- Buggy D. Clown, one of the longest running characters in One Piece, if finally becoming a major part of the plot - and recently announced he wants to become Pirate King. But will this turn out like all of Buggy's other happy failures? Does Buggy have any important connections to the lurking legend?

Theory: “You’ll die if you go on that Island” Disease that Usopp lied about is real with Mihawk and Crocodile catching it when Cross Guild gets close to luaghtale. Buggy doesn’t continue because he afraid to not have his muscle with him to beat the other pirate crews after it, his subordinates see it as Buggy caring more for his crew then the treasure, and Buggy is seen as the one who could have gotten the One Piece first but didn’t like White Beard. Making Buggy the White Beard to Luffy’s Roger.

Buggy D. Clown has the same incurable disease as Go D. Usopp, the "I can't go to that island" disease which is why he will never reach Laugh Tale. The illness seems to be common among extremely powerful entities.

I think it's been confirmed that he dyes his hair, however I do think that when he awakens his devil fruit he could remake the one piece.

Literally the only thing even suggesting he dyes his hair is stampede, a non canon movie where he's just randomly blonde. Considering he had blue hair with blue roots after being in prison for months, his natural hair color is probably blue.
Could be both: mother was a Nefertari (perhaps an outcast member), father was Xebec.
Which brought in the clown genes (perhaps both) will be interesting to learn.

I was thinking the exact same thing. And the story wouldn't even draw attention to it, these nice old folks would just take point in hosting the Straw Hats during their stay at Lodestar while Buggy never stops at the island. Their noses and hair would be the only indicators the reader needs.

Rocks is silhouetted because he's Dragon's father. Garp adopted him to keep his identity secret when he joined the Marines. The Koby storyline tells you the marines dont recruit from notorious criminals and even their families are barred. The entire secret twist is that Luffy is Rocks' blood. This is why Woop Slap asks "is it his dream or his destiny" to be a pirate and why Garp is so insanely against Luffy being a pirate.

I think maybe buggy’s nose can be due to rocks poison if he indeed has a power like that. Maybe in rocks vs roger fight he poisoned roger somehow with his power and thats why roger died. If rocks is buggys father maybe somehow buggy was born with that nose due to it being passed down and it basically being and infinite runny nose gag but idk

If Buggy can't go on to Laughtale because of illness due to magnetism the Cross Guild would have to pick up a hell of a doctor. And didn't Law just lose a serious battle against Blackbeard? And hasn't the Cross Guild made a habit of recruiting ex-Warlords?
Just imagine the scene of Buggy in a wax litter trying and failing to get up to go to Laughtale and all the Crossguild weeping and being stupid and maybe even Mihawk being impressed by Buggy trying to will himself to go forward and then Law just walks in and Rooms it away with Buggy's S-Tier luck stat.
Of course this does focus Blackbeard on the Cross Guild, because he wants the OP Devilfruit.

it is soo possible that he could take advantage of the cross guild, like he did with the marines and W-G. he could also free characters like doffy (unlikely, hold on im going somewhere), or kill a bunch of captains that we've seen, or at least capture them.
we've seen him already have intentions of siding with the world government, and, if he moved up the chain, he could overthrow the celestial dragons..,,,, his dream is world domination, and with them down, potentially with an ally in doffy to infiltrate marygeois, AAAaaa you guys get what i mean? literal genius i love one piece praise oda 🙏😭
The Rocks theory is really fun. Between the charisma comparison, wild hair, and the stretched smile in the silhouettes similar to how Buggy can smile big, too... It's pretty believable. Plus the timeline all lines up, as well.
It's also really in line with how Oda would write Buggy since he's still around, and perfectly wraps up Buggy's character and origin, too. All this time, his luck was really the will of D, and he stumbled ass-backwards through his father's footsteps at every turn. His connections to other great pirates were echoes of his legacy, and he never knew.
My hope is that if this is true, Buggy never finds out and is blissfully unaware of his heritage. I love stuff like that, like Hohenheim being the philosopher of legend in FMA and no one in the story ever found out.
Buggy's heritage probably is gonna get revealed by a character that's still alive today that knows the truth of where he came from

The whereabouts of the Oro Jackson have never been explained, and he's been around probably the third longest out of all of Roger's crew.
I wonder if Oden’s journal might talk about Buggy’s father. If so, the reveal could be shared in a visit to Wano? Perhaps the side plot that has begun on some of the cover stories recently?

