Hi James, I want to thank you for your videos. After doing a lot of research, including your videos I decided on a CX-30. There were none available in my area to even look at. I took a leap and and called a dealer 350 miles away with a lease return 2021 preferred. I bought it online/phone calls and had it delivered. It was a bit scary as I had never seen one except pictures and videos. And I am an old lady (active/healthy 76yo ) so buying a car online/video phone calls was quite an experience. I had never even used zoom before. I have to say I have now had it a month and absolutely love this little vehicle. I did have a battery problem 2 weeks after getting my cuv, My Mazda app was great and the dealer here did cover it under the warranty and even let me have a new CX-5 loaner. Again I liked what I saw doing research and other videos but yours were what gave me the confidence that this was the one for me. Snowflake white pearl mica with dark tinted windows. It is stunning to look at and fun to drive and I feel very safe with all the safety features. Thanks again.
The color name of “Snowflake White…” is a REALLY unfortunate name (as the original meaning has changed in a BIG way during the last decade). However, the physical color helps keep the car much, much cooler in the Summer. Congratulations on your purchase!
I drove a CX-30 rental car today. Now I know why young people would buy this and a family person would buy a CX-5. I had a blast driving CX-30, and I'm seriously considering getting one. And maybe when I have a kid, I will upgrade to a CX-5. [UPDATE: I bought it, black leather, polymetal gray.]
Question: did you buy the cx-30 or the CX-5 thank you. I bought a 2023 Mazda cx-30 in May of 2023. I am wondering what your opinion is of your new Mazda thank you.
@@marcelhaik8035 Thank you for the question. I bought a brand new top of the line CX30. I've driven both CX30 and CX5, they were both rental cars for work. I chose cx30 because the road nearby home is tight and it was fun to drive. CX5 is still a good car, but I didn't like it because the body rolls slightly when turning and the steering felt a little numb. CX30 was perfect, because it was sporty enough and had more space than mazda 3. So, I recommend CX30 for people who like BMW's sporty drive feel and Toyota's reliability.
Very, very, very, satisfied with our CX 30. After 25,000 miles. It's fascinating that we like it more than the Mercedes AMG for fit and finish and overall driving. (But c'mon! AMG is crazy performance under power.) But the CX 30 is the best buy by far. BTW, great honest review.
So good to hear that you are happy with your CX-30! I just purchased a 2024 Mazda CX-30 S AWD base model this past January, and so far I am glad I did; no buyer's remorse!!! I love how well it handles city traffic, and how quiet and comfortable it is to drive. Please keep us updated!
Hey, happy to hear u like the cx30! A quick question tho, i currently have a 2014 mazda 3 and im considering upgrading to cx30, what im concerned about is if the cx30 does have the same rigid suspension that the old mazda's used to have as its a little bumpy where i live
You covered a lot and well. I have 42,000 miles on my 2020 CX-30 FWD Select (leatherette interior) and changing tires made a huge difference. The stock Turanzas had little grip in the wet (from a standstill) and they were NOISY. At 35,000 miles I bought some Falken Pro G5 CSV's from Discount Tire. I went with a slightly larger size 225/55/R18 for the larger contact patch in the wet (Florida) and it didn't hurt the handling at all. Fills in the wheel wells ever so slightly, too. I have zero rattles. My transmission never hunted, but the car uses a very conservative gear on a soft launch and whines a little. I found a reply to another YT video from a Mazda engineer that said this was on purpose for fuel economy. I can put my foot into it for a downshift if I want a more aggressive launch. Piano black is the worst. We have used my car as the primary vehicle in my family, taking kids to college with a roof bag, vacation for a family of 4 adults, hauling mulch and sod, driving down bad dirt roads to get to hiking trails...highway commuting...I expect 225,000 miles trouble free just like my 2006 3 Sport, my first Mazda.
Fitting 225/55/R18 will void your warranty and also exclude insurance unless you have notified your insurer that you have modified the car with non standard spec. In Australia, insurers will not cover you in a vehicle accident if you fit non standard tyres as this is a breach of contract disclosure. I'd go back to the stock 215/55/R18's OR call your insurer for advice. Cheers.
Both the 2019 and 2020 models are to be avoided. By 2022 Mazda improved these a lot but 2023 has massive engineering differences in NVH and reliability etc......... 2020 models here are already starting to fail as of 2023 with engine failures in particular being nasty but covered by warranty!
@@theaustralianconundrum thank you for the description of how you use this! Do you still like the size? Trying to decide between this and the cx 5 as my daily driver. (Mostly just me, light hauling). Worried about visibility too. Any info would be appreciated!
