Lexus / Toyota V6 will be made in collaboration with Mazda. The future CX-50 hybrid system will be the Toyota Rav4 synergy components! Both made in same factory in Alabama!!
I build these cars. People hate on them because they are made in the US instead of Japan, but I strongly disagree. We take great care to ensure quality and our facility is brand new and state of the art. I take great pride in building these cars, and they look and drive amazingly. I cant disclose anything specific, but look out for the hybrid very soon. Thanks for giving us at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing some love!!!
Saw something that the CX-50's projected lifespan is only like 80,000 miles (a Mazda dealer actually said this). Do you think that's true? I know the CX-5s last a long time so why wouldn't this?
My husband and I had our minds made up on getting the Subaru Forester Wilderness but ended up changing our minds and went with the cx-50 because it doesn't have CVT.
I'm in Australia. Looking for a used car myself, and here the Mazda holds a far better resale value than the Subaru, and I think there's multiple reasons for that.
My wife and I both just purchased 2024 CX50’s. She purchased her’s first and I liked it so much I purchased the same Premium Plus. The only difference is the exterior color. Very happy with them and 0% for 60 months is hard to beat.
Hmmm...I'm only seeing 0% for three years for several turbo models, and 2.9% as low as 1.9% for the non-turbo model. I'm considering the 2024 Turbo Premium. First considered the Meridian, but certain features are not available.
This is the BEST video you've ever made (production quality wise and delivery) and is better than most when it comes from the approach of a mechanic. Thank you for this!
honestly, just wanted to echo this. whoever did the production of this video is amazing! this format is very educational and engaging, please do more videos like this. i feel like i actually learned something about car mechanics and terminology beyond the usual specifications.
You are Very lucky. Our CX5 2016 with 76000 miles has had a lot of issues. Compared to my Toyota and Nissan experience, the maintenance and repair is way higher in this Mazda Model (3 times at least). 2 Axles(very expensive) , 2 Arms(expensive), bands, lamps, rear seat latch, head gasket, regular maintenance is more expensive at least in MX. It is also very, very noisy (wind) when driving above 65mph. I was going to buy another Mazda before the Axles issue because I like the look of the car, but now I'm going to buy an ugly Toyota RAV4, more reliable.
@@scotthiddleston8246 I just traded in a 2016 Mazda CX5 for the CX50. The CX5 had a 100,000 miles with no issues whatsoever. Rode better and was quieter than when it was brand new as the OEM tires were disappointing to say the least. They wore out quick and were the source of noise that I thought was the car. Only bought the CX50 for the wife to be under warranty again. I guess either I got lucky or the 76,000 mile fellow got a lemon. Then again he did mention MX at the end of his comment after saying CX5 at the beginning so I’m unsure what vehicle he had issues with.
@@jetsengoytredkl Wasn't the MX a hybrid coupled with a rotary engine... yes, I said it, a rotary engine? If that's true, no wonder he had such a horrible time with it!
I have a 2023 CX-50, picked in July 2022 and currently have 16,500 on the motor. The cars feel sporty and likes to be driven sporty. Only issue is the gas mileage can be abysmal when you drive the car in sport mode with the shift gate. But the payoff is you have way more control than any CVT.
I am not sure I understand your CVT comment. I had a 2019 Honda Accord with CVT, the most powerful car I ever owned. That car ran like a rocket while boasting 35+ mpg. Simply unbeatable, unstoppable. I did 168k in 16 months with that car! Incredible!! Consistently set my adjustable cruise at 88 on Texas Interstates from South of Houston and San Antonio through DFW to New Mexico. Me, the trucks and all those oil bound pickup trucks. Just an amazing machine!! I had a Mazda 5 in about 2007. Loved it, but it started feeling like an old go-cart at about 45k. Certainly, the cx-50 is better quality. It is just hard for me to go away from Honda ever again.
@@davidlemons5650 168k in 16 months will work with most any CVT logging long miles on interstates. But if you live in the mountains on non-public roads, a CVT get wrecked by the continuous torque load climbing steep hills that do not exist on public roads. I hear the regularly coming past my house, and the sound is unmistakable. Sort of a task/purpose/use mindset.
@@davidwalker7945I am sure mountains are harder on any transmission. I climbed plenty around Los Alamos, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, back down to Alamagardo. New Mexico doesn't have the biggest mountains, but they are no joke. You are right, I spent a lot of time on Interstates. I certainly didn't drive 88 mph climbing up New Mexico hills and mountains. I trust them.
