M50, I shot all the videos on my channel with it but I recently added the EOS R to my arsenal as well. I may end up using the natural profile again because it is hard to match c-log footage to cinestyle. If they add c-log to the m50 that would be awesome.

    • @thisisfela
      @thisisfela 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      well I wouldnt say a beast.. the Fuji x-t3 is a beast (4k 60fps, 10bit)
the Sony a6300 is a beast (full sensor readout 4k, epic lowlight performance for apsc, LOG).
the m50 is more like the full canon experience in a small body, wich is cool. But its really far from a "beast" I would say.

Hi Joris. I installed the cine profile. Taking a closer look at it: sharpness and contrast are set to zero, other settings are the same as for the neutral profile. My question : wouldnt it just be easier to take a user defined profile and make the necessary settings? Why the need to install? Or am I missing something?

Hello, thank you very much for the video, I loved it!
I'm going to buy my first camera, which one should I buy? Canon M50 or Canon T7i ??
I would appreciate your advice on this decision.
    Excuse my English.

Hey, Alan! Do you need it urgently? I've heard rumors that the M50 Mark II will be announced. Might be worth waiting for that one... or at least until they reveal the specs.

Haha, even I use Gobe ones. It’s a good cam. I use Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens and with dji ronin SC it’s a beast.

that excaple with the "take you're videos from this (raw M50) to this (very unexposed edited clip by m50) :) just tough that was a little flaws

You're right, I went over the editing too fast just to get it done that day... 😔

Hollywood uses shallow dof very sparingly. Idk where you got the idea that its always shallow. The 85 or 135mm 1.2, 1.4 at biggest aperture thing, i associate that more with fashion or portrait stills (and that's arguably a dated look that's more associated with beginners these days). But a controlled slight selective focus at typically 2.8-5.6, sure.
