This chapter made me so happy. I love Buggy so much but Oda added so much depth to his character with a few panels. Buggy didn’t reject shanks offer to join his crew because he hated him. He did it because he believed in him so much that when he felt like he gave up after Roger’s death, he felt personally offended! Oda never ceases to amaze me. BUGGY FOR PIRATE KING 2023!
Nah. his first reason is he didnt want to be Shank's subordinate. They already stated they didn't want to be each other's subordinate way back when they are still in Roger's ship when Roger still alive.

I mean Mihawk recognized Luffy's most dangerous trait at Marineford as being able to befriend people. Now with the Straw Hat Fleet created & Luffy's awakening, he's earned his title.
And that is what angers me most about the series. My favorite character getting dunked on constantly. For every W he gets, everyone else is getting like 5.
His nickname isn't "Useless Captain Midd" for no reason. Kidd had no respect for the trade. He just showed up everywhere leaving a trail of destruction and just thought himself to be the best while he is just cocky. Mindlessly attacking anything in sight will sooner or later destroy you and Shanks helped accelerating the process.

Man dude, Buggy almost made me cry with that conviction he showed in the chapter. I like how Oda made him not 100% a comedic character, but one with forgotten ambitions who finally had the means to achieve them.
Can't believe a chapter made me cry twice. First hearing that T-Bone had passed, and then seeing Buggy reignite the flames that he once had. Oda is the greatest storyteller of all time.
What's crazy is that Buggy didn't really cared about getting the One Piece but he got pissed that it seemed like Shanks is going for it now after turning down the dream originally in the past. That alone got Buggy to wanting to go for it now just because he feels like Shanks doesn't deserved it. I got to give props to Buggy: Dude admired Roger probably more than anyone
I liked how Mihawk listed Luffy as one of the people he didn't want to get in conflict with. Especially when you consider his first interaction with Luffy was sidestepping him and watching his head get stuck in some wood.
I mean, Mihawk would literally have to carry the entire Cross Guild against Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Jinbei and Robin all by himself. In the mean time Nami deals with Crocodile thanks to Zeus, Usopp with Buggy and Franky and Brook deal with the rest of Cross Guild. It would probably be impossible for Cross Guild to beat the Strawhats in their current state.

The fact buggy stood up to mihawk & crocodile shows he's serious about becoming king, because he was able to overcome his cowardice and now they have to go along to keep benefitting from Cross Guild

This was one of the few times i actually took Buggy seriously. Him revealing that he always believed that Shanks was him and that he was let down by shanks made his character more relatable. I truly believe hes about to talk Mihawk and Crocodile into puruing the One Piece.
I find that so endearing. The fact that buggy of all people checked Mihawk and Crocodile, saying their dreams are too small and that 2 past WARLORDS are doing it wrong. Shit is amazing
I have a feeling that this is the moment where Mihawk realize what he realized with Luffy during Marineford... That Buggy holds the most dangerous power on all the seas. I love this manga, so damn much
It's weird to think that we actually saw the truest examples of both sides of the coin with this chapter. T-bone, a marine so dedicated to protecting people that he wouldn't fight a starving old man who was trying to collect his bounty. And Buggy who took the old man under his protection. He understands the hope, romance and dreams of all those who sail out to be a pirate.
I feel like part of the reason Bugg is so disappointed in Shanks giving up on going after The One Piece is that deep down he feels guilty since it's his fault that Shanks didn't go to Laugh Tale with Rogers.
not a bad take on it, part of me always wished the roles were reversed though and it was Shanks that got sick but that is admittedly just because i always wanted at least one good guy moment out of Buggy 😅
I'm calling it now. Before dying, Roger told Shanks to look for the next Pirate King, and gave him the strawhat and told him the things that person had to match to be "the next one". Shanks got angry/sad because he always believed HE was gonna be "the next one". So Shanks did everything Roger asked, just to, in the end, prove that HE was more fitting for the role than whoever was the chosen. And that's why he wasn't searching for the road poneglyphs untill Luffy became a Yonko, to prove that he could beat his rival just when both of them are in their peak.
I was thinking that since the end of Wano, and this Buggy/Shanks miniflashback made it even more clear to me, so i'm starting to tell everyone and everywhere😂😂
It also fits in with shanks telling Luffy to „give shanks back the straw hat, once Luffy is ready“. Feels like Shanks wants to be crowned by the guy who „supposedly“ is the „next roger“.
okay that would actually be a great twist although slightly dark for one piece, an upbeat yet smart character being just another power hungry guy like all of the villains before.
Buggy finally announcing that he is in the race to find the one piece. It is getting really interesting because we have all the big players making their move after remaining in the shadows for most part of the series
I hadn't even thought about the Mihawk/Zoro angle until you brought it up, but I think you're spot on with that train of thought. In order for Zoro's character arc to reach a conclusion, he was going to eventually have to fight Mihawk. But with so much else happening in this final arc, there were very few opportunities for that to be able to happen organically within the story. But now that Buggy has forcibly put Mihawk in a position of opposition to the Straw Hats, it's only a matter of time until they have to face each other.

