The Will of D. is something a lot of folks must agonizie over, but when it's finally revealed, it'll be the greatest D. reveal/pic of all time plus huge ups to Big D. Daks Sake
On the idea of D looking like a smile: I’ve always been torn and thought the D was either meant to resemble a smile OR a half sun/the straw hat itself since with its red band, it looks particularly evocative of a setting or rising sun over the horizon. Whether a smile or the straw hat/sun combo, it’s regardlessly fitting symbolism for this wonderful whacky pirate tale ALSO been noticing the pattern of shouting out smaller creators in your videos of late (whether Daks or Dawn Dusk etc) and it’s great. Very One Piece Nakama vibes in action with content creators learning from and supporting one another
I don't like the idea of the ancient Rocks or Marshall being a Judas figure because it would go against the idea that bloodline isn't important, embodied by people like Sabo. Having people with that initial generally be important is one thing, having specific families take up specific roles over the centuries is another.
I mean, it doesn't have to be a "bloodline trait" and instead an inherited trait. Generations of people that have no qualms about taking what they want and betraying for their own gain teaching their children to live the same way.
@@MorganNull-uj6uu technically he just snitched on him. It was as the legend is told some dude with a pointy stick who did him in. And the pointy end of that stick is apparently supposed to make you invincible now (why didn't it work then huh?)
I think the D in the name is actually a sake cup. We have seen sake in the series being used as a way to bond people together like family. This means everyone with a D in their name was a descendant of a member of this crew. I also think the song Bink's Sake is actually a tale about the void century that is passed on through pirates. About the pirate Binks D (insert name) aka the original Joyboy who Faught to liberate the world, bringing people together under his banner to oppose the powers that tried to enslave the world.

This makes a lot of sense, I’d be happy if this turns out to be true. Also maybe the D symbolized the Straw Hat (in shape), not sure if it’s a stretch but like Jolly Roger it alludes to a crew symbol

The Treasure Tree Adam, The Sunlight Tree Eve, The Tree of Knowledge and if I'm right the 4th tree will be on Elbaf or under IMU's control and the final tree will be the one piece that connects them all saving the world from sinking into the sea.
My favourite theory is that "D" stands for "Don", which: >sounds simillar to "Dawn" >is used as a title (for example: Don Corleone) >is related to drums sound
When I first got into OP years ago I thought "D as a natural enemy of the gods" was just "Devil" but it does feel like a bit too obvious or cliche, but devils are rebels against the gods so for fun I just like to think of D as devil, defector, deserter, defiant, dissident, etc. .. Any such synonym does the trick for what we can currently grasp about Will of D characters, as they are, essentially, rebels from the original establishment of the World Government. I dont necessarily think D stands for any of these, but I do like the particular letter choice from Oda, a letter that represents a smile (:D) and is the first letters of devil (enemy of Gods) or defiance (rebellion) or any of these. It's a multi-layered stylistic choice from his end, and I just can't wait to actually find out what the Will of D is, probably my most anticipated reveal of the OP lore besides what the actual One Piece itself is
@@jacquelinehajj9106 NOW it feels too obvious. I genuinely think “devil” was the original plan but it’s been 30 years of hints and I don’t think Oda could have predicted the internet having such a collaborative effort to figure everything out. Oda probably has changed it from Devil to something else now
I think D might be the initial of a Joyboy crew member who died or sacrificed themself. And since they needed a symbol they chose the D initial in that person's honor.
Oh wow, that makes a lot of sense! It never occurred to me that the One Piece is surfing the deep currents and that is why Roger arrived too soon, whatever the One Piece is was still in the deep currents and still traveling to Laugh Tale. That makes a toon of sense now.
Most carriers of the D. initial might be decoys. The strawhats first wrote the X as the true marker of a crewmate, but they realized that it could be easily replicated when the enemy sees it, so they covered it with the bandage/wrap. Maybe the D initial is the "wrap" for joyboy's allies and there is another secret identifier within certain carriers of the D initial that proves they are either of descent from joyboy's crew/allies, or that they are on luffys side of the D and dawn-bringers (but that also means most of the carriers of D are decoys since they are only the bandage but dont have the X)
"What does the D stand for?" "D" "Yeah, what does it stand for?" "D" "Yeah, what does it stand for?" "D" "Yeah, what does it stand for?" "D!" "Yeah, what does it stand for?" "D!" "Yeah, what does it stand for?" "D! It's stands for Dee! D-E-E"
When you rotate the D leftward, it's the symbol of the Sun symbolizing the new era. When you flip the D on the opposite side, it's the half moon symbolizing the descendants of the Moon people.
