One good thing about having lots of cars at the Wizard's, you don't need someone to pick you up when you drop something off. Just time it when something is ready for pick up. But then again, there is the cost of it all.
When I worked at Guldstrand Engineering in the early 90's we specialized in Corvettes & we worked on many movie stars cars, one of which was Arnold's H-1 Hummer where we removed the diesel engine & installed a Vette Tune-Port 350. Arnie came down & loved the thing even doing a 180 over the center divider on the boulevard in front of our shop, he was quite nice & down to earth.
Hoovie, Wheeler Dealers is the ultimate format for this. Half is the wheeling and dealing. Essentially, you're Mike. Half is Ed. That's Wizard. We should have videos documenting the repair. The videos would be well rcvd and you would make more money. Don't leave those videos on the table.
Driving the sprite. When coming to a stop, stay in 2nd until the engine almost starts to die. Then you can shift into 1st just as you stop. Saves crunching the gears.

Wizard, a fellow Army mechanic as was I. I worked on my fair share of those as did I work on 5T, HEMMT, and MLRS Launchers. I think those prices he quoted where a little high in my opinion, especially in terms of time to fix. Lots of those repairs I could have knocked out pretty quickly since most of that stuff is just repetitive work.

Didn't know Hummers had those little features, like a central tyre inflation system! Makes sense, now that I think about it, and also makes sense to buy one if you're doing a type of serious off-roading. Lotta respect to Hoovie and the Wizard for treating it like the vehicle it was designed for. Also love their interaction - really good friends!
Funny thing about the H1 Hummer. It feels so huge, but it's actually smaller than a newer F-150. My uncle had one and it looks small next to my F150. We measured and the H1 is 72.5" wide and the F150 is just under 80"

more so the shafts, you can usually remove the drive shafts without removing the suspension but you're 100% correct: at the very least turn the rotors and replace the pads.
Hummer/hmmwv eats pads quick. They are from the amc eagle! But a simple pad swap can be done on front axle in 15 minutes! The rear has funky park brake so it takes 25 minutes, but hmmwv doesn’t have that so another 15 and done. Super easy. R&R rotor takes 30 minutes each if needed.
I always love seeing which cars Wizard is working on in the background, I used to have an Alfa 164 in black, sadly the chassis turned the same stuff as those rear Hummer control arms as we salt the road in my country :( Also wizard is searching for fine cigars on the same Thinkpad I run, more confirmation he's a man of sophisticated taste!!
I believe these H1 Hummer's have the same ABS control unit as the Land Rover Discovery 2's so pretty much all of the same issues. New shuttle valves and the "Option B" fix typically fix most of the annoying issues as a workaround to replacing the entire modulator block. Hope this helps Hoovie!

I watched the video and every hummer in the inventory had uneven tire wear and tires needed to be replaced. If they neglected the tires I wonder what other maintenance issues are there

After the first video I read up on them on Wikipedia. They were designed to have flip up headlights like a Porsche but then they decided that would cost too much to make so just switched to fixed ones hence the bizarre appearance.
Arnie is the reason this car exists. He drove several humvees on set and then was like "I want one for the road". Hummer was into it, and built him a street version we today know as the H1. From all of them I like the H1 Alpha (300 HP) with the wagon layout the most.
Love the Bugeye! Yes, they always leak. That's "British undercoating", the car marking it's spot, how the Brits keep their roads looking so nice and fresh. Be careful of the electrical system. Lucas components are known to leak smoke at times. Lucas, Prince of Darkness t-shirts and caps are available to purchase in the lobby. You can keep the bright yellow refrigerator. That wiggling wheel is probably the spindle nut. Replace them all with BH locking nuts just to be safe. The leaky T-case isn't the fill plug, it's probably just the cooling loop lines that need to be tightened. You won't be able to pull the ABS codes - you have to jump pins 4 and 15 on the OBD2 port then "Count the blinks". All of the PID's for the H1 are custom.
Only 1st should be non-synchro on that box. My dad's '63 Spitfire was the same, so you had to remember to come to a complete stop to shift into 1st or learn to double clutch.
wasn't quite a drift, more like understeer......I forget which car it was (some british POS) but he put it full lock left and the thing drove straight...it was pathetic lol....

Its not as bad as you think. He has one of those single driver/multi car policies where he is listed as the only driver. Since he can't drive 2 cars at the same time he gets a big discount.
I drove a '64 MG Midget in university. The body was more bondo than sheet metal but somehow it was completely and utterly reliable. Smiths gauges, real bucket seats, pedals perfectly set up for heel and toe shifting, and a short throw gear shift, it was by far the most fun car I've ever driven. Not the most comfortable, not the best handling or braking, certainly not the fastest, it was just sheer entertainment.
Not sure he "forgot" it. Hoovie already said it had no freon in it when he got it, it leaked all the new freon in five days, so Wizard knows there is a bad leak, but not yet just where. Additionally, Wizard knows that considerale damage and new parts may be needed if the system was "open to atmosphere and moisture"- the front condensing coil and the evap coil in the dash may be compromised by internal oxide deposits and corrosion from water entering as humidity. Any number from say $200 to $2000 could be "in the ball park". Hope that helps! BTW, I'm a retired HVAC guy, with Federal ticket for everything but the refrigeration units on tractor trailers and some Conex shippers. FR
I believe the ABS module is shared with just one vehicle, namely the LR Discovery II, it's a Wabco unit. They're a known problem area and there's various rebuild kits available for very little $$ e.g. new internal seals. An easy fix hopefully.
When I drove my first military Hummer I found it odd that there was no "Park" position for the gearshift. You used the emergency brake instead. It sure could navigate the Ft Irwin, CA sand though!

Only 1st should be non-synchro on that box. My dad's '63 Spitfire was the same, so you had to remember to come to a complete stop to shift into 1st or learn to double clutch.

Its not as bad as you think. He has one of those single driver/multi car policies where he is listed as the only driver. Since he can't drive 2 cars at the same time he gets a big discount.

I drove a '64 MG Midget in university. The body was more bondo than sheet metal but somehow it was completely and utterly reliable. Smiths gauges, real bucket seats, pedals perfectly set up for heel and toe shifting, and a short throw gear shift, it was by far the most fun car I've ever driven. Not the most comfortable, not the best handling or braking, certainly not the fastest, it was just sheer entertainment.

Not sure he "forgot" it. Hoovie already said it had no freon in it when he got it, it leaked all the new freon in five days, so Wizard knows there is a bad leak, but not yet just where. Additionally, Wizard knows that considerale damage and new parts may be needed if the system was "open to atmosphere and moisture"- the front condensing coil and the evap coil in the dash may be compromised by internal oxide deposits and corrosion from water entering as humidity. Any number from say $200 to $2000 could be "in the ball park". Hope that helps! BTW, I'm a retired HVAC guy, with Federal ticket for everything but the refrigeration units on tractor trailers and some Conex shippers. FR
I believe the ABS module is shared with just one vehicle, namely the LR Discovery II, it's a Wabco unit. They're a known problem area and there's various rebuild kits available for very little $$ e.g. new internal seals. An easy fix hopefully.

When I drove my first military Hummer I found it odd that there was no "Park" position for the gearshift. You used the emergency brake instead. It sure could navigate the Ft Irwin, CA sand though!

Wizard said he was in the Army, i wonder were he was stationed at. I was a 63T light armored veh repair. I fixed these hmmv's all the dang tyme. Biggest issue was the hub seals failing.