@@davidlemons5650 I’ve owned several Hondas over the years with regular transmissions. Great cars. In 2015 I was in the market for a mid size SUV. Honda had gone to the CVT. At the time they had issues with it shaking when stopped while in drive. Some even nicknamed it the shimmy/shake CVT. I went with the Mazda CX5 instead of the Honda for this reason. No issues whatsoever with the Mazda CX5. I recently purchased the CX50. I’m glad to hear Honda has the shimmy/shake problem corrected. I still like Hondas but Mazdas just as well. Both are great vehicles for a reasonable cost……
Mazda is very underrated. Superbly engineeed and assembled vehicles. .just measure the panel gaps. They're in a different league above the other Japanese and korean competition.
GREAT video Scotty. I just bought the 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo PP in Zircon Sand + terracotta interior for under $44K. I am older and have owned several other Mazdas. This new CX-50 is amazing. It is so rewarding to drive...fun. It doesn't "look" like anything else out there. To me it is a steal of a deal -- with AWD, comfortable ride, zippy handling, quality, and all options with the PP
I'm current.y on my 3rd Mazda, a 2014 Mazda 6 bought new in 2013. Prior to that, a 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback. And even more prior, an RX-7 that I bought new in 1979 (yeah, I'm old). To date, I've put on close to 500,000 miles combined with almost zero forced maintenance, with the exception of an A/C compressor on the 3 and a failed sensor on the 6. The CX-50 is now on my radar. I find Mazda to be more stylish and more reliable than most of its competition.
Im in the same place age-wise and pov. I have had 6 Mazdas going back to the 70s RX7 up thru the GLC hatchback, 626GT,another 626GT, Millenia S and now a 2011 Miata MX5. In between, have had a Lexus SC 300, Honda Prelude, Accord, Camry as my wifes cars. The older Hondas and Toyotas were very good cars too but only the Prelude was remotely fund to drive. The Lexus looked sporty and was quiet as hell inside but drove like a Camry. Meanwhile, even my little 80 GLC with a stick had balls and was fun. All were very reliable except the only one that was heavily Ford influenced and made in MI, the Millenia. Fun to drive but at around 93K miles and 10 years it started to have lots of issues, all Ford components. Looking to replace my wifes 2006 Accord with 145K miles and have driven the CRV and the RAV4 and neither is exciting driving dynamics. The RAV is loud and feels underpowered and handles poorly. I was actually disappointed because I see lots of them in HI where I live but a good friend who is a mechanic says they have lost their way with the CVT. My nieces 3 year old new CRV has had issues with oil and gas mixing, trans slippage and a few minor things. NEW car. Her first new car out of college. Her prior CRV was 20+ years old and a beater that went 230K miles. The new ones are NOT the same. I will say that with Mazdas, I like buying the ones from Japan better. The QC just seems to be better. I have been stalking alot of FB groups for the CX5 and 50 and there are some issues with the 50 like windshields, rattles, etc. Nicer looking vehicle but I might be more inclined to go with the CX5 as older, more proven technology.
I wanted a RAV4 but I couldn't get a good deal. In a way I'm glad I got the CX5 instead. Premium interior, Bose sound system, AWD, double pained glass/quiet ride, 25mpg mixed, standard transmission. Naturally aspirated and plenty of power. It is a pleasure to drive and a beast in the snow. I couldn't be happier. By the way it even has an automatic trunk opener...
RAV4s are selling for too high a price compared to their competitors on the used market right now. Comparing the used CR-Vs and RAV4s with similar specs, the RAV4 will always be selling for 2 or 4 thousand more than the CR-V. I think it's just a known car that people go for but there isn't enough people trading it in yet to satisfy the demand. I'm currenty leaning towards the CR-V but now will consider the Mazda based on all the comments I've been reading on this video.
I was going back and forth between the RAV4 and cx-50. after a ton of thought and test driving, I bought a 2025 cx-50 preferred and it's the best car I've ever owned.
I have a Rav4 XSE hybrid on order. Fantastic fuel economy but as you get to higher trim lines and options it can get very expensive. My Rav4 will cost $44k. The out the door price will be $51k. There is a little more than $10k difference between the Rav4 I ordered and the CX-50. That $10k I save by buying the CX-50 can provide me with 57k miles of driving. Something that needs to be considered when choosing between a hybrid & gas vehicle. Another thing that interests me in the CX-50 is the 0% financing being offered.
