You should have probably tried the sky sanctuary glitch with tails, since the glitched color scheme that Sonic and knuckles would actually fit the story for Tails having been the inspiration for Kitsunami
People who have watched the tv show of Sonic Boom have stated it's most definitely the best thing to come out of the Sonic Boom universe. So it's worth a watch at least.
Fun fact about red sonic:when in the gambling special stage, when leaving it,there is a quick moment when knuckles will turn into red sonic,I think it only works in s&k but it might also work in s3&k Edit:I’m pretty sure it only works in sonic and knuckles and not sonic 3 and knuckles, also it happens as the screen fades into black making it hard to see,if you want to get a good look,I’d recommend using an emulator and slowing the game down to see it,or just slow it down using editing software
i was going to make a video like this, except instead of like explaining it, i was just gonna mess around with them lol. great video though!! also, you should totally talk about rankles the otter :)
not really that you missed anything, but to bring some explanation on Amy's palette change is due to hers replacing the one used on the badniks, if she's nearby, her palette is loaded on top of the bandit's, but out of her range and she uses their colors. Which explains why 2 different zones have her in different colors. Most of the palette swaps are either borrowing from an element, a character, enemies, etc. Or it can result in palette corruption such as Ashura or the Sonic Mania palettes. I do think the Tails glitch of Flynn is due to another corruption that brings a Bluckles type of Tails, just like the Red Sonic, but those may only be achieved through game genie/shark codes. Regardless a pretty good in-depth video about those obscure palette swaps! Just like your other videos, a ton of passion and extensive research with a little touch of humor is exactly what makes them so good learn of. How insane is all of this to be searched for? Great video as always! I wish you good luck with the rest and hope you have a fine end of your year!
TH-cam recommendations finally pulling through!! Amazing video, it's cool to see people talking about these glitches, I've always been interested in the funny glitches in the older sonic games! Also, I love the song choices in this video, I was introduced to a good couple of good songs to check out because of it, so thank you!
Thanks! I've been listening to a lot of those video game drum&bass and jungle mixes. There's plenty of good ones if you want to hear some more good tunes.
I appreciate making this video Johnny, I really enjoyed your videos talking about these fan glitchy characters cuz they look very interesting and have unique story, keep up the good work Johnny
yo Johnny! I've got quite the interesting glitch to share (unless somebody else has already shared it) in the mobile versions of Sonic 1 & 2, for this to work you need to activate debug mode and have super sonic available. after entering a level, either grab 50 rings on it by yourself or spawn a 'Super' monitor to turn Super, now, i said this glitch was interesting, but i didn't exactly say it was fun to perform. you need to wait until the *ring counter* is about to reach *0* now hear me out and do exactly as i say, when you're at 10 rings you're going to need to pay attention to the counter, follow the rhythm of the changing numbers, when you're just about to turn back into regular Sonic- *use the debug mode to turn back into an object at the very moment Sonic de-transforms* if you've followed these steps correctly you should be able to turn into a Pseudo Super Sonic, Sonic will still look like Super Sonic but instead he's blue but without any invincibility or super speed. if this didn't quite work for you after attempting it multiple times, i apologize for being unclear, or i fear that they might have patched it... i discovered this glitch back then when i was messing about with the debug mode and i thought "what if you could stop Sonic from transforming back to normal?"
some notes i felt were needed: Pseudo super sonic will only work in that specific zone you perform the glitch in, after finishing that act, Sonic will revert back to his regular state a little fun fact i can share is that he actually was a glitch present in the early releases of Sonic Mania! Son Of A Glitch has a video on it if you're curious, he covers it in one of his Mania vids :)
There’s also the reverse, spawn super moniters with debug mode and spindash into them, right before sonic transforms go into debug mode and Sonic will go super but his quills and sprites will be normal. Just tried it again and it still works
Speaking of glitchy recolors, I remember there's a trick with Knuckles' ending where you can basically lock up the ending animation and just keep it focused on the Angel Island keeping floating in place with debug mode. As clouds are starting to rise, your character (whether it's Knuckles or Sonic) suddenly changes their colors to those of clouds (blue-ish white) with deep blue as secondary color. Basically the Red Sonic part but just the blues. Back then I named this glitched anomaly as "Noralis" and even made a video about it back then (there's no significance, I was just a kid). Those were the times...
