    Although my new Mazda CX-30 is a fantastic daily driver, I do have just a few complaints about it. Watch to find out what I think could be better about the CX-30!
    0:00 - What's up everyone
    0:34 - Problem 1: Wheel arches
    1:39 - Problem 2: Gas tank
    2:59 - Problem 3: Transmission
    5:43 - Wrapping up
    Note, my car is a 2021 CX-30 AWD Premium non-turbo. The issue of a small gas tank is worse in the turbo models because of their lower fuel economy, but the transmission issue is better in the turbo models because the car has much more torque and doesn't need to downshift nearly as much in ordinary passing and other daily driving.

    • @ababyrhino
      @ababyrhino ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't even understand why people want touch screen in their cars, my buddy has touchscreen and you always got to clean that screen from finger prints. He got annoyed of it, it became an inconvenience and he didn't bother with it anymore. Now the slightest sun hits that screen and its finger print city on that screen and you can barely see what's on there. Sure he might have gotten lazier and its an easy fix, but the amount of times you got to do it makes its terrible and I don't blame him. That's why I love how Mazda did it, not only do you never have to touch the screen and get it dirty, its also safer. You wont be making unnecessary movements and bends to reach the touchscreen which will lead to less eye contact on the roads. That knobs feels so good to use, its like an Xbox control, its gonna be second nature and you will understand every movement and control just like you do on any gaming controller on consoles or pc. As a gamer, I love that control knob so much.

    Everyone complains about the plastic cladding, but that is one of the reasons i bought the car! I live on a dirt road in Florida fully of bumps and potholes. When it rains, the plastic cladding helps protect the paint....since there isn't any towards the bottom.
    Also if you got the turbo with the black rims, it fits it a lot better. I got the red turbo premium plus with the black rims and it looks 👌👌👌

I love this car but I agree with you on the transmission. Spot on assessment and description. For Gods sake (for the safety of yourself and other drivers around you) PLEASE keep both hands on the steering wheel, and your eyes on the road AT ALL TIMES.
    Have you seen the effect of a sudden front wheel blowout?…the s/wheel is often ripped completely to one side (if it’s not being firmly held onto).
    And you certainly DON’T have ANY need to be constantly looking over at your camera (we can all hear you perfectly!)
    Both of these situations can easily have fatal consequences!

    Congrats on your new CX-30!! I loved the Turbo w/ AWD and it put a genuine smile on my face. I was conflicted on some of it but if I had millions I would have one in the stable. I was afraid it would be too small so I got a new CX-5 instead. But it’s not as fun as the CX-30. I have the Snowflake White Pearl w/ Parchment leather. Your choice of black was smart. It would be Machine Gray for me. And that gas tank is too damn small I can’t believe that. Maybe Mazda can rectify some of this. Maybe not for awhile. I give kudos to Mazda for creating something a little different tho. You have a unique vehicle that isn’t everywhere. You are a great communicator and easy to listen to! I totally agree with all of those problems. I have a 2016 CX-3 (AWD). Mine is white color. Wheel arches are also black plastic. Luckily mine is diesel, however I’m driving in a huge city name called Istanbul. So sometimes 2-3 days later I need to fill the tank again fully also which drives me crazy.
    In the meantime I do agree with the 6 speed automatic really can’t decide when I push the accelerator. Same as you: I’m changing to the manual gear at those times. So Mazda just changed the model but the same problems are going on as I see.
    But still I love my car. I drove 11000 miles in 4 month. I climbed a mountain once on a dirt road. Nothing is broken and so realiable. One of the best decision I have ever made when I bought it.

    James makes the most honest Reviews. He shows us all the good things and not so good things. I love the Plastics on the CX-30. It´s good it doesn´t can get rust. You can clean it easy. The insurance of this car is just much cheaper than from a CX-5 in Germany. The CX-5 was in 2019 the most stolen car in Germany. Insurances raised the price from the CX-5 Insurance. So i will love my CX-30 because it´s smaller, cheaper und more agile than my old CX-5 and the wonderful 6Gear manuel transmision. 12 gallons will be enough for me for 500miles around or 795km.

    I have a 2021 CX30. I had a 2004 Mazda3 hatchback 5 speed this car got totaled when I was hit by another car that blew through a way way stop at 60 mph, hence the new CX30. With the CX30, I'd like to have seen a bit more fuel tank capacity. As far as mpg, it is about the same as my 3 was. I have a light foot so I try to get the most out of the mpg I can get. I like the ride, and with regard to the transmission I do not have any issues with it - after driving a stick forever, the automatic is refreshing for my taste. I like the AWD, as I live in an area that has snow.

A beautiful looking car spoilt by those wheel arches. I wish Mazda hadn't of done that. Mine has the Skyactive X engine, 2ltr, manual transmission and front wheel drive. Around town I get 45mpg and 50mpg on the motorway so quite good. Nicest interior on any car I've ever owned.

