The black fleet crisis was such an interesting concept. Even the side stories that Luke and Lando had just fit the mysterious vibe the books gave off. The whole trilogy weird, but weird in a good way lol.
I personally appreciate that you found the best parts of the trilogy and put it into a bite sized video as the Black Fleet Crisis wasn't my favourite of the Bantam era books, but I always found the idea of the Duskon League and Yevetha interesting.

I just finished reading the Blackfleet Crisis and wanted to know more about it and the Yevetha, and you have the only video about it. Glad I found your channel, I’ve been binging over the last few weeks.
I always really liked the Black Fleet Crisis as a general sequence of events, because it was as much a political struggle as a military one. I think it would have been wise for the Sequel Trilogy to have used the basic matchup as the baseline of their story, potentially replacing the Duskhan League with the First Order and so forth. Basically - mysterious new threat has been hidden, New Republic could totally take them if they could get their act together, but the villains have engaged in political manipulation as well as military preparation (making it look like Leia is a warmonger picking a fight with them, not the other way round) to show off how the New Republic works and its strengths and weaknesses in contrast to both the Empire and the original Republic. All the action and thrills you need and, best part, no Death Star ripoffs required.
The Black Fleet was indeed a fun little thing to add that I wish was still in canon. The Imperial Navy is large and spread out which would no doubt fall into the hands of someone else other than the New Republic or Imperial Remnant. Allowing a whole new faction to come up. I do recall that in canon pirates had a SSD in the Shattered Empire novels which is interesting, but it never really went anywhere. It was more along the lines of a side story that I wish would've grown and had an impact on the story itself.
The Black Fleet Crisis was one of my favourite parts of Legends. My favourite part is the slow revelation of the discovery of Gnisnal, the crew checking the computer core, that information being sent to Ayddar Nylykerka (lol i got his name right from memory!) and his discovery of the Black Fleet, Ayddar breaking into Ackbar's house and risking his life to give the information and then Drayson and Ackbar talking over the discovery, implications and what they ought to do next while out on the running track. It's just people talking in scenes, no action and given to the mundanities of life but I like it's buildup. I think Black Fleet should have got a one off follow up where they return as more a terrorist force that both the New Republic and Imperial Remnant have to deal with, their imprisonment on N'Zoth hardening them and giving the alternate dynamic to the traditional small Rebel group vs large Galactic Empire. I really wanted to see the Intimidator go all out in a battle against the Lusankya.
Many reckon the Luke and Lando plots can be a bit frustrating though. I guess if you know going in that Luke WON'T find out about his mother (pre prequels) that might help.
I rather enjoyed the trilogy. I agree that the Luke and Akhana plot was boring and rather painful to get through. But I found myself surprisingly loving the Lando subplot with the Vagabond. I think that is what I enjoyed the most. Not a whole lot really happens, but it was enjoyable.
It was said that of the surviving Duskhan League ships, 4 Victory Star Destroyers joined Daala in the Deep Core, several ships including weapons test bed EX-F joined Pellaeon, the Pride of Vevetha was scuttled, and the rest joined the New Republic.
Ive personally always enjoyed the fact that imperial splinter groups existed and sometimes helped the new republic, I personally think that these groups became like the mandolorians and were so committed to the war life style that even after the fall of the empire being imperial troops was the only thing they knew to do even if they didn’t serve the empire anymore
A new idea for galactic versus: STAR WARS 2M Saber tank vs. HALO Skorpion tank(whatever type you want) vs. COMMAND AND CONQUER GDI Mammoth MK III I'd love to see which of theese tanks comes out on top.
I liked the Black Fleet Crisis in idea, but the execution was really lacking in a lot of specific ways. One of the big ones is that none of the new ships are described or on the covers, so it's really hard to become attached to them. Another issue is the fact that nearly every named pilot or crewmember (especially the K-Wing pilots) are killed off by the end of the trilogy, leaving no real connection to the Fifth Fleet. If McDowell had left even one or two members alive, they could have been like the X-Wing characters - working their way up the ranks to become later Admirals and Generals. A'baht, the only high ranking officer who is important in the series, does survive, and is important later, but I would have loved to see Miranda Doni, Skids, or any of the other K-Wing jockeys survive.

I remember the Black Fleet Crisis books. Good ideas - I even liked the side-adventures; Lando in an organic ship and Luke meeting the Fallannassi - but the books themselves were too dry for me.
The Yevetha were one of the coolest and darkest parts of Star Wars. While the Black Fleet Crisis books themselves may not be all that tremendous, especially when compared to the cream of the crop (New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force, X-Wing, Jedi Academy Trilogy, Thrawn Trilogy, pretty much anything by Timothy Zhan) the story itself was an interesting one and it was a refreshing breath of fresh air after having been subjected to Darth this and Grand Admiral that for like 15 books straight. And it was quite the excitement to see a TRULY evil (in that ugly and unthinkable sense) threat, something you could relate with at the time (Rwanda, Bosnia, Burma, all that was happening around that time). I would love to see the Yevetha come back at some point, they make for a great inspiration for storytelling.

