As a woodworker I was screaming for the first 7.5 minutes! Glad to see that you figured out the issue of leaving stain to "dry". Looks great! Can't wait to see the table in future content knowing the background of it!
I appreciate you sharing your mistakes so we can all learn from them. Far often than not, there seems to be perfectionism with TH-camrs. Much obliged for your hard work.
Staining is something that takes time and finesse. Luckily I had my dad to teach me, but if you mess up you can always sand it down and ad a new layer.
Way to stay focused and determined, as the perseverance paid off🏁. I loved the audio clip from "Metal Gear"⁉️ while yelling nooooo! 😄 Kudos🎉🎊 to you on an incredible, aesthetically pleasing upgrade! 👍💯😎
The designs are all fantastic but my fav goes to the Koi Pond design. This video also reminded me how I should have rented an orbital sander when I sanded my desk -_-
I got lucky and was able to knock it out of the park my first go around. My 75 X 25 butcher block desk turned out amazing! If budget is not an issue, I also would recommend buying a better quality butcher block vs IKEA. The wood grain pops so beautifully after the staining process.
@@MikeWat Yeah, the depth is actually great. I got more mileage for desk space from using monitor mounts but of course you already know that! I just need to get one more monitor arm for my main monitor, 34" ultrawide and it should complete my setup. I can send the pic once completed!
Great job with the project, came out real nice. I did one recently using a butcher block top which was easy to work with ( no protective coating) and a gel stain which goes on like paint but dries like a stain. Now I feel like doing another just from watching this haha.
@@MikeWat Saw this in my Subscriptions section, and I was like "oh that looks a lot like what I did 4 years ago 👀"! Had to watch 😅 Your dedication is impressive! I think I would’ve canceled mid-way, but clearly it was worth it! Great vid man! 👏
@@minimalistik I was inspired by your video to do the same for my setup with an Ikea Hammarp countertop 2 years ago and I went through some stressful moments just like Mike did. Love all the positivity and information being shared in the community. Thank you both for the videos 👏
Man I saw that video you mentioned and they made staining look so easy lol came out looking niceeee tho. This gives me confidence to give it a go and make a custom top…but we shall see. Loved the video bro and the message 😎
I would love to win that ergo stool, and if I were to choose a design for the desk it would definitely be the "The birth of a concept" design because it reminds me of apple's sleek wallpapers
Yo man! I used that as my main desk for the first 2 years, and it's defs a good budget adjustable desk! No regrets...but I think you'll end up getting an electric one later on as manual cranking it will get tiring soon and it will most likely not be used as a standing desk much xD Also, the desk depth is a lot shorter than regular...24" vs 29"
for TH-camr, yes...but for us.....financialy doesnt make sense...with that much time spend on this project, I could just spend 200 bucks get a desktop.......

🤗🤗🤗 proud of you!! 🔥🔥🔥 Turned out perfect!
👍👍👍
Definitely digging the late night views design! Always loved looking at the starry night sky. Now you can have it on your desk! Amazing ☺️
Dude appreciate the honest and fun video. Most importantly I learn from you a whole lot.
Just me in 2024 grateful to find this video. Thank you sir ❤
The final result looks really good! Great perseverance also :-)
It really isn't as easy as it looks! I tried trying to match the stain to existing furniture and it's not a fun process.
hahah oh man...you gotta stain them all now to get a consistent color xD send me some pics i wana see!!

Hahaha you're the first to notice that sound!! :) Good to know you're a metal gear fan too my dude! :)
This is helpful! I am about to do something similar pretty soon. Thanks, Mike!

@@GstaRaw5 sounds great man, can't wait to see it!!
The original coat looks good enough to me.
Funny that this came up because last weekend I practically ruined a bookshelf that i'm making by staining it with lots of similar mistakes lol

Great Vid, Mike! How do you like the husky manual height adjustment? Do you recommend it for a lower cost desk setup?

Where is Sony Wf 1000xm4 review ? Will you consider review it ?
it gets released July 2nd here :) i'll most likely review it cuz I've been waiting for it for 2 years!! xD
Anyone knows if i should add a finish to the wood as soon as possible or can it wait. Currently struggling to find the right finish.
What laptop is it?
great Vid Mike gave a like for your hard work man i can only image. Looks great
correct! 100%
yeee ❤
are going to review the new Lypertek Z7?
Probs not...maybe the new sonys though ❤
@@MikeWat :(( i shall wait for the sony review
Good job
👍👍👍
❤❤❤
❤ you're FIRST!
I think your issue was going from 120 directly to 220 you should do 80 120 150 180 220
maybe its the conditoner
I thought of that too...gotta test it out in my next staining project :)
tl;dr is sand more than you think you need to and otherwise simply follow directions
i needs me them legs. what do i do to get those bad bois
the desk legs? they're by husky from home depot!
@@MikeWat Thanks! I actually have had my own DIY desk, but not fond of what I'm using for legs, so ive been looking for a replacement
RIP Apple Watch
It was actually fine when I washed everything off xD
