This is the first time we’ve ever done a test like this - it’s nice to know what a car could do on max range but my preference is still to drive fast and charge fast! I can’t share any details such as official battery capacity (you can guess from the consumption figures) until later next week. Stay tuned for a full deep dive tour of all of the Taycan PA changes coming to this channel. Tomorrow I will show you the charging performance and IT IS WILD! Thanks for watching - ⚡️
Yeah this really REALLY seals that Taycan is the best roadtripper.
Would trade my 22 S for this in a heartbeat
Love the content and channel, but I do have to say this video was cracking me up. "We want to keep it as realistic as possible...", followed by 50mph on a 70mph speed limit highway, not using windshield wipers in the rain, and looking through tiny little holes in a fogged up windshield. You guys are nuts. Keep up the great work, love these videos. Looking forward to the regular range test to see how it stacks up!
It’s a Porsche fast is the only thing included, the rest is extra
Kyle - how did Porsche improve the range/efficiency so much? I’m assuming the battery pack isn’t much bigger than the current production version?
Capacity is about 105-110kWh
9hr at 50mph would SUCK! Thanks for doing it for us, Kyle!
Most underrated comment, plus the 3 other people in the car! Huge kudos to all involved!
Welcome to Norway then 😄
That speed is also not "ideal" either
@@cassokonwhat is it then
That charging situation is ridiculous
And California has the best charging network in the US. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get them from 79% to 100% from when they stopped at the first station.
Now imagine everyone drive EV
@@dzonikg lots of idiots buy evs with no home charging, recipe for disaster.
It’s in L.A I think one of the first EA chargers once you get there. When I was traveling to L.A from Santa Cruz we had the same issue the line was so long but we decided to stay and we thought it was because the chargers were free but it seems like that station is always busy from this video when I went it was about a year ago
That's why I sold mine
450 miles?? Porsche, great job! From recent announcement of Maccan to this? Love it!
I was glad you were able to capture the real-world Electrocute America experience in this video :)
Love that name for EA 😂
Endless Anxiety is more appropriate
Amazing video! Love this channel!
The realistic combined range will therefore be 550-600 km and in the city 750-800 km.
The most confusing on this test is how many people have poor eyesight or can't read when they don't see the word ‘Hypermile’ in the title of this video.
15:09 He says he is not hypermiling it. City range is usually worse, because with short drives with lots of accelerations and needing to heat-up or cool-down the interior for every short drive is bad for range. And it's not relevant. Range is only relevant for long drives. For short drives you won't do long distances in a day anyway.
@@drfisheye I understand that time and timestream can be confusing, but try answering this question: ‘What was earlier recording the video or creating the title for the video?’
@@Dqtube Titles and headlines are always added later, which is why you should always check the actual content. In which he says he does a practical driving test and is not hypermiling. It's good that he person who later created the title corrected it, because he clearly IS hypermiling despite saying he is not.
@@drfisheye He was hypermiling and it's in the title of the video and many people still have to comment that he was slow and hypermile. What more should the OoSR team do to make the average viewer understand that the video is about hypermile type testing ? Please tell me you don't really think all the things Kyle says in the videos are scripted.
I don't think he was "hypermiling" as he didn't stay in the draft of a truck. That strategy my have worked but would have been risky so the porsha team probably didn't want to display that risky maneuver.
Kyle, I love your videos and I love the Taycan (owned one for over 3 years) but I cannot see going 52 mph up the grapevine. I tell my wife to always drive at least 5 over to not embarrass the car😂. I have only been 5 under when at 2% SoC a a ways to get to the charger. Happy you have such an impressive range number with a very full vehicle. Looking forward to the 70 mph test and the 10% challenge..
Seeing 52 and 51 MPH on the speedometer is laughable. The Grapevine has no business for passenger vehicles this slow.
yeah, I really don’t understand the point of this video. I really think my IX could do 500 miles. If I drove at 50 miles an hour the entire time.
Kyle you're living the dream with all these fun tests and complete range tests with protypes and engineering units and real engineers in the car. What an incredible level of access and thank you for bringing us all along with you.
Thank you for the video, it was great
Thanks, Kyle! Always trying the brand new EVgo stations. I think that one has been online for less than a week, but that's why I keep telling these providers to have actual ribbon cutting/openings with local EV owners and techs onsite to work out the bugs.
lol, you always make me smile, love your content, keep them coming, your excitement is intoxicating, very nice vehicle
Two more thoughts on this video: imagine how far a lucid would go if we drove it like this?!
Also, I can’t wait to see what it does in the 70-mph test in Colorado. 365mi? Something like that I’d bet.
Think about 10% challenge with this :-.)
How many of those cars waiting at EA have free charging with purchase?
Thanks for showing the good and the bad. No fake news here!!
Porsche is killing it! What an amazing car.
Pretty amazing stuff! The predictions on charge times and ranges are coming true. Unfortunately you can rip a charge in 15 minutes, but you have to queue in line at EA for an hour to do it.