I waited and got the Cx-50, and so far, so good. I was a Toyota fan and was going to get the Rav4, but the AWD was the deciding factor, plus the interior and comfort of CX-50 was a plus.
i agree, CX50 is better of all its competitors out there.. Simple to use, PHYSICAL BUTTONS and KNOBS for all controls. no complex engine and tranny, interior material quality and design much much better than toyota or honda i own one. for almost 8 months now. only downside is the gas mileage, its lesser than all its competitors.
Mazda turned me off because I will need to use dials for all Android auto controls. In Toyota I can type where I want to go without having my phone out, try that in the Mazda. Other than that Mazda is really good for non-hybrid, would also like to see Skyactiv-X come to the US.
@mazibukomail Weight is the reason-the cx-50 weights almost 2 tons. Just go and compare the front doors of a cx-50 with a rav-4 and you will see a difference . Why- safety and quality. Cvt 's are also significantly lighter than the stronger and durable conventional torque transmissions-in addition the difference in performance and driving experience is real.
I have a 2020 CX5 thats been almost perfect since I got it. I have just one issue with the infotainment screen that will be fixed. No CVT trans, no gimmicks and its dependable. I would easily get a CX50 but Im not sure about hybrids....more things that could go wrong...but I do like the idea of better mileage without committing to a full EV.
One thing to remember, all the more cheaper competition against Mazda all use Ecvt, or CVT. Those break and you’re looking at anywhere from $7k-$15k, and there are example of this happening to vehicles with only 7k miles.😮
I bought my first Mazda (GLC) in 1982 and it was a... Great Little Car. We currently have a 2016 CX-5 (bought new) and it's been flawless. Will be buying another Mazda (CX-50 or CX-70) in the next couple of years. Have to agree there is nothing better in the segment. Also, I've owned several new Audis over the years, and I think Mazda is a FAR better value, and as a surprising bonus, the driving experience (and interior finishes) are comparable. Great brand - great review!!!
Have had Mazda 6s, 3s, two MX5 s. ALL excellent vehicles with NO major breakdowns after hundreds of thousands of miles. Now considering a hybrid and VERY interested in the 50 hybrid or a RAV4 prime...will wait and compare them...😎
We just bought a 2024 CX-50. I preferred the style, interior & features more than the competition. And, they’re not a dime a dozen like all the others.
Scotty i bought the CX5 for my wife after watching a video of yours. I am so satisfied with it. I test drive the CRV and RAv4 and I finished buying because it doesn't have turbo engine and ctv transmission. The ride is much more comfortable and fun. Thanks, Scotty.
Bought a 2023 CX-50 Meridian Turbo back in November. Already put 6,000 miles on the thing and I absolutely love it. By far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. Really fun to drive
I bought a CX-50 in April of 2022. It was the first one in my state. I got it unexpectedly because I was getting an oil change in my cx-9 and saw it on the showroom floor. It’s been by far the best car I’ve ever driven or owned, and that’s compared to sports cars and other crossovers. It’s not the fastest car on the road, but for its capabilities, it’s definitely the best car on the road. As of writing this, I’m just under 52,000 miles and haven’t had any issues either
I chose the 2024 Rav4 non hybrid. It's got good naturally aspirated power and the Rav4 has really proven itself in the past imo. I passed my 2005 Rav4 down to my son and bought me a new one. The most major thing i ever had to do to my 2005 was change a right rear brake caliper at 190.000 miles. Regular oil and filter changes will keep a motor running and sounding smooth. 🤟
I had an ‘07. Starter went out within a month. Alternator went 3x, $1k a pop. Transmission shot at 130k. Put a new one in and motor mounts took a dump. I don’t think we even got to 150k on that trash pile.
I never thought that I would say this, but I prefer MAZDA over Toyota and Honda now. Mazda just offers better premium vehicles that are just as well-built. They come with better safety ratings, better safety features, better interiors, better features and more power along with standard AWD. I did my research this past year. I was open to buying a Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Subaru or even Ford. I ended up choosing the Mazda -- because it was the better overall choice.
Scotty, I am loveing your content. I used to not be the biggest fan, but the editing in your videos and the knowledge I gain from them is much appreciated!
I have the ‘21 CX-5 Naturally aspirated engine. This is my first Mazda. This is a great vehicle. I test drove the RAV-4 before my Mazda pick. Rav is a great vehicle, BUT it’s very noisy due to loud Engine whine. CX-5 is very quiet, Mazda did a great job keeping the cabin quiet. Overall, I am so happy with my Mazda and would definitely choose Mazda again if the time comes.
used to have a used 01 mazda protege because I couldnt afford a honda accord at the time (6k difference both used). Man what a great car took me nearly 7 years to get rid of it and sold it cheap.
