I’ve seen every episode of the show until about halfway through Season 12 so I can’t speak about the quality of the show from Season 13 onwards. But I think the main thing I noticed was the major tone shift. I think as a result of backlash from the mean spiritedness of the Dark Era, the writers changed the tone to be more kiddy and so that’s why we’ve gotten a lot more slapstick and cartoony humor since Season 9. Because it’s more innocuous than what was happening in Season 6 for example. Basically, they overcorrected the tone, and it now feels like a totally different show like you were saying.
Season 9B still had the clever verbal humor that was in the earlier seasons, they just had more expressive animation. However it wasn't too expressive, and I feel like Season 9B had the best balance in regards to the animation in the post-sequel Era
At least they tried to do it right unlike Disney for example and many other companies who arw methodically doing everything wrong without any semblance of doing things correctly and I don't mean the writers strike, I'm 99% sure the writers who are striking are the awful 'writers' responsible for most of the trash marvel movies of phase 4, they have the right idea, they have to go above the universe but they do it for all the wrong characters except Loki he's fair enough And Wanda is a total moron, she has reality warping powers she can litterally just create another world for herself to be happy in She can even give herself new powers because that's what reality warping does; everything and anything based on the limit of your power

3:03 It really is just Ren and Stimpy 'Widescreen Fish Edition" and I personally don't have a problem since i like the modern episodes a lot, but going back and forth between old and new stuff just feels weird. SpongeBob needs the Sonic treatment: fans of the glory days grow up and start working on the show, bringing it back to higher standards of quality because they have a deep love and respect for the original source material. One can dream...
The first 3 seasons were top tier. Tho after the first movie, there were some decent episodes, but also a notably enormous amount of crappy episodes. Tho many episodes have meme origins. Modern episodes of SpongeBob imo are watered down beavis and butthead episodes with SpongeBob characters. Only reason why beavis and butthead works with slapstick is cuz the duo actually react to the pain, kind of like ren and stimpy. And I’ll even throw in ed, Edd, n eddy as a classic slapstick success
BradenInsane. What made you like the 2nd half of season 5 a lot? I was noticing it on when you considered SpongeBob good. The other good seasons are full complete seasons: 1-3 and 9.
By the way, now that season 13 is finally over, and you consider it a bad season, where is it on the list? Is it better or worse than season 12, if worse, is it WORSE than 6, or if better, is it BETTER than 7?
Season 4 was supposed to be in that graphic but there was an error in my editing software. Also, I like season 5 as a whole, not just the second half. I just used the second half for that graphic because it was the only one i could find with the same dimensions as the others.
Cool. Now, where would season 13 place in the SpongeBob seasons worst to best list (in this case, the former)? Speaking of bad seasons, good job reviewing seasons 1-8 of the FOP, which is a mix of Good and Okay seasons. Interestingly, season 6 has better quality than 8 in terms of statistics (8 has an even 60%, while 6 has 60.42%). Along with Channel Chasers vs. School's Out: The Musical comparison, comparing season 6 and 8 could be an interesting video later down the line. I know you must be watching FOP season 9 right now, so good luck, cause oh boy, this and season 10 are gonna be painful to sit through. I’m sure we won’t find a better episode than the Musical or Chasers episode again, but let us know if you find an episode worse than Vicky Gets Fired and Lights Out when you review seasons 9 & 10.
i find it so interesting how modern Spongebob tries to be so self-referencial by referencing old episodes, like a last ditch effort to nostalgiabait people into liking the show, when it was never those references that made it good, it was the writing style and witty humor.
0:12 The Season 13 DVD came out? I got the season 12 DVD last year and I don't know what I did with it but I thought season 12 was okay it had some good episodes but I hate season 13.
