Got a 2006 Xterra, 160K and over the last couple of years the check engine light/vdc/slip lights would come on...first thoughts were rear diff fluids. After another couple of years the same issues recently with stalling/not starting/rough running... Did some checks and the code was for the crankshaft position sensor... Found this video along with others but this seemed to the point...$34 later and 1 hour work, it's back to the beast it was and if you have the right tools and small hands it is very easy, my hands are big and I spent more time trying to get in and out of the space than it did to do the work itself...Very good video. Thanks
Crazy that you put this video up today! I bought a 2011 a couple weeks ago and have been binging your videos since then. Today my engine died all of a sudden on the road, started it back and ran the codes and it was the crank sensor. Just now finished the repair out in the dark in my driveway and she is running good again! Thanks for all the vids man

Dude, you saved me yesterday. My '06 Xterra just stalled when in a drive thru line yesterday. After many tries, it started up while pushing it out of line. When back on the road, it had little power and the tach was bouncing erratically. I suspected the battery as I've had a few issues with it or fuel delivery (some O2 issues too), but after getting home I saw the P0335 code. I Immediately checked your channel for help. I replaced sensor same day and had it back in form in no time and only $40 . I just hit 200K miles and want to keep it running for a while longer. My bad, you are 5 correct. I screwed up because two of the 3 look the same and I installed them in reverse. Corrected it after it was still throwing the code. Ry you have saved me hours of grief and research on the Xterra. Mine shuts off randomly pulling out from a stop sign or cruising down the highway only when it is really hot outside and an almost CEL but never would stick! So I replaced the cam sensors and cleaned my MAF and throttle body- no luck. It shut off today at work and FINALLY threw a CEL. Crank sensor code!! I was so excited to finally catch a code lol! Thanks again to you and your great video I will be replacing that sensor tomorrow.

Just a word of thanks for the video, it is extremely helpful. I have a 2014 Xterra "X" and for others with a 2014, you'll need a ten inch extension plus a swivel for your socket wrench to reach the bolt because of an interfering metal line (maybe AC, IDK ?) that doesn't exist on Ry's Xterra.

Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 Nissan Xterra first gen. A previous "mechanic" was working on repairing the engine block that got damaged due to overheating. Now the car does not crank nor start. I noticed the engine harness has a plug that is not connected to anything and I am going in circles trying to figure out where that connector goes. It might not be my problem but I am guessing that connector should be installed somewhere. Is there any way for me to send you couple pictures for you so see the connector and see if you can guide me a bit on how to get this baby started again? This has to be an electrical issue that XYZ mechanic did not connect something correctly. Please help! Thanks
Hey Ry! Do you recommend using the same brand for the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors? I replaced both camshaft position sensors with Hitachi brand a week ago and was going to do the same for the crankshaft position sensors, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Would a Duralast or Carquest brand be okay to use?

Awesome tutorial and the second time your videos have been helpful!. Thanks so much for putting these together! I wish I could say the most recent DIY had gone as smoothly as the first video when I changed out my valve timing sensor. This time around I had the crankshaft position sensor to replace. In short, I broke the bolt and then proceeded to break an extractor in said bolt. FML. This is after drilling a very well centered hole and just making the mistake of not drilling to the next size extractor as recommended. Yes. Here's my question. Is it possible to remove the transmission dip stick guide tube in situ? If I could get this out of my way in the right wheel well, I'd have a clear shot to hit it with the rotary grinder
I am not sure if you will see this but I've had an issue with my 2007 Xterra for months now ...basically the truck wouldn't start..I jumped it and it started , eventually replaced the battery same thing was happening ..but it always started by jumping and then would run for a few weeks and do it again. I have the cat code for bank2 and the for awhile now ... I thought it was related to the ignition kill from the dealer but they said they had nothing to do with it ..but a few times I disconnected and it started. So I have no idea
Do you know if the 2002 Nissan Xterra has 2 crankshaft position sensors? I changed one on the driver side behind the tire but didn’t know there was a 2nd one on that passenger side
No sir, you could consider it if you have a tight fit and the oring starts to roll back. But in this case there is plenty of space and you wont need it. 👍🏻
I recently did all 3 on a 2006 Xterra SE. I had replaced just one sensor about 3-4 years ago and then these years later it mysteriously died on me. I had heard that not replacing all 3 can cause weird problems so I just replaced all 3 simultaneously and went to start it back up and it’s running supper rough - all the check engine lights are lit up like a Christmas tree. Any ideas?
Random shut off So the other day my RPM, temperature, oil, battery, gas and miles per hour. All just turned off my car was still going, headlights turned off. Cluster lights turned off and then everything came back on There wasn't any change or noises. I was still able to give it gas and apply brakes then all of a sudden everything came back on and it was fine. Then today same thing except I couldn't go anywhere then it kicked back on and was accelerating and braking etc Any ideas?
I just replaced both camshaft sensors and the crank sensor and now the 2012 pathfinder won’t even start. Could someone please help me out? SOLVED: Super embarrassing guys but I began the process of elimination and began reinstalling both of the old sensors one by one starting with camshaft bank 2 (45° one, right side when facing engine) and no luck. Left the old one in bank 2 and reinstalled the old cam sensor bank one, and discovered my stupid mistake. I was tightening the bolt and it seemed to never tighten. I thought I was over tightening and checked and inadvertently pushed the cam sensor in fully and heard a pop-I hadn’t pushed in the camshaft sensors all the way. 😑😑😑😑 pushed both old sensors in all the way and hand tightens the nut. Went to start the car and voila! Car came to life and engine turned over. Reinstalled the new, Nissan OEM cam sensors on bank 1 and 2 and this time, made sure they were filled sealed, and the engine roared to life. Ended up taking the passenger wheel off and making sure the crank sensor was fully seated and it was. Noob mistake. Thank God I caught it.

