The official SpongeBob twitter announced, not even that far from SpongeBob Sponge on the Run, that we're getting four more SpongeBob movies, and these will be coming alongside more Kamp Koral, more Patrick Star Show, and more of the core show. It's a lot.

I think the reason we keep getting too many SpongeBob projects is not just because it's arguably Viacom's most popular property, but also because they don't have as many globally successful franchises as Disney or Warner Bros. And now that they have their own streaming service, they need as much content as possible.

The SpongeBob Movie back in 2004 was actually supposed to be the official end to SpongeBob but Nickelodeon needed it to stay cuz it's the only show that's keeping them alive and it's just simply too big of a marketing influence.
You know I am somewhat glad it did not end there, but maybe it is time it does end. Season 4 and 5 had some good episodes that frankly I am glad happened but four movies let alone four more may be to much.

I wish people would stop hating on modern SpongeBob. 2004-2014 wasn’t-by far-a golden age, but the last few seasons have been good with very few exceptions. It’s a beloved show, and the cast and crew love i. Hillenburg was working on and consulting people on SpongeBob-related projects up until his death. He didn’t want SpongeBob to end, even if though he wasn’t always 100% satisfied with every single choice made about the franchise. I wish more people understood this despite their opinions.

@@pokemonfanthings4444 Actually hillenburg did say he wanted the show to end after the 2004 movie so that way it wouldn’t jump the shark but despise that decision Nickelodeon kept it going due to the high ratings and marketing influence. Back in 2009, Stephen said that he was against the idea of having his creativity spin-offs with baby characters because it was a bad call but since he passed away Nickelodeon can now do what they want with it😈

There’s a Garfield movie coming but everyone seems to hate it already because the Legendary Chris Pratt will voice the character (I don’t see any problem with it but that’s just how I feel)

I'm worried that they're going to run this franchise into the ground (which is saying a lot cause some would argue they already have). SpongeBob isn't Marvel, it's not some grand universe with lots of characters and narratives to explore. It's a single TV show from the 90s with a small cast of characters that has been on TV for far longer than it really should have. Trying to turn SpongeBob into something like Marvel or DC just doesn't work. They're trying to milk a cow that has been dry for over a decade.

I hate to say it, but the numbers prove you wrong. I agree personally that I dislike the newer stuff, but the numbers are still showing positives, and BIG positive ratings at that (Spongebob was the #1 streamed show when it was put onto streaming)

I'm getting anxious about the ability to maintain quality and stuff in the franchise, what with spreading everyone around, and presumably different people in different sections and everything! Will Spongebob stay the same after this? Will things only get more commercial from here?

Nickelodeon is milking Spongebob so bad he's gonna be so dry as he was in Sandy's Treedome!
The SpongeBob franchise is literally a sponge that they will continue to squeeze until it’s completely dry. And even then they will keep squeezing it hoping to produce something out of something that will be more than dead at that point.
It probably wouldn't be a problem if they didn't give us all this stuff seemingly ALL AT ONCE. We've got two spin-offs airing at the same time as not just each other, but also the ORIGINAL show which - last time I checked - is still making new episodes. And now we're getting *four* new movies seemingly right after each other, and it's just... too much. If they spaced this stuff out a little bit more, it'd probably be fine (even if the quality wasn't so hot), but how are they or we or anyone supposed to handle THIS much stuff at once?
I feel bad mostly for the Voice Actor crew to be honest.

Days like this are when I wonder what life would be like if SpongeBob ended in 2004 or 2006.

It should've ended there, but unfortunatly it is Nicks cashcow.
Personally I thought what they should of done with sponge on the run is instead of shamelessly plugging camp coral for a bulk of it and making it so that all the main characters met at one place they could of all had separate stories to how they all met, they obviously wanted to make SpongeBob be the one who rounded up everyone in the friend group (the scene where everyone stuck up for SpongeBob at court telling the judge how much of a good person he is) but they could of still done that even with different character backstories. For example
Squidward was the new neighbour and SpongeBob wanted to help him get settled in to his new home and welcome him to the neighbourhood, SpongeBob ended up annoying squidward as their personalities clash (as we all know) but the help still was appreciated and they end up having the love hate relationship we see these characters having today
Sandy was new to bikinibottom as a whole, she was lost but knew she wanted a career as a scientist which is why she came down, just as she was about to pack up and go back home to Texas but SpongeBob found her and helped her out
Or something like that at least. So SpongeBob can still be the one who helped everyone and bring everyone together. I think they should of focused on character backstory rather than go on about camp coral
I'm calling it now: Sandy's getting her own movie, where SpongeBob learns the true meaning of TEXAS.

Seriously though if you mean sponge on the run as third one it was just boring and horrible I think I remember my mom saying they cared more about who was in it than the actual story.

