    If you plan on putting the front and back on jack stands jack up the front first where it shows in the video and make sure to put the jack stands where the arrows are on the frame . If you jack up the back and put jack stands before jacking up the front the car will be pulled forward and might fall off the jackstands , my jackstands were half off the ground at a 45 degree angle so learn from me . Start at the front of the vehicle !

    Great demonstration. I'd add that, when lifting the front, you have to lift it WAY up in order for the tires not to touch when you lower down on the jacks.

    Put the front end on jackstands first. The parking brake and transmission will help keep the car from rolling while lifting.

    If I want to work on the rear suspension or change the rear hydraulic brake lines. I wouldn’t want to put the jackstands on the axle so where would I position them?

    Nice job on the video. I have a 2017 Frontier Pro4x crew cab...is it safe to put the entire vehicle up on 4 jack stands? It's necessary to get all 4 wheels off the ground in order to easily rotate the tires.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you are careful there should be no problems. Each jack stand is rated at 2 tons. Thats 16,000lb of load they can handle (if evenly distributed) Also, when (if) you ever take your truck to the shop they always completely lift it off the ground using those 4 points.

    So what if I just have a big floor jack and only want to do 1 tire at a time, where would I jack one side with the big jack?

  • @PaulHenreid
    @PaulHenreid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The owners manual for a 2007 Nissan Xterra Section 6-5 states: "Use only the jack provided with your vehicle to lift the vehicle. . . . Use the correct jack-up points. Never use any other part of the vehicle for jack support."

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm sure that's what's the owners manual says. I reference the factory service manual. FSM shows how to use the jack provoded with the vechicle as well as a large floor jack and a 2 post lift. All valid and correct ways of lifting your Xterra. What your manual is saying is don't use the jack provided with the vehicle on any other part of the vechicle. Not that you can't lift it from any other point using the proper tools.

      Then dont lift on that location. You would be better off lifting on the individual points.

      You'd need rock sliders on the sides or bull bar up front/hitch in the rear.

  • @alexanderdrury3308
    @alexanderdrury3308 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    From experience, you really should remove the plastic shield or at least loosen it to fully seat the jack on the front end of the frame. When I rotated my tires earlier I didn’t remove it and now I’ve got to deal with a cracked transmission case because the jack slipped. Hopefully it can be welded 🤞😔

      Put the jack on the frame where the arrow is to lift, you see that arrow where he places the jack stand in the video for the front.

    Damn, I wished you showed what spot under the truck. To many close points near that differential. Pretty hard to see location of exact point. I never really liked lifting up truck from rear differentials as most manufacturers don't recommend it. I imagine this truck has a specific spot near the rear recommended by Nissan?

    • @MannyAguilarJr
      @MannyAguilarJr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where he put the jack stands are the recommended lift points in the Nissan frontier/Xterra manual the front of the vehicle has arrows on the frame and the rear is on the rear axle next to the u-bolt plate.

      @ELEVOPR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MannyAguilarJr Yes, O saw it in the Manual. I needed to put on new tires so I did two at a time. Rear first + the spare, then the two front ones. 🤗

    Hi Ry. I am planning to change the rear brake pads and rotor on my 07 Nissan Xterra. Can I use the jack the Xterra comes with and just put one jack stand the same place you showed? I will work on one side at a time.

    It's a PARKING brake...NOT an 'E' brake. I don't know why you Americans think it's an emergency brake. Pull that up at any speed and watch the back end try to catch up with the front end. Also, as a mechanic, I would have thought you would know to press the button in when you lift the PARKING brake. It releases the pressure on the cable when you pull it up and helps to make the cable last longer. Still love the videos, you've been a great help, thanks.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      😂 we call it an emergency brake because 99.999999% of cars here are automatics and people do not use that brake when they are parking. They use it then there is an emergency. Also, I am definitely not a mechanic. Thanks for watching my videos, glad ya like them. 👍🏻

    • @MannyAguilarJr
      @MannyAguilarJr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Also known as a parking brake, hand brake and e-brake, the emergency brake was originally designed to be used if the vehicle's main braking system would fail." From Wagner brakes website

    • @Harmonic14
      @Harmonic14 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you should research the origin of the mechanism before making dumb statements. Besides, you should be able to control your car in a rear-brakes-only scenario - it’s not that difficult, especially on dry pavement.

    I wouldn't recommend jacking from the differential housing, in fact to my knowledge no manufacturer recommends this including Nissan (manual page: 6-5). Heres the thing, technically it can be used to lift the vehicle but often times many users don't know where to actually place the jack properly, you don't do it in the differential seal you do it like you showed in you video going into front of it. Incorrect placement or even correct placement can still damage the differential in several ways. Incorrect placement on the seal causes it to split down the gasket and cause leaks. Jacking from the forward part of the differential has the risk of crack the cast iron / steel housing which is very costly. In addition the risk of the jack slipping from a uneven surface, and only using one contact point vs two is to great.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not sure what manual you are using but the factory manual says to use the diff. You will find that all of my videos follow the FSM for the Xterra (unless its a mod).

    • @NKaumans
      @NKaumans 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nissan Xterra manual. Page 6-5. The points of lift on the vehicle are shown in the manual to be the rear leaf assembly plate on each side and for the front there are two reinforced seams that you are to use. Despite being a closed frame design you can still bend the frame rails if you don't use the proper lift point

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      6-5 is not even a page in a factory service manual. You are probably reading a Haynes or Chilton manual. I am referring to GI-41 of the FACTORY service manual. That is the manual that NISSAN creates on how to fix and maintain their cars. I am pretty sure Nissan knows hot to take care of their cars.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't mean to be shitty but people keep challenging me on my tactics. The FSM is the bible of working on a car. It is the undisputed references for all repair and maintenance
      items.

      hey man don't sweat it... your vids have been a lifesaver for me, your vids are clear and concise. Your technique is always on par and professional. anyways, this video and the comments got me thinking about an issue with my xterra. I have an unidentified oil leak somewhere near that rear diff... hmmm I wonder if someone who worked on it before me, jacked it up wrongly, damaging that seal... visiblely you cant tell where the oil is coming from...but its been a persistent n annoying problem for me... gonna try to do some detective work today. Got any suggestions for me?