When seeing the conversation that Buggy had with Crocodile & Mihawk, and his flashback with Shanks, as well as the speech he had with his followers, I am now starting to think that this is the 1st step towards the Genius Jester's character development which may become as big as Usopp & Momonosuke had!
Buggy just had his Bon Clay, Señor Pink, Bellamy moment, where Oda shows us there not just comedic relief, they're crucial characters to his story, characters that complete the themes and ideals of one piece and give it its insane depth.
The problem with mihawk is, he's stagnating with title world strongest swordsman. No longer training, no longer challenging difficult journey or enemy same level with him. Meanwhile Zoro keep growing stronger.

Crocodile reaction is perfect. In the past, he wanted to be pirate king but failed miserable. After he became a big player in pirate world, escape Impel Down, and rebuild his position, he is yelled by pathetic clown head. And what is the most epic is that Buggy is right. He and Crocodile are very similar characters who give up on their dreams, but when big lizard sat in his big cozy desert Buggy want at least try to claim the title.
It's so funny that we've been joking for maybe a decade or more about how Buggy is going to banana slip his way up the ranks to King of the Pirates. But this was the first time I could legitimately see it in my mind, and his flash back about Shanks was pretty heartbreaking. I think it would be the cherry on top if in the end Buggy has a clash of conqueror's haki with Shanks and wins, we know he'll never win in a real fight but after everything we've seen I would be surprised if Buggy didn't have to will to overcome the sea now.

It would be funny when Caribou is actually working for Buggy and he's going to inform him about the ancient weapons and give a copy of Ruffys Road Porneglyph. That's how Buggy will get in the race with the other emperors again. It makes absolutely sense.
I agree completely. I think most of us assumed Caribou would be feeding the Straw Hats' information to Blackbeard but now that Buggy and the Cross Guild are in the race it would make sense that Caribou goes to them for a great reward.
Buggy standing up against them was fantastic. And I’d like to think, not in a meme way but legit, that all the torture is only accelerating Buggy awakening his Devil fruit and becoming able to stand up against the 2.
The panel where Sengoku asks Tsuru about Garp's whereabouts 100% confirms that he will die fighting BB's crew. Something about Sengoku wanting Garp to taste the new flavor of the rice cookies is pretty telling to me.
When Luffy declares he'll be king of the pirates, that's neat, but it's what the reader is expecting. Buggy's declaration moved me to tears, I was not expecting that. If you'd told me 20 years ago, that I'd one day unironically cheer for Buggy the clown to be king, man. One Piece is wild!😂
Buggy is single-handedly my favourite One Piece character after this chapter. I can't even begin to explain how satisfying it was to see him show Mihawk and Crocodile who's boss. That's why he's the GOAT.
It's a shame that someone of T-Bone's caliber as a human being was wasted on the Marines. He doesn't hold a candle to Fujitora in terms of strength or the willingness to challenge the status quo, but his genuine desire to protect life is something worth admiring. Hell, even Zoro acknowledges him by saying that his justice runs deep, despite mopping the ocean floor with him.
Considering that it was pretty obvious Sabo wasnt dead, his return didnt do much for me. Announcing that he would reveal what happened during the Marigeoise incident is huge. For that same reason chapter 1083 has to be about Marigeoise, cutting away to another scene would feel disingenuous and make the end of 1082 feel redundant