I can totally see a scenario where for whatever reason, whether it be an ambush or immediate call to action, that they can’t take all the treasure at laugh tale leading to a comedic moment where Nami is heartbroken she can’t take all of the treasure with her. I can’t see Nami actually ending up hoarding that insane amount of wealth
Two idle thoughts as far as Buggy’s rise goes.
-Buggy IS taking finding Laugh Tale seriously now. While his Falling Upwards trend will still continue, I think One Piece is a story that’ll respect the fact that he’s finally locked in and is going to do what he can.
-‘Pirate King’ is a title that was invented by the media, a status achieved specifically by reaching Laugh Tale and finding the one piece. There technically isn’t anything really stopping multiple people from claiming the title, and we still don’t know what specifically Luffy hopes to achieve with it. The glamour and infamy that comes with the title will suit Buggy well while I think Luffy won’t care all that much for fame or godhood or whatever else as long as he’s managed to do what he needs to. Buggy will be the perfect sort to wear the king’s crown even if Luffy will definitely beat him to Laugh Tale and do the actual most important things a pirate king needs to do.
I’m also interested in what Buggy actually does to find the Poneglyphs, and the fact that his route to finding them will actually be surprisingly smooth besides the fourth one. Former Roger pirates would absolutely be welcomed warmly on Zou and in Wano, Totto Land is an actual mess right now. They’ll be easy pickings and, interestingly enough, the only location-confirmed Road Poneglyph Shanks DIDN’T get from Kidd is Zou’s. Will this be the site of their confrontation?

Buggy is genuinely a decent fighter with great physical strength, as seen in impel down. He uses the blugori axes like they weigh the same as a piece of paper. He was a fighter equal to shanks as an apprentice on Rogers crew.
I think despite him being a joke the vibe is that if he had haki he would be a truly strong fighter. Before haki existed to the audience he was a genuine threat, and only seems like a joke in comparison with the other villains and Luffy. But all he needs is a little haki (which he absolutely does now that his dreams of being pirate king returned) and a devil fruit awakening (also possible). I know nobody likes it, but I'm very convinced that Buggy will be an actual threatening presence end of series. He's an important character. It's not a joke.
I think he just has a bad case of. I-cant-go-on-that-island-itis. And as such always wants to run away from fear while running towards it flashily.

Buggy is Rocks' son, however Rocks was NOT a fraud, he was legimately powerful, the common theme in One Piece isn't to really highlight how biological parent and child are similar, rather it's show how they're DIFFERENT since showing how two genetically related people are different is one Oda's absolute favorite writing decisions.
Oden was a fearless behemoth of a monster even from birth whilst his son Momo was essentially born as a normal kid that had fears most children his age do, Yamato is the child of Kaido yet stands against everything Kaido stands for, Sanji's morals are the polar opposite of his father's morals, though similar to Roger in some aspects Ace's entire story was still about walking his own divergent path, even going as far as to deny the "Gol D." name, Katakuri was a calm leveled protective figure to his family whilst Big Mom was abrasive and often cruel to her family.
Dragon and Garp though similar in some aspects ultimately contrast in the sense that Garp works for the World Government whilst Dragon seeks to tear down the World Government, even with Dragon and Luffy we see a contrasts, Luffy is a brash person who'll jump head first into battle without a plan just to save one singular person close to him, Dragon on the other hand is a calm minded person who only acts when the plan is right, not willing to betray this motto even if someone close to him is taken.
If Garling truly is Shanks' biological father then that'd be another parent-child contrast, so based on this Buggy's father would have to be someone who CONTRAST him, rather some who is the same as him, so that's why it's a better fit if Rocks' was actually super strong, since you'd have Rocks D. Xebec this nigh-allpowerful pirate who rose to fame due to the legimatcy of his insane strength, whilst his son Buggy is a weakling who only became famous thanks to sheer luck.
It's the perfect parent-child contrast to match the already long list of children contrasting their biological parents.

I've always had this thought, and I think it totally measures up! I don't think Rock was some super badass... I think he was a total buggy character! All bark and no bite! There's a reason Whitebeard was Roger's rival, and not Rocks. And then you take that panel from the Manga where the Rocks crew is basically downplaying him. I can't wait to see what comes of this. I love One Piece!

Dope theory, really loved the ending the most, how disappointed Buggy was in Shanks' decision. You framed it so well here. Nice job on your video! A couple of thoughts: Buggy’s parallels with Luffy remind me a little of the Neville Longbottom parallels in the last Harry Potter books. Perhaps the message Roger found had a prophecy as well, with Shanks being the decider of who becomes the next “Joyboy”.

so from what i understand, whoever Buggy's dad was, he hads an hankering for Clussy.
What I find fascinating is that if there turns out to be people actually living on Lodestar, they are literally the closest ones to The One Piece, just casually living next door to possibly the most important thing in the world.
Blackbeards ship being called the Saber of Xebec added to how hard the idea was being pushed, but it it interesting why he would have been not shown in Kumas flashback unless there was a good reason for it. considering how they are probably dead. or we would assume they are.
As for the promise of buggy going to Raftel, maybe some weird twist of events will have him go with luffy. not only giving buggys past closure. but would help give buggy reason to acknowledge luffy as pirate king. which goes back to buggy being the first real villain that told him it was impossible.
and luffy lived up to the meaning of the hat.
it would be quite a heart warming scenario if done right.
My personal belief is that when Shanks made Buggy accidently eat the Devil Fruit, Buggy wasn't upset because he no longer had it to sell, and could no longer swim, in addition, but, rather, he envisioned himself to be the next Gol D. Roger, if not surpass him... meaning, no Devil Fruits. Now, he was cheating, and that dream would never come true.