I can see the sensor from outside the vehicle without even removing the wheel although I will do that to get closer to plug and bolt. Has anyone tried this?
Anyone have tips for pulling out the bolt for the sensor when it falls down into the bellhousing? No idea how I managed to mess up such an easy fix this bad.
Bro! How did you manage that? There should be an inspection panel at the very bottom of the bell housing. It's used to access your fly wheel. You should be able to unscrew the bolts on the inspection panel, pull it off, and get your bolt out from there.
When I pulled the bad part the bolt came undone and I'm almost sure it fell down there cause it's nowhere to be found. Thank you so much for your reply I'll check it out and try that out!!

I watch all videos. Great work. If you could include a comparison of original part to new part. Wouldn’t hurt. My new sensor from Nissan was different than the original one so I was questioning myself on the part
I had that on my 2008 x. Repair shop had a pending code for the crank position sensor. Replacement solved the problem.
Excellent! Glad you have it resolved. It's an important sensor.
Hey Ry great videos that you put out. I have a question hopefully you can answer. Had engine light go on and code came to change passengers cam pos sensor. So went ahead and changed all 3 sensors with OEM Nissan parts on 06 Nissan frontier. Changed 2 cam pos sensors and the crank position sensor. Engine light went away, but now long crank time before frontier turns on. Thanks again any feedback appreciated
You definitely helped me,thank you 👊
You're welcome! Have a great night
ah... when I did my both camshaft sensors I did them the hard way I guess doing blind by had.. just from the top.. it was not easy lol so it is prob better doing it this way . But we live and learn thats all its about )
That's right! 👍🏻
Your videos been saving me from hitting them shops and spending crazy money lol
I just have one question..
Have your camshaft sensors gone bad??
I ordered the camshaft sensors from Amazon, the ones from your link in that video,
But I heard after market might go bad in a few months or days???
Nope, mine have been great! 👍🏻
Good info! Thanks for the video.
I own a 2000 v6 frontier, manual transmission can you do a video on how to replace a crankshaft position sensor. I appreciate it. 🙏
Do you have the OEM part number for the crankshaft sensor from Nissan? I’m having this issue now on my 2011 X
Great video bro..thanks
No problem 👍 thanks for watching ,
Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 Nissan Xterra first gen. Thanks
Thanks bro!
Can u get to the crankshaft censor from the top because gonna be replacing valve cover gaskets and I wanted to know if I can access it from the top?
Oh yea. If you have the valve covers off it's gunna be cake
Hey Man! I have an 03 xterra and the p0340 code came up. Where exactly is the camshaft sensor in a 2003 xterra? I’ve looked at multiple video and seem to not be able to find it still. Thank you!
The camshaft is going to be inside the distributor. You’re better off replacing the whole distributor to prevent any issues
Does anyone know why I would have to change the camshaft sensors as well?
I have 2012 xterra and engine knocks so hardly most of time when I reach 3 gear at low speeds I changed spark fuelpunp and injectors! Can someone give me some help !?
I have never drove a stick shift before I drove one today for the first time by listening to a few people I got on 610 freeway I pressed the clutch when I wanted to put it in gear when I got off the freeway and start smoking now we won't even turn on can you tell me what it could be
Thanks!
No, thank YOU!
I have a hissing noise in engine and a lean code. You think that a vacuum leak could be the culprit? Code p1283
Where did you get the shirt ? Let me know I love it
That my merch. I made it and it was on limited release a couple years back. Thinking about doing another run as I have gotten a lot of questions about it.
Nice gracias
De nada!
Is there 1 or 2 crankshaft sensors on a 2013 Nissan exterra? Had a part store tell me there was 2 but not sure can anyone help me out.thanks in advance
You're welcome, thanks for watching and be sure to sub. Still new X content coming out.
Do you recommend the oem sensor or Hitachi brand ?
Hitachi Might be the OEM provider. but yes, I do recommend OEM.
Oh yes. I would imagine if its a v6
Hey ryan have you had to do your heater core
