Such an emotion evoking song. Every time I hear the Jim Croce bit "remember Bad Bad Leroy Brown, hey Jimmy touched us with that song. And time won't change a friend we came to know," it brings tears to me. Rock and Roll heaven does in fact have one hell of a band.

What really makes this song even more sad is that all of these artists died young, and within a 5 yr span prior to this song’s release in 1974. Otis & Jim C in plane crashes, Jimi, Jim M & Janis of drug-related causes and Bobby from a heart ailment. Waaaaay too soon for all of them. RIP
One of the greatest of them all...Bobby Hatfield, 1940-2003, 8 months after RnR Hall of Fame induction. They sang You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin,' their voices had changed a bit, but it was the best ever performance ever on that show. bill is thankfully still singing, but Bobby will never be forgotten. Was in my 20's when he was killed & I mourned for him like I knew him. Five months after his death I was visiting New York & found myself being let off the Culture Bus loop right next to the Dakota. I could hardly even look at the building & especially that entrance. I think sometimes, when discussing music & the greats I almost block him out. But he really should've been the first one I thought of.😥

This came out in '74, so at the time, all those artists their singing about really just died a few years before. It's great that you know a lot of the artists they're mentioning since you've been doing your show on TH-cam. Gives you some perspective of just how loved each of them was and what they meant to the world of music.

My lifelong best friend was a wannabe musician. Wrote his own songs, performed at all the open mics in his town. made me get onstage and play backup every time I visited him. He had a stroke at age 46, was recovering at my home when he had a second, major, stroke, and died in my hands as I tried to save him via CPR. Since this song was made in 1974, they could not put the biggest star that died. I’m talking about the great Elvis Presley who died in August of 1977. That was one of the worst days of my life. I cried and cried. I was 15 years old and people at school would make fun of me because I was a big fan of Elvis. The kids did not realize the impact the Elvis was in the music business. Mind you I went to school with quite a few famous metal/hard rock guitar players. So the kids were more into that. Don’t get me wrong I love Metallica, testament, primus and blind illusion. Lunchtime bands were great. But my love for Elvis was something I shared with my late father. He promised to take me to Vegas to see Elvis when I turned 21, but that never happened. Thank you for playing one of my favorite songs of 1974. Gosh I can’t believe it has been 47 years since rock n roll heaven came out. Rest In Peace Bobby Hatfield, you gave us a great song.
Elvis' death hit my Dad really hard, as he spent his adult life loving everything Elvis. Back then, I didn't have an appreciation for Elvis because, like the typical child, rejected whatever their parents liked. I was more into Zeppelin, Sabbath, and other hard rock bands of the 70s. I'm so glad that as I got older, I was able to greatly expand my musical tastes!

As a continuation of this, you should hear Bill sing California Goodbye. Last track on Almost Righteous album, the first recording Bill did after Bobby's death. (5 years later.) Was written by Steven Dorff for Bill to sing as a tribute. It will choke you up. 😭

The righteous brothers were named by a bunch of black California marines after watching their performances. Righteous because of their performance, brothers because their sound was blue eyed soul. This is a true tribute song.

Lambert & Potter were one of the best staff songwriting teams ever. They wrote this, " Don't Pull Your Love Out" "Sooner or Later", "Keeper of the Castle", and many, many more.
Since this song was made in 1974, they could not put the biggest star that died. I’m talking about the great Elvis Presley who died in August of 1977. That was one of the worst days of my life. I cried and cried. I was 15 years old and people at school would make fun of me because I was a big fan of Elvis. The kids did not realize the impact the Elvis was in the music business. Mind you I went to school with quite a few famous metal/hard rock guitar players. So the kids were more into that. Don’t get me wrong I love Metallica, testament, primus and blind illusion. Lunchtime bands were great. But my love for Elvis was something I shared with my late father. He promised to take me to Vegas to see Elvis when I turned 21, but that never happened. Thank you for playing one of my favorite songs of 1974. Gosh I can’t believe it has been 47 years since rock n roll heaven came out. Rest In Peace Bobby Hatfield, you gave us a great song.
Elvis' death hit my Dad really hard, as he spent his adult life loving everything Elvis. Back then, I didn't have an appreciation for Elvis because, like the typical child, rejected whatever their parents liked. I was more into Zeppelin, Sabbath, and other hard rock bands of the 70s. I'm so glad that as I got older, I was able to greatly expand my musical tastes!