Everything after the movie isn't Spongebob to me and a lot of other fans. That's when the show was supposed to end, and it's very clear they've been keeping it going just for the sake of it. Even just trying to follow along with the new episodes, it's painfully apparent their target audience can't sit still or pay attention for very long, so something has to constantly be happening on screen and whatever that is has to be in your face and over the top. All of the characters were fledged out and had substance and now they're just.. cartoon characters. The original writer passed away (Hillenburg) in 2018 so it's been other people's interpretation of what Spongebob and the characters are for a while. Hillenburg was a genius at writing clever, witty, thought out jokes, but all the movies and shows today are like this. The writing and creativity are just mediocre compared to the 90's-00's.
We learned with the Simpsons that there is no point of no return. You can kick out the whole writing team and get a new one with talent and respect for the (good) source material and start over with the same setting.
At this point it’s better off that we just give up on this show; shocking idea I know, but with how bad it has gotten since the beginning of the tenth season, there’s no point constantly hoping for another golden age only to be given yet another hot steaming pile of crap! #CancelSpongeBobNick
I don't think it goes that deep, but yes I do kind of agree. Along with the slow's decline, but it also made Nick more picky when greenlighting new shows, causing them to treat other shows unfairly.
5:25 The Looney Tunes show is actually not very new, it was released back in 2011 and only got 2 seasons, after that WB reverted the Looney Tunes franchise back to the wacky humor that modern spongebob has today which is kinda a shame but I think for Looney tunes this works.
I’m probably going to get hate for this but I actually like modern SpongeBob. Obviously it does beat classic SpongeBob but I don’t mind it all and it’s still pretty funny. I would say 7.5/10
@@Daniel_d573fjd Swimming Fools, Big Top Flop, Salty Sponge, Plankton and the Beanstalk, Mandatory Music, Friendiversary, Say Awww!, Patrick the Mailman, Gary's Playhouse, Spatula of the Heavens, Ride Patrick Ride, Ain't That the Tooth, Delivery to Monster Island, The Goobfather, Potato Puff, Goofy Scoopers... All of these are between great and amazing
On what planet DuckDodgers and the Looney Tunes show is "modern looney tunes"??? Those shows ended ages ago, specially duckdodgers, if you want example of modern looney tunes that would be "Looney Tunes Cartoons" and those go against your point because they feel more like the older shorts
In the grand scheme of how long Looney Tunes have been around they're relatively modern. Looney Tunes have been around for 90+ years. By that standard, The Looney Tunes Show and Duck Dodgers are modern.
@AAAGamesMaster That's a stupid comparison. Home on the Range isn't a franchise that's been using the same characters for 90+ years, the Looney Tunes is
@@WubbaizyShipper1 I will omit season 5 did have some pretty scummy episodes but it also unlike the other Seasons after it at least it was experimenting with the show and it still had tons of great episodes
Spongebob isn't a bad show now its just different from the early Seasons. My only problems are the lack of whitty humor in the new seasons (which is due to the show switching from a storyboard driven show to a script driven show), SpongeBob torturing Squidward when he doesnt deserve it, Patrick not being funny anymore and the countless references to the first 3 seasons. I've lost hope in Family guy and The Simpsons but not SpongeBob it can get better. Bassward is a good episode but Squididiot Box is boring and disappointing.
Literally. Fun fact: some of the people who used to work on Ren & Stimpy are now working on SpongeBob, which explains why the animation and visuals are the way they are since Season 10 or 11 onward.
@@manofwisdom000Dude, those people been working on SpongeBob ever since the show started, even Vincent Waller the current show runner was working on it since the beginning and he was working on Ren & Stimpy, the only reason all this slapstick happened around the modern seasons was because they just had a different direction before them.
Oh it wasn't that episode from season 4 sorry. I just saw the time card and commented because I wanted to watch the review but got caught up with a choir. Silly me.
SpongeBob never got bad bruh 😂😂😂 the problem is simply we just out grew the show. The show is still continuing because it’s still doing its job to perfection, which is being appealing to their target audience: KIDS!!! Kids still like this show, if they are still doing that and making money, why tf would they cancel it?