I never liked Buggy. But this chapter.. this chapter was incredible. Buggy suddenly has everything he would need to take over as the Main Character. He was missing something and the Chapter finally gave it to him. An Ambition. He was just living from lie to lie and failed his way to the Top.. now he has showed us Motivation!
Honestly the character growth buggy had this chapter really made him (for me at least) earn the title of emperor of the sea, he might not have power but he has charisma in spades
This chapter for some reason has been the most emotional for some time and the past 3 4 chapters this was really good. Buggy actually some what looking up to Shanks giving up his dream because 1 - He wanted Shanks to become the king of this era and 2 - He knew he couldn't compete with them and now he said ' Naaaah man if he is going now, I will be going after it now ' and stood up to the best swordsmen and one of the smartest characters in the show, made me give instant respect to Buggy. Hell, if he becomes the Pirate King at this point, wouldn't be really mad about it.
I'm thinking something along the lines of intangibility or omnipresent behavior, ghostlike. Meaning because he can separate his structure, he can likely appear everywhere or nowhere all at. Almost God like, which is befitting of his character 🤔
Damn, and here I had Buggy in my Top 5 even before this chapter. This elevated so much of his character, especially with Shanks and how it relates to his east blue moments. Legendary characterization this chapter. Big big rips to T Bone tho, glad you actually realized that T Bone very obviously didn't lose in an actual fight and that he was either caught completely off guard, or willingly did helped.
I’m 100% sure Buggy and Luffy will have a rematch, not only because of their shared history and current positions but because of their personalities and DFs too. Luffy’s pretty much the goofiest in his awakening and it’s shows in his fighting style and constant laughing but Buggy is literally Buggy THE CLOWN. A clown I don’t think it needs explaining but there whole job is to make you laugh. Slightly unrelated too but I have a vague memory of there being a silhouette that looked almost identical to the Joyboy one (when he’s holding the spear) but the silhouette instead looks just like Buggy but I can’t remember where I saw it, im sure it was much earlier on in the manga though (maybe someone in the comments can help because I don’t remember).
My personal idea on how this will play out is that either Blackbeard kills Shanks beforehand or Shanks and Luffy and fighting Blackbeard and losing on Laugh Tale, and Buggy, before claiming the treasure, will turn away and choose to support the man that his captain chose to carry his will, as well as the kid that Shanks put his faith in, and team up with Luffy to beat Blackbeard. It would be so poetic for Buggy to finally drop his idea of running away and choose to help over just claiming the prize.

Remember mihawk and crocodile still are the main ones. So interesting what they have planned for it. So yeah I know it's buggy's idea but let's be real mihawk and crocodile are the real ones. The real leader of buggys crew.
Oda is paving the way for Buggy to awaken his conquers haki and be the person he was meant to be if Roger lived, and he continued sailing on the Grandline and in the New World.
What if the reason Roger and the crew laughed at Laughtale is because Buggy was the one that was meant to find the one piece, so they laughed because he was the odd one out that stayed on the ship. Left field guess.
Theory time! Buggy will be the Prater king after all is said and done. Roger named the island laugh tale because of the story the one piece told. About how joy boy would return and bring the dawn to the world and the mess will be cleaned up and consolidated by a literal clown. Everyone who witnessed the one piece knew exactly who the clown was, this is why they found it humorous. It's the same reason that Roger only told shanks about it and why shanks refused to adventure with Buggy. They didn't want to interfere with fate. But everywhere luffy goes he brings the dawn and frees the people in a destructive manor. Buggy is always behind him consolidating the power gap left behind and restructuring things in a way that works. Buggy always benefits from luffys endeavors. He's a being so powerful that he could get the likes of Mihawk and crocodile to work together under him, not only that he vibe checked their ideals. Also during the paramount war white beard sparred Buggy and formed that alliance, not because he could use the help from any of the fodder Buggy brought with him, but because Roger told white beard of the laugh tale and he knows that the silly clown plays an important role. Joy boy is the bringer of dawn and enforcer of freedom never meant to rule but to be free, the silly clown just has to clean up his mess in the end as the ruler of the sea
With the last Road Ponegliph being on a constantly moving ship, it's likely that once the Egghead Island arc is over, there will be a mad race to see which Youkou finds him first.
Per Blackbeard’s MO, he’ll probably wait for the Straw Hats, Red Hair Pirates, and Cross Guild to exhaust each other before swooping in to steal the Poneglyph at the last moment. (Or perhaps Buggy has the same plan in mind and will steal the Poneglyph from BB instead)
Thinking about it more, We all thought Buggy's Dream/Desire was to be Rich but with this chapter it's now more his back up plan when he gave up on his real dream which had been ruined by Shanks & the reason he "hates" Shanks for the treasure map incident was because yet again Shanks ruined another dream for him
I'm just very hyped for this last leg of the story. Our new generation of emperors, now in an active race to the pirate king title. No sitting around, no more waiting for a yonko to get weakened, just all of them straight up gunning for the title without hesitation.