The SpongeBob Squarepants (2004) Movie will always be a Classic
Sponge on the Run actually released in theaters in America on August 7th. Although I don't remember how long it was in theaters for.
But overall, seven movies is overdoing it, but obviously Nick doesn't care.

Movie released first in Canadian theatres and nowhere else so that’s why the movie didn’t make back it’s budget. Then it released in international territories on Netflix, THEN in came out on Paramount+ just a year ago. Yeah, this movie’s release schedule was kind of a mess to say the least.
I'm calling it now the four movies are gonna be
1. The Patrick movie
2. Camp Coral the Final Week
3. Sponge out of water 2
4. I don't know honestly maybe a movie that is about the first time SpongeBob worked at the Krusty Krab and retcon the first episode Nick already retconned SpongeBob meeting Sandy, Squidward, and Gary I fully expect them to do it again.

The three character driven movies will most likely be about Sandy, Patrick, and Squidward if not Mr Krabs & Plankton because those are very important secondary characters in SpongeBob, however I think at least one of them should be about Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy just because those characters are great and superheroes are still popular. Plus the SpongeBob movies don't really matter to the SpongeBob lore unless you believe the fan theories, so while it may not make sense to do MM & BB over Krabs, Plankton, or Squidward at the end of the day it's just a movie that won't get referenced again on the main show. But let's be real, it'll probably be one of the three I already said or a Kamp Koral movie with a musical as the theatrical release.

It bums me out that people on the internet are saying that SpongeBob should end or that “it should’ve died years ago”. I feel like that’s saying Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse should’ve died. Every show/franchise has its historical ups and downs. SpongeBob is a fun character that a lot of people love. Seasons 5-9 weren’t great, but 10, 11, and 12 have been mostly good, some of the best episodes I ever saw and I’ve been watching SpongeBob since it premiered. I was five years old at the time. my favorite episode of all time premiered 23 years after my first viewing of the show. I don’t expect everyone to like what I like; what’s sad is that people spread misinformation and/or hate about the shows and even the people behind their making.
I think your take is fair and balanced; I’m glad you didn’t just bash the shows and their potential future projects.
A tangent…I think more people should watch Kamp Koral-especially since Kaz, a SpongeBob writer since the beginning-has worked on most if not all of the episodes. But, I get if people don’t like it or don’t feel like checking it out
I don't know how to feel other than that SpongeBob has more than overstayed his welcome now especially since Hillanberg said he didn't want a SpongeBob baby's or a variety show spin off a Nick went ahead and did that anyways.

The whole situation is sadly a reflection of the state of Hollywood as a whole right now. Executives are more focused on propagating what's already a proven success with mainstream audiences than they are taking a risk on a new idea.

WE ALL know that nothing will ever beat the OG classic first movie, as a huge spongebob fan myself I’m always looking forward to what plans they got in the near future.
Honestly I liked the other movies more but as a veteran (27 year old ) SB fan, who remembers promo adds for the pilot episode, I really love when people say “this was my fav (insert movie, episode, character, song)”. In almost every situation there is something that someone finds extra special to them. For me, I have too many to list
Spongebob is amazing and all, (look at my profile pic) but it is sad to me that they're overdoing with all of these spin- offs and excess movies, I'm having a hard time remembering what spongebob is and what he meant to me as I grew up. I can only hope they know what they are doing and that they can deliver.
There’s a very meta moment at the end of the episode Mimic Madness that your comment reminded me of. I think the latest s few seasons of SpongeBob have done a mostly great job bringing back the nautical and indie feel of the earlier seasons, as well as fun and Easter eggs. SpongeBob now is much more in-character than he was from 2005ish to 2014ish

Imagine if Nickelodeon gave anything not SpongeBob even half that much backing and chances. But, the way Nickelodeon treats shows is such a meme for a reason.

I get how people might be getting bored of the same old show, but I would not ruined in with really bad spin offs. I am hoping the movies will be better and I bet they will be. Man, Jay, your videos just get me engaged into anything you talk about. I'm an admirer of the Golden Age of the Spongebob Squarepants show. I don't really like the newer ones, but you made me go like "Holy shit! They're making another one!" as in I prefer the newer ones.

It is becoming increasingly clear that shoving this much Spongebob content down its viewers' throats all at the same time was never about preserving Hillenburg's memory and creation, but rather raking in as much money as possible. I don't know who's behind these contradictory decisions, but it really is a shame to see Nickelodeon wringing the poor sponge dry, down to the last drop.
I'm just going to say it: The first SpongeBob SquarePants movie from the early 2000s is probably the only memorable and greatest SpongeBob movie there has ever been.

I just want news on the Avatar studios projects and hope the Netflix adaptation isn't a repeat of the Shyamalan abomination. Netflix can make good adaptations with Hilda and it's tie in movie Hilda and the Mountain King being the best show and movie I had ever seen. But it's a live action adaptation, the creators leaving the project, and the Shyamalan abomination existence are major red flags and alarm bells.