I once found a glitch that gave Tails the same color as the master emerald, i think it had something to do with either putting tails in doomsday zone, or using tons of super monitors when fighting Mecha Sonic as tails, in the knuckles mecha sonic fight. Either way, I remember it appearing in the bad end cutscene, with Eggman and the master emerald, where Tails had the same pallet as the master emerald, and was cycling through all his animations at fast speeds
There was another glitch in Sonic 3 & Knuckles that I remember seeing when I was a kid. If you play as Sonic and get the bad end screen after the Death Egg final boss (where it's just a black screen with Eggman with the Master Emerald), and switch in and out of debug mode, you see... get this... Ashura. Or at least I remember it looking like him. I don't know if it was normal Sonic or with the Hyper Sonic transformation that it looked like Ashura but I distinctly remember that it did.
So I have something (definitely didn’t discover but it’s cool) if you spin dash into a super monster with all super emerald in sonic3&k origins (with debug obv) and then almost immediately enter debug mode you can get a weird glitched hyper sonic
I think Cyborg Tails might have been an inspiration for the metal virus, with Ian talking about a different glitch he got that wasnt well known, such as possibly a blue tails, as inspiration for kitsunami
I love these types of glitches, im pretty sure its also possible to get a blue super sonic in mania or mania plus, i cant remember which version it was
yeah! actually, this glitch predates it's appearance in Mania as it originally appeared in both mobile versions of Sonic 1 & 2, i already made a comment about this so i won't go too much in-depth
the reason why these glitches don't appear in sonic origins is because it uses complete remakes of the original games, in the same engine that sonic mania was made in. Sonic CD on steam (now delisted) was the first official sonic game on the engine (there's a fangame by the devs that came before mania), followed by sonic 1 and then sonic 2 both releasing on mobile. then came mania, then origins ported in those remakes of sonic 1, cd, and 2, as well as introduced a remake of S3K that was built off Mania and even has remnants of it if you poke around. but yeah, the Origins versions aren't genesis games in the slightest, they're modern games in a modern engine, so you just plainly won't get the same kinds of glitches you see in the genesis games. they _do_ use a palette system, so you can get weird palette glitches, but they're generally much tamer and more controlled than on the genesis.
So you did find something fascinating in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. For example, Score/Rings Sonic. Knuckles also had a different palette when playing as Sonic or Tails.
there's a separate red sonic in sonic 3, who is essentially the opposite of blue knuckles, which is just a sonic that the game treats as knuckles, but it comes from a game genie code rather than a glitch this one is definitely youtuber redhotsonic because he has red shoes
There was a video by ALTV showing on how to get red sonic and in that video the 2 sonics were given a name by him having the blue one named icicle while the red one named flame I think it's best to think that the red sonic with blue shoes would be named flame while the red sonic with red shoes would be redhot sonic
My favorite thing to do in the Sonic and Knuckles Collection for PC was to play them in the wrong final stages and get those palette swaps. The bonus was that it'd sometimes glitch the game and send me to a different game's title screen afterwards.
Bluckles is just funny and a very easy pun to make, and the real reason they don't work in re-releases using the Retro Engine is also why they work on original hardware. All graphics in the originals were limited to a developer-defined color palette, and the Retro Engine as far as I understand. Defaults to no palette-limitations, as the real limit of modern hardware is color encoding like RGB, for all intents and purposes infinite colors. So I doubt they were fixed on purpose, but just a byproduct of no palette limitations. Had no idea about the Amy one, and even as a fan I agree. We all know she's pink as a cheap way to say "She's the girl" but I don't fault them much, ancient trope even by 90s standards EDIT: Closing remark about lore and stuff reminded me of the comment I made on Chaomix's vid, Nazo was our Ashura in that sense. Ascribing meaning to something without it
I remember I accidentally got blue knuckles while playing on mega collection plus using the first method, and at the time the only documented method I could find to unlock him was through using action replay codes, and I genuinely felt like I had found a brand new undocumented glitch, lol
3:05 From experience, I can assure this method is more of a hit-and-miss, as someone who tried it on Sonic Mega Collection. Luckily when playing on Mega Collection, this won't crash the GameCube itself, as you can always easily just press Z, and soft-reset by selecting Game Title. What can happen after that is either no result, the level select/debug codes being deactivated, or the glitch working successfully, as you've showcased with the Carnival Night method. There was also one point where I got the flooded Angel Island to appear with corrupt graphics, while the title card said "Zone Zone", but I've never been able to recreate it.
Theres a glitch in sonic 3 and knuckles where you can replace Knuckles tileset with the bubble shields tileset. Using debug mode in angel island and atbsome point breakna bubble shield it looked a lot like that ring tileset character shown in the segment on how to get bluckles.