Antoni Sauren the sorranan battle cruiser was destroyed in the core I believe which was the only named class of the two battle cruiser they weren't dreadnoughts
Concept definitely topped execution but IMO that makes them prime for a new cannon reimagingng. A solid mid level threat with a unique aethetic and not galaxy rending in thier impact. The idea of a species that colonised 18 planets without hyper-drives is awesome.
Hey Eck, two things. After watching your quick video on the Last Jedi it made me reconsider how i felt about the new saga. I re-watched both episode 7 and 8 and have to say you are pretty spot on about the 8th movie unfortunately... My proposition for videos today are as follows. I would love for you to talk about the in universe science behind a hyperspace ram and if it is indeed possible to ram 1 let alone several ships through hyperspace. My second idea is for a new series. I would love for you to take an iconic "supercapital" ship like the eclipse, give it a small escort fleet and pin it against a fleet that would leave the playing field even. The fleet make up and size would be completely up to you; whatever you feel stands a chance against the super's. I personally would love to see videos like this because they would help me understand the power of these supercapital ships and I have a feeling you would have very interesting fleet composition and dialog
The super class actually isn’t an executor, it’s a much smaller star dreadnought at 8km with about 1000 weapons emplacements, this was to allow the executor to be 19km as most sources put the executor between 8 and 12.8km
I started book 3 before realizing i had no clue what was happening because it was the 3rd of a series. So here i am trying to pick up back story. I am not accustomed to doing things that make sense. :P
Vader's Task Force (V) vs Quarian Flotilla (Mass Effect) The most problematic thing in determening the result of such a battle is the strenght of each universum weaponry. I recommend to assume that ME weapon systems of similar size to SW counterparts should do 75% of SW weapon's damage. If you take a look at damage values of slugthrowers in Star Wars EotE/EotR RPG, you can see that generally slugthrowers of similar sizes to blaster counterparts do slightly more then 50% damage of plasma based weaponry. I guess putting gauss based weapons in the middle of it (75%) is fair. Also, I believe that ME lasers should go through Star Wars shielding, as shields do not block star light, so they should be ineffective against weaponised lasers. On the other hand, ME kinetic weapons should be worthless against blaster fire, as we know that plasma based reaper's beams go through kinetic barriers.
Eckert's ladder I have some information to tell you the yevethan race called the daukhon League captured with the black sword Fleet was somehow exterminated by the Klingon empire. the Klingons used the same black Fleet in the four years war with the United federation of planets.
On certain levels, the idea of the "Black Fleet" could have been interesting, but as what was really the issue of so much of the Legends storyline is that if the Yvetha were such a potential threat to the grander galaxy and had an entire Imperial Fleet at their command... they really didn't evolve as one. A lot of what went into the Black Fleet crisis was that the Yvetha despite being "threatening" and had this powerful fleet since the Battle of Endor... they decided to become extreme isolationists after that point. In that if the Yvetha were isolationist, while the New Republic could and should provide some measure of monitoring the general area, they shouldn't have been portrayed as both isolationist AND a threat... Yet for very little reasons, the Yvetha suddenly became a threat for the "Black Fleet Crisis" because at that point in Legends, Star Wars needed a bad guy. In this the writers needed someone for the bad guys to fight and simply provided one and gave an explanation as to why such a powerful force and threat was never noticed prior...

I really wonder why the Supremacy did not have gravity well projectors? The answer is the plot but the gravity well projectors might have saved the Supremacy from its destruction. Also, the gravity well projectors just seem more useful than the hyperspace tracker. Both have a similar role of stopping ships from escaping. The Gravity well projectors stop ships from entering hyperspace. While Hyperspace tracker allows for constant pursuit of a ship even when they enter hyperspace. The Hyperspace tracker weakness is when multiple ships jump to different places, the Supremacy can not follow all of the ships. Just seems more practical to stop ships from entering hyperspace in the first place. If the Supremacy had The gravity well projectors, there is no use for a hyperspace tracker. Other dreadnoughts like Sovereign-class and Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyers both used gravity well projectors. It’s also alarming that not a single First order ship so far have a gravity well projector. The Interdictor-class Star Destroyer and Immobilizer 418 cruiser were both great ships from the imperial Navy and were effective against Guerrilla warfare.

I mean like the wedge shape of star destroyers. Because I'm working on star ships myself for my space rpg and wanted ships that have great fire sight, minimum blind spot, and practical. Example: is a star destroyers' wedge shape a better design the a long broadside ship design off halo. You have amazing insight on these kind of things and wanted your input. I didn't love this trilogy, but I did like how the Imperials stole all their ships back at the end.