Just got my 2024 CX5 with 0% for 36 months. Try getting that deal with any other manufacturer. It was the deciding factor for me. It offsets the relatively low gas mileage. The interior is luxurious, so that is a plus. Bullet proof 6 speed trans does not hunt around for the right gear, like Rav 4 does.
It's more than just the transmission. Skyactiv system is balancing the power between all 4 tires to optimize grip without losing control due to under or oversteering. The moose test simulates a high speed turn around a moose which crossed onto the road in front of you. Doing 40mph, you cut a hard left into the oncoming lane, followed by a hard right to get back to the right lane. Toyota Rav didn't successfully complete it as it could not maintain 40mph throughout. It barely did the hard left, but nearly rolled at the hard right turn. Mazda did it successfully all the way to a constant speed of 49mph before the rear wheels drifted slightly. If you want to see it in action, I recommend searching on YT for CX-5 hill climb, or CX-5 Nurburgring (This one uses a 1st gen, 1st model year CX-5 in 2013 and did it in 9:22 which is slower than a Ferarri Testarossa by only 8 seconds.)
Just got a 2024 CX-50 with the premium trim package and there's so much to learn. Going to love this car. BTW... get outfitted with WeatherTech cargo liner and front mats. You'll be glad you did.
Note that Hertz didn't dump 20,000 2-year old EVs for new Hybrids; they dumped them, 80% being Teslas, for traditional ICE vehicles. Learn from the mistakes made by Hertz, and others.
Because hybrids aren't available in large numbers. Hybrids sell faster than EVs or ICE. They can't wait 6 months to get 50 Hybrids when there are 50 ICE sitting on the lot collecting dust for dirt cheap.
@@mikej238 - A potential factor might also be that hybrids tend to be 7% more expensive to insure. Repair costs for hybrids are often more expensive as well.
@@richardm4706 wrong wrong and wrong . 3x you are out@. People who rent cars don't give a crap about mpg Rental companies are figuring that out. They only keep their cars for 2 or 3 years tops before selling them off. Have you ever rented a car?
Mike is correct. Most car rental is business travel, and mileage/gas bills are just on the expense report turns in the following Monday. At first it was novel and exciting to rent an EV, especially on the company dime. However like the Prius before it, eventually the novelty wears off and people realize a Model 3 is just a pretty boring economy car. The Model S was sexy as a style copy of an Aston Martin but the T3 and Y are just appliances.
I love my CX-50. Coming up on one year of driving it on FEB 16. At 26,000 miles right now. Works great in the north GA mountains where I live. Very "planted" feel in the non-standard private roads in lots of areas which are paved, but not to DOT standards for grade and turn radius. While it is no rock crawler, does plenty well on non paved paths and pretty good in the snow.
I like the Looks of the Mazda. They are very sharp. However, I enjoy my 2022 RAV4 Limited Hybrid a LOT. It is not a perfect vehicle by any means but it is near perfect enough for me. People say they do not like/trust the CVT. I too like a regular Transmission over a CVT. Then again Toyota's CVT is actually a *e-CVT* A 'Planetary Drive'. No BELTS/BANDS. Just Gears so there is no 'Rubberbanding' when you accelerate. Plus Toyota builds their own e-CVT's. Not outsourced like a Nissan for example. If I did not have a Toyota to purchase I would go with Mazda for sure. Mazda needs to make this vehicle with a Hybrid engine.
Been a Toyota guy but still miss my Mazda 3 2015 when they started the koda design in 2014. Went back to Toyota and miss the zoom zoom. Both are reliable as hell.
I've had mine since last July. This is not a winter car at all. It takes forever to warm up, and the defroster does an upside triangle to windshield from the central vent. No heated steering wheel. The remote start work with an app, which doesn't always work. It usually tells us the car is unlocked even when it's not. And it turns off as soon as you open the doors. The liftgate doesn't always close or open. We've even had issues with the power door locks and windows.
Our 2011 Mazda 2 Sport 1.5L gas gets the Scotty recommended 5000 mile oil changes snd doesnt use a drop between, so very impressed. Keeping a close eye on the underbody as the MoT (roadworthiness) testers here in the UK still can't handle seeing surface "rust staining" on the major compoents (axle, sub-fram etc) which comes with all Japanese autos.
