      Takes a little while but, you'll get the hang of it. Get a small map with less planets l, and learn to pause the game ofren, so you can set up your plan and make units or buildings without wasting time traveling the map and contemplating things.

  • @LordRunty
    @LordRunty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    I usually fortify the ground on the isolated planets. Many worlds, can be held pretty easily with modest forces in most mods with the unit cap being so low at most starting landing zones; especially those with strong friendly populations. It means you can often just rush the landing zone, build defenses and get the free credits from mining structures. Some worlds are effectively impenetrable in some mods when Turbolasers are installed as well, Kamino and Mon Cala (original map) come to mind as easily fortified worlds that become Cadia with Turbolasers. I don't know how well this would work in Thrawns Revenge, since I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet. But works great in vanilla and in both of the old republic mods I've tried.

    • @knighthammer7495
      @knighthammer7495 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Air units are good on some maps. Just defend the landing zone with heavy firepower (I.E. AT-AT or T4B) until bombing run/orbital bombardment is ready, scout with air units, blow up a few structures, then retreat and invade again facing fewer units spawned from structures. You can also use heros to tank enemy firepower as their health auto-regenerate, though it's somewhat risky. Late game land combat could be terrible though, especially on smaller maps where you units get overwhelmed as soon as you land.

    • @IXIammerlock

      the ai in TR is hyper aggressive so always expect the landing zone to get rushed, and prepare accordingly

    Honestly i like holding the 'Hold out' planets because the AI tends to get distracted on them from my experience, its been years since ive last played, so the Thrawns revenge crew could have made that not a thing anymore.

  • @slicedice2633
    @slicedice2633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Eck forgot 2 MAJOR things. One is the fact that other warlords planets(light green color) and the Hapes(purple/pink color) never attack meaning you can use them to secure borders. Second is that the AI attacks with a fleet that is relative in size to what you have in space at the moment. So if you have a massive fleet of 400-500 the ai will attack with a massive fleet too. However if you have something like a few ships over that planet the AI attack fleet will me much smaller. You can use this to your advantage by abusing the warning system ingame that calls out incoming fleets. You do not get a warning if you have no ships in orbit. Now what you do is you leave any ship in orbit and you keep your main defense force somewhere nearby. If done correctly you can keep while sections of the map safe with relatively few ships. Also evading those massive fleets will let you save ships.

    • @josh-kg1rb

      Oh I forgot that so this is how you don't have the executor and 500 pop arriving over your planet

      leave a single Starfighter in orbit , a single Starfighter can also use them like probe droids to scout enemy fleets

  • @frankdowns12
    @frankdowns12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Hey eck, just an fyi. At the 10 min mark when you start talking about moving your perimeter up by taking Kaal, belsavis and Mustafar simultaneously, you actually only have to take Belsavis! The independent forces (those light green planets) are purely defensive worlds, and do not attack anyone. So actually they serve to create a natural choke point at Bespin because the Empire would have to fight the independent fleets to move in on you, whittling eachother down significantly. Just like in the EU. I've always found it better to put the fleets and troops into taking Belsavis, Eiattu 6 and Vondarc. You still take 3 systems and only have to use those 3 fleets for defense, but you take 3 systems from the EA, instead of wasting forces fighting planets that don't pose any threat, and can actually be used as buffer states.

  • @looney5256
    @looney5256 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for this Eckharts. When I play this game everytime i see a point that could potentially attacked, I always leave a fleet there and then if I want to push into enemy territory i send that fleet in. This will help me be able to.be more effective with less units.

    Also check out the damage list of the weapons. There are so many of them, so consentrate on the highest damage output. For example proton torpedos are the highest at the missile. When you look to the turbolasers, you should know, that there is a increase at damage from light to heavy or from douple to octuple... but also at the same a decrease at speed. Misiles attack slowly, but with a high instant damage.
    An other point is to understand how ships attack: The shild go down faster than the armored hull,because all fire power is fixed on one hit point. At the hull on the other side there is usually dozen of hit points, depending on the ship type. So there you can use the advantage of many star ships in a fleet: Put one ship after one, during stopping time, and choose a significant aim like hangar, and critical turbolasers (quad or octuple t. ). By doing nothing it can probabbly happen, that many strong ships attack one target at the same time what is not effectiv.
    Your bombers are better in destroying shilds than in destroying the hull because of their torpedos. A slow but critical attack. Of course you can use them also on the hull, but splitt them on diffrent targets.
    I hope you can understand my English. Greeting from Germany and have fun with using different tactics.

