"If you believe in forever, then life is just a one night stand" is on Bobby's grave marker. Bill still sings this in his show and ends it with "Bobby's got a helluva band"
It’s hard to believe this duet has been entertaining us for 60 years. This song was from 1974 and so many more we have lost. A great tribute to those who have passed including Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers. Thanks for another banger! ❤
@@Hespeakstruth This song was 50 years ago but the Righteous Brothers first song was in 1964. It was “ You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”. Sorry I didn’t explain myself well. 🙂
That song was released in '74. Wished you would've watched the video to see the change in their appearance & some of the faces of the artists they mentioned. Beautiful song. Always touches my heart ❤️
The song was released in 1974. The artists mentioned are Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Jim Morrison, Jim Croce & Bobby Darin. The lyrics were updated in the 1990's Righteous Brothers performances to include mentions of artists who had passed after 1974 - John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Karen Carpenter, Dennis Wilson (of the Beach Boys), Jackie Wilson & Marvin Gaye. Since then, one of the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield, has gone to "Rock & Roll Heaven". As tribute to Hatfield, Bill Medley (the other Righteous Brother) when performing this song, has changed the lyrics to "If there's a rock & roll heaven, then Bobby's got a hell of a band."
Since this song came out that band is so much bigger. Now they’ve got Michael, Prince, Whitney, Aretha, Elvis, John Lennon, Tina, Karen Carpenter, and so many great artists.
Few people know that this song is actually a cover. "Rock and Roll Heaven" is a song written by Alan O'Day and Johnny Stevenson, popularized by The Righteous Brothers. It is a paean to several deceased singers such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, and has been rewritten a number of times to include other singers. The song was first recorded by the band Climax in 1973, but it failed to chart. It was then covered by The Righteous Brothers in 1974 and reached number three on the U.S.
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brother the best duo ever. Their voices were opposites, Bill's baritone bass and Bobby's countertenor the perfect vocal blend together. Pure magic, solid gold, unmatched by anyone. Bobby made it into the Rock and Roll Heaven band in 2003. RIP sweet Bobby. Love the Righteous Brothers 😍 Thanks Jay & Amber.
"Soul And Inspiration" is the best Righteous Brothers song left. It is notable because they had left their producer Phil Spector, and Bill Medley took the producer chair and put out a record with every bit as fantastic a sound as any Spector production. The Righteous Brothers get categorized as "blue-eyed soul." With that in mind let me bring up some other acts to check out: The Rascals (a/k/a The Young Rascals) put out several hits in the late 60s. "People Got To Be Free" was a number one. "It's A Beautiful Morning" followed up "Groovin" with beautiful vocals. Also listen to "Lonely Too Long" and "What Is The Reason." The Box Tops had that Memphis sound with "Soul Deep" and "Cry Like A Baby." Their singer was Alex Chilton, a legendary character. Mitch Ryder And The Detroit Wheels had high energy rock and soul with "Jenny Take A Ride" "Sock It To Me" and "Devil With A Blue Dress On." Heavy Little Richard influence with these Detroiters.
This was from the first 1/2 of the 70's. Another song from that time that was a big hit : "Life is a rock (but the radio rolled me) - Reunion". Hope you can get to it at some point.
Oh man....I almost forgot about "Life Is A Rock"! I was such a music geek back then, I knew ALL the words. 😆 I bet I couldn't name half of those groups and names now.
1974, the year of my birth, so long ago, and still so powerful...a love song to rock. It was a VERY timely song, as it came on the heels of the deaths of Jim Croce and Bobby Darin who both died late in 73. If they would have held off a bit longer, they could have included Mama Cass who died the summer of '74...all of this pre-dated the deaths of Elvis (77), Ronnie Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd, 77), Keith Moon (The Who, 78), and the 1980 deaths of Bon Scott (AC/DC), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and John Lennon.
Bill sings this now adding Bobby's name at the end. 😢😢 the official video shows the artists they are singing about. If you believe in forever, than life is a one night stand, is on Bobby's headstone.
This song peaked at number 3 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. They did an undated version on American Bandstand in 1981 which included Elvis and John Lennon. It's a you tube video.
Actually was their comeback song in 74. The Righteous Brothers never disappoint! Bill Medley 84 is still performing tho with Bucky Heard. Bobby sadly passed in 2003. Bill did a fabulous solo in 68 with the Blossoms (Darlene Love) at the Playboy Club(family friendly) called BROWN EYED WOMAN. It's terrific, worth checking out.
I like that there is attention paid to the lyrics on this channel. I was listening to an old Dionne Warwick song recently and a lyric in the song was: "Only a fool loses tomorrow reaching back for yesterday."
Jay's reference to Jimi playing with SRV is mentioned in the song Six Strings Down by Jimmy Vaughn, SRV's brother. The lyric is... "See the voodoo chile. Holding out his hand. I've been waitin' on you brother! Welcome to the band !