I've wondered for a while if the reason we haven't heard much about Rocks' specific feats is because he, like Buggy, was weak but surrounded by stronger allies.
Obviously Buggy is gonna swipe the one piece while the Strawhats and Blackbeard Pirates are busy with the ultimate davy back fight on laugh tale.
Makes total sense when you say cross guild is the modern rocks pirates. “Those who don’t understand history and doomed to repeat it”. The World government hides the history of the Rocks pirates from the world, so the world inadvertently creates its own version of it… the cross guild… the combination of very powerful pirates to counter the oppressive World Government by placing bounties on their troops.
Cross Guild aren't modern day version of the Rocks Pirates, they're the comedic INVERSION of Rocks Pirates, they're the Rocks crew but with a comedic element
i always liked that luffy thinks being a pirate is about freedom, and buggy thinks its all about the treasure. both are characters that are driven the most known motivations for pirate characters.
Bro I haven´t even finished the video, but from the moment you mention the meaning and symbolism of Buggy´s weird nose, everything after that is just absolute bangers and makes a TON of sense.

Oh my god, this makes a ton of sense, and in the past I was an apologist towards the theory that Rocks is Teach´s father, but now I am an avid follower of this one. Shanks cried, because what Rodger said was “Buggy D. Clown is my true successor, shanks. You can hold on to my hat though to hide your child like tears of jealousy and rage and grief.” This caused jealousy in Red Haired Shanks. Which is why he never told buggy what his captain had said. This is also why when Buggy wanted to get the treasure Shanks was filled with so much jealousy, he decided to do the exact opposite. Buggy after all these years figured this to be the case, but even so, he didn’t want to go against the wishes of his sworn brother. This is why Buggy has chosen now to go after his treasure, the treasure of the pirate king. Because he sensed with his Observation Haki, that shanks had finally forgiven both Rodger and Buggy.
Conclusion had me emotional. Go make him proud Buggy!
A reveal of Buggy being the one related to Rocks D Xebec, not Blackbeard, would be such an incredible twist. The fandom would shit themselves. Half will with for rage at there debunked fan theories and the other half with love for the best character

Wow, that was a great video, I didn’t expect it to make so much sense but you’ve really sold me on that Rocks theory, if Oda isn’t planning on doing that, he really should consider it because it’s fits so well and has beautiful mirroring .
My headcanon is shanks didn’t go get the one piece yet because of what Luffy said in Sabaody (idk how to spell). “I won’t go on a boring adventure”. If you know where it is it’s boring. If you have a vague memory of where it is from 30 years ago and there are 3-4 other contenders getting close? That’s an adventure
The only theory/future role I would accept about Buggy personally is him being disappointed about the One Piece as well as him acquiring Captain John's treasure.
Buggy was indeed the first villain Luffy faced in the series and from what I remember, Buggy was sent flying by Luffy because Luffy wanted to continue his journey with his precious crew to find the One Piece. As we know, Buggy also wanted to acquire the One Piece that his former mentor, Roger, was talking about but he can't get into the Grand Line yet. Eiichiro Oda interpreted that Buggy failing to reach his dreams and still be living up until this day is worst than being dead. Moreover, Buggy finding the One Piece and become King of the Pirates would never happen.
I think he's a great gag character that Oda ever created but as we know, art is the top priority for Oda.
The Straw-Hats leaving treasure? Nami would never let that slide.
Dawn & Dusk has a theory that Nefertari Lily has the awakened Buggy's fruit. She was the one who cuts the poneglyphs and Kuma's fruit was the one made to spread it all over grandline. Buggy seems to came from Nefertari Bloodline.
My guess is that Croc and Mihawk will ditch Buggy on a slower/sinking ship during a conflict with the marines or Blackbeard and then claim that he "stayed behind to hold them off and ordered them to go on ahead".
Would make Buggy more famous and popular among his crew but still bite him in the ass, especially if Luffy or Shanks end up helping him.