    I own the 24 CX 30 in Soul Red Crystal and I honestly don't mind the black plastic cladding. Lots of cars have that nowadays so you just have to learn to accept it. It does require a little bit more upkeep to keep it looking good but it does offer some protection against road debris and small rock chips things like that.
    I haven't owned it enough yet to realize how often I'm going to have to fill it up but most of my driving is just around town Short trips to the grocery store doctor's office or whatever so having to get gas more frequently is not really going to be a problem for me. Also I don't let my cars get below a half tank anyways. Since most cars have the fuel pumps inside the tank nowadays and use the fuel to keep the pump cool I always try to keep the tank half full.
    All in all I just bought mine April 1st 2024 and so far I'm very impressed with it Especially the way it drives

    Just discovered your videos on the CX-30 and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Thanks very much. Great presentations, so much better than all the others I've watched. I had the 2020 CX-30 in the dark blue and have just updated to a leased 2023 non turbo GS mid grade model as we call them in Canada. I was amused to hear about your decision to get the black so as to disguise the cladding. Everyone's tastes different of course. I had the 2020 dark blue and have switched to the white for the 2023 as I very much like the cladding. Though no major changes on the 2023 I've noticed a number of minor ones that just make it an even nicer car. As far as I can tell the hesitation in the gear changing seems to be gone, the ride seems just a bit smoother, it goes into the radar cruise a bit better (always seemed to have taken a few tries in the 2020), and the leather (or faux leather) wrapping on the steering wheel has, at least to me, a much better more upscale feel to it. Just a great car. Given my age, (in the mid 80's) I don't need to own a car anymore so I did my first lease and am saving myself over $100 monthly in car payments. Plan to continue with the CX-30s with 3 year leases the rest of the way out. Looking forward to more of your videos on the CX-30s.

Visibility isn't amazing and makes me slightly miss the 1997 4Runner I learned to drive in... but relative to modern cars, visibility in the CX-30 is not too bad. I've had mine for 18 months and none of these are issues for me. I tried to duplicate the transmission "hunting" and only had a slight stutter when I stomped on it. If you're stomping on it on the regular then that's a driver technique issue. Also if you're comparing the mileage and range with a Prius you may have bought the wrong car. This car internally is about the same size/volume as the Mazda3 5-door (which I traded in to get my CX-30) - a little taller but a little shorter inside. AWD sits up higher and since it's mated to the same 2.5/6spAuto as the 3 the mileage and "zoom zoom" are less ideal.

    I have a white 2021 CX-30 and the issue with the cladding isnt really about its existance. I actually think its nice with the white. Its one of the reasons I prefer the CX-30's look over the Mazda 3 hatchback. The issue with the cladding for me is the size/thickness of it. I think it should be about half an inch to an inch thinner over the front tires to better match the plastic stripe-of-a-bumper on the front of the car. The cladding looks a little too thick as a result. Over all though, its minor and still better looking car overall compared to the Mazda 3 hatch imo

    I bought the turbo model in black to minimize the wheel well roominess and the too large black plastic trim. My only gripe is when looking from the driving position out the passenger side window, I find the side view mirror is about 30% too large and creates its own blind spot. Am sure you have noticed this but forget to mention it. If anybody has a link for rear cargo area all weather floor matts, please share it here. Wondering why you did not spring for the TURBO?

    • @JamesPlaysWithCars
      @JamesPlaysWithCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very interesting, Jon - the mirror doesn't bother me, but that might be because I came from a Lexus IS 350 that also had a giant mirror! I didn't spring for the Turbo because I'm lucky to have a Miata for spirited driving, so the non-turbo was the better choice for my budget and planned use of the car. If I had to just have one car, I might have gone for the Mazda3 hatch turbo for sharper handling and speed. Enjoy your CX-30!!

    Very good explanation of the 6 speed auto trans. In Leisure mode (not Sport or Manual shift) driving around town 50kph: If there is a need to stomp on it the car will double downshift then immediately upshift one gear and settle on that. It takes more than a second to do that and by then any advantage of downshifting has gone. FWD feels a bit quicker than AWD, though the downside is more torque steer, so pay attention to the torque steer to see if you're ok with it. And finally, I'd also test it against the Mazda3 hatchback if that's an option you're considering. To me, the hatch and sedan have noticeably better handling than the CX-30, BUT the CX-30 is quieter and more comfortable due to the taller sidewall tires and suspension travel. Hi Aiden, I’ve really begun to enjoy Polymetal Grey on the CX-30 after seeing it in the wild for a couple years now. 😎

      FYI you get a 10 - 12 % safety advantage with a white car because it's so much easier for others to see. It's also cooler when parked in the California sun.

    FYI For those that don’t need AWD, the FWD models have a slightly larger fuel tank. 12.7 gallons in the AWD versus 13.5 gallons in FWD.

      What's the mile range capacity for the 13.5 gallon tank?

    • @JamesPlaysWithCars
      @JamesPlaysWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thundergato84 With FWD's better mpg and the slightly larger tank, you should get about ~50 miles more range. That should be a very noticeable difference!

      @@JamesPlaysWithCars according to the dealer I met with the other day, it is possible to turn off the AWD and that dramatically improves gas mileage. :)
