I was looking at this kit because it has a few low light options: 1. 11-22mm 2. 22mm f2 3. 32mm f1.4 4. 100mm f2.8 5. 50mm f1.8 Coming from Fuji every camera outside of the a7SII seems to struggle in comparison. It’s one reason I use Fuji for photography. But Canon has it locked down for video.
That 32mm f1.4 is under rated. No one ever mentions it. It's the true nifty fifty when using an aps-c crop sensor camera. It gives the 50mm focal length equivalent everyone recommends.
Hi Metin. Thanks very much for this. I think that this would be really useful for a lot of people. I just wanted to note (for people who may not know) that the focal length of the lenses is given relative to full frame cameras, but - for the Canon M50, with a crop-factor of 1.6 - the effective focal length of each lens is almost doubled - e.g., the 'Nifty Fifty' 50mm f 1.8 in your review is actually giving more of a 'look' closer to the kind of angle and compression that a 100mm lens would give on a full-frame camera. I really like the M50's kit lens (even though it could be sharper), and when I used to shoot 35mm in the old, pre-digital days, I always used a 28mm (not a 50mm) as my standard lens. So the 15-45mm kit lens approximates a 28mm at its widest angle of view. I just wish that it could open wider than f 3.5.
the samyang 8mm justifies this professionally as a second camera always ready, the 11 to 22 for travel stills and an adapted 135 f2 for long lens stuff

This was an amazing video! I used to love doing landscape photography when I was in my early 20s. Now with a wife and 2 kids, I stumbled onto a video of my 6 year old doing a youtube style review of his favorite video games while his 4 year old brother did a decent job holding the ipad steady. His eyes lit up when I broke out my old Canon XTI. With the nifty 50 and my beloved 17-55 2.8f. I'm thinking the m50 might be small enough I actually take on vacations and I can over see my son getting an early start on vlog or photography. Hows the autofocus with fast moving sports?
Such a lovely story! Hope you and your kids will discover together the magic of video and photography. Well the M50 has the famous Canon Dual Auto Focus which is amazing. Still depends also on the lens you‘re using.

Very Cool Stuff. I just started with video this year and also decided to go with the M50. I love this little camera! I know it has it's drawbacks but I don't care, I'm learning to use what I got and this thing has a lot for it's price point. Great Video i am so glad that you have made this video i did have the 77d which i did like very much but i took on holiday with me to Thailand and i found it very heavy to carry round so i sold it , i did have interest the canon M50 but the only thing what put me of was having to buy the adapter now i have seen this video it has given me a good idea thanks again for a great video full marks.
So far my favorite has been the 22mm f2 efm prime lens. Very portable and versatile. Also like the 50mm 1.8 ef stg with speed booster, great combination.
Great review! That's the information and confirmation I needed! Can't do much with that camera if your going to use it for filming . It makes the 10mm look like an 18mm on a crop sensor. A can know call the Canon M50 a double crap camera . Sorry its "Double Crop"...