I wish all my naturally-aspirated brethren can experience the joys of the turbo model. It is a completely different car and is so nicely done when packaged into the CX-30 with all it's standard features in the turbo trims. Mine is in jet black/red leather and it's fuel efficiency is not amazing, but fuel economy isn't why I bought this car. Also, it's got the best sound system under $40k CDN. Driving no longer became a chore, I take the long way everywhere. Edit: And I didn't break the bank. For perspective, my auntie bought a base model Toyota Rav4 LE for $42.5k CDN (also no dealer markup). People are literally asleep at the wheel when it comes to Mazda.
Just purchased a used 2021 premium, I went with the non turbo due to price and gas mileage but apparently there is an open service bulletin for the turbo version because they are losing oil. I found the CX-30 rode so much better than the CX-5. Great info you provided!
Nice video! I live in Spain and I have the CX30 with the eSkyactiv-X version (I think is not sold in America) with 186hp. Mine has 10k miles and consumption is amazing. I got 39mpg in mix usage and around 31 in urban usage (engine is more complicated, we will see how it holds). I have to say that everyday I drive it I feel happier.
My wife and I have owned eight Mazdas between us (big fans), and while I love the looks of the CX-30 inside and out, one thing bugs me about it - the sound of the doors closing. Our time with the CX-30 only lasted a few months due to the cramped rear seats, so we had a rapid-fire CX-9 > CX-30 > CX-5 experience. The doors on the CX-5, the 6, and the CX-9 all close with a reassuring thunk that says tight tolerances and great engineering, while the 30 sounds tinny and cheap. Smaller and lighter doors might explain some of it, but the difference is pretty noticeable. Also, WTH is up with all the piano black, Mazda? _Please stop._ No one wants it. For those looking at Mazdas today, one thing to keep in mind is that the naturally aspirated version of the 2.5 does not make a pleasant noise. The turbo models muffle that sound, making it a quieter and far more refined-sounding car (not to mention giving it actual passing power). On a limited budget, I'd pick a lightly-used turbo over a new non-turbo.
The CX-30 is built in Mexico, so it doesn’t have the same quality as Japanese built Mazdas sadly. I have owned a 2015 Mazda 3 hatchback, my wife has owned a CX-5 and we are currently on another CX-5. The build quality is superior to anything else. I use to work for a Canadian/American company that has two plants in Juarez Mexico and Monterrey Mexico. In 2014 the Canadian plant lost a $250,000 contract to the Juarez plant. In 2017, the company that switched to the Mexico facility, broke their contract and came back to the Canadian plant and renegotiated a $400,000 contract to make the same parts that they went to the Mexico plant for. Their whole plan was to save $100,000 but the Mexico plant had such a bad time trying to make good quality products, that it was costing more money and the reputation of this customer.
The battery has a small capacity. Mine ran out when I used to turn on the battery just to listen to music while sitting in the car. Mazda road side assistance came and charged it and they also replaced the battery for free at the dealership. You can try to find a higher capacity battery. Mazda just installs a lower capacity one to save on production costs.
I have a cx-30 for 1.5 years. The only service to date has been an oil change. Two issues I resolved myself where transmission error and engine light. I ran a software refresh coding I found on line and that removed the transmission error with no issues months later. The engine light was turned off by removing the negative terminal for 60 seconds, however the dealer or the factory simply did not secure the negative terminal on the battery. When i secured the terminal my socket wrench rotated 360 degrees four times - no issues months later. Basically I have had many Mazda's and I avoid using their service if at all -many years of bad experience with said service.
@@eleanormassaro5195 oh yes for less than $30 it really cleans up the areas that attract the prints & scratches. If I kept my Mazdas long term instead of just leasing I would put these brushed aluminum plates on at day 1 like I do my steering wheel covers and plastic protective floor mats
I have a 2020 CX30 and i have to agree on the ride quality. Just this morning going to work i thought it had a little more squeaks and rattles. But nothing that bad. I learned from my last Mazda to clean the interior with a hand swifter. Picks up all the duat and lint and no scratches. Love my CX30. Thanks.
Yes, and, James, I read somewhere that microfiber scratches black piano and that plastic clear cover for the IP. You're better off using the cloth that you clean eye glasses with.
I've had my 2022 CX-30 Carbon Edition for 19 months now. No problems/issues yet to report, not even a single cabin rattle. Since I live in hot, dry southern Arizona, I plan to proactively replace the vehicle battery every 2 years. You should also be changing your oil every 5k/6m minimum if you want to maximize engine health/life. Longer intervals will get you (or whoever owns the vehicle at that point) into more problems/repairs down the road, after the power-train warranty period has expired. Transmission fluid should also be drained/replaced every 25-30K miles if you expect the transmission to last a long time & stay in good operating condition. I've been happy with my CX-30, but I do miss driving a manual, so may switch to a 6-MT MX-5/Miata RF or BRZ/GR86 in model year 2025 (if they are still around).