There was a SINGLE time Sonic Adventure bugged out in Hot Shelther, i dont know what i did or if it was modded, but taking the part where the bridge changes, Sonic's textures got changed to a weird mess of the stage textures.
Eh, I hope you do take suggestions, can you please talk about Amy Rouge? She's supposedly a mod in Sonic Adventure 2, and I honestly love her so much! The pink, white and black palette outfit of rouge works so perfectly for her to a point I thought it looked better on her than the red outfit she normally wears. Before I fled a certain sonic fan game community due to usual art community drama nonsense, I did have an idea of trying to design a whole new look for Bluckles. As with all things in the modern internet go, once the environment I was in burned me out, I decided to say screw it, I would rather go do actual game design elsewhere instead.
The fact that Blue Knuckles and Red Sonic are actual playable characters in the game will never not be hilarious. Sadly, technical jank like that rarely if ever exists in modern games.
Can you cover the black super glitch that still happens in mania? I find it interesting because usually if ive tried to find any other color palletes, its always black. The only characters ive seen have this are Knuckles, Tails, and Mighty.

when you're at 10 rings you're going to need to pay attention to the counter, follow the rhythm of the changing numbers, when you're just about to turn back into regular Sonic- *use the debug mode to turn back into an object at the very moment Sonic de-transforms*

Note: the game doesn't NEED to reset itself with the Bluekles glitch. You can do a manual reset of the console and the glitch will work just fine.
3:05 From experience, I can assure this method is more of a hit-and-miss, as someone who tried it on Sonic Mega Collection. Bluckles is my inspiration to create one of my old Sonic OCs...

19:13 This glitch reminds me of Super Mario 64 Chaos Edition, because at random points there will be a rainbow effect on everything.
I love Blue Amy 💙
First time I ever did this glitch was on OG Harware using level select and picked sonic to go to knuckles version of sky sancturary
The sonic boom show is totally worth a watch, many people might think the show is bad since the games is bad, but its the opposite.

6:30 oh hey, it's Joe
the one that also created "dog of wisdom"
That's not Bluckles, that the actual Knuckles trapped in the real world.
21:22 the chucklefection
No you can get blue hyper sonic in debug mode in s3&k origins by spamming a bunch of super boxes and using them
The Sonic Boom cartoon isn’t for everyone, but I assure you, it’s miles better than the Boom games.
Green Amy reminds me of those Dark Gaia creatures from Unleashed, specifically the ones with green on them
What is that shadow the hedgehog texture glitch at the end called it looks cool
Before I fled a certain sonic fan game community due to usual art community drama nonsense, I did have an idea of trying to design a whole new look for Bluckles. As with all things in the modern internet go, once the environment I was in burned me out, I decided to say screw it, I would rather go do actual game design elsewhere instead.
10:57 is literally sonic.exe
15:56 no way!!. Amy is a Constructicon???!!
You’ve never watched Sonic Boom all that much?! I’m shocked.
I haven't but I've had a few recommendations off the back of this video so I'm going to give it a watch
If you do give Sonic Boom at watch, can you do a video on Sticks the Badger? I love her so much!
0:24 hold up this is fire who made this?
Fantastic video, but now we need brown tails. And I have a name for brown tail. Toasty tails
Classic sonic sim be like
Blamy blames it on everything!
The fact that Blue Knuckles and Red Sonic are actual playable characters in the game will never not be hilarious. Sadly, technical jank like that rarely if ever exists in modern games.
Why did I get a video of yours in my roccomended 1 year since i got one last time
Can you cover the black super glitch that still happens in mania? I find it interesting because usually if ive tried to find any other color palletes, its always black. The only characters ive seen have this are Knuckles, Tails, and Mighty.
