Now I finally understand the Legends fans. None of them had actually taken time to explain their overarching reasons for loving Legends before, but now I think I get the picture.
And yet the new Canon isn't quite the villain in all of this, because it's also fixing some problems that Legends had, like power creep and about 9 different ways to steal the same Death Star plans.
But the PCguy 17, the new canon makes zero sense. For example, you have the New Republic, a galaxy spanning government, that apparently has no warships. You have a resistance, against the New Republic? Who are they resisting against? There is zero reason to have a resistance. And apparently the Republic did not prosecute the war against the Empire to the end, to allow the First Order to become a threat. It makes no sense what Disney came up with.

Saintphoenix, i agree. I also haven't figured out how the NEw Republic has no ships. And why there is a resistance. Were they resisting against the New Republic?
Joe Laton After Jakku, Mon Mothma began a massive demilitarization of the New Republic in an effort to ensure the public that they were not trading one military dictatorship for another. Planet security was to be handled by local government sector defenses only. Leia knew this was a bad idea, because there were still Imperial sympathizers in the new senate, but she was ultimately dismissed as a warmonger when she objected to demilitarization. After leaving the Senate, she formed the Resistance to stand against the First Order. She was largely ignored by the NR, but a few Senators supported her through info and money. Kind of like a shittier version of the Rebellion, in a shitter trilogy of SW movies.
Hastur, the King in Yellow Local governements? Cough cough cough, seriously most of them don't have a sufficient defense fleet to stand against even a single ISD and not nearly enough planetary fortifications, additionally most of the ones who do (e.g. Kuat) are imperial sympathizers... Couldn't the new republic scramble a decent police force; considering a few thousand star destroyers mysteriously disappeared (Decent as something with more fighting capabilities than a single fleet or few Xwings). Speaking of Decent fleets WTF happened to the prominent underworld factions which had modest naval capacity.
no government in their right mind will EVER demilitarize after decades of open conflict like that. Especially with literally millions of factions at play
Legends Empire has multiple remnants fighting each other through a Imperial Civil War AND the New Republic at the same time but then Canon Empire just destroys their own planets through Operation Cinder and gives up after a year
Hopefully one day the new canon will be as fleshed out as Legends. Sure there were more than a few duds in the old canon, but overall it told a pretty compelling story. I think one of Disney's greatest mistakes was ending the Galactic Civil war merely a year after Endor when they knew their new movies would take place several decades later. But hey, at least we are getting more Thrawn (and by Timothy Zahn no less!)
Justafan IV I agree. While I think the Galactic Civil War went on for too long after Endor in Legends, one year just seems too short. I would've rather had the Aftermath trilogy take place over a few years, and maybe the Battle of Jakku could happen 5 years after Endor.
A very good video. A few notes though: Sander Delvardus was an Admiral not a General. He created the title of Superior General after he turned Warlord. Palpatine's final demise and the fall of the Dark Empire was orchestrated by Carnor Jax and the Imperial Ruling Council which went on to found the short lived Crimson Empire.
Not completely in story. Having the big villain be the Empire up until the Yuuzhan Vong is pretty boring. They should've done away with the Empire after Thrawn, and Palpatine's resurrection and the Dark Empire shouldn't have been a thing.

The Joker of Earth-0801 It was stupid and contrived. It was dumb to bring the Emperor back from the dead, and it was just an excuse to revive the Empire one last time for no good reason. There are some concepts from it that are cool, such as the Deep Core fortress worlds, but overall the story didn't need to happen. At best, there could've been a really long New Republic campaign to conquer the Deep Core that was very difficult because of how entrenched these fortress worlds were, but there was no reason the Emperor had to be reborn or another huge Imperial campaign had to happen.
Ultimate Star Wars Geek It was epic and faithful to the characters. The New Republic had been weakened by Thrawn and the Dark Empire had been rebuilding for 6 years with all the remaining warlords united they had the means to take over the Core Worlds, the rest of the Galaxy has been devastated by years of conflict. After the loss of it's capital the New Republic fell apart. For Palpatine's return, well i'm a big fan of lord Sidious so I'm always glad to see more of him but I can understand why others don't. Still it's better than to introduce a new super strong Dark Side user who comes from nowhere, and who is just a taller version of Palpatine with a golden bathrobe.