Side note that Drake pic is hilarious especially when you consider all the parallels. Luffy didn't kidnap Vegapunk or actually come up with the plan to assassinate Big Mom, ect while in contrast Buggy is really just a sad jealous man that nobody takes seriously who is destined to believe in his fabricated victory because his unknowing/ignorant fans will continue to find a way to twist the narrative and gas this fraud up, or in other words "You're not a real pirate, you're a peacemain with the hopes of being famous"

I'd like to toss in that there's space for both Luffy and Buggy to be Pirate King in a sense. Luffy wants to be Pirate King but I'm not so sure if he wants to be known as the Pirate King or cares for his role in the JoyBoy prophecy. He doesn't tend to puff out his chest saying "I'm Strawhat Luffy and I'm the best!!" nor does he ever really care who gets credit for the defeating the villain, so I think it'd be fun if Buggy gets credit and Luffy just doesn't care. Also, not hard to convince an unaware populace that the inheritor of the Joy boy prophecy is a literal clown.

The point that Laff tale could affect loadstar islanders could mirror the straw hats using south birds for navigation, maybe Roger used buggy as a reference to where the last island is. The sicker buggy gets the closer you are

Buggy gonna be Luffy's last fight. Think about it, he's actually immune to Shanks physical attacks and is on a collision course with him over the One Piece and the Pirate King title. He's gonna be the one that, somehow, like with Mihawk at Marineford. Probable? Not if we think rationally. But narratively a three way showdown between Shakes, Luffy, and Buggy after they have teamed up to beat Black Beard. Less actual world ending and more three huge personalities clashing for a light hearted closing to the story.
Im convinced that dragon and buggy are long lost brothers. Dragon inherited his father's looks while buggy his mother's. It would add to the fact that one brother tried to execute Luffy while the other one saved him. One wants to save the common people while the other wants fame power and gold. They make a perfect yin and yang.
Awesome vid hidden. Like many people buggy is one of my favorites. I just love when a gag character turns out to be more. Buggys speech was one of my favorite moments in the story.

Buggy is technically the first villain that you can say the Strawhat Pirates fought.
Lodestar citizens being unable to fastpass brute-force their way to Laugh Tale fits perfectly with how the entire planet is designed around the hunt for the One Piece
If this does end up being the case, maybe now that Buggy has spent decades off Lodestar he won’t get sick near the island again therefore can stumble through the final battle like usual
My one hope for Buggy before the end of the series is to awaken his fruit which is a paramecia meaning his awakening would allow him to split the environment around him in addition to himself….buggy can legit split the sky and it’ll be the most hilarious show of fake power in the series. The entirety of the marines would be shook. He just needs to clash with someone like Luffy who isn’t trying to one shot him at that moment.
Calling it now... Rox left Rodger with his kid (a year ago), the same way Dragon left Luffy with Garp. Maybe he was being hunted by the world government or Imu or something like that.
Buggy will find Laugh Tale and he and his crew search the whole island, but the Strawhats have been there before them and taken everything with them (whatever the one piece is, maybe some gold that Nami definitely would have taken). So everything Buggy can find is one single coin. One Piece of Gold.
Everyone in his crew interprets this as Buggy finding the One Piece and that the One Piece is one single coin.

I gotta say, this was a REALLY well but together video man, you did a fantastic job with this one and also the Thumbnail for this video looks incredibly dope, shoutout to whoever the artist is.
There are some minor things I have some disagreements on though, for starters I personally don't think that Buggy was born on Loadstar Island, I think was born on Hachinosu a.k.a Pirate Island, not just because it'd be the most convenient place for him to be born if Rocks truly is his father like I believe, but because thematically and poetically it fits for this to be the place where Buggy was born.
Just like you said Buggy is someone who truly embodies what it means to be a pirate, you have that chapter where Buggy was chastising Mihawk and Crocodile about what being a pirate truly entails, you have the fact that he was born on a pirate ship potentially since baby-hood, he's obsessed with money and loot like a pirate, he likes to party and drink just like a pirate, he has the desire to chase after the ultimate ambition just like a pirate and the to top it off you have the fact that his favourite hobby is literally collecting treasure maps, the most pirate centric thing ever, it doesn't get any more "piratey" than this.
So what better birthplace for someone who truly embodies the spirit of what it means to be a pirate than 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑶𝒇 𝑷𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔, it's almost too poetic to not be the case in my opinion, the 𝐏𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐮.
I have always wanted both Buggy and Usopp to eventually become some of the strongest characters.
It's only Oda's stubborness keeping him from giving us peak.

I really believe the Cross Guild will team up with the Straw Hats and the Red Hair pirates as they reach Laugh Tale because of a bigger threat or whatever and just like Roger did, Shanks and Luffy will laugh but Buggy will be horrified that the treasure isnt actual treasure and that's when he truly awakens.