Bought my CX50 2.5 Turbo (Canada) December 2023.. The car is super fun to drive. I love the 360 cameras, button's, no finger prints on my screen (I know we can use touch with apple car play).. I love my car so much!! my only bad luck it's because I got car assembled at October 2023 and in Novemeber 2023 they added some improovements in steering wheel and shock absorber to make even much better..
I'm buying a non turbo CX-50 this weekend. Very nice compared to the competition. And for anyone hating on the infotainment system, I like the way it works in the Mazda cause it keep the dirty finger off of the screen.
Hi Scotty, The best review on here with the only detailed explanation of the engine. I am in England and stumped for the new CX-5 in October 2023. It's an Exclusive Line with DAP and automatic transmission. It's the e-Skyactiv G 2.0 Mild Hybrid. It gives good mileage and performance without a turbocharger. Previously, I had a Renault Kadjar GT-Line 2019 model and the turbocharger blew in the 23rd month of ownership. I never want a turbocharged vehicle again unless I am building it because I have a Suzuki GSX-R 1100K turbocharged and built by myself. It's very reliable with lighter wheels, a Dyna ignition and MTC lock-up clutch. I would have a CX-50 if they were offered here and am contemplating the new CX-60 in three years time. That's a long time away and a lot will change in that time. I will be happy to get another CX-5 though!
I’m retired now so I’m done buying new cars. I will just keep my Subaru for the rest of this life. It’s a 2015 with only 29,000 miles. I average less than 3000 miles per year these days.
Im inclined to go after whichever vehicle had the most production numbers. I want a large aftermarket or large parts market for long term sustainment. At least until my budget changes.
Gas mileage in the CX-50 really depends on how you drive and what conditions you drive in. I have owned a CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus since April, 2022 and drive almost exclusively on mountain roads (with 3 miles up a dirt/gravel road to my home). Since purchase I've averaged 29.3 mpg. Over the exact same conditions I drove a CX-5 naturally aspirated 2.5 L for 5 years and got 32.4 mpg.
How are you getting 32 mpg on a CX5? You must stay under 70 mph while on the highway. I average about 26mpg combined (not going off what the car says, I calculate it by how many miles I drive divided by how many gallons it takes to fill back up). The mpg calculated on the car is typically off by 2 mpg.
I don’t have an opinion about the Mazda CX50 I am going to start looking for a new car this year. I need to replace my old Scion xB 2006, but it’s still hard to let it go it run’s perfectly and it has a few dents and dings but it’s paid for gets 33 mpg highway and 22 mpg city. I wish they would have continued making the Scion XB 1st Gen on the echo chassis it’s so small outside and so large inside.
I'd love to hear more (when available) about the CX5. Am interested in a smaller SUV that has non-CVT transmission. Always find your content interesting, well-presented and concise. Keep it up
My wife has a 2017 CX5 and it has been awesome. Highly reliable. Just change oil and tires and use good quality gas. It’s been super dependable and it’s quiet and fun to drive. Whenever we do purchase a new vehicle again it will definitely be a Mazda!
Can’t stand when reviewers compare start prices with the competition and do not mention that the CX-5(0) are AWD standard. The base prices for Toyota, Nissan, and other makers, apart from Subaru, are always for a FWD. Therefore their base prices are always lower…. If you compare AWD prices, then the CX-5 is cheaper…
I just got the Mazda CX50 and I absolutely love it. Such a nice ride and it’s very good looking. Great for the weekends, polished for the weekdays. I’m very happy with it.
I’ve been driving my CX-5 for four years now and it’s a great ride. Before I bought my Mazda, I thought about getting a Toyota or Honda but thought they were meh. Glad I got my Mazda. Fun to drive and you get more bang for your buck compared to a Yoda or Honda. Mazda is truly shifting itself to be a premium vehicle that won’t have issues like BMW, Benz or Audi after two to three years unless you have a lemon, which can happen.
Bought a 2023 Preferred Plus last year. Favorite car I've owned. Fun, easy to drive, and the length and width make it a great winter vehicle along with the AWD. Looks great, and the panoramic moonroof is awesome in summer. If they had a better dealer network Mazda would be a top 3 auto company in America.
Scotty, have you heard of the cracked cylinder head issue with the Cx-5's? I believe it is related to cylinder deactivation on the non-turbo engine. I am considering the Cx-5 but am a little spooked by this issue.
