  • @misterballistics
    @misterballistics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +74

    This is a real military concept refered to as 'defeat in detail'. Basically, you're outnumbered 2 to 1, but since the enemy spreads out and isolates their assets you are able to fight the entire battle 3 to 1 in your favor. So really, while this may seem kind of like just gaming the AI, it is a real world tactic that has won more firefights than we'll probably ever know.

    • @KomradeDoge
      @KomradeDoge ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You could really view it as less "gaming the AI", and more exploiting thier tendency to chase the biggest threat, which with a scout happens to be that scout. If this were against a person not a computer, there's a good chance that if you're able to sneak in units, it'll work against them too.

    This strategy was actually used by Napoleon. He'd send a decoy force to attack an area, which would divert the enemy main force, then he'd take the place he initially wanted to take, pulling back his decoy forces if he could. This is how he won in Italy, despite being outnumbered by ton having to face both Austrians and native Italians. He most notably used this tactic while invading Piedmont, where he won in a battle of 37,600 French vs 60,000 Italian and Austrians.

My Bombers easily take out enemy deflector shield generators with Proton Torpedoes then move in my Cruisers to take em out. I pretty much do the same thing. In fall of the republic, the CIS Navy outnumbers and outguns ours, so I lure a few ships away from the main force to defeat them in detail, then I retreat when they show up in force. Sometimes we lure them away from an important facility like a dreadnaught factory, and we send in a rapid strike group to destroy the station. After destroying what we went in there to destroy, we retreat, then we immediately jump back to the system and repeat the process. The techno union had 400+ population at Foerost while I had 200 something, so I had to defeat them in detail like this. It took a few times, but I broke the blockade. I didn't send in ground forces yet, though. The planet is crawling with droids, so I just put an arquitens in orbit and moved on. War is fun

    Personally I've always just used fleet capitals (In Thrawn's Revenge either MC90's or Imperial II's) as the simplest amount of fleet diversity you need is strong capitals with a lot of fighters/bombers in support. If I have any escorts, it's stuff that carries more fighters. Success in battle is ensuring you can bring all your guns to bear (given the AI is bad at managing it's ships you can have a massive fire-power advantage early on if you maneuver correctly). If you prioritise the correct targets you can destroy entire fleets losing few, or even no ships of your own.
    Strategically I prefer to quickly build up a small empire, then hold a few hyperlane choke-points whilst I build up my economy and numbers. The ultimate super weapon in war is money.

    Personally i prefer to use corvette to scout and pull all fighters and the faster cruisers into the furthest corner then as the first fighter swarms r almost in range I'll send my scout to whichever corner will keep it out of range of weapons and the main fleet. This tends to cause the fighters, light cruiser(and below) to be in opposing corners with the capital ships scattered in the center. This allows me to deploy corvettes and carriers to take out fighters and then my cruisers and capitals to take out their lights then move systematically from both side to hit enemy capitals. All the while my bombers bypassing everything to take out capital ship shields and engines while being covered by my fighters. This way only ships at risk r 1 or 2 corvette scouts and each of the ship types face there preferred target types...keep up the amazing work guys! love the channel and the mod!

    I remember once I was playing EAW, unmodded, and my capital ships were losing, so I got all ships to focus fire on the anti fighter corvettes, and they were left with just the capital ships, and I had one squad of x-wings, I used hit and run tactics to whittle them down and I eventually won with 2 x-wings left, but if I'd used auto resolve, I'd have lost, but the ship strengths are really well done in EAW.