There is a video that shows those they are singing about, and also there was a Las Vegas show with impersonators portraying them. There was an updated version including those that we have lost after 1974, but it was really bad. From the start and they mention "Janis took a piece of our heart", I choke up.
This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. Other great songs by them are "Soul & Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life", "Ebb Tide" etc. This song Rock & Roll Heaven includes the names of a lot of deceased singers such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Jim Croce & Bobby Darin. This song has been rewritten a number of times to include other singers as they passed away. They later added Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Keith Moon, Roy Orbison, Jackie Wilson, Ricky Nelson, Dennis Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Cass Elliot, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc.
I like how they include everybody with "there's a spotlight waiting whoever you are. 'Cause everybody has a song to sing. Everyone's a star". You should check out the video of how they were dressed for the seventies, BIG difference from appearances in 50s & 60s.
This was their comeback and final hit before Bobby left us. Amber! It was fun watching the lights go on in your head as names and references went by. Great tribute song and message.
Agreed. Sometimes I really wish that I had access to some lost tracks of Janis Joplin to give to Miss Amber. As much as she loves Janis, she deserves them.
Just a shout out to a favorite singer of mine. I dont see any confusion. If you knew my age you would either think "Wow...he was there....or..."Wow...he is old and has a failing memory! I will add that i spent a fair amount of my life to performing the Righteous bros. music. I guess my point was that Rock and Roll Heaven Band keeps adding new members.@@Aurora-tp3dy
The song you're thinking of is Nightshift by the Commodores. I love their song (You're My) Soul and Inspiration. Also Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes did The Time of My Life from the movie Dirty Dancing.
I was 17 when this song debuted and man, was it on the radio a lot! WLS in Chicago played the heck out of it. Love the Righteous Brothers, and this is my favorite song by them. Fun times!
Amber, I’m thinking the song this one reminded you of was Night Shift by The Commodores (their biggest hit post-Lionel Richie). It’s also a great tribute song that mentions Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. Love you guys ☮️❤️
I hope to see you dive deeper into Brenda Lee's rabbit hole, she who sold the most charted hits throughout the 60's of any female vocalist, and 4th overall behind only Elvis, the Beatles and Ray Charles. Brenda Lee is still alive and active! She became famous in the south from live radio appearances in the mid 50's when she was about 9 or 10 years old and became nationally famous at 13. She sang different genres and was one of the pioneers (literally one of the first) to do rockabilly. When you do get back to her, may I suggest her "Dynamite - 1957". It's very short, but I promise you it will knock your socks off.
My baby brother was 14 when this was popular and when he found out that they were going to be performing at the Great America in St. Louis he begged me to drive down from Chicago and being big brother I said, "why not kid!" I enjoyed it because I was 14 when I first heard them in 64. Had a terrific time and it was a moment we both still talk about!!
Great reaction you two. I have always loved this song; it came out while I was in high school and every singer they referenced was meaningful. Also, I too, love the phrase, "If you believe in forever, life is just a one night stand." LOVE it!!!!

We need a part 2; so many great artists have left us since this song was made. John and George, Prince, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Bowie, just to name a few.
They had a live performance of this in 1981 on The American Bandstand. They added others for that performance you need to see it. Please do more of The Righteous Brothers.
Wow, I haven't heard this song in forever!! I had forgotten all about it. It was awesome to hear it again. It came out in '74 when I was 8!! Hard to believe it is 50 years old this year!! Great song!!
Jay you will love Johnny Rivers “Rocking pneumonia and boogy soggy flu”. Great piano. Amber I think you,lol love Ray Peterson,s “The Wonder of you”. Great Sax in it. Keep up the good work.
The Righteous Brothers were loved by everyone, all their songs were so good, they pleasured us with good feelings while listening to their music. 👏👏👏💜💜
So glad you finally did this one. I've been recommending it for a couple years. It was my dad's favorite song by The Righteous Brothers, so as I listened again for the first time in so long, I couldn't help but think of Pop up there enjoying the show. Thank you. As for my recommendation this time, I have to suggest my own favorite by them. "You're My Soul and Inspiration." Such a beautiful song, I know you'll both love it.
When Bill Medley does this song now in concert with his new partner, he sings at the end "Bobby's got a hell of a band," referring to the other original Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield who has since passed.
Thanks again my Utube family! Bringing back great memories. Heaps of love going to you both and your beautiful family that you've kindly shared with us all! Love YA'S!
I've got a Rightous Brothers song that is often overlooked; " Little Latin Lupe Lu ". It's a little bit different from them but a really fun song. Highly recommended!