Wow! Never heard of that. I’ve had two CX5s with no turbo…first was the inaugural model 2013 that was released in 2012. I traded it with 196K highway miles in 2015 (I travel 3 states for work)…never a problem with ANYTHING. I traded my 2015 CX9 for a 2021 CX5 AWD GT…love it! Only thing I’ve done is regular maintenance and I’ve got 82K miles on it. Great cars. Three Mazdas in a row after previously owning a Honda Accord..Honda Element (which I loved)..Toyota Corolla and a Tacoma. Loved ALL those cars but have the most enjoyable experience in Mazda.
Love Mazda. We have own 4 Mazda(3,6,cx-5) and currently cx-50. The main reason we switch from the cx-5 to the cx-50 is the cargo space. There is more room in the trunk. The cx-50 is more sporty looking, and personally, it's a smoother ride. When you pay a little more for performance, looks, confert, and reputation, it's worth it. Of course, Toyota cars are also one of the best.
The CX-50 definitely holds its own against the leaders in this segment such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. All these three options represent a great value for money. Mazda's SkyActiv tech is an icing on the cake which gives it an extra dimension compare to the competition. My only regret concerning Mazda is that they couldn't crack the code on their unique Rotary Engine and make it viable for the Automotive industry as a whole.
I wouldn’t hold that against Mazda. If anything they tried longer than they should have to make the rotary viable. But fuel efficiency and torque are too important to the current market, not to mention reliability. If anything Mazda stayed in the niche market of driver-focused buyers for too long and are only now catching up to a market that values reliability, efficiency and performance. From what I see they are succeeding
after driving a cx-5 for 3 years I will take any mazda model over the competition. No recalls, no mechanical issues, simple car, good performance, excellent part availability, excellent purchase options, good pricing (for now at least).
Mazda, one of the most technically in tune car manufacturers. They brought us the mazda rx7 rotories as well as the Miata which still pulls the heartstrings of sportscar lovers all over the world. Now, Mazda needs to revive the small advanced pickup truck to compete with Honda. Go Mazda!
Great video. The CX50 looks awesome but too bad a hybrid version isn’t available in the US (yet). I value gas mileage too much so that is why I likely will be getting a RAV4 Hybrid this year. I’m at 10 years, 168K miles with my Corolla and she can probably go longer but I’m ready for a fresh new upgrade
2:33 th CX5 turbo is also 256HP / 320 torque. It looks like you're comparing the CX50 turbo soecs with premium fuel to the CX5 specs with regular fuel.
Ended up with the Cx-5 this month and love my vehicle so far. I originally was attracted to the cx-50 for the rugged marketing but after examining the cx5, its features and qualities in comparison. I appreciated the choice between the two and quickly understood why 1 out 2 of every vehicle sold by Mazda is a Cx-5. One thing I love about the Cx-5 for 2024 is cylinder deactivation and I stop is removed and it’s a blessing.
I just sold my 2002 mazda protégé 5, manual transmission with over 200k miles on it. It was still going strong! Someone in need was looking for a cheap car so I obliged. I loved that yellow car. I had it since 0 miles back in December 2001. This is the car I want to replace it with.
Im 57 and Mazda was never on my Radar until I drow a Mazda 3 GT Sport AWD in 2019 It been the best and smoothest car I have ever driven. Definitley want another and the CX-%0 Meridian looks like my next vehicle
I own a CX-50. Quoted HP with the turbo requires premium gas; about 30 fewer HP with regular gas. Towing a lousy 1000lbs, I only got about 14-15 MPG on a long (1700 mile) highway trip. I’ve already had some problems; heads-up display failed and had to be replaced. Wife just reported the car dying at 75mph on interstate but restarted without further issues. 20 inch wheels come standard on top trim level; I wish it had smaller wheels for better ride quality. Electronics are a pain to use; manual tuning of the radio requires multiple steps. Screen is only a touch screen on CarPlay. After 15K miles, I wouldn’t buy it again.
You wish it had smaller wheels? Why did you buy the top trim level? I don't understand the desire for turbo charged engines when we know they don't last as long as a naturally aspirated engines. I plan to buy the 2.5 S Preferred. Had you done the same, you likely wouldn't be dissatisfied with your purchase, except for the infotainment system, which is a nonissue in my opinion. Also, you would have saved $10K.

Lexus / Toyota V6 will be made in collaboration with Mazda. The future CX-50 hybrid system will be the Toyota Rav4 synergy components! Both made in same factory in Alabama!!
I'll still take a Toyota.
my cx50 has had more problems in 5 months of owning than all of my toyotas in 10 years combined
Thanks for the unofficial tip. Waiting to compare the hybrid to the turbo.