Jesus, isn’t Star wars’s universe just depressing? No peace, ever, everything is just a constant cycle of “empire, Republic, empire, Republic, Yuuzhan Vong, Republic, Empire”. These people are doomed to keep fighting the same wars again and again and again, and these sith lords keep appearing over and over again, with no real reason for it, God, I’m really depressed now.
For most of the 1st 2 eras, the events are good & detailed *but* the dark empire story is dumb and completely undermines ROTJ. I mean, palps returning shows no originality.
What it does do, is underline his character completely. Palpathine was obsessed with eternal life and never failing, and he was one of the most powerful Sith to have ever lived. That he would have a back-up plan that invovled him RETURNING TO LIFE FROM BEING KILLED is 100% what he would do, instead canon got us an absurd rage-quit of "I can't have it, so fuck all of you" and that the one thing I hate the most about Disney. They have no idea how to do any characters properly. EVERY CHARACTER they inherited from Star Wars they have pissed on. Every single one. At least in "legends" Palapthine stayed true to himself. Nothing was 'undermined' by his return, because Vader was still dead, the Death Stars were gone, the Empire was fractured and a considerably more realistic war was waged for decades to establish dominance in the massive power-vacuum.
I tend to agree with that. Also, nothing had been said about the Chosen One or the prophecy at this point. Sand saving Luke still dooms Palpatine ultimately.
Terenin I respect your point, but after all the NR's success, instead of continuing that story with them being the main government and having to deal with a more insurgent empire like perhaps an annaihalation of the senate building, or a fleet defection that would pose a NEW threat without undermining the last years of the story and all the NR's accomplishments. Honestly, I think death should be the end, or at very least the new palps would have been weaker and have to rely on others. Also any story like this shouldn't have the empire do so successfully. Thrawn was a better tactition and even he didn't recapture the core. Palps had a good scheming mind, but awful tactics
Overwhelming force is also a tactic. Palps re-united the majority of the fractured Empire and the fleet gathered at Byss was a monumental behemoth, easily the single largest Imperial force gathered together there ever was. He had several dozen dreadnought-size vessels and thousands of ISD's, not to mention hundreds of thousands of support vessels like Victory's, Strike Cruisers, Dreadnought-Cruisers (I know, naming scheme yikes) Lancer frigates and so much more. Thrawn had to use what he had. Palps had an immense armada that struck with massive force everywhere at once. He ran them over, but later as he had to take more andm ore space he spread them to thin. It's a classic tale, and honestly a rather realistic one far as military force goes.
Disney really said that most of the Empire was defeated 1 year after Endor. They didn't even want to do a bit a work building up some strong lore that could be used for other projects. Like the empire fell apart in one year even though they had thousands of star destroyers around the galaxy. C'monnnnn
It's interesting how these different faction in the warlord's phone during the Warhammer 40K universe against War Boss from like Orks at still yeah dancing like that
The Empires major flaw was the lack of a clear successor. Palpatines ultimate goal was to achieve Immortality and live forever, so he never set a system of succession in place as he thought he wouldn't need one. Well tough luck, cause he's dead and there's no one to take his place. Who's the guy giving out the orders now?
"Legends" will always remain the true canon for me. Disney has forever butchered Star Wars, and it's good seeing them scramble about in the filth they created.
Would that filth happen to be the billions of dollars they've already made from these movies? And yes, before you say it, I know Solo severely under-performed, but their other movies have made them huge amounts of profit. If you consider that profit to be the filth that they scramble around in, I wouldn't say it's so bad for them.
Not exactly. What I am referring to is Disney/Lucasfilm's horrendous PR handling of the ever growing backlash that they have been facing from a divided fandom. With rumors that Kathleen Kennedy will be "stepping down", future Star Wars film productions being put on hold, internal disputes, and Solo's flop (under-performed is putting it lightly, I think), Disney has a clear problem on their hands. Solo seems to be a turning point. Many fans have gradually expressed their growing discontent with each movie released and it all ended with many of them speaking with their wallets once Solo made its debut. It doesn't help when the people who work on these movies mock and insult the fans with obviously paid "articles" parroting the same insults. If this trend continues, then we can possibly see future SWs movies earning less and less.
Sir Smite I'm not watching Episode IX But, I hope they learn from the lack of money and fire those in charge. Then we can possibly get Old Republic films, cool video games, and more Prequel content (spin offs, games, books).