This was the chapter in which Buggy the Clown actually had a lot of character growth, and I'm here for it. I think the Battle of Laughtale will be Cross Guild vs Straw Hat Pirates.

I think Laughtale would see all four Emperors, strawhats, red hair, blackbeard, and cross guild arrive at the same time in a massive war. Luffy and shanks finally meet here and zoro finally fights mihawk. I feel like that would be so epic and it seems wete going towards that path, with both shanks and buggy now on the path for the one piece
And with Buggy being a former Roger pirate, this is not empty talk. You could even say, he's the most experienced pirate of his crew. And it's well within the realm of possibility he already knows how to get to Laugh Tale, might even have all the rubbings in his drawer. Though Shanks didn't seem to have them, so perhaps neither does Buggy. It'll be interesting to see how much do they know.
I think buggy seeing doubt in shanks broke him. His dreams went from the top to petty greed. He probably kept tabs on shanks and seeing shanks finally make moves for the one piece revived his old dreams
I'm glad the chapter more clearly depicts mihawks power, where it's not the prospect of any one person, but the entire crews that he literally has to equal, just based upon his reaction he seems to be the only heavy hitter in cross guild and realistically, maybe he could take shanks or Luffy in a 1v1, but the entire crew?
The real question is, does Mihawk even want to be a pirate? He just wants to do a swordsman and do sword stuff, Buggy just dragged him into the race, and with him not caring at all about anything he’ll probably just accept Mihawk does not need Buggy at all, he just wants Cross Guild to be more chill

Buggy really showed his buggy balls this chapter, took crocodile and Mihawk to school, threw his hat into the pirate king race and showed us all he’s got more than jokes up his sleeve
I love that Buggy was given a lot of credibility in this chapter. I also hope he levels up soon and gets some form of future sight haki, because then he can literally be a hard counter to Mihawk.

Of all the people who rivaled Luffy's dream whether to be the pirate king or rule the whole world, Buggy seems to be the strongest contender, he's legit with his dreams.
I’ve felt buggy was exactly this way since I found out he was on the pirate kings crew. That was the moment I realized he was intentionally miss portrayed on purpose by oda to throw us off.

I'm shocked, amazed, and appalled that you didn't comment on the "Making you the figurehead was the obvious choice, Chairman Buggy!" line, given Buggy's situation, being a figurehead for Mihawk and Crocodile who teamed up with him because they viewed him as the obvious choice as a fiigurehead. Really, that one panel perfectly sums up Buggy's position in the world at the start of the chapter. being massively blown out of proportion by others, while being used as a figurehead, all while he looks on in abject shock and fear. This is the type of thing you usually pounce on in these videos...
this chapter immieditly blown away all my "buggy is the only joke yonkou" thinking. Buggy has shown everyone that he deserving his title as one of the emperor of the sea. A king sometimes doesn;t need to be the strongest or smartest but the one that can push all his force to keep moving forwards to achieve their end goal.
Now when Cross Guild is in the race they are the only Yonko crew without any Road Poneglyph. So I think after Egghead somehow Straw Hat crew will divide into two groups. Luffy leading one and Zoro leading other and Cross Guild will attack Zoro's group and Mihawk defeats Zoro 2nd time and takes their road Poneglyphs before Mihawk and Zoro's final match. Like Luffy looses to his opponent multiple times before defeating him.
I said the same thing about Buggy's declaration panel... Buggy's always been one of my favorite characters. I started in Orange Town and my ride has been falling up with Buggy. Holy shit, Oda's setting up the end so powerfully.
Luffy at Lougetown has gotta be considered a great speech ! Barto went the whole 3 years (timeskip included) wanting to serve him all because of that moment !!
Its a stark reminder of how cutthroat the world of One Piece really is. Glad to see Oda is letting us know everything isnt as cut and dry again (Koala's entire story 😢)

I liked how Mihawk listed Luffy as one of the people he didn't want to get in conflict with. Especially when you consider his first interaction with Luffy was sidestepping him and watching his head get stuck in some wood.
Well he is the peaceful type of person, he probably doesn't want a cartoon version of Luffy mocking him with his imagination 😂
I mean, Mihawk would literally have to carry the entire Cross Guild against Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Jinbei and Robin all by himself.
In the mean time Nami deals with Crocodile thanks to Zeus, Usopp with Buggy and Franky and Brook deal with the rest of Cross Guild.
It would probably be impossible for Cross Guild to beat the Strawhats in their current state.