Thanks, I finally decided to buy a Mazda and you mention a hybrid coming soon.😢
Currently car shopping and looking between Mazda cx50, Toyota Highlander, and Kia Sorento. I’m leaning more towards Mazda! 😃
What kind of employee discount do you get working there?
Saw something that the CX-50's projected lifespan is only like 80,000 miles (a Mazda dealer actually said this).
Do you think that's true? I know the CX-5s last a long time so why wouldn't this?
My husband and I had our minds made up on getting the Subaru Forester Wilderness but ended up changing our minds and went with the cx-50 because it doesn't have CVT.
CVTs are still too new for me to be comfortable buying one
Dodged a bullet not getting that Subaru
I'm in Australia. Looking for a used car myself, and here the Mazda holds a far better resale value than the Subaru, and I think there's multiple reasons for that.
CX-50 does look nice, but I'm not planning to get stuck so I'd rather Subaru
@@thndr_5468 Nonsense, CVTs have been around for decades. Just buy the correct one and they're perfectly fine reliability wise.
My wife and I both just purchased 2024 CX50’s. She purchased her’s first and I liked it so much I purchased the same Premium Plus. The only difference is the exterior color. Very happy with them and 0% for 60 months is hard to beat.
Love to hear this! 👍 I have this same model on order, right now. Only a few more days! 😃
Hmmm...I'm only seeing 0% for three years for several turbo models, and 2.9% as low as 1.9% for the non-turbo model. I'm considering the 2024 Turbo Premium. First considered the Meridian, but certain features are not available.

@@trentrizza4572 You can use the touchscreen directly (both idle and driving) with your fingers without having to use the control dial.
@trentrizza4572 it's a touch screen on android auto and apply carplay. Only dial for Mazdas home screens
This is the BEST video you've ever made (production quality wise and delivery) and is better than most when it comes from the approach of a mechanic. Thank you for this!
I wholeheartedly agree. this is excellent and most informative. Thanks Scotty
He has a few of these going back years. It's just rare he posts them
honestly, just wanted to echo this. whoever did the production of this video is amazing! this format is very educational and engaging, please do more videos like this. i feel like i actually learned something about car mechanics and terminology beyond the usual specifications.
Great to see so many positive comments about Mazda!! My wife drove a CX5 for eight years with zero problems.
@@edrodriguez5105 You must have harsh conditions where you live. I've never heard of any of those issues with either generation of the CX-5.
Why you buying SUV my car wtf is wrong with all you sheep?
Damn scotty got a nice check for this. I own a 2008 mazda CX-9. Have owned it since 2009. Amazing vehicle always comes through.
As a rav4 owner I can tell you I have loved all of my Mazdas🙂 extremely good cars.
I had a few they are okay
What about transmission issues. Saw some people had those, but said it was fixed with software update. Have you experienced such?
I just bought a 2024 CX50 base model 28,765 total price. I love it so much.
Mazda has really made a name for themselves. My family has been buying mazda since the tribute in 2002
I purchased my MAZDA after lousy FORD sold their MAZDA company shares holding after 2009.
What a big improvement to quality afterward.

I shopped for rav4. Test drove cx 5. I ended up buying the cx 5 I love it
Better get a spare transmission before it goes out.
What cx5 trim did you get?

I was going back and forth between the RAV4 and cx-50. after a ton of thought and test driving, I bought a 2025 cx-50 preferred and it's the best car I've ever owned.
Curious. What was your OTD price for the vehicle?
I have sane confusion, RAV4 seems better for some reasons and lacks in few. Same witg Mazda. How did you end to CX50 except availability?

Reading this while reading how their skyactive technology increases fuel efficiency.

I would easily get a CX50 but Im not sure about hybrids....more things that could go wrong...but I do like the idea of better mileage without committing to a full EV.
It is toyota hybrid engine + transmission so I wouldn't worry. If I could afford it, I would have probably get the cx50 hybrid

I would hope no issues at 52k miles lol 😂
Hated my 22 rav4, was super loud on the interstate, traded for the 22 cx5, which was wayyyy quieter

We owned a 2009. It was a wonderful car
@chriskelly509 We switched from Toyota to Honda to Mazda, and have never been happier.
Cx-5 will get the same 256 with premium fuel. Same as the CX-50 will get 227 with regular

That one with the Toyota engine with hybrid set up and mazda automatic transmission sounds amazing
The 0% has my interest also. I also believe 24/30 is on the low side. But not bad at all considering vehicles of this size.