This song was a hit in 1974. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the same two who wrote "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (with Phil Spector) and the Righteous Brothers' follow-up to "Lovin' Feelin'," "Just Once In My Life," which only one or two reactors have ever done a reaction video to. The Righteous Brothers actually broke up in 1967, a year after their big hit, "(Youre My) Soul and Inspiration," and Bobby continued under the Righteous Brothers name with Jimmy Walker (from the Knickerbockers). But they didn't have any hits and disbanded in 1971. Meanwhile, Bill had a solo hit in 1968 called "Brown Eyed Woman" about interracial relationships that was released around the time of the Supreme Court's ruling in the Loving v. Virginio case in which interracial marriage was declared legal. There's a great video of it on TH-cam where he sings with the girls group The Blossoms on an appearance on The Playboy Channel. Fast forward to 1974 and Bob and Bill got back together and released "Rock and Roll Heaven," a tribute to a number of famous recording artists who died much too young. ("Jimi gave us Rainbows," a reference to Jimi Hendrix; "Janis took a piece of our heart," a reference to Janis Joplin; "Otis brought us all to the dock of the bay," a reference to Otis Redding; "Sing a song to light my fire, remember Jim that way," a reference to Jim Morrison of the Doors; "Remember Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, remember Jimmy touched us with that song," a reference to Jim Croce, "And Bobby gave us Mac the Knife, look out he's back in town," a reference to Bobby Darin. This was their last big hit together. "Unchained Melody" was re-released when it was hot because of the movie "Ghost." But Bob and Bill never had another hut together as a duo. But there are a few Righteous Brothers songs you have get to listen to. Their first hit, written by Bill Medley, was "Little Latin Lupe Lu," (pronounce "loopy"). A rock song, really, very different from their blue-eyed soul songs that made them so well-known. As I mentioned, there's "Just Once In My Life," and Bobby had one other solo hit called "Ebb Tide." Unfortunately,, there no live performance of him singing it on TH-cam. Don't be fooled by the guy who looks and even sounds a lot like him who's on TH-cam. He's an imitator, n ot the real deal. But you can hear the studio recording of "Ebb Tide" on TH-cam, and it's an excellent example of Phil Spector's "Wall of Soound" production technique that he was so well-known for. There's also a performance of "Summertime" on TH-cam that Bobby performs solo, which is a barn burner. And you really must hear their version of "You'll Never Walk Alone," a version of which by Gerry and the Pacemakers is, to this day, the theme song for one of the big soccer teams in the UK. As you may know, since Bobby died in 2003, Bill has continued to perform as half of the Righteous Brothers with his new partner, Bucky Heard, and they play Las Vegas. Bucky is certainly not Bobby Hatfield, but he does a credible job singing with Bill. I listened to Bucky's solo album and was surprised to hear that he did a FANTASTIC job with the song, "Somewhere (There's A Place for Us)." You might oughta check it out. It's beautiful. th-cam.com/video/0cCDoLQ6HS4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ECiwnw84Q6eG_AMK
I am curious on how many references J and Amber pick up on who are members of the rock and Roll Heaven Band mentioned here. PS I know Bobby has brought his amazing voice into the Band. I bet they cover his "Unchained Melody" up there since he arrived. Sing on Bobby!!!! Addendum: Good job guys. It must be fun to have a whole new set of knowledge to pick from in such a short time. We picked it up gradually while you two are getting a massive dose. We changed with this music as it changed. I wonder how it will effect you. Do you feel changed?
"If you believe in forever, then life is just a one night stand" is on Bobby's grave marker. Bill still sings this in his show and ends it with "Bobby's got a helluva band"

I’ve always loved this !!!
I've heard this song, since it came out. It just hit me, that it gives me Three Dog Night vibes.
When Bill Medley does this song now in concert with his new partner, he sings at the end "Bobby's got a hell of a band," referring to the other original Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield who has since passed.
This song still brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my lips!
Wow, I forgot totally about this song and haven’t listened to it at all in about 50 years. Thanks for reacting to it. What a great song.
Love the righteous brother great songs
It came out in 1974 when the sound productions were reaching higher levels
Wow, I didn't know it was them. They crossed over successfully to the next decade.
Y'all should hear Ebb Tide covered by The Righteous Brothers and The Platters. It is A Beautiful song.
Great song love your reaction. You get me smiling.
Thanks again my Utube family! Bringing back great memories.
Heaps of love going to you both and your beautiful family that you've kindly shared with us all!
Love YA'S!
Chills and tears...............remarkable duo.❤
Bill Medly opened an oldies club in my town Long Beach, CA. They performed on opening night!!💋💋
Thank you. I forgot how sentimental you guys are. Great reaction. Glad you dug it.
I can't remember who did it, but a little bit ago I saw that someone had done a cover of this, adding a few new artist, including Bobby.
"LITTLE LATIN LUPE LOU"👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤❤❤
Another great "nostalgia" song is Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio, by The Ramones. It's a great tribute to growing up listening to the radio.
And "Abraham, Martin and John" by Dion.
I've got a Rightous Brothers song that is often overlooked; " Little Latin Lupe Lu ". It's a little bit different from them but a really fun song. Highly recommended!
Love this song!
Beg pardon, but "Rock & Roll Heaven" was written by Alan O'Day and Johnnn Stevenson, "Soul and Inspiration" was written by Mann-Weil.
Wow! Thanks guys! I had forgotten about this song. What a great trip down memory lane for me.
