I think Mazda builds the best driving cars outside of Germany. It's too bad more people in the US don't give them a shot. Maybe if they did, we'd see more of them with a manual trans. From the ones I've owned, they're just as reliable as any other Japanese car.

Mazda has some serious design issues that cost you large amounts of money to remedy.
Of the Japanese car brands Honda and Subaru perform best in my opinion. Worth the extra money to buy in my opinion.
I would also choose Toyota over Mazda

Correction: SOME places in the U.S. don't buy Mazdas. Californians still love their Mazda. I see them all over the place here in Northern California. Also, Mazda had a substantial increase in sales in 2023, fyi.

6:25 The transmission short-shifts because, almost like a diesel, the engine develops most of its power down low. While redline is 6200, torque peak is at 2500 and power peak is at 5000. Past that, you're just making more noise. So "short-shifting" is the fastest way to drive the car.
The little turbo is pushing 17.4 psi peak boost, but runs out of breath at high RPMs. Mazda engineered the system for daily driving, not the racetrack - the trade-off is basically instant spool-up and virtually no turbo lag. I daily this car and it's a hoot.

It is a subcompact, especially in the back seats it is tight for adults. The storage area is small too. There are USB's and a 12 v power jack inside the center armrest compartment, but there should be jacks by the vent in the back. Still, the interior is better than some more expensive brands. I was impressed with the performance on the dirt and hill. That Soul Red is one of the best red shade of color ever on a modern car, and you even come close to matching it with your blouse. I have a '21 CX-30 non-turbo, had it for 2 1/2 years now, have driven it cross-country from NJ and into the deep south, midwest in 38 states, has 39K on it and but for the battery (original was a cheap, low CCA's one, replaced with a better 650 CCA) and no other problems. I like the road feel, that has a real shiftable, real automatic transmission (not a CVT), the AWD gives you confidence on slippery/rainy surfaces, decent fuel mileage. I believe you did a review of a non-turbo CX-30 several years ago and you liked that too.

Had a 2022 Mazda 3 Turbo AWD. The most fun car I have ever had for the price point. Quick, nimble, and looked great! Super soft interior, nice trim pieces and physical knobs instead of touch screens; which I appreciated. Great to take up into the mountains and into some twisties. Sadly, I needed more hauling capacity otherwise I would never have gotten rid of it.

Based on your review, I picked up a certified pre-owned 2023 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus with all the toys. The ticker had 3k on it, it was a dealer loaner/demo unit, and appears to be well kept.
About 20% off the MSRP, plus an extra 12months and 12k miles on the B2B warranty as well as the power train warranty goes out to 7/100k
It's a apt replacement for my 2012 3 with "spaceship mileage"

Adaptive headlights were finally legalized in the US by the DOT fairly recently. I have older BMWs that came with the adaptive hardware anyway, and the software locked out the function. When you started the cars, the self-test would still move the headlights to verify that the motors were free, but they didn’t do anything while driving. There were separate fixed position lights for lighting up corners.

This is what the website says "An extremely lean mix of fuel and air are compressed to an extremely high pressure. A spark then ignites a very small, dense amount of fuel, which further raises the heat and pressure in the cylinder, causing the remaining fuel to ignite under pressure (like a diesel). The fuel burns more quickly and more completely so you get better performance and fewer emissions than a conventional engine." and "there is a small supercharger which helps to pressurise the air in the engine when running in SPCCI mode"@@RRr-yl8zr

Sarah does not ordinarily call out other TH-camr videos, especially explainer videos. Not that I would expect any of Jason's video would be anything less than exemplary, but because Sarah called it out, I feel I must go watch it. Very high praise.

I really like these little cars. I kinda want one.... but I'd probably just go for the 2.5 S Prefered with the naturally aspirated engine and AWD in either red or all black. Throw some different wheels and tires on it and it'd be awesome!

There is a lift kit from HRG offroad that will give the CX 30 an extra 1.5 inches of ground clearance. Combined with a skid plate from Corksport and Falken wildpeak A/T trail tires will turn the cx 30 into a serious off roader.

I bought my first Mazda CX5 in 2012 but was a 2013. Fully loaded the only thing I and many complained about was the lack of power from the 2 liter. Almost 160000 Miles later and not one issue I traded it in on a new 2019 loaded this time without all wheel drive now living in Fl. The 2.5 engine made a big difference and 60000 miles not one issue.

I’m pretty much brand agnostic, but three of my last four car purchases have been Mazdas (in fact, I work for another manufacturer). They just seem to be the answer to the automotive question I’m asking at the time. I own three currently, including a ‘90 Miata that I’ve owned for 26 years and which has been a race car for the last 20.

So glad you finally did the turbski version. I have the 21 CX30 and yeah the tires aren't great but I've managed in the snow which this car is great in snow. I'm getting Michellin Crossclimate II tires to replace the stock tires this year. I have almost 31k miles on them and they're about half worn but not going to make another winter so it's time to move on.