Fantastic video. I just bought my m50 and have already got to the point that I've been looking for my next lens. This broke down alot of the confusion. Thanks for the advice.
The Sigma contemporary lenses are excellent. The EF lenses with a focal reducer are also nice. I see f1.0 with my 85mm Canon lens. I don't like any kit lenses for the M series. The 22mm ef-m lens is good, but none of the other ef-m lenses that I tried produced pleasing results.
Found your page just now!!! And you rock my photography world 😎. Learned so much from you, and the way you present your video is soo creative, easy to understand the complicated stuff with the lenses. Thank you! And keep making cool videos! ❤❤❤
Great video, thanks for making it. My particular slant on video making is largely live music with musicians on a dark stage in a dark club, making f stops paramount in importance. I solved it through bringing in 2 of my own lights (1x Yongnuo LED barn-door affair on a tiny tripod and 1x INSSTRO RGB light strapped to the hi-hat stand) and with lens purchases. Had I seen your video earlier I think I still would have made roughly the same buys. In the bag are ... hacked EF-S 18-55mm, hacked EF-S 24mm, EF 50mm f1.8, EF mount Sigma 28mm f1.8, Kamlan EF-M mount 28mm f1.4 ... and the 15-45mm kit lens. Let's get the kit lens out of the way first. I didn't think it worth bothering with when I bought the M50 but I read the reviews and thought it looked handy and the price! - £42. And if I ever only have room for 1 camera and 1 lens now (like when I'm out on the scooter), it's the M50 with the 15-45. The reason for the hacked EF-S lenses? A Viltrox speedbooster. Together with a Commlite straight adapter, all the auto-focus prime lenses now have 2 focal distances. For example, taking the APSC sensor into account, a nifty 50 will have 80mm (Commlite) and now 57mm(ish) (Viltrox). And it gives you a whole f stop more of light, [he says pointing back up to the top with the dark gigs] - so now my main issue is sound quality. Nearly there. Cheers
So much weight and cumbersome adapters -- remember, you have to remove the speed booster each time you switch lenses or the camera will give you an error msg. The point of the m50 is its compact size, it defeats the purpose having all these heavy lenses & extra parts on a tiny camera body. The only lenses I need are the 11-22 mm for wide angle, 32 mm for a nifty fifty (51 mm equivalent on a full frame), and a 55-200 mm telephoto lens. Hook them on a Fii Trilens Holder at the waist and you can swap lenses out easily without having to worry about removing various parts. Plus, native lenses are always going to communicate, with the camera that they were designed for, much better.
@@YourMajesty143 It's my budget that has dictated my choices. I bought the EF lens for my T3i (since sold) and T4i. Then I bought an EOS M (also since sold) and the adapters before adding to the list with the Sigma 28mm. It's f1.8 which means that with the speedbooster, I can get that down to f1.2. I'm not going to get close to that with anything from the native line up. If I went for the brightest on offer (the 32mm f1.4), I'd have the equivalent of 51.2mm. That focal length is kiboshed by the EF 50mm f1.8, possibly the most popular and excellent value lens on the planet. With the speedbooster, that's f1.2 (I like this number) and 57mm. The Sigma 28mm becomes 32mm equivalent, which is right where I want it. I have a camera and lens kit bag of a limited size, and that kit bag is geared towards the gig work. I mentioned the Kamlan manual EF-M lens and the ubercheap 15-45 that I've bought since getting the M50. Well, they'll be more for outdoor daylight stuff (hiking, for example) where the light is bright enough not to give the 15-45 any trouble and I'd just add the Weebill S, a mike with deadcat and perhaps a monopod (and a Fii Trilens now I've looked it up). I have a different rucksack for that - but sadly am not able to do much hiking at the moment. I did look at the 11-22 when I was looking at the 15-45 and the price difference was just a no-brainer. For around the house, which right now is pretty much all of the time, I have the EF-S 24mm f2.8 on the M50 with the straight Commlite adapter, which gives me 38.4mm equiv. So ... if I had more native EF-M lenses I would definitely use them if they were superior to my motley EF line up. But I certainly cannot jusitfy buying pricey kit that frankly does a poorer job than my existing stuff just because it's more compact. I've never had any error messages relating the speedbooster being on the camera. And for convenience I frequently leave an adapter on the camera. I don't remember having any issues ... and the EF's communicate brilliantly with the M50 - much better than the EOS M (let's not go there) and the autofocus is faster with the adapted M50 than the T4i. Vive la Dual Pixel! One thing you did mention is the 55-200mm. That's got my attention as I sold my EF telephoto zoom with the T3i and haven't had anything decent since. I was going to buy the EF 70-200 f2.8 when I could afford it and other things weren't such a priority. I've just had a look at the 55-200 and it's f4.5-6.3. It would be great for wildlife but useless in low light. I think I'll keep saving. So you're right about using mirrorless to bring your volume and weight down. It's perfect for that and if you're starting off with just the M50, then you're not going to be looking at spending money on adapters, etc.
Yu Guan It‘s also my favorite lens but I think it‘s a good thing to have a zoom lens as a starter lens. So people who are just starting out can try different focal lenghts.
Great lens setup, i debating between Canon 200D & M50 but in the end I choose 200D cause I don’t want to use adapter. i only have 4 lens while i travel kit lens STM 18-55mm ( use most time) YN nifty fifty 1.8 Canon 10-18mm STM (used it often) Tamron 70-300mm Di Marco (landscape) If i got the budget i really wish to swap the kit lens to 18-135mm to give me more distance.