I’ve always figured that since Imu said that D. was the symbol that their enemies used that the pass down that letter in the names of their children throughout the generations as a warning and as a message to everyone not to mess with this child because they are strong, so in a way, D. kind of means Dangerous. I’m just surprised the world government hasn’t rounded up and oppressed everyone with the letter D. in their name.
The D is clearly just a smile. It makes sense in my head, the D marks the crew of JoyBoy as the X marks that of Luffy. Put them together and what do you get? 😆
11:27 I've heard that idea before, but in every flashback where Laugh Tale was shown, it was shown as an island above water. While it does make sense, it's just as likely that it's near the back side of reverse mountain and unreachable because of the random currents and possibly random things like whirlpools, which coincides with where the "man with the burn scar" comes in, as he's said to be able to summon whirlpools to sink ships that get near. Meanwhile he might just be an old member of the Roger pirates (including possibly Oden with the burn scar from the pot of oil) guarding both the island and the last poneglyph, since they know where both were and how to navigate there and the whirlpool waters around Wano. Likewise, for all we know Laugh Tale can be in the Floridian Triangle being guarded by those giant shadow creatures, or even right next to Reverse Mountain and unreachable due to the power of the giants and later Shanks keeping people from going past Elbaf, given how devoted the giants are to Nika and possibly information given to Shanks from Roger. Just my shower thoughts. Not dissing on anyone's theory, just trying to clarify and get clarification.
The D. clan simply being descendants of Joyboy’s crew makes SO much sense. I could totally see it being the case, especially considering Lili was associated with the 20 kingdoms, just like how Vivi is associated with Alabasta. Lili, while not a member of Joyboy’s crew, bears the initial D as a symbol of her and Joyboy’s bond and alliance. Just like with Vivi!!! Oda loves parallels, and this one just seems too plausible. But Oda also loves throwing curveballs, so we’ll never actually know until we get there
in light of the recent chapter, wouldn’t it be interesting if after one piece ends, far in the future people refer to the “will of X” or smt similar to reflect luffy’s crew affiliations
I am getting actual goosebumps cause I have a friend with the nickname nika since the early 2000s, that I always used to call the girl of the XD face. She's also a huge luffy fan to this day, and this theory feels like metanarrative now
Ahhh i was telling my friends the same thing today ( the Ds are joyboy's crew , they made this sign so they recognise each other when the time is come , just like in wano those loyal to the Kouzuki Family, even though after Kurozumi Orochi slandered their name have a crescent moon tattooed on their ankles to mark their loyalty yet remain hidden . Same thing is D .
I also like luffy and buggy’s first interaction, “if you’re gonna be pirate king, then I’ll be pirate god!!” Said by buggy, now we know joyboy was named the first pirate and had the same power as sun god nika. But also referring to luffy having the same power as well.
7:58 i like this theory a lot. It works so well for this part imo. After centuries, Imu finally gets confirmation that Lily joined Joyboy's crew or alliance, and took part or helped in the poneglyph plan. Which is still a thorn in Imu's side even now. Imu seems very upset upon getting this confirmation. It's perfect imo
Imu: it's useless mugiwara you don't even know the meaning of your own name. Luffy: Deeeeeeeeez Nuuuuuuuts Imu: *visible confusion* *whispers* "i always thought it was Dwayne"
I am fully 100% on board with the Dave theory. Because I have incredible confidence that the battle foe the One Piece is going to be a Davy Back Fight, and also, most importantly, it standing for Dave is very funny.
A somewhat obscure one piece theorist brought to my attention on an unrelated topic (they were talking about spirits with brook). The word is "duffy/duppy" which is a kind of Caribbean ghost. As soon as I heard that I'm like that fits incredibly well for all members of the D clan. Darkness, misfortune, and lack of luck are associated with them. Also I can't stop thinking about Luffy's full name being Luffy Duffy Monkey.
After watching the new anime episode, I’m more convinced that it is a symbol of friendship/loyalty with the “D” representing the name “Lily.” Oda already plays around with how things are written and pronounced (ex. Raftel = Laughtale), so “D” is probably the first syllable of “Lily” which is how Imu pronounced the name, although the “D” representing a laugh is more probable
On the topic of the deep current, as brook stated. "If you get stuck there you cant see the light of day for 2000 years" What if the lowest point of the deep current is the resting place of joyboy? Or where the one piece is? Perhaps the reason Roger laughed when he reached laughtale was due to the fact that there was a note due to the fact that its stated that the One Piece is a "tangible object", and that note houses the location of Joyboys corpse.
hey man on the internet, i know this is not related at all, but as you have convinced me to rewatch the beginning of op again i noticed kuma’s paw-paw fruit, and that it’s only power is to deflect anything he wants, so really im just curious about the fruit because what would it be able to do if it was awakened? kuma is such an amazingly written character it’s insane
I believe it is the people loyal to the sun god. In Japan, "Nika" is a nonstandard onomatopoeia that means "smiling" or "grinning". It is more commonly spelled as "niko". The rise of the sun god will bring the (D)awn of a new era of laughter. Also the "XD" reference is crazy with the meaning of Nika lol.
