This is the first ff since nobue left, and as a result, the whole vibe of the ost differs markedly from previous entries. At first I didnt like it but after playing zodiac age, I gained appreciation for this game. Its actually a good game with great ost. Wats missing is perhaps a love story 😘😘😘
@@Reynsoon they squeezed every bit of juice the PS2 had to offer, technically the console was considered to be the first with HD graphics, however it was a very low res version of HD. Some people may say 480p isn't HD, but they called it HD back then. Ofc, nowadays with full HD at 1080 or higher (there mods to upscale the textures all the way up to 4k res), and a good enough display screen, it looks better than ever.
This is IMO is the best composition in the entire FF series. You can hear a lot of John Willimas inspiration, its insane, my hot take is that is even better since it has a lot more freedom with its themes, it's a lot more colorful! but still cohesive. The best part of the song comes at 1:37, I love how he plays with the secondary sounds each of which plays their independent part until eventually they reach a cathartic peak all in unison. Sakimoto is a genius.
Some tracks in the original are better simply because the live violin is pitchy on some of the TZA tracks. The Estersand village theme is the most notable example. Most tracks, though, are enhanced. Also, the newly composed tracks are fantastic and seamless imo. Tchita Uplands new theme is so damn epic, as well as Elder Wyrm's new battle theme.
@@TheRoshan89 personally i think the original OST is better. For Zodiac Age some of the tracks they tried to complicate more and they lost some of that simplicity and crispness that worked (see esper boss theme). So overall the original OST is more consistent and I prefer it tbh. However, there are definitely at least a few tracks where Zodiac Age definitely hit it out of the park. This one for example is absolutely amazing, and all the little flourishes really work and it just makes it absolutely magical. I love the violin in this. Sounds for sure better than in the original OST. Probably my favourite track in the zodiac age OST (thats....why I'm here...) There are also some new tracks which is pretty sick! Both soundtracks are amazing anyway. edit: yeah i think you can hear the separate instruments better in the new ost which works brilliantly for some tracks but for others i reckon it sounded better in the original one where they all blended in and meshed together better to create the track. in some tracks the extra little flourishes of the zodiac age well and truly work. in others I'm not a huge fan, though none of them ruin things for me. in esper battle theme i hate the trumpets about a minute in in the zodiac age ost, which they changed the tune a bit from the original. however at the same time, the deep strings 15 seconds earlier sound godly.
I have been replaying this recently and I only just noticed that the Rabanastre theme is a slowed down version of this music. I noticed the first time round that the same theme appears in the Boss Battle music, and the Mosphoran Highwaste (among others) but even years later I'm still noticing connections in the music.
Honestly this track gives me the same "freedom and excitement with a hint of nostalgia" kind of vibes as Fossil Falls from Mario Odysssey....... and any OST giving me that kind of vibe right out the gate already has me hooked. lol
I was sad when I heard Nobuo Uematsu would not be principally involved in the OST. Sakimoto had a tough act to follow, but the ff12 OST is incredible. Clearly different from Uematsu, very much his own recognisable style. I had played Valkyria Chronicles and instantly thought "hey... this *feels* familliar."
Want to play this again. But idk if I should start from the beginning or just continue my save and play endgame content. I just wanna exist in this world again.
I hate that dilemma, I go through it all the time with different games. I usually restart and find it was the correct choice, but sometimes you can pull off continuing if it was a game you were really into and can remember a lot of it
This track has seriously had an impact on me! XD I first heard it yeeears ago before my girlfriend and I had even moved in together back when I went over to hers and she was randomly playing it on her Switch. This particular theme instantly had me hooked. Since then, I've kept meaning to buy the game, and now, years later, I have a physical copy in the mail on its way to me now, and that's not at all to say that during the years between that I didn't come back to this video multiple times to get my fix of what's in incredible bit of music :P
@@brisonCAD It definitely takes some getting used to. I tend to go into games with context in mind (ie, if it's old, you can't go in expecting it to feel as up to date as currently games and have to roll with those punches), the minimap not rotating with my character is admittedly a big one I'm having trouble with! XD Aside from that, I'd say the story is a tad convoluted, maybe I'm just stupid haha! But otherwise, I'm loving the gameplay, the gambit systems and am slowly coming to terms with the license system! Managed to defeat my first summon, so I'm not a complete disaster just yet :P I'm also playing the game at 2x speed, I find it doesn't take anything away from the game and allows me to grind and navigate to and from quicker than I'd otherwise be doing, which is honestly a bit of a godsend for me. I enjoy taking my time in games, but again, since this feature doesn't exactly stifle the experience, I simply keep it turned on :)
@@mAcroFaze That's actually a very fair and elaborate review! I'm not blind to the game's flaws but I think it's 100% more than the sum of its parts. 2x speed is a godsend, aye, but do try to take in the sights and the setting - Ivalice has always been fantastic but its context has never been this fully realized before or since. Hope it's a thoroughly enjoyable experience!
Gotta agree, honestly. I'm not hating XVI, but XII felt like the last time they knew what the game's identity was and stayed true to it. Everything since has felt like they've been actively trying to NOT make a final fantasy game.
This track is amongst the longest and complicated(like less repeating melodies or motifs at least) in the game Which does make myriad of the other tracks sounds.... weirdly unfinished(cuz they would be considerably shorter by comparison) Methinks

The theme of seeing that dinosaur, trying to kill it, and failing miserably
Everyone did that lol.
ah yes, level 1 Vaan hitting level 20 Diresaur
@@mbern4530 yeah lol

this track really was the start of my FF12 world journey. one of my fav tracks even today

My god how I miss those nights playing this game like crazy fully immersed and having so much fun.
This game REALLY benefits from the HD treatment... Those colors. Mmmm-mm!
Not that the original was any slouch either - how in the heck did they pull off those graphics on the PS2? But HD certainly lets everything pop!

Yea, many tracks from FFXII are pure genius.
The best thing about this game is the fact we can travel to different lands. I wish the game was longer.
This really feels like the theme song of this game. What an expirience.
It pretty much is the theme song of the game
The music loop is about 2 minutes long, but it is so rich and dense that flows continuosly without effort. Amazing composition!
That orchestration! Woooooow!!!!!
God how will I balance FFXIV and this?
Za Warubro You'll figure out something. I'm trying to figure that out as well.

I spent nights at my grandmas house playing the PS2 version. This game is so good.
I was just punched in the nostalgia
Amazing how this game's OST feels like home.
Haha that rogue tomato 🍅
Man this is nostalgic
This reminds me of home, such an incredible piece of score.
I gotta say they did an amazing job with the soundtrack for the Zodiac Age, so much that i think its acually better than the original soundtrack.

Love Sakimoto's work. :)
Absolutely. Sakimoto has a very distinct style.
I must not be the only one who keeps misspelling this place/theme's name as "Eastersand".. 😔
It was just too good playing this with all thoses songs. Discovering the plots and training your team. Ff12 & tactics always were my favorite.