Is doing 50 in a 70 zone in a Porsche reasonable? I say no. Great work and nice video.
9+ hours in the car doing 50mph plus the craziness of the charging situation! Kyle's travel compadres all deserve a medal for agreeing to go through that torture test in the name of science.
Oh yes. I was waiting for this!
When Bjorn Nyland drove over Grapevine on his first Model 3 120 kph test, he got stellar efficiency, it just evens out nicely if you go back down as well. When he did a 90 kph (56 mph) cruise test in the Taycan 4S with Hancook Eco or whatever tyres, he got 580 km / 360 mi. In Norway, so never really flatlands.
One of the coolest things about Taycan is it just looks like a Porsche if you aren’t a car person. I see them from time to time and don’t immediately notice that’s what it is.
Then as you approach them you get the disappointment: “Oh… it’s not a 911…”
@@gabrielefusto🤡
My bladder is already screaming just reading the title lol
On top of holding in farts for 8 hours 💀
Thanks again Kyle taking the pain and giving just the fun to us.
Nice max range test and impressive results at 465 miles running a 4.8 mile/kWh efficiency. Paired with a charging curve that is even more impressive this is a real endurance test machine. 😁 In any road trip it is the easiest to achieve. 💯 40:45
I'm literally at that burbank charging station and there is a line out the block. Thank goodness I have a PHEV lmao😅
The charging infrastructure is so bad even in LA. It's honestly the biggest thing preventing people from buying an EV.
13 kWh/100 km is insane for a car of this kind.
I live in Burbank and the 3 EA charging stations in the city are always crowded and have at least one of the chargers down.
If my calculation is correct the net capacity of the new battery is approx. 96 kW, not that much bigger than the old model?
With my 2021 Cross Turismo 4S i have once recorded an average consumption of 17.8 kW/100 km during a long day trip with summer temperatures. The car has 21" wheels and the AC was running during this trip.
I saw Kyle at del amo all doing this test! Got a picture with him. Love the content!
Wonderful review! I'd love to see one more realistic scenario with a speed at 90 miles for example.
By using the information for multiple videos I calculate a battery capacity of 120 kW/h applying the 5% buffer from your Macan Electric video that should give us a usable capacity of 114 kW/h. Runing the numbers of this drive gives us 97.3 kW/h pulled out of the battery. That would mean ether my previous calcuations are not right or the car has very high degedation. A nother possibility I can think of is that the battery has a buffer of more then 5% to protect the batery while charing at this insane speeds.
love this test keep these coming please
In North America I have heard the best charging is in Quebec Canada. I quick visit there I saw one on every corner and all the gas stations had at least two. At least in the town near Montreal I passed through.
Question, is it better to have sunroof or normal roof for efficiency/range?
@kyleconner which one did you like more from a roadtripping performance - the new macan EV or taycan facelift?
750km on one charge is insane . Awesome kyle 👍
Can you get some of the charge network officials to discuss what their challenges have been in keeping the chargers up? Evgo, chargepoint, Tesla, etc.
Standing water on the road affects efficiency more than anything else. The drag from pushing the water out of the way is VERY significant.
Cheers guys
The hassle of charging in a major city like LA would be very frustrating. I"d love to have a Tacyan or E Macan to replace my ICE Macan but the charging network is not up to the task. Thanks for an interesting video.
Jeeze! 130Wh/km doing roughly 80kmh average is insane for such a big car! And even with some rain.
I dont think its such a big deal especially driving around at just about 77km/h, other cars would probably have similar efficiency.
And also its very unrealistic to do in europe... on 2 lane highways trucks would run you over 😂😂😂
@@MaxSloin Norway it’s very realistic.
@@MaxSlo By two lane highway do you mean undivided with one lane each direction? If so then in many parts of the world, especially in Europe, trucks are limited to 80-90kmh on any road with som exceptions. In Germany they are actually limited to 60kmh on such roads.
Average speed outside of motorways in Norway would be about 70-75kmh on longer trips. Unless you're the type of driver that consider posted limits a minimum and do +10 of the posted limit on the speedo.
No, I mean 2 lanes each way. Trucks may be limited to 90 but more often than not they drive 95 and will get pissed off if anyone would drive even 90 in front of them let alone 77.
That's just the ting, highway is a straight line, keeping the same speed improves efficiency, but constantly slowing down for and then accelerating after a turn will bring the consumption numbers off ideal, so those numbers are again not a real representation even for off the highway driving.
My average after 80k is 152Wh/km (about 50/50 split of highway and city/country roads), but if I was driving 77 on highway instead of the 100-110 that I do, I have no doubt that the consumption would be very similar to what Kyle got.@@Gazer75
Agree to disagree on this mileage being insane. My Model 3 SR can also put out 13kWh/100km at that speed wtf.
I however prefer driving at around 20kWh/100 because I’m a bit more of a sportier driver (I also have an RSQ3 MY2023).