I never thought of it like that, but the initial D. would most likely just be D. friends Joy Boy made along the way. I do remember that plenty of us thought the D. itself could just be a symbol related to either the moon, or a smile though. What I didn't realize was how close the X mark could very much parallel what Joy Boy did to associate himself with his friends. It also reminds me of when allies were trying to deliver a secret message in Wano to each other, that Kin'emom messed up on(for the better)
It’s the "Will of Dawn": dawn of a new world, rebirth of a free world, hope for a brighter future. It encapsulates the idea that those who carry the initial "D" are destined to bring about this new era. Like Luffy’s journey to bring about a world where everyone can live freely, unburdened by oppressive forces.
I also think it is relevant to explore the symbols used for the tattoo in Wano, and how everyone understood its meaning to be different than Kin'emon intended, highlighting his supposed "genius" in disguising the mark. We have two instances where one tattoo (3D2Y) is perfectly understood by the Strawhats and one (Wano) where its universally misunderstood. Oda usually does things in sets of threes, so I am expecting the D to fall somewhere on that spectrum of intention/understanding between the D mark's creator and those who bear the D today. The D could mean something very different to the Marshalls and Rocks families.
Hello fellow man on the internet 1: might i be in the video and 2: i have a theory: What if during the final war a straw hat dies but not just any. Luffy is the one to or at least any will of D holder because think about it in act 1 (the start) we see Roger die a D. Afterwards in act 2 during war Ace die. So itd be a natural way to conclude act 3 with the death on yet another D. holder. Plus if Luffy died it would bring some for of peotry to it all since Roger started the age of pirates Luffy would bring forth an age of revolution.
Mate that is such a fantastic idea. Could you imagine if during the final war again emu luffy dies and pulls off a wano move but instead of activating gear 5 it gear sun god Nika or joy boy then it’s a rematch.
I find it really poetic that Otohime risked her life to save Mozgard and died fighting for peace between fishmen and world nobles... With Mozgard risking his life to save her daughter and dying protecting what she fought for. He really brought it full circle and repaid Otohime's kindness.

D.REAM
D.AWN
D.EVIL
D.EEZ NUTZ
Lol wow you made the XD observation I was gonna comment on. I'm big on this idea as well.
I also like luffy and buggy’s first interaction, “if you’re gonna be pirate king, then I’ll be pirate god!!” Said by buggy, now we know joyboy was named the first pirate and had the same power as sun god nika. But also referring to luffy having the same power as well.
Watching grand line review while the sun comes up is an amazing way to start the day
7:58 i like this theory a lot.
Luffy: Deeeeeeeeez Nuuuuuuuts
Imu: *visible confusion* *whispers* "i always thought it was Dwayne"
i agree. it sure consumed me. Our Dog's name is Neko D. Maiko 😂
I am fully 100% on board with the Dave theory. Because I have incredible confidence that the battle foe the One Piece is going to be a Davy Back Fight, and also, most importantly, it standing for Dave is very funny.
The more you keep saying initial D, the louder eurobeat plays in my head, and the vision of the sunny drifting on the sea becomes more vivid
Hey man I’ve been watching you for years I love your videos
Yep.
Damn bro, I used to hate your dad joke type of a script and now I just find myself watching your HxH and One Piece contents
Best intro you've ever done
A somewhat obscure one piece theorist brought to my attention on an unrelated topic (they were talking about spirits with brook). The word is "duffy/duppy" which is a kind of Caribbean ghost. As soon as I heard that I'm like that fits incredibly well for all members of the D clan. Darkness, misfortune, and lack of luck are associated with them. Also I can't stop thinking about Luffy's full name being Luffy Duffy Monkey.
This is 100% the best “D” theory I’ve ever heard.
I absolutely love all the D jokes... Always 😂
God I honestly don't know what I would do without my weekly injections of fictional pirate content. 😢❤😢❤
12:09 bro talks about roger says “speaking about roger…”
inserts Dragon quote😂
I like the "D" standing for "dawn" the coming of the sun.
-Some of the pictures were very Kablam!
-"cavorting" and hundred cigar smoker were top notch
It’s the "Will of Dawn": dawn of a new world, rebirth of a free world, hope for a brighter future. It encapsulates the idea that those who carry the initial "D" are destined to bring about this new era. Like Luffy’s journey to bring about a world where everyone can live freely, unburdened by oppressive forces.
Initial D. Pun unlocked 👌🏾
If Oda didn't plan on finishing One Piece within five years, we'd probably be seeing our first normal poneglyph deep into chapter 500 😂