@@MrEdiboyzeeall new cars have ridiculously long intervals for oil change in the manuals. Fords, Volkswagens, Mazdas, but old mechanics tell me to ignore that and stick with the 3k-5k mileage schedule. I even get the oil changed after the first 1000 miles per old time mechanics, like my now deceased grandpa. He tells me that it will drain all of the metal shavings from the machining to make the parts at the factory and thus save the engine from having oil with metal shavings circulating the engine for thousands of miles. So I do take my new cars in for that oil change at 1000 miles. Those guys are my age, young, and they always question me.
Thanks for the update as I have the exact same model/specs but am about @15k behind you. I was especially heartened to hear that the transmission had improved. At 1k I too was thinking that it was 'confused' in the lower gears. Now at 10k it has improved, less searching. If it matures like yours I'll be happy. Good work!
Man you’re awesome, I follow every single video you posted about your Mazda and I just found it suitable for me. Thank you so much for you to do this channel 🎉!
I have the 2021 turbo and as much as I love it, I'm already on my 3rd battery. I don't drive long distances as much anymore so the short trips also appear to be my issue. I was also recommended a battery tender to avoid this, but Mazda did cover the replacement batteries under warranty so that's a plus. My one and biggest complaint with this car coming from a Honda is the size of the gas tank. I'd rather pay more and visit the gas station less... getting 220 - 230 miles out of a full tank was a huge downgrade from my previous Accord giving me over 400 miles. Other than that I really love it, have had no other problems and I actually like that the infotainment isn't touch screen as it never freezes on me. Also, not many other brands have such a pretty red color, Mazda knocks it out the park with that color
10k on my cx30, I also have rattles behind the center display on really rough Philly roads… I’ve heard it’s an easy fix I’ll have my dealer look. Also, was initially really disappointed in the transmission shift quality after I got the car so much that I manually reset the transmission twice. Now at 10k the car drives incredible. Shifts are so smooth and no longer Bucky or gear hungry as before. I think it must just take a while to adapt to your driving styles
My wife has a 20 CX 30 with about 20K on it. The only issue has been with the rear struts which the dealership noted and replaced under warranty. I have a 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan with 3K miles on it. No issues. To be fair, for a lot of vehicles it takes 1) time for the car to learn your driving habits and 2) most cars get better gas mileage over time as the engine gets worn in, multiple oil changes, etc.
Great updates, I got my 2020 and requested dealer change out tires for Cooper Discoverer Enduramax, drove it for only a month on originals but the Coopers were night and day imrovement, quieter ride and while still firm bumps and ruts in the road seem to be absorbed opposed to "hit" as felt with the Bridgestones. I also considerd the Continental CrossContact LX25 wich are highly rated as well. The transmission adjust to how you drive but this usually only takes few hundred miles, mine "learned" within about a month and was shifting very well but I drive 100 mile a day, 80 highway the rest rural/city, so it adjusted quickly. Have your machanic or dealer update your car, there is a TSB about the battery drain that will fix the short mile trip issue. since 2021 there are at least 3 updates to the cars system to help with bugs in the system . Again thanks for your videos!!
Did I miss the ownership cost including lube, oil, and filter changes? I have a 21’ Mazda CX-5- I’m ready to buy out the lease and keep it for awhile. I have 16,780 miles now. I don’t have any problems to report at this time; it keeps getting better. No rattled yet. I keep a steering wheel cover on since day 1, and my parchment leather has a slight bit of yellowing on the seat bottom front edges. I think it’s a result of the black seat covers I keep in the seats and the transfer from those to the leather as me and my occasional passenger get in and out over time. I’m on my 4th new Mazda and I always drive Honda and Toyota and go back to my Mazda dealer. Mazdas drive and steer so beautifully and mine is built in Japan and I really feel the quality. It’s solid. I only put about 7k-8k miles per year on the Mazdas. My only complaint is that the seat bottoms are pretty hard/firm. I bought cooling gel cushions to sit on for longer drives.
Thanks for the video! I really love my 2023 Mazda CX-30! It is one of the few vehicles that I absolutely love driving. So far, I haven't had any battery (or any other) issues with it. It drives well. I know that the tires aren't exactly the best; however, I will eventually switch to a better tire when these wear out. Still, they aren't terrible tires. I just think that I will go with a larger-wall tire to add another inch of tire diameter for better road absorption. I have the Platinum Quartz Metallic. It's a great color and really hides the dirt and any imperfections.
I replaced the OE tires with 235/50R18 V rated tires and the handling improved immensely! You won’t be disappointed, this should have been the size to begin with? IMO
I plan to get a CX-30! Going to be swapping the stock tires to crossclimate 2's immediately though being in a VERY rainy area. Should ride better too. I will probably also swap for an AGM battery as well to have that peace of mind with it (unless warranty has issues with it). I look forward to getting it soon in white with red garnet interior in GT trim (top trim in Canada).