I saw your video 5 years ago! I have my first lens because of your recommendation 😊. I want to do wildlife photos (when I go hiking 😬 and I see a bird o any animal around) with this camera . What lends do you recommend? 🙂
Hi Metin. I have a question. Why'd you choose to use the 10-18mm over the native ef-m 11-22mm? What are it's advantages over the smaller ef-m lens? Thanks!
Good question! Well I already had the EF to EF-M lens adapter. So the 10-18mm is cheaper and starts at 10mm and is also very light (240g vs 220g with the 11-22mm). But that’s actually it. The biggest plus to the 11-22 is that the lowest is at f4.0 compared to the 10-18mm which start at f4.5. So if price doesn’t matter: go with the 11-22mm 😊
@@MetinSenler thanks for the reply and your input, appreciate it so much. I'm planning to buy a Canon M50 and do not own a 10-18mm yet. So I will probably go with the 11-22mm lens. Thanks!
Great video. My question is, why don't anyone recommend the Canon 32mm prime lens? That's the one you'd need to capture the 50mm focal length. The crop factor of 1.6mm has to be taken into consideration. The 32mm is the true nifty fifty when using an aps-c camera.
Thanks! So, the 32mm wasn’t out yet when I recorded this video. I know what you mean, but the Nifty Fifty will always be the 50mm I showed in the video. It’s true, the 1.6 crop is essential, but that doesn’t change the fact that the nifty fifty is officially a 50mm (built for full-frame).

@@MetinSenler me too.
Brian Minh Triet Nguyen Maybe the 22mm or even the 32mm can be a nice alternative.
@@baowzer6430 - The 32 mm on a crop sensor is a 51 mm equivalent (on a full frame), and is the best for portrait shots or any imagery requiring natural eye perspectives.
I just got the M50 for my birthday with the kit lense, so i'm basically just starting over since not done any photography for years & want so much to get back into it, love your video & info on lenses, particularly want a recommendation for good zoom lens, i like to photograph wildlife. So glad I found your channel Metin Senler !
Still depends also on the lens you‘re using.
wait your getting a 6 year old child a $500 mirrorless camera to START with?
or am I misreading that cause I really hope that isn't the case.
@@ickypowwow6635 no, I'm getting myself a camera for my family and he can start learning with it. Went a different route and grabbed a gopro hero 7 at Costco when the 8 came out at 197.99. He's gotten really good doing stop motion movies with his legos
i love these kinda videos because they are raw and i can relate. i can see the physical changes as you change elements. i will take this any day over studio based or others
Prince Banini thanks a lot! Really appreciate it 🙌
@@MetinSenler you're most welcome buddy
Thanks Mate, helpful vid. I'm assuming that your filming this in 1080p30? so cropping those lenses as 1.6?
Exactly! 👌
Very Cool Stuff. I just started with video this year and also decided to go with the M50. I love this little camera! Talk about a surprising package especially considering what you'll pay for one when compared to the "big timer cameras". I know it has it's drawbacks but I don't care, I'm learning to use what I got and this thing has a lot for it's price point. These are the lenses I use, all Canon: EF-S 10-22mm, EF 85mm f/1.4L, and EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro. M50 USER'S UNITE!!!!!!
Great Video i am so glad that you have made this video i did have the 77d which i did like very much but i took on holiday with me to Thailand and i found it very heavy to carry round so i sold it , i did have interest the canon M50 but the only thing what put me of was having to buy the adapter now i have seen this video it has given me a good idea thanks again for a great video full marks.
stephen O'CONNELL Hey man! Happy I could help. Hit me up if you have some further questions and thanks for watching.
So far my favorite has been the 22mm f2 efm prime lens. Very portable and versatile. Also like the 50mm 1.8 ef stg with speed booster, great combination.
EXCELLENT Choice!
congrats, one of the best and simplest reviews out here in YT land. Thank you
Thanks for checking it out! 🙌
I have m50 too,and I have no regret
I appreciate this video bro! It's straight forward and got the point. It is easily one of the best lens reviews for the canon m50
Wow thanks a lot man! Really appreciate that you watched it. 🙌

Hello hello! I just put the link to the tripod I use in the video in the description. 🚀
We need a time stamp bro
Flip Gz Good idea!
What adapter did you use to use the nifty fifty lens?!
Bro türksün🇹🇷🙏🏻
Very well explained. No doubts left. Thank you 😊
Thanks a lot!
Great review! That's the information and confirmation I needed! Can't do much with that camera if your going to use it for filming . It makes the 10mm look like an 18mm on a crop sensor. A can know call the Canon M50 a double crap camera . Sorry its "Double Crop"...
Informative video for beginners like me. Now I have a better understanding of those lenses.
Happy to help 😊
I have a SL2 !,, subbed much love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks a lot! 🙌
Thank you for the video, really happy you showed actual videos of the difference . Thank you for the lesson
My pleasure Jude! I‘m currently working on new, easy-to-understand lens and camera videos. Would love to read your comments on them too. Have a great day!

