Thank you for sharing this recipe. I made it today. I followed the recipe exactly as you have it here.....It was incredible! Moist, soft, flavorful and the texture was wonderful! 5 stars from me!
seriously you are my FAVOURITE cooking channel on youtube. your explanation is perfect and EVERY SINGLE recipe i have tried came out perfect and trust me i have been trying A LOT i especially love the turtle brownies *_* please continue making vids they are so detailed and fool proof to be honest. i wish you the best of health!! bye bye from Jamaica
Made this for today (Mother’s day) and it was a big hit. Absolutely delicious. Never heard of this type of cake where I live. In the Southwest. And now it’s a family favorite. Elegant spin on the banana bread! Great recipe ! Thank you!
I baked this cake this weekend. I could not be happier with the results! I can't wait to bake one for the office. This could very well become my "specialty" cake, as it has now become my favorite dessert recipe. I substituted cake flour. To help reduce doming, I used a set of those damp strips that go around the pans. That seemed to have added a few minutes to the baking time, which started to concern me; however, it all ended well. :) Thank you, Stephanie! And welcome to Coastal Georgia!
I made this cake Sunday night for dessert. I must tell you that my family ate almost the whole cake. My sister, who is not a cake eater, loved this cake. Thank you for the recipe. I will be making it again, probably for my friends at Christmas.
I've been making this cake for many years. It is always a hit. The name is said to come from a room full of people eating the cake ....MMMMMMMM ( because it's so good) sounds like a hummingbird.
This recipe is too good and tastes so delicious that my entire family loved it. All i did was to reduce the amount of sugar and it paired well with the sweetness of the bananas and pineapple. Thanks for sharing:) loved it !
I came across this recipe as a kitchen hand in a Aged Care Facility. I made it for the residents, which they loved reminding them of days gone by. Several residents came down to thank me which I admit was a gorgeous great tasting cake.
Have you ever put this receipe on Pinterest ? I believe this is the best Humming Bird cake recipe, I've ever read, watched... I must make one ... You give great directions with some life baking skills you've learned along the way. It looks so good.
Oohhh my god !!! this cake is delicious, I made it last night, and I can't stop eating all by myself ! the combination of the pineapple and the bananas soo good, and the cream cheese frosting wonderful, the pecans gives to the frosting a delicious taste ! thank U for sharing this good recipes! I am a big fan of your videos! sooo goood ! hugs from Honduras , Central America
I always find when I want to bake something You make it so much more simple than others Hummingbird Cake originally from Jamaica and it had coconut instead of pecans Pecans were add to the cake when Americans came back from Jamaica on the 40's and 50's very popular in the USA during the 60's & 70's Coconut is really fabulous with this cake also use coconut oil Enjoy your baking 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
One of the best food videos I have seen. No editing out parts for the sake of brevity and leaving us to wonder, for example, how long do I actually stir this? Thank you.
Whenever I need a new recipe I will stop by your channel. I have made numerous of your recipes such as banana cake, cheese cakes. Madeline’s and so many more! Thank you so much for your wonderful thorough recipes! I enjoy them very much!
This cake looks like a winner. I am going to try it. I made your coconut cream pie for supper tonight and there is nothing left. It was the best coconut pie we have ever eaten. Thank you.
Love Hummingbird cake! Grew up in the southern part of the U.S. and this is a spring staple. Thanks so much for sharing it and for making a traditional version of this classic.
Hi Stephanie, thank you so much for yet another beautiful cake recipe. I am so gonna try this one! I am a great fan of your baking and love the way you walk us through each ingredient with measurements as well! Not many people do that here! Each time when I want to try a new cake recipe, I always make sure to check if you do have similar one. If you do, I will always drop the one I have and follow yours! I look forward to see more of your upcoming videos!
Thanks Steph! I was getting tired of making banana bread with my ripened bananas, and I do love pineapple, and pecans! This looks like a winner for me and the family!!
OMG I love and I mean I love your videos! You really give us fool proof and delicious recipes! I'm a baker too and I have to say I absolutely love that you always give out the recipes in volume and in weight, I'm a scale freak so for me that is the way to go to always get perfect results! I have the same Kenwood model and as it is fairly new was wondering if you did the thing about adjusting the hight of the beater, I kind of remember I read something like that on the instructions booklet but some how haven't got the time to go around it again! TIA Cheers from Argentina!
I keep watching your videos all day long and just now I couldn´t help but to wander how you manage to stay in such a great shape - I mean with all these sweet cakes and short breads and cookies ;-) I myself love to cook and, unfortunately, eat too much. xxx from Kyoto, Japan
Love your videos, Stephanie. I'm planning on trying your tiramisu recipe this weekend. I've just mastered baking my own ladyfingers. After that, this cake is next on my list! I love your personality and the way you instruct. I also love the fact that you give measurements by weight. Thanks for doing what you do. I'm a male in my 50's and just now learning the Joys of Baking!
Hummingbird cake is sometimes touted as a "Southern classic", but it is not. Not sure of its origins, someone below says Jamaica which makes sense, but Southern Living made it famous in the 80s/90s. That pan looks more like 10" than 9", but perhaps three 8" layers would make a less flat final appearance and give more frosting per bite? It is truly incredibly delicious - neither the banana nor the pineapple dominate the taste, but blend into something greater. Not far removed from carrot cake, but far more moist and flavorful. Great video!