Just bought cx 30 centre line which is a fantastic car to drive. Only issue I have is that it doesn't have power tailgate lift although the spec below does. Not a major issue but a head scratcher.
Did you ever try out the CX-30? I've been interesting in the CX-50 since it got announced but haven't had a chance to test drive it. Want to see how much of a difference the size makes to the ride
@@pri5044 I did drive it but I wasn't a fan of the tiny windows. It has a lot of blind spots. I'm more of an outdoorsy person so I wanted something I could take light off-roading up logging roads and such. I suppose it's a question of what works best for your life style and your needs. The CX50 is smaller than the CX90 but larger than the CX5. The CX30 just doesn't make sense to me.
Always enjoyable to watch your mazda vids! I have a 2021 Mazda 3, and my battery "died" on me as well. I parked the car for 3 days without driving (and franklin I don't drive much at all), and the car wouldn't start. I had someone come and jump the battery, and it has been fine since then. I took it to the dealer a few days afer the incidence in hopes of warranty claim, but they apparently didn't find anything wrong with the battery, said the charge state was good, and denied the claim at the time. My 3 year factory battery warranty would expire end of this year... so hopefully it doesn''t die soon after that even though there's a high chance.
My Mazda 3, a 2016, had a battery leak and die about 2 years in. I took it to my dealer and they replaced it right away. The service manager told me that lots of them come back with bad batteries and Mazda told them to simply replace them all, because Mazda was buying cheap ass Mexican batteries he said but that Mazda would stop and had learned a lesson.
Thanks for these videos. I'd say really anything on every day use of these would likely be appreciated. As you never know what might become popular here. Personally I'd lean towards the mazda3 if I suddenly had to buy a new car. As I just need something that efficiently gets me from point A to point B, no fuss. Which my 06 Camry that crossed 187000 miles this week has so far been able to do, getting slightly over 34mpg nearly all highway driving (EPA rated 29 on highways) and trying to pick a speed which lets me minimally brake. Which it seems all the extra "tech" is a nuisance if you don't care about the latest and "greatest"
Ive been debating on a cx-30 . Currently have a 16 cx-5. That was my 3rd brand new Mazda and all very reliable but all had the same issues and hope things have been corrected since.
It's sort of weirdly gratifying to know you've had some rattle issues with yours. I have a UK model 2022 with the 2.0 Skyactiv-X SECCI engine and the most irritating rattle has developed around the infotainment screen - a sort of constant, significant knocking from the mounting points. The dealer is happy to have a look at it when servicing which is nice but part of me wondered whether I had a friday car. I know cars will rattle over time but my car has only done 8200 miles (being serviced next tuesday). Nonetheless an enjoyable car to own. So many goodies and gadgets for a low price and an interior classy enough it rivals the posh brands at substantially less cost. I'm even getting on average 48/50mpg out of the mild hybrid. We don't get the 2.5 Turbo you guys get in the states but can't say I feel short changed.
What's bothering me about my 2023 CX 30 is ride quality. Lots of shaking and bumps. I took it to the dealer to see if the tires, wheels, suspension is okay and they said it is. But it's really starting to get to me so I'm going to test drive another one and see if it feels the same. If it does and I just didn't notice how rough the ride was until now, then I will replace the tires because the tires it came with absolutely suck, which may be the problem.
Whats with the oil burning issue? Could you quickly elaborate on this in an answer directy after my question please...id appreciate that? Im thinking about buying the 2024 was the issue fixed?
Hi James I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video and you're very informative on the information that you bringing I just wanted to tell you great job man and I hope like life is going well and you are awesome
I just bought a brand new Mazda cx30 carbon edition. I’m super nervous about it because it’s a big car payment but I hope it’s worth it. Thank your for the informative video.
Michelin Cross Climates are the best IMO. I have 70k on mine and will need to replace them as they just became a little noisy. But quietest and best balance between summer grip, snow, some light off road, and hard rains. I’ve driven through all of it.
