FF12 is easily my favourite. The world felt so big and massive, the ps2 really got stretched to its limits and it was such a good experience. I loved the grander and more refined shall we say approach to the story, its even reflected in the musical scores. Everything feels so much "higher fantasy" kind of vibe and the aesthetic really felt good. Side quests were plentiful and the game could be really challenging back in the days without much information around. Random over levelled mobs and rare hunts and such made the world feel dangerous. Finding hidden chests and secrets...awwh man, the nostalgia.
An Ivalician MMO would be amazing. XII was the last FF installment I had respect for or cared for , besides parts of XIV. It was overlooked and underrated. It felt like an adventure.
your last point is a huge reason why 12 is my favorite single player entry in the series, even though i love the other games for different reasons, the visual direction + soundtrack + map design in 12 struck this perfect chord where out of all the games, it feels the most like you're journeying into unknown lands with their own secrets and histories to uncover. Whenever I enter places like the salikawood, golmore jungle, or even some of the towns, i wish i was actually there or the game let me go past the barriers of the map to keep discovering things. I still wish we got to go to Rozarria.
its wildly unappreciated comparitively, i wish they maintained this trajectory with FFXIII, which despite having more cutscenes then playtime felt like the story was less compelling and the gameplay dragged on. i just recently started replaying FFXI for the first time in 20 years on the horizon xi private server and am enjoying it thoroughly.
I spent many moons on XI. I still revisit it's OST. I'll return once I have another PC. I left post Treasures of Aht Urghan in the day so there's plenty of story to finish on retail. I heard Horizon and Nasomi are good classic servers that still retain a decent player base. XI had its problems but it still owns XIV in many regards, since it is an actual MMO.
Honestly, I can't argue that at all. It was amazingly well made even if I'm not too fond of the post-endgame content compared to other Final Fantasy games, but that's just my opinion. Some loved it enough to beat every post-endgame boss and 100% the game.
FF12 is my most memorable FF game to me, because I think it differs so much from the other installments. From the gameplay, to the story, and the side quests, it focuses more on the exploration and isn't as heavy or "doom and gloom" as other games. I think that's what makes FF12 so fun and carefree. Truly, you feel like a sky pirate.
I've tried to capture that feeling of running the streets of Rabastre dreaming of being a sky pirate in several of the D&D adventures I've ran. It's a great early adventurer vibe. Crossing things off the bounty boards for your first time.
This FF has the most extras outside of main story, that is what i always loved about ff's, the extra stuff, secret bosses, secret weapons etc. A shame what happend to the series after this last one. Thanks for this vid, i can feel all the love you've put into its creation.
on rare nights the ff 12 will be summon and bestowed the liveliness of ivalice to mankind (tysm for giving ff12 a screen time idk why people hate it so much)
older FF fans werent getting their angst teenage fanfic story for the 5th time, so they didnt like FF12. Other than that, the fact that there is no clear protagonist(according to older fans) made it feel like it was part of an entirely different series, which to be fair, is kinda true but I think it was for the best
@@ptrjiji5672 it wasnt my first but I really loved it, the world, the mediterranean-middle eastern aesthetics which I think are so underrated in fantasy games, the gameplay(which would later be used as a base for other top tier games like xenoblade) and the OST, the composer is able to encompass the sense of mystery and discovery of Ivalice pretty well
@@Left4Cigarettes yes the indo european vibes were very big and i took note of this as well. its interesting that you see mediterranean / middle eastern. i was thinking french / indian for some reason.
Thank you for posting this, FF12 has always been my favourite out of the series. I love the character and world designs, use of old english and the music. Not a perfect game of course, but there are few that are! More people should give it a chance! I think its overlooked by some fans bc they always expect their heartstrings to be tugged, like with 10, but this is a game focusing on the logical rather than the emotional, with the nuance and political intrigue. Still has emotional moments, but overall more grounded in logic. And such stories shouldnt be ignored.
I don't think it's the best game of the series (I prefer 7 and 10), but I must admit I really liked it, also because it's a little different than the others. I loved the world design, the summons, the middle-east vibes... and Gilgamesh :D
I love the camerawork, It gives this masterpiece of a game that I have been playing and replaying since its original release on the ps2 a whole .. not 'new' per say, but a 'MORE' microscopic look? like its exposing all the little things I loved about the game but was not able to put my hand on or words to... if that makes sense
I know Squeare Enix is infamous about taking down their Live orchestra videos from TH-cam but Im atill really upset that there has never been a full one orchestra concert for FF12(like how they did with Nier Automata, as in a bunch of themes in succession) even though they exclaimed that Zodiac Age have reorchestrated the tracks
For many I think it varies from track to track. Some tracks feel deeper re-orchestrated, some feel watered down as they focused on other instruments compared to the original rendition. Similar to the FF10 ost and its re-orchestrated counterpart. So I wouldn't say you're alone. :)
I am not a fan of orchestral versions, because they usually sound too bombastic and overfull. But these pieces are the exception, they are light and kind of ethereal - I'm listening right now and appreciating :)
I have mixed feelings about the re-orchestrated music to be honest. Some tracks fill much needed holes in the soundtrack, others are the same as the original, and a few others overcomplicate or water down the original music. The real good works were adding music to the Third Ascent of the Pharos, the Pharos Subterra, and the boss music added for the bossfight at the Golmore Jungle.
I never finished the game but I remember playing this game as kid for countless hours, great vid

I know right. That feeling of discovery you get as you explore the game for the first time is amazing with all the cool places and ships.
Its the best ff in my opinion. I love the world, graphics, music, characters...

Ff16 was an incredible experiencie as well tbh
But yeah, 12 is so unique ngl
Its the finest ff game ever. Its the best out of the whole series in my opinion and i love many ff games. Easily one of the best games ever made.

I really want to live inside this game
thank you for including ff12's beautiful depiction of ivalice, it makes this so much better
The world of Ivalice will always be very special to me. I love that XII let us explore that world.

This game had such incredible atmosphere and world-building.
The clips really make this video awesome 👏 A return to Ivalice ❤

Thanks
Can you make streets of rabanastre extended ?
I really fckn wish there was another Ivalice FF. (tactics looks too old for me I just can't play it)
"Near the Water" and "Penelo's Theme" sound better in the Original version.
What an amazing game. If only Square had used one of their cliche FF protagonists.
FFXII. Ivalice. Best Final Fantasy setting. Absolute snoozefest of a story.
