Unpainted I don't like the look either especially with how worn out the look is now with all the knock-offs and CF trim obsessions. I think people appreciate older cars way more than they used to. I mean even a 1985 car will still be a good daily driver with fuel injection, AC and ABS. Many of them are also easy to maintain and parts are cheap (for now). Todays car market is so overregulated that the manufacturers simply can't produce a lot of the cars customers want. Nobody can sell you a new diesel truck without a bunch of emissions equipment that will go wrong. Nobody can sell you a no thrills little roadster like the Miata NA today.
    In the last ten years the car market worldwide has become utterly boring. You can get the same Crossovers and compact SUVs from almost all manufacturers and the future holds even worse mandatory EVs for the ones that can use them.
    All of these things cause the good old cars to go up in price dramatically, because people actucally liked what was possible back then.

      Best comment.

    • @AaronSmith-kr5yf
      @AaronSmith-kr5yf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dont know what you're smoking using the Miata as an example. The new one is very faithful in concept/execution to the original 1990 car. Heck it only weighs 200-300lbs more than the og 1990 car, which is just crazy considering how much stricter crash standards are now days

    • @opieg7333
      @opieg7333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carmakers do not make the cars SOME people want, but the majority do not. The number of enthusiasts that want that stripped down miata or high-torque diesel truck are far less than you believe it to be and in such small numbers do not meet the profitability goals of manufacturers. You get the generic cross-over because that is what the majority of buyers want today. It might be boring but it makes money which is the only real goal of a volume manufacturer. Regulation isn't stopping 750hp cars from being produced in any way, shape or form, consumer demand is what limits those offerings.
      Recent price appreciation over the past few years is a mix of factors. On the 80-90's sports car side, there are just more buyers out there as those later 80's and after cars are hitting that time in their lifespan when the kids of that era have the money to purchase them as a "toy". As cars approach that phase, they are often being "totaled out" as spare parts get hard to find and crushed limiting the supply. Its a pretty known pattern and repeats each generation, although the real crappy cars of the 70's didn't move like other generations. Lol, I remember when you could get 60's muscle cars for $1,500 left and right in the 90's, 30 years after they were new. Here we are 30 years after the revival era 80's cars and the deals are coming to an end. People are keeping cars longer because since the mid 80's they tend to be comparably modern to people and with so many econo-box parts out there can be kept alive for cheap.