Tires & fuel economy certainly have to due with your driving style and also what tires you use, I also noticed that the stock tire offering differs around when you buy the car, the model, but also where you live, and also quite possibly due to whatever purchasing agreement Mazda has at the time so do not assume you will get the same tire I get buying new on the other side of the coast, that being said if you live somewhere where it snows buy a more rugged snow tire. I owned a CX-30 that reached 42k miles and the cabin did not get looser for me, steering tight, and never had any rattling. I did find the "leatherette" held up well in the seats (I am 165lbs) on the driver seat too, however, the steering wheel and shifter did not and wish it was much more durable/heavy duty. I'm told that the car has adaptive learning so the driving style can get better, that probably explains that mileage, and it's also de minimums so maybe this guy simply didn't drive on highways or what not where he had to accelerate as quickly. This being said, for a 6' tall guy I enjoyed it in my early 20's but it lost it's luster in my mid 20's when I wanted to bring friends along. I found while driving the cx-30 I felt more bumps along the way than my new CX-5, even thought the dealership said my shocks were in great condition. Maybe they just don't use the best shocks on the cx-30. I found that the cx30 had too much plastic on the outer side body and it aged quickly and looked sun bleached unless I used back to black every few washes, I wish it had more painted side body because that black plastic just simply did not look good over time, and sadly even in the higher end trim packages they do not paint more of that lower side body. I found the cx-30 was difficult for passengers to sit comfortably in the back. The CX-5 to me is an adequate amount of sleek and also useability where at this point I would not be willing to buy another cx-30 for that reason. If you are smaller with family/friends who are on the small side, and do not value cargo, then this is a good pick. In my case I'd rather vibe with my corvette & gto for fun, and use my CX-5 for the more day to day travel and use where I want and value the space. That being said if seeking a crossover that looks like a slightly higher raised hatchback, and looking for a great price range for the trim level, this is a great pick. I lastly looking back wish my cx-30 for a higher end trim level had a bit more options on the inside, bigger display, etc - but still it is a mid/high end interior for the price range.
I’m glad I came across your video! It’s great to see a POV. I’m considering a 24 CX30, but my biggest hold up is the size of the rear window. During my test drives it appears to be fine, but apprehensive about longer trips (I work 40ish miles away from home and in NY) and concerned about blind spots (even with blind spot technology). What has been your experience with this? Thanks!
So great to see a new CX-30 video from you! Your earlier CX-30 videos were so helpful in my car buying process-I ended up leasing one and it's been reliable and so fun to drive. Not sure what I'll decide to go with at lease end, but I'm seriously considering sticking with Mazda. If only that piano black + the small gas tank were things they could improve on this model!
Great video, great comments, your presentations are really thorough yet enjoyable, very impartial too, keep up the good work , a really good through analysis of the car, I have a CX 5 and just love it, but my spouse is thinking about getting a new CX30 to replace their 2016 3, We shall see
Thanks for your review. I have a 2024 Select Sport. I found ou that if I left my usb cord atttached to charger port with the engine turned off, it was still charging the phone. In the last 20 years, my other vehicles did not do that. I understand cars that do this can drain the battery down through time. Since where I live has a lot of potholes, I'm going to dread the end of this year with rattles in my car after watching your experience😢
What does everyone think about the brakes on the CX-30? Test drove the 2024 select and sport. Loved the car but the brakes felt like drum brakes! Soft and insufficient in my opinion. For those too young, drum brakes are no bueno. I'm coming out of a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I understand the CX-30 is a crossover so I'm not comparing the two but wow what a difference. I told the sales guy and he was perplexed. There's no way I'm the only one who feels that way. I think it might be a deal breaker for me. Otherwise, I am ready to pull the trigger on one. Do they need a break in period? It was raining slightly if that means anything. Thanks
Last month I purchased a CX5, while I do love it I kind of wish I had got the cx30. Only reason I didn’t get one was because I wanted the Bose. Maybe my next purchase will be the 30.
We are looking at one and may get it. But I’ll get some clear protective tape for it lol. If I apply it carefully most won’t notice it lol. Great video
Great update! Since I just found your channel, I had commented on your red CX 30 but you now have a black one which takes care of the ugly black cladding. Like you I’m totally impressed with my CX 30 turbo!.
Hi James - I found your channel just yesterday as I consider buying the CX-30 non-turbo Premium. Your videos have been very helpful, thank you. Could you do a video on any accessories that you may have tried or feel are great for the CX-30 now that you've owned it for some time? I was looking at things on Amazon and saw a few that may be interesting and wonder at your experience. The ones I'd like your thoughts on are: 1) cell phone holder (see Sunsdrew car phone holder for the CX-30), 2) Screen protector - do you have one? Is this a dumb question to definitely get one or not bother, 3) Sun visor for screen - is glare an issue you've noticed, especially in a sunny location like SoCal? 4) door handle organizers (TTCR-II) and center console organizers. 5) Lastly, a proper fitting windshield shade/cover.... Appreciate your opinions and keep up the great work!
Hi James, thanks for sharing your experiences after 25K miles. I have a question about the AGM battery as an owner of a Mazda 3. Was there any concerns about installing an AGM, I remember reading online that these cars were built for lead acid batteries so AGM batteries might not be appropriate. Is that incorrect? I want to consider an upgrade over the OEM battery Mazda uses but have been hesitant on what the “best” option would be.