    You're gonna destroy the assault frigate!
    Eck: a small price for salvation

  • @ZKP314
    @ZKP314 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When the alliance assaulted Thyferra, it was clear to everyone that the ground was heavily fortified and the space around the planet was heavily defended, with the Lusankya being the focal point of the defense. Knowing that they were going to attack the planet to resolve the Bacta War, she made it very clear what was to be expected, and had assigned several key sectors over areas corresponding extremely valuable Bacta Producing facilities, most of which were covered by the Lusankya's turbolasers, along with smaller ship's firepower.
    Sector Fox, however, was noted as only having 4 Imperial 1's, 4 Victories, a lot of support ships and a space station designed for long range scanning. Despite using older models, they were still considered a formidable force, as even a Victory could devastate a fleet of ships if used correctly, and if they got desperate, then the damage inflicted on unsuspecting enemies would be catastrophic.
    A plan devised by several New Republic tacticians was thrown out for a Probing attack-The Corellian Gunship Easy Odds covertly gave intel, before a task force was sent towards a lightly defended sector away from the Lusankya, but before the assault got underway, the Alliance Assault Frigate Krantian Ghosts proceeded to calculate a jump behind the defenders, and ultimately draw their attention away from the front as long as it could, splitting the firepower between one small and fast ship, and the heavier fleet composition.
    In theory, the split would absolutely devastate the Star Destroyers, opening a hole in the orbital defenses to allow for ground based airstrikes against imperial defenses on the planet.
    In reality, the plan had a few holes that were the result of unknown information or personal error-Isard had suspected that probing attacks would come, and had told the outlying Star Destroyers to focus fire on any non-imperial vessel seen, and Easy Odds was vaporized within 3 minutes of the battle's start. Krantian Ghosts had it worse-a recently retrofitted hyperdrive did allow them to get past the fleet...but only enough to just barely get past their engine exhausts. The defending fleet decided to take advantage by shooting out its engines, and letting their fighters take it out, forcing the frigate to a slow death in the middle of Imperial Space, but its sacrifice wasn't in vain-the smaller task force managed to jump with broadsides hitting the back of one of the Victories, and had sent starfighters to assault several other ships, including an Imperial Star Destroyer, as their fighter cover was too far away to help defend the ships.
    In the aftermath of the battle, despite only losing the Gunship and the Assault Frigate, the New Republic considered the strategy too unreliable to utilize on a larger scale, as Hyperspace calculating wasn't precise to the degree of a few meters. The masterminds of the plan were ultimately relegated to administrative positions, and stripped of rank...until the Thrawn Campaign ultimately gave this type of attack a reliable way to use on a regular basis-interdictor fields. The Sector Fox incident is the go to example on why using Interdictor Fields in a Thrawn Pincer maneuver is mandatory.

    I’ve used this pincer move effectively too when I used to play. Generally, though, with the Rebel faction I leverage the use of fighters. I scout out an x-wing flight and when the fog of war lifts, I’ll put in a snub fighter screen and then pitch in bombers to take out all capital ship shields and docking bays. Then I’ll set up my pincer. It always works! I annihilate Imp fleets like eating peanuts!

  • @Kronos327
    @Kronos327 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I always do one of these two strategies depending on the mod and faction I currently play:
    1. Send in ships with fairly good shields and the shield boost ability on the front and your capital ships right behind
    2. Send in capital ships first and a few (not many) support ships closely behind them
    Never spawn them in randomly/all at once and don’t spawn them in enemies weapons range... it‘ll drain your shields a LOT faster and might even get your ship destroyed before it can even fire a single shot
    Furthermore you should use your ships abilities as frequently as possible and pause in battles to better re-asses the situation and react whilst the AI cannot because you paused the battle

    Also, if you have such firepower that you destroy subsystem in less than one volley, since there is a delay of retargeting (Ships retargets AFTER the target is destroyed) you can minimize the excesive shots by manualy switching the targeted subsystem so that all of those shots become effective. If you master it, you can destroy big targets in just under 10 seconds instead of 30s-1 minute.

    What I like to do is split my fleet into 2 separate feet’s. 1 is to engage the enemy head on (typically I like to include 2 capital ships in this along with several of my cruisers as support) then the 2nd is sent in a separate location to flank from behind (this fleet consists of the majority of my forces along with the rest of my capital ships, gunships, cruisers, etc to broadside all artillery)

      So kind of like the Bull Horns strategy Shaka Zulu utilized when he was kicking it in South Africa? Effectively the ‘Chest’ of the bull pinned an enemy, the ‘Horns’ of the bull out flanked them, and then there were the ‘Loins’ as a reserve force
      Or alternatively one of the many quotes from Sun Tzu, an actual one, about having a special division of the army for the purpose of flanking when it can be afforded

  • @sergeantassassin3425
    @sergeantassassin3425 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The tactic I prefer to use is similar in nature, but more of a 'SURPRISE!!' type move than anything.
    Drop in a single Interdictor at the far end of the map, put a few anti-starfighter/bomber support craft around it to give it additional protection. This forces them to remain put while I continue my strategy. Then I send a single small, fast ship to get within deployment range of the enemy...and drop everything out of hyperspace right on top of them. The AI goes from, "Oh, nothing too terrible." to "HOLY FUCK, RED ALERT!!" in an instant, and causes complete chaos/confusion as a result.
    One note, though: this has mixed results against stronger, united fronts, but even still, you'll take FAR less damage/casualties dropping everything out of hyperspace on top of the enemy than if you try and simply fly them over from the opposite side of the map. Keep your fleet composition in mind when you're attacking, and try and create a fleet that is an ideal counter to theirs if you can. Easy way to do this is use a probe droid if you're the Empire. Spend a few credits on an expendable unit to get full info on the space forces of the planet you're looking to conquer, definitely worth it. Once you have this info, craft a fleet that has advantages against most of their ships, and slam them with it.

    One thing i've been doing in FotR is making a crap ton of corvettes, and using them as a shield for capital slugging matches. You lose a lot of corvettes, but they are easy and cheap enough to replace, they provide a good anti-bomber buffer, and their point defenses shut down a substantial amount of damage potential that the AI has. I've managed to win multiple battles against larger fleets losing maybe 1 venator and 20 corvettes for multiple enemy capital vessels.