No and I am very grateful LOL.
Yeah it’s a nightmare I haven’t done it yet but mine started seeping so I had to bypass but it looks zero fun
Is this the same for 02 Nissan Xterra?
No, I am sorry.
Hey Ry, do you have to use any grease products while putting in a new sensor?
No sir, you could consider it if you have a tight fit and the oring starts to roll back. But in this case there is plenty of space and you wont need it. 👍🏻
I recently did all 3 on a 2006 Xterra SE. I had replaced just one sensor about 3-4 years ago and then these years later it mysteriously died on me. I had heard that not replacing all 3 can cause weird problems so I just replaced all 3 simultaneously and went to start it back up and it’s running supper rough - all the check engine lights are lit up like a Christmas tree. Any ideas?
Random shut off
So the other day my RPM, temperature, oil, battery, gas and miles per hour. All just turned off my car was still going, headlights turned off. Cluster lights turned off and then everything came back on There wasn't any change or noises. I was still able to give it gas and apply brakes then all of a sudden everything came back on and it was fine.
Then today same thing except I couldn't go anywhere then it kicked back on and was accelerating and braking etc
Any ideas?
Glad you got it worked out my man.
Subbed
🤘🏻🤘🏻
It's usually always the passenger cam sensor lol. The x's get way to warm under the hood. I've done them enough i have spares in my shop and it's a piece of cake haha...
Crazy that they suck so bad.
@@Rythecarguy ya, i have no clue. Im trying to track down the intermittent super rough idle that throws the evap leak codes. Any idea where to start? I've replace the valve on the canister. Havnt checked any hoses. But really dont want to spend a couple hundred on a new can!
How do you know if it’s the right or left cmp?
For the second gen Xterra there is only one. If there was two, it would tell you what bank the bad one is on.
I wanted the crankshaft position sensor not the camshaft. I stand corrected.
That's the crank.
what year is your x terra?
2005 second gen
Does anyone know if the other sensor is located in the same location, on the driver side?
The crank only has one sensor in the Xterra. The cams have one in each cylinder head.
Is this a 4.0 or a 2.5. I cant find any videos on my 2.5
4.0 second gen
where is the cranck shaft position sensor is located in 2002 nissan frontier
I'm sorry I do not know. I have not worked on that generation.
I want that xterra tshirt. Where can I get one?
That was a limited edition run. Planning on doing another one soon.
@@Rythecarguy sign me up. Love your vids.
Great video except my socket doesn’t go in as easy and can’t get the 10mm nut off
Sorry to hear that
What year is this
2005
i just did this today, it wouldnt start at first then it finally turned over, went for a test drive and started hesitating and just shut off while driving, then wouldnt start again, had to get towed home, anyone know what i did wrong? or maybe a faulty sensor?
I have a 2008 SE. I see no reason to remove the inside cover in the fender. I can pull back a little and slip my hand right in to get to the sensor.
That's a bummer. Let me know how it goes!
@@Rythecarguy Dude I opened up the inspection plate and couldn't see anything. I'm not sure if it did go in there or not. I think my next move is turning the engine by hand. I'm gonna see if I can find a procedure to follow on forums😭
Sorry buddy!! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Yeah you showed us where it is 1:30 minutes into the video. You got some hands boy
Thanks I think? Lol
Да очень интересно! Но sensor чего именно?!
Этот датчик сообщает компьютеру положение коленчатого вала и сравнивает его с положением распредвалов. Это важно для ГРМ двигателя.
Dealership was charging me $800 for the replacement I’m paying a mechanic to do it for $250 plus parts
What!?! That's crazy money for the crank sensor.
I have the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder, has the same issue, I'm going to go ahead and replace the crankshaft position sensor, I didn't hear you mention what the engine is, mine is the 4.0, sensor is in the same place, so you might want to mention what engine you're working on, so if we aren't working on the 2 models you are, we still might have the same thing in a different model.
I hope this cures the dying while driving issue. I think it will.