Your good to go with the AGM battery, the diffrence in charging a standard lead acid and AGM is in the initial and finishing charge s=cycle while usung a battery charger. That is not and issue in a cars charging system.
Thinking about getting a 2024 CX30 also, but the rear seat kind of made me take a step back and think about CX5 as it will sometimes need to pick up 5’8” ppl and also planning to have kids so need to make sure it is large enough to place a baby seat while it is easy to put the kiddo in and out. Is there any thought about that? Personally is 5’8” and my wife is like 5’4” so front should be fine (?)
2021 Mazda 3 NA engine now has 22 miles. I had clear coat failure from a wheel. Got that replaced under warranty. The center dummy speaker does rattle but that’s all. If I leave my car door open for let’s say 15 minutes my battery will drain and have to jump it lol. The instrument cluster screen is really soft plastic. So I have a few love marks. I’m wondering if I can get that replacement under warranty or not. I had to replace my driver side sun visor. It was no longer staying in place. So it was covered under warranty.
I love my CX-30 that I purchased almost two months ago. I am so glad that I decided to get it over another brand/car. I really like your videos about this car. You are really thorough and detailed about everything.
Your battery is 3 Fold. 1-Part short trips pulling voltage out of a low battery = more heat internally which leads to issues. 2-You have no idea how long that battery or its creation. Note, the time frame and supply chain at the time of manufacture led to a number of electronics being garbage at all levels. 3. Where you live. I'm in a desert and batteries don't live long here. But on the other side if you live in places that freeze and also exceed 100F, (37~38C,) you will notice batter life goes out the window fast. - Especially if you compound issues 1 and 2 into this equation.
Thought I wanted this car last year, but after a short test drive I wasn't overly impressed. The cx30 seemed very cramped. Very little elbow room and had to duck to get in. I'm only 5ft 9. I sat in the Cadillac XT4 and had plenty of room.
It is cramped lol what did you expect? It’s a tiny car. Should have been shopping for a Mazda CX-5. You must have had the worlds crummiest sales person if he didn’t steer you away from that little ass CX-30. I sold them for years. I never took anyone to that small thing first, I’d let them tell me they want the smallest Mazda they can get besides the Miata.
@@2004cyrus no one needs to steer me to another model. I choose what I want to look at and test drive. I'm always the boss when spending my money. The CX 30 is not tiny looking but the inside is cramped. Yes the cx5 has more room which I sat in but was overpriced. Heck there's more space in Soul than a CX30.
@@nysavvy9241 wow you have the thickest skill I’ve ever had the misfortune of talking to. What did you expect of a tiny CX-30? Yes it’s cramped in the back seat… I get it. They are selling like hot cakes so people taller than you make it work. The soul? Really that’s a larger car. Not a subcompact. You are all over the board and not talking apples to apples. The CX-5 was out of your price range. It is not over priced- everyone says it’s underpriced. You can get one for $25,000 brand new. The S model entry level. Anyone who chooses a Kia anything over a Mazda needs their head examined. You didn’t do any research. You should have been steered to an entry level CX-5. The Kia is silly looking. You aren’t a woman.
Hi, in your manual, do you have info about when you need to change the brake fluid and the differential fluid? I'm planning to buy a cx30 & try to look at the maintenance schedule on the mazda website, but it did not show about brake fluid and differential. Thanks for the info
Is that battery pretty normal on most cars? Or just this Mazda? How long was it idle? I’m in the market for this too but how you got me concerned 😂 I’ve had a battery die once I left car idle for a long time.
Awesome news. I would have done the same thing with the battery too. Not worth the bother really. I do have a question though. You change ur own oil, why not rotate the tires yourself? Just curious. Thanks for the content, keep it up.
Just depends on whether I'm busy or if feel like working on the car :) Also one rotation was free with some coupon IIRC so I just had the shop do it. Cheers
Hello from California! About 2-4 miles each trip. We haven't changed the tires yet, so I'll be curious what will happen to cabin noises if we eventually do.
Went to a Mazda dealership 4/6/24 to check out a brand new CX-30. Right off the bat the car would not unlock on the driver's side after numerous "clicks". The embarrassed salesman had to go to the rider's side to reach across to open the driver''s door. We instantly ruled this car out because what even if the driver's side wouldn't have opened and with no door key option what would you do???? Reliability at mileage "0" is a major issue. I am afraid to buy any Mazda product.
Hey James! Great video. Did you perform any transmission reset steps or just let the transmission learn your driving style? My new CX30 with 2.5k miles is gear hunting when i hit the throttle. also how many miles are your short trips?( asking because I take short trips as well and don't want to hurt my battery). with many short trips and 1 long trip(200 miles) per month, the alternator should charge the battery fully right?