This was one of the few times i actually took Buggy seriously. Him revealing that he always believed that Shanks was him and that he was let down by shanks made his character more relatable. I truly believe hes about to talk Mihawk and Crocodile into puruing the One Piece.
I find that so endearing. The fact that buggy of all people checked Mihawk and Crocodile, saying their dreams are too small and that 2 past WARLORDS are doing it wrong.

It's weird to think that we actually saw the truest examples of both sides of the coin with this chapter. T-bone, a marine so dedicated to protecting people that he wouldn't fight a starving old man who was trying to collect his bounty. And Buggy who took the old man under his protection. He understands the hope, romance and dreams of all those who sail out to be a pirate.
I feel like part of the reason Bugg is so disappointed in Shanks giving up on going after The One Piece is that deep down he feels guilty since it's his fault that Shanks didn't go to Laugh Tale with Rogers.

I'm calling it now. Before dying, Roger told Shanks to look for the next Pirate King, and gave him the strawhat and told him the things that person had to match to be "the next one". Shanks got angry/sad because he always believed HE was gonna be "the next one". So Shanks did everything Roger asked, just to, in the end, prove that HE was more fitting for the role than whoever was the chosen. And that's why he wasn't searching for the road poneglyphs untill Luffy became a Yonko, to prove that he could beat his rival just when both of them are in their peak.

It is getting really interesting because we have all the big players making their move after remaining in the shadows for most part of the series
I hadn't even thought about the Mihawk/Zoro angle until you brought it up, but I think you're spot on with that train of thought. In order for Zoro's character arc to reach a conclusion, he was going to eventually have to fight Mihawk. But with so much else happening in this final arc, there were very few opportunities for that to be able to happen organically within the story. But now that Buggy has forcibly put Mihawk in a position of opposition to the Straw Hats, it's only a matter of time until they have to face each other.

Crocodile reaction is perfect. In the past, he wanted to be pirate king but failed miserable. After he became a big player in pirate world, escape Impel Down, and rebuild his position, he is yelled by pathetic clown head. And what is the most epic is that Buggy is right. He and Crocodile are very similar characters who give up on their dreams, but when big lizard sat in his big cozy desert Buggy want at least try to claim the title.
I think deep down, buggy wanted to be in shanks' crew and to make him king, and Shanks' hesitation was the ultimate betrayal

It's so funny that we've been joking for maybe a decade or more about how Buggy is going to banana slip his way up the ranks to King of the Pirates. But this was the first time I could legitimately see it in my mind, and his flash back about Shanks was pretty heartbreaking. I think it would be the cherry on top if in the end Buggy has a clash of conqueror's haki with Shanks and wins, we know he'll never win in a real fight but after everything we've seen I would be surprised if Buggy didn't have to will to overcome the sea now.

I agree completely. I think most of us assumed Caribou would be feeding the Straw Hats' information to Blackbeard but now that Buggy and the Cross Guild are in the race it would make sense that Caribou goes to them for a great reward.

When Luffy declares he'll be king of the pirates, that's neat, but it's what the reader is expecting. Buggy's declaration moved me to tears, I was not expecting that. If you'd told me 20 years ago, that I'd one day unironically cheer for Buggy the clown to be king, man. One Piece is wild!😂
Buggy is single-handedly my favourite One Piece character after this chapter. I can't even begin to explain how satisfying it was to see him show Mihawk and Crocodile who's boss. That's why he's the GOAT.

It's a shame that someone of T-Bone's caliber as a human being was wasted on the Marines. He doesn't hold a candle to Fujitora in terms of strength or the willingness to challenge the status quo, but his genuine desire to protect life is something worth admiring. Hell, even Zoro acknowledges him by saying that his justice runs deep, despite mopping the ocean floor with him.