It is not that the episodes are bad, it’s that you aren’t the target audience anymore. You are an adult. You grew up with old SpongeBob. I am a teenager. I grew up with middle Spongebob. I have to say, the switch from 9 to 10 WAS IMMACULATE and I enjoyed the new seasons a lot. I’ve also watched older Spongebob recently, and I just get kinda bored. It’s not as cheerful and vibrant as the new seasons, it’s literally just life in Bikini Bottom. The new seasons are extremely unique in their plots and I’d say they do it more than well. People usually stick to what they grow up with, and I understand that. Children and teenagers today are different from back then, and the show’s makers understand that. They know you guys won’t like new Spongebob because it’s not what you grew up with so they attempt to appeal with the references to older seasons, which you guys are so-so on. I know you guys probably won’t listen to giving it a chance from this perspective, but please just understand that you’ve grown. You can like the seasons you grew up with but you don’t need to bash new ones simply because it isn’t the same. Change isn’t always bad, and in this case they’re just changing to appeal to a new demographic, which they’re doing greatly in my opinion.
People use this argument and in my case (I can't speak for everyone else), it's not true. It would be one thing if I didn't give reasons why I don't like the show anymore, but I gave specific reasoning and articulated it in a detailed way. To say "you just don't like it because you're older" is to say "i look at this reasoning you took hours trying to articulate clearly, and I just think you're lying about your own opinion"
nah bro, im 15, and the newest seasons of spongebob were the absolute pinnacle of horseshit that i have ever seen, the constant over-animation and constant over the top facial expressions ruin the whole show even if an episode has a good plot. I feel like im watching shit made for 3 year olds, thats why the first 5 seasons of spongebob will never be touched in quality by any other season. Its not that you might not be the “target audience” its knowing whether or not you are watching mindless garbage that will never make you laugh.
@@QU141. Say it loud, say it proud. It amazes me when people like the original commenter say stuff like "you no longer like the show because you're older now" schmuck as an excuse to dismiss critical and logical points about a cartoon. The original first 3 seasons may not have had as much high energy as the current ones do, but the characters all felt like they actually belong here and aren't flanderized to oblivion levels, with clever subtle adult humor that obviously went over our heads back when we were kids and many excellent memorable catchphrases and one liners that became famous memes. Seasons 4-10 are okay, with some episodes staying true to the original quality of the show from the first 3 seasons and the first movie, but it's hard to love Season 11 onward due to the constant stretchy animation and visuals and excessive overuse of over-the-top facial expressions.
This is a nonsensical point to make when I've pointed out specific ways the show is different now. If new episodes started to come out and they were funny, I'd like them, regardless of my age.
I’ve seen every episode of the show until about halfway through Season 12 so I can’t speak about the quality of the show from Season 13 onwards. It was supposed to be in, but I made an editing mistake
SpongeBob needs the Sonic treatment: fans of the glory days grow up and start working on the show, bringing it back to higher standards of quality because they have a deep love and respect for the original source material. One can dream...
BradenInsane, I Wonder If You Can Do Every Episode Of SpongeBob Season 11 Reviewed And Season 12 And Season 13 Please
Squidward should get his own show on whatever nicks equivalent is too adult swim, but nick at nite ain’t it.
Funfact, in germany Ren Höek and Sponbob share the same voice actor.
I Think This is Just Like The Amazing World of Gumball Episode The Spinoffs
0:12 The Season 13 DVD came out? I got the season 12 DVD last year and I don't know what I did with it but I thought season 12 was okay it had some good episodes but I hate season 13.
Episode SpongeBob doesn't appear? That's impossible!
0:37 and family guy both shows first aired in the same year of 1999
Like it would be cool if they shared that “hate” for SpongeBob like they did in one of the episodes ( can’t remember what the name is)
The episode is called Gone
Did SpongeBob ever get his driver license?
Doppelbob gangerpants
completing for the kids attention over their phones
Squidward Tortellini
When did this air?