No transmission reset; just let the car do its thing. Our short trips are often 2-4 miles. I'd guess you're right re: one long trip per month being sufficient to charge the battery!
Oil change three times in 25,000 miles??? In Australia these are specified for 6,000 miles OR 12 month, whichever comes first. Ours has had one extra than yours with full synthetic. Your intervals are really pushing it for such a complex engine. @@JamesPlaysWithCars
Hey James, Do you find the engine to be abnormally loud for a car with this type of engine? I noticed that the engine of my 2022 cx 30 (same engine as 2021) started getting louder after about 5,000 miles and when driving above 40 mile/hr and there is this loud droning sound when I leave my foot off the gas pedal, similar to if you were to downshift too much while cruising at high speed.
I have had a '22 Turbo Premium Plus for a year and half now....this car's build quality is terrible. I am currently dealing with a 3rd creaking issue, this one from the center console/gearshift area -- the dealer doesn't take it seriously. My previous 2 issues ended up being faulty parts (a front control arm then a door-lock acutator)....when the car was still pretty new. Mazda has up the quality control in Mexico, or move the CX-30's production to the U.S.
You don't do "offroad" and "bad weather" there much , I take it-- and I'd be curious about that-- I'm up in the mountains- no short trips- and I do have some " offroad" to do- (dirt road some) and get lots of wet deep snow sometimes in winter... and just curious. Sarah-n-tuned on here did an offroad test and this little thing out did some jeeps!!! I'm torn between THIS and a CX-50 which I like the styling of. BUT- I'm running out of time- when I get ready to get mine- there most liikely won't be any of the 2023s left in the desing and colors I want..
For the most part, modern Mazda engines are extremely reliable even if you're not OCD about oil changes. My wife's previous CX-5 went 270,000 miles with oil changes every 6-8k. I wouldn't let her put anything other than synthetic in it, but I couldn't control the frequency, which was all over the place. The only problem she ever had was a bad coil pack, and it was still running great when she sold it.
BMW owners shocked that tires can last that long. Hehe. On a serious note, I traded in my mazda3 because the headroom was getting claustrophobic and getting into and out the car was difficult.
76 y old driving this jewel, doing all that online stuff and researching through youtube, I wish I had a grandma this fun.
That's so sweet
@@kentoshogun1987 Thank you, I am blessed to be healthy and active. Most of my friends are much younger than I am and that helps me stay young.
The color name of “Snowflake White…” is a REALLY unfortunate name (as the original meaning has changed in a BIG way during the last decade). However, the physical color helps keep the car much, much cooler in the Summer. Congratulations on your purchase!
I’ve had a CX-30 for about a year and I’m very dissatisfied. Never again. Read me review comment on here.
40k miles on my 2020 CX30 awd Premium and I'm getting 31.7 mpg. Love my CX30
Hey man, I’m looking at getting one of these as well, still feeling super happy with the car?
@@Dakotashipton very much so! even better then my previous 2008 Honda CRV!!
Put some real tires on the car. Spend some money. I recommend tires that are quiet and excellent in the rain.
Put some real tires on the car. Spend some money. I recommend tires that are quiet and excellent in the rain.
Agree about the sound of the non-turbo engine, it kind of reminds me of a bunch of angry bees when I’m accelerating!🤪
I was at the dealership yesterday, almost traded in my 22 Cx30 just couldn't let it go..Im going to upgrade tires and rims instead. Thanks James..
I want a car like this so badly, even if it wouldn't be too comfy back there.
Mine lasted 5 years. Seems pretty good to me.
Hey James, you can purchase a Carbon overlay for your center council and it will not show scratch marks. purchase on line. looks great on my cx=30.
That’s what I’m ordering for my 2021 Mazda CX-5 from Amazon. The piano black is bound to get scratched over the years no matter gentle I am.
@@2004cyrusMay have to look into that for my CX 50!
You're better off using the cloth that you clean eye glasses with.
great video, as a new ish cx30 owner, I’m glad to hear those details.
True. my CX 5 had 7500 miles oil change interval per manual, I was wondering why?!
Just purchased our 2025 CX-30 Select Sport in November 2024! It's an upgrade from our 2007 Toyota Prius.
I’m super happy with my CX30 and yes I will keep it
I have the 2021 turbo and as much as I love it, I'm already on my 3rd battery.
Something happened with my rear suspension as well. I started driving one day and it was loud and felt sluggish. They replaced it all under warranty.
My Cx30 non turbo mpg has increased too. Avg 32mpg but I’m a VERY gentle driver.
Transmission is still learning I believe
IMO
Hmmm... tempting
Great video! I'm noticing similar wear on my 2013 Mazda 3 after 175,000 miles
Nice video. I'm currently looking at the comparison between the CX5 and the CX30, so still gathering all the info I can.