I made this cake and was told it was one of my best creations. Stunning recipe. However I will say next time I’m going to reduce the pineapple water a little because I needed to keep it in the oven way longer than stated- I think it made my batter too wet. Otherwise it was BRILL. Definitely recommend.
You are an amazing cooking teacher. You are precise, tell the measurements so everyone is happy, give people confidence in your demonstration which makes people think that even they too can make it and you give all your tips as well. You are excellent to watch & the first person I look for if I need to know anything about cooking. Thanks so much. Cheers 😘😍❤️😊🥰💕
Stephanie: Thanks for your professional baking videos. You are surely helping thousands of people to learn to bake properly. I have one question. Of late, I have been reducing the sugar in my recipes by about 2 tablespoons of sugar because, the people I know are not eating a lot of sweet things any longer and that is fine. I have one problem and would like to know if you have a solution for getting the icing not to taste so sweet. I don't want to make the icing runny, but I find I that I don't like the very sweet icing any longer. I have to ice the cakes when I take them to functions.
I'm gonna butt in... suggest you try Swiss meringue buttercream or Italian meringue buttercream- totally delicious and not so sweet...but VERY buttery!!! Don't be put off by the method of making it, couple times and you'll find you could make it in your sleep!! There are a multitude of tutorials on YT. Good luck!
This is a very good recipe. I always order Hummingbird cake when I visit Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Cafe but this cake is much more tasty. I follow exactly all the instructions and ingredients except I use walnuts instead of pecans which hardly get in Malaysia.
This cake is fantastic and taste so good I've made 2 now following your recipe and both times it was perfect last time I made it I added some passion fruit to it and it tasted amazing also
I have made this cake for Thanksgiving and Christmas for many, many years and can't believe someone has made a video of the recipe and putting it together . Firstly,i have always used self-rising flour(this omits using all-purpose flour and then adding baking soda and salt as the self rising flour already has salt and baking powder in it so why the extra steps she is using is beyond me) but she makes it her way and i make it the way the pastry instructor told us about the different types of flour(bread flour self rising flour, cake flour, all purpose, rice flour and etc, etc). On the bananas, you can also use banana baby food but it just tastes better when using bananas that you finely chop or even smash(i use my food processor for this and get them to almost a liquid stage). Also, she mentions you can use olive oil or canola oil in this cake and that isn't true. I have made this cake with olive oil and canola oil and it ALWAYS comes out VERY oily so use vegetable oil. My recipe that i have been using for like i said many, many years will make a three layer cake(9" round). Her measurements compared to my recipe are all exactly the same. When i was the pastry chef at the convention center here where i live people LOVED this cake and always asked me for the recipe. If you follow this recipe it is fool proof. You can't mess it up unless you don't follow the recipe. It's always moist and so,so ,so rich and great with a cup of coffee or a big glass of milk. One thing i noticed with her demonstration is if she used all the measurements in the recipe i have, and she did,she should have enough batter for 3 9" layer cakes so i don't know if they edited that or not.Anyway, happy baking.
That's one hell of a cake.. Worth making it for special occasions or for celebrations.. Love it, love the idea of using both mashed bananas and crushed pineapple in one cake.. Just one thought Stephanie, is it ok if I moderate the sugar amount for this recipe from 2 cups to 1 cup ? Also is it ok to use light brown sugar for this recipe?
I would say: Just try it out! The use of brown sugar should be absolutely fine, and if you don´t like your cake too sweet, then just reduce the amount of sugar :)
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you always converting temperatures and weights into metric.
Thank you
Amen to that.
@@persilbran American and I dont even use them but I know the math by memory is sometimes easier so, indeed I enjoy her methods hreatly. So specific.
Me too!
Have not watched in a while. Yours is one of the top baking sites on TH-cam if not the best. Thanks.
I agree!
Turning cups to grams like a BOSS!
This is Aunt Rosemary's favorite. I will make this for her 94th birthday coming up soon.

wow, I've never heard of this cake. It looks fantastic, a nice one for Mother's Day!
This cake is sooooo good! It would be perfect for Mother's Day!
I have made these for years, but I don't frost it or add nuts at all. It is perfect without them.
Reply its a Jamaican cake.
Cherokee Heart CT I’m referring to the origin of the cake.
Cherokee Heart CT yeah I know it was a rename from it’s original. I also think the ingredients have been changed a tad bit too.
Have you ever put this receipe on Pinterest ?

Love the random appearances of your cute dog hahaha !
One of the best food videos I have seen. No editing out parts for the sake of brevity and leaving us to wonder, for example, how long do I actually stir this? Thank you.
From what I’ve read the cake is Jamaican in origin. The hummingbird is their national bird.
Jamaican? I know the Dark Rum Fruit Cake has Jamaican origins...
That is where I first ate and fell in love with this cake..it use to be called Dr bird cake ..that is also what the hummingbird is called in Jamaica.
That’s what I’ve heard also.
Whenever I need a new recipe I will stop by your channel. I have made numerous of your recipes such as banana cake, cheese cakes. Madeline’s and so many more! Thank you so much for your wonderful thorough recipes! I enjoy them very much!