@@ultimatestarwarsgeek7603 well, now it appears that you would get Palpatine reborn in Episode IX... I wonder how you feel about that...
Yay! Another colabration between my to favorite channels!
Now THAT is my star wars lore !!! Legends
Perfect video, thank you very much
The UAC from either doom 3 or 2016 would be a cool video
Can you guys do a video of the factions of the Mobile Suit Gundam from the One Year War, and other points in the UC timeline.
I loved the meshed editing style in this video.
Great seeing crossovers. Reminds me of the good old days of channel awesome
whuuuuuut collab with two of my favorite chill youtubers
it's awesome y'all are ding things together, two great channels!!
Always glad to see this collab and see someone cover the Post-Endor era of Star Wars. Hope to see Eckhartsladder or you, Templin, help out with the current Twin Suns Foundation fundraiser looking to donate Star Wars books to children's hospitals in California and Pittsburg, Pennslyvania later this year. You two would help immensely and give these kids Star Wars content to look forward to. You can learn more here: www.twin-suns.net/donate/holiday-reads-drive-2018
Hanging out at the Templin Institute. Good times. XD
Tenplin and Eck are a Great Team-up
Who else had this video and the UNCS navy overview and history video on their recommendation?
Damn, Eck's gotten super good.
I love operation Esperanza initiative. I hope it will have a great success.
A Suprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Jesus, isn’t Star wars’s universe just depressing? No peace, ever, everything is just a constant cycle of “empire, Republic, empire, Republic, Yuuzhan Vong, Republic, Empire”. These people are doomed to keep fighting the same wars again and again and again, and these sith lords keep appearing over and over again, with no real reason for it,
God, I’m really depressed now.
Pretty much! With the occasional decade of peace here and there, and then post Caedus period.
Well that's why the Jedi are there. The galaxy keeps going from ying to yang to ying, but they're just trying to balance it out.
You thought the star wars universe was depressing i suggest the universal century era of gundam
Post Endor Era is my absolute favourite!
Awesome vid. Hope to see more colabs in future.
Your background music is some of the best BTW.
Yes a crossover!
That was an impressive and well presented history lesson.
My two favorite lore channels!
Boy this didn't age too well....
Great stuff guys keep up the great work!
The governments! The collaboration! This is gold!
Disney really said that most of the Empire was defeated 1 year after Endor. They didn't even want to do a bit a work building up some strong lore that could be used for other projects. Like the empire fell apart in one year even though they had thousands of star destroyers around the galaxy. C'monnnnn
apologize for obvious reference, but what if Palpatine decided to create 20 sons-clones, who will command 20 legions of...
Eli Smirnov he’ll just take over one and the rest will hide till that clone dies and he’ll just take over another one
It's interesting how these different faction in the warlord's phone during the Warhammer 40K universe against War Boss from like Orks at still yeah dancing like that
Best collab, and a wonderful video.
For the Empire!
Who else was a subscriber to both and watched each video back to back?
Please talk about Delos Incorporated from Westworld! Or MCU's Hydra.
i really fuckin like this channel so thanks for existing!
Can I just say that it is so refreshing to hear legends instead of the BS Disney has been making. I consider this canon and Disney as fan fiction
*I came to support Eckhart because I ❤️ doge*
Hey Templin, when are you guys going to launch another Neutral Zone episode? Maybe get all of you guys together and talk to Daniel about how the production of his series is going.
The imperial remnant (under Pallaeon) > every imperial government post Endor
If you guys are still looking for people to do the dossier videos on I would recommend George Hammond from Stargate. His level headedness and ability to juggle the men and women under his command is almost Picard-like
OMG The Livestream is on my 17th Birthday!!!!!!!
I would ship eckhartsladder and templin institute!! 😍
yo lengends bro. the best version of SW
Got my boi Eckhart on here? sweet.
great coorepation! Will you be making a video on the Yuuzong Vong war and the Dark empire?
This is so sad up until the part I came back. Sadly I died again :(
very good music choice
Thank you!
Thanks I really enjoyed this
Love the video. You guys should do the MCR from The Expanse next? Please!
Great Video!
Yes'! More SWEU/Legends-themed videos! Thank you! :)
Templar Order by the Templin Institute would be nice next. (Assassins Creed franchise)
So basically any one of these stories would have made a better movie than the Force Awakens
More neutral zone colabs please.
This video needs the Eckhart's outro