Me too ! I was moving towards the CX 5 , but now ,,,,,, I’m going to rethink again. Thanks for the video ❤
Your videos helped us decide on a CX-30 2.5S. It's got smaller rims so it's got a softer ride.
We're getting about 34 mpg with 50/50 city/hwy driving.
Thanks for the videos. Any chance for a spark plug replacement vid?
I just bought a 2024 CX50 base model and i love it.
Thanks for your videos. Just got a turbo premium plus! Hope to enjoy it as well as you did.
Hi James I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video and you're very informative on the information that you bringing I just wanted to tell you great job man and I hope like life is going well and you are awesome
I have some rattling from the exact same spot you pointed out. Still love it though. Awesome video 👍🏾
I just bought a brand new Mazda cx30 carbon edition. I’m super nervous about it because it’s a big car payment but I hope it’s worth it. Thank your for the informative video.
I bought a 21 mazda3 with 31,000 miles. after 2 weeks the computer figured out my driving style and it was way more responsive.
Where'd this man go
Michelin Cross Climates are the best IMO. I have 70k on mine and will need to replace them as they just became a little noisy. But quietest and best balance between summer grip, snow, some light off road, and hard rains. I’ve driven through all of it.
agree about the tires... my 3 came with Yokohama years ago and ever since then I use them.
Thanks!
Good it's working it for you.
Thanks
Thank you.
Great video
Thank you, thank you for sharing and posting the video.
Great update! Since I just found your channel, I had commented on your red CX 30 but you now have a black one which takes care of the ugly black cladding. Like you I’m totally impressed with my CX 30 turbo!.
Nice, I’ve been looking at this car.
20 months in- 36,000 miles. No issues (Knock on wood). Tires and brakes are probably going to last to 75k+. 90% highway driving
Thank you for the awesome review! How do you feel about the visibility?
Can you please do a video on how you top up the battery?
Mazda is wonderful
great video!
is there a way to measure the current charge of the battery?
I love my CX-30 that I purchased almost two months ago. I am so glad that I decided to get it over another brand/car. I really like your videos about this car. You are really thorough and detailed about everything.
There is a fix for the rattles you can let it fix on warranty. In actual Modell it doesnt appear anymore.
You should check your alternator. 2 years from a battery seems a little short.
Great video James . What did you all cross ship this against before you leased / purchased it?
So now the '24 model now made/assembled in Mexico, not Japan?
Nice little machine..
This was like the perfect video for me. Moved from camaro to this, I am about replace my mustang lol
Due to gas prices or what?
Yeah, bit of that (I am based in Europe so gas here is $$$$) and getting old I guess lol@@2004cyrus
I changed my tires way quiter now.
I am about to get a 24 cx30 carbon edition. Where are you on your cx30 now?
Were you usin the ISTOP Idling system?
Awesome news. I would have done the same thing with the battery too. Not worth the bother really. I do have a question though. You change ur own oil, why not rotate the tires yourself? Just curious. Thanks for the content, keep it up.
Just depends on whether I'm busy or if feel like working on the car :) Also one rotation was free with some coupon IIRC so I just had the shop do it. Cheers
Did you ever had a time when your gas cap door didn’t open. The dealership says there is not a fix.
On my 1992 Volvo 940 and my 1993 Volvo 240 nothing broke after 500,000 miles.
you need to change both engine and cabin air flter already since you are doing short trip a lot
Hi.
What were the short distances you mention?
Did the sounds in the cabin go away after changing the tires?
Greetings from Poland!
Hello from California! About 2-4 miles each trip. We haven't changed the tires yet, so I'll be curious what will happen to cabin noises if we eventually do.

OK. Thank you for Your answer :)
I'd guess you're right re: one long trip per month being sufficient to charge the battery!
thanks James!@@JamesPlaysWithCars
Where should I place my air freshener in this car? Not on top of the dashboard area. Under the seats?
Yes or in the back storage pocket
does it matter which seat? its one of those dispenser things so I can't put it in a storage pocket @@2004cyrus
@@MattGarcyaDC yes put it under the passenger seat.
8,000 miles between oil changes? I presumed if you expect 200k + you go full synthetic every 4k miles?
For the most part, modern Mazda engines are extremely reliable even if you're not OCD about oil changes. My wife's previous CX-5 went 270,000 miles with oil changes every 6-8k. I wouldn't let her put anything other than synthetic in it, but I couldn't control the frequency, which was all over the place. The only problem she ever had was a bad coil pack, and it was still running great when she sold it.
The book has long ass intervals between oil changes.
BMW owners shocked that tires can last that long. Hehe. On a serious note, I traded in my mazda3 because the headroom was getting claustrophobic and getting into and out the car was difficult.
What did you get?
Baby Porsche Macan? Let's try and keep it real. Dang are you cute!