    Dang I enjoy this game thanks to you guys. I bought it multiple times during my life and always end up with your mod.
    By the way, one suggestion: Consolidating is good but I wouldn't attack Mustafar early game. The independent planets have big build up fleets, and while you potentially weaken your fleet to take that planet your overall mission to weaken the real enemy (empire, eriadu) is not progressing. By attacking eriadu first, you weaken them and whatever you sacrifice is worth more while slowly moving towards sullust. Additionally Mustafar doesn't attack you, it even buffers eriadu from you. If eriadu attacks and takes Mustafar though, go there immediately and f@#$ up the leftovers. That way you kill whatever is left and get a cheap planet.

    Choke points, and if playing a mod with shield penetration (projectile weapons ignore shields likei n the base game) enabled find a bomber to spam in vast numbers, or better yet something like the skipray blastboat which has torps and missiles in many mods, this will allow you to quickly chew thru your enemies and as you expand only 1 unit is needed to hold space above a hostile planet, this can allow you to expand rapidly and massively.
    Depending on the mod and how it handles research you nay need to also upgrade your chosen spam vessel to maxamize this effect.
    A perfect example is phoenix rising, at higjer upgrade levels the skipray blastboat and Kwing both have torpedoes, missiles, and a few turreted lasers, this makes them massively powerful because enemy shields have little effect against your main weapons.

    I love ground battles. They are 1/3 of the game? Galaxy map, space battle, ground battle. They are especially epic with Fall of the Republic mod. Tweak some numbers in the files, make B1s not cost any population points(it’s not like the AI recruits them much anyways), and you’ve got yourself a whole lot different ground battles. It’s very satisfying to have a fully upgraded defensive structure planet, shield and planetary shield with turbo lasers. Then set up picket lines with your infantry squads near towers and landing zones. I try to always keep at least on air transport on my choke point planets. So to be able to deploy troopers on the capture buildings for free units or credits, and of course to pop down on the landing zones and deny the enemy a foothold. Ground battles are only boring if you have little appreciation for ground tactics.

I figured out most of these strategies after around 6 hours with the game (have only started playing this game for 3 months now). The only new thing I get from the video is abandoning planets and selling buildings there, but that's just because I don't usually abandon any planet, and if someone lose their space battle and expect to lose their planets as well, it's only common sense to sell those buildings.
    Can't say for other mods out there, but there is one powerful strategy for early game you can use to steamroll AI in Thrawn's Revenge. At the start of any Galactic Conquest, group your ships into 2-3 sizable fleet, one for each enemy faction abjection to your territory. Each should have at least one small and cheap corvette put in the scout spot (thereby making it the first ship entering battle). Then, find some hole in the enemies territories and immediately attack them. Do not be afraid. At the start usually there haven't been strong defense platforms like Golan III or Visvia in the orbits of planets yet. The only thing they have is usually just the space stations, which your fleet with 2-3 capital ships (usually your heroes) can easily decimate. Then, after winning, DO NOT wait there to invade the planet, but simply move on to attack another one. The purpose is not to take control of the planets, but to destroy all the space stations the enemy can use to build ship. If you run into a sizable fleet of the enemy that you can't expect to win without losing a valuable capital ships, then simply turn around and retreat, find another planet to attack, then circle around to attack that planet later when the enemy fleet has moved away (and they do move!). At worst, like if you get caught between Raid Fleet and the enemy and can't retreat, the worst you'd lose is a small corvette. With this active strategy, you can decimate nearly the entire space station system in the enemies' territories without even losing one ship, forcing them to spend time and money to rebuild the stations. Then, you can repeat this strategy again, and cheese the AI dry of money while preventing them the ability to build new ships.

    Normally I never sell any structure on isolated planets. I prefer fortifying them to meat grinders for any invasion force fool enough to land. EAW's ground units are generally extremely cheap and easy to replace. With smart ground tactics you basically won't lose a single battle.

      I would try the base game first. Most mods are more difficult, and the mechanics they add can be less intuitive if you haven't already played the base game. I would do one or two before moving on to mods. Think of it as extending the tutorial. Though if you want to dive in or play different eras, you'd be able to catch up to speed pretty fast. So ultimately it's your choice.

      if you have autosave enabled find out how to disable it. Softens load time a fuckton. I don’t remember specifics but it should be in your file folder, and clearing the auto save/disabling the folder is key. just remember to save a lot after. The devs updated the auto save to stop crashes but ended up making load times worse because it loads more to compensate for the said crashes, ie the auto save likes to fill up most of the space