Lando plot is decent mystery/archeological story with best Lobot parts you can find anywhere in legends.

Thrawn's Revenge truly is great in that it sheds light on some really interesting storylines.

Antoni Sauren the sorranan battle cruiser was destroyed in the core I believe which was the only named class of the two battle cruiser they weren't dreadnoughts
Antoni Sauren The 3rd SSD was unnamed and was not completed. It was likely scrapped by the New Republic.

It was a neat story in concept but I did not find the battles to be very well written and the overall story was kinda slow. Still worth a look though.
Concept definitely topped execution but IMO that makes them prime for a new cannon reimagingng. A solid mid level threat with a unique aethetic and not galaxy rending in thier impact.
The idea of a species that colonised 18 planets without hyper-drives is awesome.
Hey Eck, two things. After watching your quick video on the Last Jedi it made me reconsider how i felt about the new saga. I re-watched both episode 7 and 8 and have to say you are pretty spot on about the 8th movie unfortunately... My proposition for videos today are as follows. I would love for you to talk about the in universe science behind a hyperspace ram and if it is indeed possible to ram 1 let alone several ships through hyperspace. My second idea is for a new series. I would love for you to take an iconic "supercapital" ship like the eclipse, give it a small escort fleet and pin it against a fleet that would leave the playing field even. The fleet make up and size would be completely up to you; whatever you feel stands a chance against the super's. I personally would love to see videos like this because they would help me understand the power of these supercapital ships and I have a feeling you would have very interesting fleet composition and dialog

The super class actually isn’t an executor, it’s a much smaller star dreadnought at 8km with about 1000 weapons emplacements, this was to allow the executor to be 19km as most sources put the executor between 8 and 12.8km

The most problematic thing in determening the result of such a battle is the strenght of each universum weaponry. I recommend to assume that ME weapon systems of similar size to SW counterparts should do 75% of SW weapon's damage.
If you take a look at damage values of slugthrowers in Star Wars EotE/EotR RPG, you can see that generally slugthrowers of similar sizes to blaster counterparts do slightly more then 50% damage of plasma based weaponry. I guess putting gauss based weapons in the middle of it (75%) is fair.
Also, I believe that ME lasers should go through Star Wars shielding, as shields do not block star light, so they should be ineffective against weaponised lasers.
On the other hand, ME kinetic weapons should be worthless against blaster fire, as we know that plasma based reaper's beams go through kinetic barriers.

On certain levels, the idea of the "Black Fleet" could have been interesting, but as what was really the issue of so much of the Legends storyline is that if the Yvetha were such a potential threat to the grander galaxy and had an entire Imperial Fleet at their command... they really didn't evolve as one.
A lot of what went into the Black Fleet crisis was that the Yvetha despite being "threatening" and had this powerful fleet since the Battle of Endor... they decided to become extreme isolationists after that point. In that if the Yvetha were isolationist, while the New Republic could and should provide some measure of monitoring the general area, they shouldn't have been portrayed as both isolationist AND a threat...
Yet for very little reasons, the Yvetha suddenly became a threat for the "Black Fleet Crisis" because at that point in Legends, Star Wars needed a bad guy. In this the writers needed someone for the bad guys to fight and simply provided one and gave an explanation as to why such a powerful force and threat was never noticed prior...

I really wonder why the Supremacy did not have gravity well projectors? The answer is the plot but the gravity well projectors might have saved the Supremacy from its destruction. Also, the gravity well projectors just seem more useful than the hyperspace tracker. Both have a similar role of stopping ships from escaping. The Gravity well projectors stop ships from entering hyperspace. While Hyperspace tracker allows for constant pursuit of a ship even when they enter hyperspace. The Hyperspace tracker weakness is when multiple ships jump to different places, the Supremacy can not follow all of the ships. Just seems more practical to stop ships from entering hyperspace in the first place. If the Supremacy had The gravity well projectors, there is no use for a hyperspace tracker. Other dreadnoughts like Sovereign-class and Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyers both used gravity well projectors. It’s also alarming that not a single First order ship so far have a gravity well projector. The Interdictor-class Star Destroyer and Immobilizer 418 cruiser were both great ships from the imperial Navy and were effective against Guerrilla warfare.

Hey EckhartsLadder. I know you most likely get a lot of suggestions for vids. But u was wondering a vid on what shapes (or designs) make great starships. I mean like the wedge shape of star destroyers. Because I'm working on star ships myself for my space rpg and wanted ships that have great fire sight, minimum blind spot, and practical.
Example: is a star destroyers' wedge shape a better design the a long broadside ship design off halo.
You have amazing insight on these kind of things and wanted your input. It doesn't have to be a vid but maybe a commit. Please.