5:25 The Looney Tunes show is actually not very new, it was released back in 2011 and only got 2 seasons, after that WB reverted the Looney Tunes franchise back to the wacky humor that modern spongebob has today which is kinda a shame but I think for Looney tunes this works.
I’m probably going to get hate for this but I actually like modern SpongeBob. Obviously it does beat classic SpongeBob but I don’t mind it all and it’s still pretty funny. I would say 7.5/10
Damn, another Spongebob review, huh?
SpongeBob been getting Less & Lesser Appearances lately even b4 "Bassword"... like "Lockdown for Love"? SpongeBob slowly becoming a NPC😂😂😂🤦♂️
Im sorry, but I love spongebob, no matter what
I still would rather season 10-12 over season 9...
AAAAAHHHHHHHH stop looping the same episode over and over its ANOYYYYINNGGGGGG
i mean, who watches spongebob episodes with spongebob himself?
I love Spoungebob
That episode was funny 😅
This episode was weird not bad though
Is their any good season 13 episodes?
Dopey Dick, Potato Puff, Ma and Pa's Big Hurrah. That's it.
Depends on your definition of good. I say they're all terrible, but some episodes are worse than others
@@Daniel_d573fjddopey dick is a real episode? 😂
@@QU141. Yep lol
I saw it... think its meh
ive liked every season of SpongeBob but 13
I like every season, but there are some awful episodes
step 1 download the early seasons
step 2 never watch the other garbage
On what planet DuckDodgers and the Looney Tunes show is "modern looney tunes"???
Those shows ended ages ago, specially duckdodgers, if you want example of modern looney tunes that would be "Looney Tunes Cartoons" and those go against your point because they feel more like the older shorts
In the grand scheme of how long Looney Tunes have been around they're relatively modern. Looney Tunes have been around for 90+ years. By that standard, The Looney Tunes Show and Duck Dodgers are modern.
@@BradenINSANE No dude... Disney is around for 100 years but nobody calls "Home on the Range" a "Modern" Disney movie lmao
Duck Dodgers came out 2 DECADES ago my dude, get real
@AAAGamesMaster That's a stupid comparison. Home on the Range isn't a franchise that's been using the same characters for 90+ years, the Looney Tunes is
@@BradenINSANE Mickey and the Three Musketeers isn't modern Mickey Mouse, there, happy?
is that a ciggeret joke? 1:37
No, also can you PLEASE look up how to spell something if you don't know
im dyslexic and u r ablist X3 @@BradenINSANE
I think the show was good in season 5 too sn it should have ended there not the movie
TBH, I think S5 was the beginning of the first dark era.
@@WubbaizyShipper1 I will omit season 5 did have some pretty scummy episodes but it also unlike the other Seasons after it at least it was experimenting with the show and it still had tons of great episodes
i really think they should retire the sponge hes been going on way too long its getting worse and worse imo

SpongeBob got better in Season 14
Season 12 is better than 13 and 14 ngl
Damn the modern art style is ugly. it hurts to look at.
Isnt it kind of late to review this epsiode?
Not if it’s fun content
(Which it is)
I actually planned on reviewing this a lot earlier, but it got delayed due to exam week taking up a lot of my time
Oh it wasn't that episode from season 4 sorry. I just saw the time card and commented because I wanted to watch the review but got caught up with a choir. Silly me.
does a review need to be out at a certain time?
the episode is not the same without spongebob
This is for now on the worst episode I’ve ever seen garbage episode. Never watched it again. It’s lame. It’s boring and bubble bass is still annoying.
Girl sthu
Debatable but ever since season 11 started I think it started to became more like a kids show
It is not that the episodes are bad, it’s that you aren’t the target audience anymore.
@@BradenINSANE Thank you so much!
The show’s not getting worse, you’re getting older, ok?
This is a nonsensical point to make when I've pointed out specific ways the show is different now.
If new episodes started to come out and they were funny, I'd like them, regardless of my age.
Look at the overall reviews for the latest seasons, the reviews don’t lie lmao
