      lc2051 my Highlander is not as quiet as I expected, primarily when reaching higher speeds or on uneven road surfaces. Toyota advertises this vehicle as having a quiet cabin. I don’t think so. Others on “Toyota Highlander Owners Club” have complained about the noise level as well.

  • @MikeKayK
    @MikeKayK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The road surface as well as tires (and pressures) are both going to contribute. First thing I do when I buy a car is upgrade the crappy tires that mass-market car manufacturers usually install. Go with a touring tire like a Yokohama Avid Touring-S for a quieter ride.

    • @Sh0ckwave23
      @Sh0ckwave23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also the 2020 is in manual ECO mode which will help keep the engine noise down. As a comparison my 2019 XLE gas is producing the same numbers as the 2020 in this video. So in my opinion the hood insulation has done little to nothing to lower the engine noise.

  • @rideforfun123
    @rideforfun123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a "blanket" just above the engine on a 2019 rav4. It is not a hard plastic engine cover just for looking, when you touch it, feel like a foam. Actually it functions as heat and noise blocker. It is a new idea from Toyota for cut weight or cost or both? You can buy one from Toyota for just under $200(hood liner), but it only do a little to help on reduce the noise. I feel the car only get noisy when the car is cold or you floor it. I am totally fine with my 2019 rav4 xle, that kind of noise doesn't bother me at all.

    The objectionable noise I have in my 2019 RAV is not from the engine, but rather from the road. There seems to be a lot of road noise from the rear of the RAV. On certain pavement surfaces, it is really noticeable.

    • @ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog
      @ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With ten windows down on mine you get a noticeable clank/clank/clank when slowing down (happens at around 18-20 mph as the car slows). I originally thought it was road noise but heard it audibly in a quiet residential neighborhood (only with windows down can you hear it). Took it to the dealer and they’re in the process of researching it as I rode with the service manager and he heard it also. Narrowed it down to the new dynamic torque vectoring system disengaging. Was told that it’s “normal” and boy was I 😡. They’re still supposed to be getting with their engineers in order to see if there is a solution but I really wish I had stayed away from this tin can. Really want to love it but it’s had a few problems that a brand new car should never have (mooing sound, transmission lurch, etc...)

    From your video it is very obvious they have recognized their mistakes and main complaints. The sound is definetely quieter. Also it is good the 8 speed transmission is smoother on the first and second gear for the gas model. This is why it is important to not buy the first year of a totally redesigned new model. The model 2020 is better and the 2020 hybrid gets 10 years 150k miles warranty. However The price has increased especially on the limited with android auto and the warranty.we will see the plug in that should have 50 miles 80km range and seems to have the 360 camera on the xse design..maybe the 10 inch screen from the highlander. Geez the American market of RAV4’s have way too many options. In Australia we have just 4 models to choose from with the top 2 being fully optioned out. Makes it a lot less confusing and helps with resale value as you don’t need to go hunting for specific cars with specific options if shopping for a used car. Only thing we really have to choose is 2WD or AWD/Petrol or Hybrid. There’s no packages to choose from either, just accessories.

    I'm a bit taller..(6'3").. Toyota really needs to come out with a real SUV again that sits up higher - instead of these lower over crossovers. With every new version of the Highlander, RAV4, Sienna, etc. Toyota (and other manufactorers) make the new version's stance lower and lower. I sat in this new RAV4 and the ceiling is way too low - making for very cramped headroom and generally uncomfortable cabin. I like to sit up for a high commanding view of the road - thats why I bought a SUV a long time ago. When you sit up higher you see better, which is more enjoyable to drive and safer (and make the vehicle more comfortable). This older versions (10 -20 years ago) of the Highlander, RAV4 and Sienna were far better than the newer versions. The 4Runner is nice and high with an excellent traditional dashboard (nice big knobs and simple traditional controls) .. but it is too focused on off road driving - which makes it not as quite and smooth on the road. Another idea for Toyota is make a version of the 4Runner that is the same except improving it for road (not off road) driving.. (i.e. make it smooth and quite and traditional).. Or maybe make a slightly smaller version of the Land cruiser that is mostly the same, but make it a bit less heavy duty - and cut the price in half. Toyota, you should listen to me - these would be big sellers!!

    My 2019 Toyota Camry SE 4 cylinder engine is very loud even with the noise blanket. This is my 3rd Camry 2005, 2012, and now 2019. The 2019 produce the most road and wind noise out of the 3 to me. I don't understand why Toyota can't seem to fix this problem still after all these years. I still love the car but wish it was quieter and for the love God please let Toyota do an upgrade and add android auto to the 2019 models.

For those few like Ahmad who really love it, it'll be there for those folks. I think it's crap too. Just a way to get the "city" mileage up for the EPA folks.

  • @Soh90
    @Soh90 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good to see. I’ve never driven the RAV4 but I heard reviews that said it was very loud under acceleration. My wife has a C-HR Limited and that thing is extremely loud under acceleration so I largely believed the RAV4 reviews. We wanted to trade in the C-HR for a RAV4 in two years and this new addition of more sound deadening pretty much seals the deal.
    Unless of course Toyota decides to offer the lovely Corolla Trek Wagon here in the states. Wishful thinking though lol.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if this test is remotely accurate, the difference will still be between "really loud"and pretty much just as "really loud" as the 2019. It's not going to be a transformation.

    Toyotajeff, I downloaded the same app and tested my Rav 4 LE 2016 and at 70 mph smooth pavement I averaged about 68 to 69 decibels and 71 to 72 decibels at 80 mph.
    When I pushed the peddle to the floor at 60 mph it registers 75 decibels.
    Road conditions plays a big part. If I drove over an overpass bump it would jump 5 decibels.
    I noticed you hit 80 decibels a couple times which tells me generation 5 is louder than the generation 4 and that is why I went with the hybrid gen 5

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They basically had to add more sound insulation to the 2020 compared to the 2019 to make it only slightly noisier than the 2018 - great engineering and just another reason to buy something that's been in production a while not the early years of a new model. Between the noise, 8 speed trans issues and the direct injection motor hanging on to the old model for a couple more years seems the way to go. All manufacturers racing to meet the EPA requirements seem to be sending a lot of underdeveloped technologies into the marketplace currently with the customer being the guinea pig.

      This was my opinion before experiencing a good implementation of it. My dad's Wrangler JL has it. I drove the Jeep around, and was amazed that the start/stop was incredibly unobtrusive. I think it all comes down to the individual case of how it is implemented. It is also quite seamless in my hybrid RAV.