Considering that it was pretty obvious Sabo wasnt dead, his return didnt do much for me. Announcing that he would reveal what happened during the Marigeoise incident is huge. For that same reason chapter 1083 has to be about Marigeoise, cutting away to another scene would feel disingenuous and make the end of 1082 feel redundant

I never liked Buggy. But this chapter.. this chapter was incredible. Buggy suddenly has everything he would need to take over as the Main Character. He was missing something and the Chapter finally gave it to him. An Ambition. He was just living from lie to lie and failed his way to the Top.. now he has showed us Motivation!
Honestly the character growth buggy had this chapter really made him (for me at least) earn the title of emperor of the sea, he might not have power but he has charisma in spades
This chapter for some reason has been the most emotional for some time and the past 3 4 chapters this was really good. Buggy actually some what looking up to Shanks giving up his dream because 1 - He wanted Shanks to become the king of this era and 2 - He knew he couldn't compete with them and now he said ' Naaaah man if he is going now, I will be going after it now ' and stood up to the best swordsmen and one of the smartest characters in the show, made me give instant respect to Buggy. Hell, if he becomes the Pirate King at this point, wouldn't be really mad about it.
I also wonder how Buggy will look like with his awakened DF. There's no way he's made it this far without a trick up his sleeve.
I'm thinking something along the lines of intangibility or omnipresent behavior, ghostlike. Meaning because he can separate his structure, he can likely appear everywhere or nowhere all at. Almost God like, which is befitting of his character 🤔

I’m 100% sure Buggy and Luffy will have a rematch, not only because of their shared history and current positions but because of their personalities and DFs too. Luffy’s pretty much the goofiest in his awakening and it’s shows in his fighting style and constant laughing but Buggy is literally Buggy THE CLOWN. A clown I don’t think it needs explaining but there whole job is to make you laugh.
Slightly unrelated too but I have a vague memory of there being a silhouette that looked almost identical to the Joyboy one (when he’s holding the spear) but the silhouette instead looks just like Buggy but I can’t remember where I saw it, im sure it was much earlier on in the manga though (maybe someone in the comments can help because I don’t remember).

My personal idea on how this will play out is that either Blackbeard kills Shanks beforehand or Shanks and Luffy and fighting Blackbeard and losing on Laugh Tale, and Buggy, before claiming the treasure, will turn away and choose to support the man that his captain chose to carry his will, as well as the kid that Shanks put his faith in, and team up with Luffy to beat Blackbeard. It would be so poetic for Buggy to finally drop his idea of running away and choose to help over just claiming the prize.
After this chapter, there is no longer any doubt that Buggy is going to be the king of the pirates.

Buggy will be the Prater king after all is said and done. Roger named the island laugh tale because of the story the one piece told. About how joy boy would return and bring the dawn to the world and the mess will be cleaned up and consolidated by a literal clown. Everyone who witnessed the one piece knew exactly who the clown was, this is why they found it humorous. It's the same reason that Roger only told shanks about it and why shanks refused to adventure with Buggy. They didn't want to interfere with fate. But everywhere luffy goes he brings the dawn and frees the people in a destructive manor. Buggy is always behind him consolidating the power gap left behind and restructuring things in a way that works. Buggy always benefits from luffys endeavors. He's a being so powerful that he could get the likes of Mihawk and crocodile to work together under him, not only that he vibe checked their ideals. Also during the paramount war white beard sparred Buggy and formed that alliance, not because he could use the help from any of the fodder Buggy brought with him, but because Roger told white beard of the laugh tale and he knows that the silly clown plays an important role. Joy boy is the bringer of dawn and enforcer of freedom never meant to rule but to be free, the silly clown just has to clean up his mess in the end as the ruler of the sea
With the last Road Ponegliph being on a constantly moving ship, it's likely that once the Egghead Island arc is over, there will be a mad race to see which Youkou finds him first.
Per Blackbeard’s MO, he’ll probably wait for the Straw Hats, Red Hair Pirates, and Cross Guild to exhaust each other before swooping in to steal the Poneglyph at the last moment. (Or perhaps Buggy has the same plan in mind and will steal the Poneglyph from BB instead)
Thinking about it more, We all thought Buggy's Dream/Desire was to be Rich but with this chapter it's now more his back up plan when he gave up on his real dream which had been ruined by Shanks & the reason he "hates" Shanks for the treasure map incident was because yet again Shanks ruined another dream for him
I really like the idea of Zoro fighting Mihawk for both his and Luffy's dreams. It would solidify him as Luffy's biggest supporter.

