Well done and I like the fact you kept it real i.e. old screwdrivers, dry rags, multiple rams versus one solid, most video tutorials wouldn’t do that in the video but in all actuality do just that
@THE Compressor Guru Hello, Compressor Guru and Mrs Trophy Wife!
Thanks for these videos, they’ve given me the courage to attempt a rebuild of our 2545. I don’t know why our unit has no Governor assy mounted on the end of the crank behind the cover plate, but apparently it never had one.
My question is this: After days of pounding on the crankshaft (on the flywheel nut of course), it simply refuses to exit the case; hasn’t budged a millimeter.
The boss spent $500 on this overhaul kit, and he’s getting impatient not seeing any progress. I finally told him I would try to contact THE Guru in hopes of suggestions; but in case you’d be too busy to respond, my only option would be to try to remove and replace the rod bearing with the shaft still inside the case, and then clean and reassemble as normal.
Obviously, we’d much prefer to replace the three roller bearings - especially after they’ve suffered days of hammer force - but they still seem to be great condition; the shaft spins smoothly.
Yes, this would be a $500 roll of the dice, but I can’t just keep beating on the end of the shaft. If I don’t get this machine put back together soon, it’s liable to be scrapped; the boss isn’t going to waste any more time and money on it.
Thanks for any advice you might have! Take care, and God Bless. ✝️
Edit:: Additional Info: The snap-ring was already removed from the crankshaft, so that’s not what’s keeping the shaft from coming out.
Also, this unit doesn’t have that Crankcase Pressure-Relief valve and line in the cover plate - maybe that explains why there’s no governor assy inside on the end of the crank…?
And just FYI, the reason for the complete rebuild on this unit was because the LP connecting rod grenaded. Thankfully, it didn’t do much collateral damage, other than the piston got a few dings along the bottom edge. It still slides fine inside the cylinder. I suggested replacing the piston as well, but the boss prefers that I try to salvage this one, rather than pay another hundred dollars or more for a new one.
thanks for the trophy wife comment I will tell her.
first there is a good 2545 and a cheaper 2545. the cheaper has no unloader weights. that make the unloader plumbing simpler!
stop pounding on the nut! is there a snap ring around the main bearing under the seal housing cover. you may have it hammered flush tight to the crank case now. that crank will not come out unless you take that ring off.
as I read the edit you already got the snap ring.
next step to pushing the crank out is put it in a hydraulic press add some pressure. and Just a little heat on the crankcase outside where the bearings would be.
I am guessing the piston can be dressed up and used ( I have seen some real messes used and survived)
it would be a shame to scrap that pump a new 1 is $3000. where are you located? you can contact me through thecompressorguru.com
I would be glad to hear from you . Bud
to bad your boss didn't contact me we are some cheaper than 500 for a rebuild kit.
@@THECompressorGuru Thanks you sir for the reply. I did actually try to contact you through the website - I mainly wanted to see if you had any salvageable used parts available; and also wanted to see if you had a link to that song you included in the teardown video, I think you said it was André Thompson? - but unfortunately, the website appeared to be unavailable; I tried three times, then assumed you and the wife had closed the website. I will try again though.
We’re located out here on the Left Coast, in Southern Commiefornia.