Best video about lenses ..
Love it ..
Keep it up..
Thanks!
Fantastic video. I just bought my m50 and have already got to the point that I've been looking for my next lens. This broke down alot of the confusion. Thanks for the advice.
Happy to help! I’ll start again in two weeks making some videos about lenses so come back to check out if like. 🙌
Great video, an easy but effective video 👍🏻
Thanks a lot for watching!
I have the 22mm f/2 lens, and I love it. Such a good lens.
Bro, great content!
Keep up the good work.
Hope you get more subs.
Thanks man! Really appreciate that 🙌
Thanks again for this video, I’ve watched it before but for some reason today I really took in a lot of the information. Awesome!
My pleasure! Glad I could help. 🙌
Great video, one of the best I’ve seen with the exact comparison changing each lens before talking about it. Thank you!
Happy to help 😊
The Sigma contemporary lenses are excellent. The EF lenses with a focal reducer are also nice. I see f1.0 with my 85mm Canon lens. I don't like any kit lenses for the M series. The 22mm ef-m lens is good, but none of the other ef-m lenses that I tried produced pleasing results.
I really loved the way the whole video was. Quite informative 👌🏽
Thank you so much!
Found your page just now!!! And you rock my photography world 😎. Learned so much from you, and the way you present your video is soo creative, easy to understand the complicated stuff with the lenses. Thank you! And keep making cool videos! ❤❤❤

Great review, thanks!!👍
Happy to help! Thanks for watching. 😊
Great video bud. Exactly what I wanted to see.
Keep it with the good work!
Thanks man! Appreciate it 🙌
Great video, thanks for making it.
Cheers
Wow man! Thanks for dropping your knowledge and experience here. Really appreciate it 🙌
So much weight and cumbersome adapters -- remember, you have to remove the speed booster each time you switch lenses or the camera will give you an error msg.
22mm f2 is my daily lens since over 6 months :)
M50 should've come bundled with the 22m pancake instead of the usual 15-45mm in my opinion.
Yu Guan It‘s also my favorite lens but I think it‘s a good thing to have a zoom lens as a starter lens. So people who are just starting out can try different focal lenghts.
Great lens setup, i debating between Canon 200D & M50 but in the end I choose 200D cause I don’t want to use adapter. i only have 4 lens while i travel
kit lens STM 18-55mm ( use most time)
YN nifty fifty 1.8
Canon 10-18mm STM (used it often)
Tamron 70-300mm Di Marco (landscape)
If i got the budget i really wish to swap the kit lens to 18-135mm to give me more distance.
I have the 22mm and the nifty fifety viltrox speed booster the m50 is a great inexpensive camera for photography a great step above the smart phone photography
Great video bro 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks man!
? I have the m50 with the lens that comes with the cámara and I like I make car detailing video so I will like to know which lens to use with the adapter what you can recommend me? Thanks

Can you do a video comparing a 15 to 16 mm focal length lens and a 22 mm focal length lens at arm’s length, on a gimbal, for vlogging purposes? Great video btw.

Sure! I just did 🚀
Hey guy, thanks for your video is useful for guiding people through your practical testing of favorite Canon Lenses. My default M50's standard zoom using the EF 17-40mm f4L USM lens with EF-M mount adaptor. For the sake of lightweight in daily shooting/vlogging, I always use Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens for vlogging and EF-M 22mm f2 STM for indoor for low light photo/video.

Thanks!
Excellent video!! I’m going to be going with a couple you recommended. Also, absolutely love your energy! Keep it up! 🙌🏻🌸☺️

Glad you found the video useful! 🙌
Great video, helped a lot. I also used Canon UKs live chat service at Canon Live to help choose the right lens for me
Great video.
I have no idea what you just talked about because I'm a noob 🤔 LOL and I watched to the end and I just purchased this camera and am so excited to use it! I had the sonya6000 for 3 miserable years and I finally tossed it at the wall 😉😆
The a6000 is actually a nice camera - I had it too 😊 Enjoy your new cam!