I'd like to hear more about that Sky Active Drive transmission - I hope Scotty covers it in more detail in another video.

Rental companies are figuring that out. They only keep their cars for 2 or 3 years tops before selling them off.
Have you ever rented a car?
Good points
The key in your pocket ought to keep the car running when you open door. Crazy that it doesn't

Most people use the words “cheap” and “inexpensive” interchangeably, but these words have different meanings.
Hi Scotty,
The best review on here with the only detailed explanation of the engine.
My sister bought leftover 2023 CX5 and she loves it
Im inclined to go after whichever vehicle had the most production numbers.
Yes both my 2015 and 2016 cx-5. Get 26 and 27 mpg when driven lightly 25 if my daughter drives them@musicfame
We’re a Mazda family but we’re gonna wait for the hybrid before we buy a new one.
I wish they would have continued making the Scion XB 1st Gen on the echo chassis it’s so small outside and so large inside.
do not buy the kia soul.... you wont go back
I pick up my new, black CX50 Turbo Premium on Wednesday!
Good stuff " Scotty " 👍 Thank you for the breakdown.
Mazda's are Awesome! I Love my 5.
I have 21 Cx-5 carbon turbo Awd. And it's a beast in the snow I've only put 30k miles on it. I also use blizzaks ws90 really great vehicle
Completely agree. Mazda is a sleeper that gives great value, reliability and performance. My only regret is not having a manual transmission.
yoda😂😂
@@zhaoliu1031It's a toy!
Hope u see how much of a blessing you are to people Scotty…
My 19 cx5 has no cyl deactivation that I know of. At 50k miles all is good so far at 34 mpg hwy.
I owned rav4 and cx50 meridian edition
Cx50 far away compared to rav4 .
Cx50 always wins ..
I have two 2010 Rav4s, both with over 200k miles. They both run like new.
I would take any Mazda over Subaru anytime anywhere any day
I’m still on the fence about it being built in America. As opposed to the CX-5 which is still built in Japan. I’ll probably go with the CX-5.
I agree, but the factory in Alabama is brand new and shared by Toyota.
Mazda, one of the most technically in tune car manufacturers. They brought us the mazda rx7 rotories as well as the Miata which still pulls the heartstrings of sportscar lovers all over the world. Now, Mazda needs to revive the small advanced pickup truck to compete with Honda. Go Mazda!
Wish they had kept offering mini b2300. My 93 was tough as nail …. Was forced into a midsize Toy
The 2.5T engines in both the 5 and the 50 produce identical HP/torque. 227hp/310 ft lbs on 87 octane and 256/320 on 93 octane.
Mazda CX5, Toyota Rav4...both excellent!
We need a CX-5 hybrid so that I may trade in my 2019 CX-5 Turbo. You da man Scotty!
Was always a Mazda fan
Thank you Scotty
Great video. The CX50 looks awesome but too bad a hybrid version isn’t available in the US (yet). I value gas mileage too much so that is why I likely will be getting a RAV4 Hybrid this year. I’m at 10 years, 168K miles with my Corolla and she can probably go longer but I’m ready for a fresh new upgrade
I learned so much from this. Thank you Scotty.
2:33 th CX5 turbo is also 256HP / 320 torque. It looks like you're comparing the CX50 turbo soecs with premium fuel to the CX5 specs with regular fuel.
Mazda are for people who like to drive. Toyotas might last longer, but Mazda will last in your mind longer.
I'm currently leaning towards a Hybrid version of the CX-5 with a 6 speed Automatic transmission than a CX-50 Hybrid 😊.
Include me on the list for a CX-5 Hybrid!
@@peterjordan2738 Agreed 👍
I just sold my 2002 mazda protégé 5, manual transmission with over 200k miles on it. It was still going strong! Someone in need was looking for a cheap car so I obliged.
I loved that yellow car. I had it since 0 miles back in December 2001. This is the car I want to replace it with.
Does the 2024 model finally get rid of cylider deactivation in the non-turbo engine?
Im 57 and Mazda was never on my Radar until I drow a Mazda 3 GT Sport AWD in 2019 It been the best and smoothest car I have ever driven. Definitley want another and the CX-%0 Meridian looks like my next vehicle
Your the man… I have owned 3 Mazdas and have always loved their quality… thanks ❤
Thanks for this great video Scotty 👍👌. No electric cars for me 😄
