I wonder if it doesn't save time to wait for the clock to hit 0:30 in SLZ3 and SBZ1 to save time in results screen, since it takes a lot of time to count down 50k score, but 10k go somewhat fast
I believe the tradeoff is "if you're sub-0:24, it's faster to take the 50k than to wait" (since it looks like it does the count as 100/frame at 60fps, meaning a 400-frame - or 6 2/3 second - difference). That having been said, his run is trying to optimize total stage time, rather than total recording time (if recording time were being optimized, GHZ1, MZ3, SYZ2, LZ2, and LZ3 would also be put out to the 0:30 mark exactly; this would shorten the recording by about 17.5 seconds).
Egix Itchiford Sonic was never a well coded series (but the Genesis games were definitely more playable and stable looking than Adventure 1, especially DX). It’s a miracle the first game even works with unfixed illegal instructions.
Never knew there was a Sonic 1 cam hack that forced focus on Sonic. Kinda wish it was implemented in every game since sometimes the scrolling couldn't keep up. Funi zip goes brrr
I wonder if it's ever worth taking a second or two longer in order to get a lesser time bonus, and so spend less time on the points screen at the end of a level.
The end of every act always brings up a results screen that is impossible to skip as a part of the vanilla Sonic 1 game (and more titles). Unless you can find a way to exploit the game (without exterior assistance that is) to skip it, then it's not fair play.
Oh, so it actually is unskippable? Guess my memory on that was off, but the last time I played this game was in 2002 on the GameCube's Sonic Mega Collection. Thanks for the response.

I wonder if it doesn't save time to wait for the clock to hit 0:30 in SLZ3 and SBZ1 to save time in results screen, since it takes a lot of time to count down 50k score, but 10k go somewhat fast
I believe the tradeoff is "if you're sub-0:24, it's faster to take the 50k than to wait" (since it looks like it does the count as 100/frame at 60fps, meaning a 400-frame - or 6 2/3 second - difference).
That having been said, his run is trying to optimize total stage time, rather than total recording time (if recording time were being optimized, GHZ1, MZ3, SYZ2, LZ2, and LZ3 would also be put out to the 0:30 mark exactly; this would shorten the recording by about 17.5 seconds).

Egix Itchiford Sonic was never a well coded series (but the Genesis games were definitely more playable and stable looking than Adventure 1, especially DX). It’s a miracle the first game even works with unfixed illegal instructions.

How come in speed runs of this game you're not allowed to skip the end stage results to proceed faster?
The end of every act always brings up a results screen that is impossible to skip as a part of the vanilla Sonic 1 game (and more titles). Unless you can find a way to exploit the game (without exterior assistance that is) to skip it, then it's not fair play.