I think Laughtale would see all four Emperors, strawhats, red hair, blackbeard, and cross guild arrive at the same time in a massive war. Luffy and shanks finally meet here and zoro finally fights mihawk.
I feel like that would be so epic and it seems wete going towards that path, with both shanks and buggy now on the path for the one piece
Buggy really leveled up as a character in this chapter. Talk about a guy who never lets an opportunity go to waste.
And with Buggy being a former Roger pirate, this is not empty talk. You could even say, he's the most experienced pirate of his crew. And it's well within the realm of possibility he already knows how to get to Laugh Tale, might even have all the rubbings in his drawer.
Though Shanks didn't seem to have them, so perhaps neither does Buggy. It'll be interesting to see how much do they know.
I think buggy seeing doubt in shanks broke him. His dreams went from the top to petty greed. He probably kept tabs on shanks and seeing shanks finally make moves for the one piece revived his old dreams
I'm glad the chapter more clearly depicts mihawks power, where it's not the prospect of any one person, but the entire crews that he literally has to equal, just based upon his reaction he seems to be the only heavy hitter in cross guild and realistically, maybe he could take shanks or Luffy in a 1v1, but the entire crew?

The real question is, does Mihawk even want to be a pirate? He just wants to do a swordsman and do sword stuff, Buggy just dragged him into the race, and with him not caring at all about anything he’ll probably just accept

My favorite part of the chapter was when mihawk was naming the emperors and asking him do you really want to go against these men and luffy name showed up. It shows the he acknowledged luffy and I was like my man luffy getting the respect now

The liine which hit me was "You are not next Generations King? Don't you care about following Captain Rogers footsteps?" Man buggy really believed in shanks but felt betrayed because of miscommunication. Kinda reminds me of Luffy and Ussops arguement during water7.
Buggys as flashy as ever. A true protege of the former pirate king. His speech even made me wanna set sail and find the one piece. Mihawk and crocodile lost points this chapter, its clear they need him to go anywhere
Buggy really showed his buggy balls this chapter, took crocodile and Mihawk to school, threw his hat into the pirate king race and showed us all he’s got more than jokes up his sleeve

I love that Buggy was given a lot of credibility in this chapter. I also hope he levels up soon and gets some form of future sight haki, because then he can literally be a hard counter to Mihawk.

Of all the people who rivaled Luffy's dream whether to be the pirate king or rule the whole world, Buggy seems to be the strongest contender, he's legit with his dreams.

I’ve felt buggy was exactly this way since I found out he was on the pirate kings crew. That was the moment I realized he was intentionally miss portrayed on purpose by oda to throw us off.
I’ve never loved buggy’s character but after this chapter I’ve done a 180, that panel is engraved in my heart, and I love the Mihawk being scared of Zoro headcanon, exactly what I thought as well
I'm shocked, amazed, and appalled that you didn't comment on the "Making you the figurehead was the obvious choice, Chairman Buggy!" line, given Buggy's situation, being a figurehead for Mihawk and Crocodile who teamed up with him because they viewed him as the obvious choice as a fiigurehead.
Really, that one panel perfectly sums up Buggy's position in the world at the start of the chapter. being massively blown out of proportion by others, while being used as a figurehead, all while he looks on in abject shock and fear.
This is the type of thing you usually pounce on in these videos...
But buggy is not a figurehead now..he's literally their leader..mihawk and crocodile can't do anything against his decisions now

What are the odds that Buggy gets one shot shortly after this, but his crew keeps going in his name forcing croc and mihawk forward
this chapter immieditly blown away all my "buggy is the only joke yonkou" thinking. Buggy has shown everyone that he deserving his title as one of the emperor of the sea. A king sometimes doesn;t need to be the strongest or smartest but the one that can push all his force to keep moving forwards to achieve their end goal.
Now when Cross Guild is in the race they are the only Yonko crew without any Road Poneglyph. So I think after Egghead somehow Straw Hat crew will divide into two groups. Luffy leading one and Zoro leading other and Cross Guild will attack Zoro's group and Mihawk defeats Zoro 2nd time and takes their road Poneglyphs before Mihawk and Zoro's final match. Like Luffy looses to his opponent multiple times before defeating him.
Buggy is smarter than most people are willing to admit. Sprinkle in luck and charisma, and you got a good leader.