Would be interesting range towing like 1.5-2 tone caravan at that speed
When does Porsche switch to NACS? I would consider buying this if I didn’t have to use Electrify America or EVgo.
The battery is not much bigger kWh so it’s just completely based on efficiency on the refresh?
Did you pay for tire pressure? Should be free in CA, also they should have tire pressure pumps there at the EV charging station or get one of those portable ones.
Love to hear this thing has range plus! Wish mine did Lol!
Unreal range. But it is also unreal to drive a Porsche 50mi/hr for 8 hours long. I am looking forward to the autobahn test with at least 80mi/hr avarage speed.
nobody drives at 80mph in Germany either :)
@@marcin_lukasik you would be suprised how low the average speed actually is on busy strips of the Autobahn, 80mph would be a pretty high average speed. That means you would drive with 95mph/153km/h in some areas and then get stuck at 70mph/112km/h traffic, speed limited zones or even slower road works sections. So a pretty average experience.
Slightly above 150km/h or 95mph is like what a lot of people drive on long distant trips as a comfortable maximum speed. So 80mph seems to be a pretty reasonable average number.
Nice. NB 99 where you were looping is where I test my teslas.
Crazy to see how bad the charging situation still is in LA county. Obviously we're much smaller here in Seattle but I've never waitied longer than one car in front of me for the year I've e had my Ioniq 5
I live in LA and have never waited to charge my Tesla.
Fantastic
Nice!
Great video. While I know the feeling and really enjoy hypermiling and I know you are really excited, just be careful, it's really easy to make a simple mistake rushing away from a charger or pulling in fast to a pit stop. an extra minute or two of the car on idling isn't going to make any difference. Cheers.
Amazing video Kyle. Thus car is a beast.
hell yes, thats what i call hyper-miling!
I would love to see a powerful RWD model, maybe with dual rear motors. The incoming Turbo GT will have two rear motors, excited to see how Porsche implements torque vectoring.
A 50-55 mph range test may seem pointless on a 70 mph freeway, but it's actually quite useful for people that want a car that can take them down remote back roads, away from the interstate.
Back roads often have 50-55 mph speed limits, which mirror the driving conditions shown in the test almost perfectly. And because back roads tend to have very limited charging infrastructure, the range of the car matters a lot more than does on the interstate. On the interstate, not having enough range simply means you pull into a fast charger off the highway a little bit sooner. On back roads, it means having to sit for an hour on a level 2 simply to be able to make it to a fast charger, or worse, not being able to complete the trip at all.
This is why I think the test shown is actually worth a lot more than it seems at first glance.
Go team, go. 500++ Woo-hoo! This is awesome!
I can't believe there isn't a standard for charge port location on cars so that charging stations can be used more efficiently and to avoid having to park awkwardly.
How long have there been ICE cars? There is no standardization for fueling locations on those. My two Ice vehicles have them on opposite sides… I hate that.
once they open up tesla charging to non teslas, i bet everyone is going to shape up then
@@trippplefive It is already open in Europe. Highly doubt its going to change much.
YOU ARE THE BEST
Nice video
I would love to do a road trip across America in one. Nearly 5 miles per kWh is nuts!
Absolutely stunning !!! Incredible efficency on the new Porsche Taycan !!
Probably you should have turned the temperature of climate control to the outside temperature. Otherwise when you have outside about 15° and inside 21° then the heating was on. Is there no possibility to turn the A/C compressor?
What changes did they make to do that?
Hanging out with trucks and doing 50 mph. My 2005 W203 C220 CDI would do 4.5 liters / 100 km for a range of 700 miles with another 5 liters for a buffer which would be at least 60 miles. At 62 mph or 100 km/h. With the air conditioning on full power. And it takes me at most 5 min to pull up, fill up and pay for diesel. Just for your Information.
Is this facelift on that new PPE platform? Or really is a mid cycle restyle before that's out?
1:24 haha what is with the conference room table and chairs in a un-heated/cooled garage
Nice to see you take us norwegians with you!😂😂😉
KYLE YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!
If it charges that fast all the way, id like to see the 10% challenge, it should get close to 80% in 15 min. The 10% challenge may already need to be adjusted to 10 min because this car is getting so much better. It’s amazing how this technology is improving.
Yea, Kyle!
Kyle what camera do you use for this video?
Sweet car! The charging curve is amazeballs.
5 mi/kwh is amazing efficiency. I’m getting a dismal 2.3 mi/kwh in my etron.
WOW, that's some improvement in just a year from Porsche. Love to see more range out of these things.
More Like 3 years
I think you mean 5 years.

Thank you for the video! Porsche has done it again, 450 miles WOW!

Impressive
That's nice.
This is absolutely absurd. Someone please do a 70mph test.
Soon we might see somebody beat that with 30 mph 🤣

@@bullshitbingo2259A6 will take longer
As a Taycan 4S CT owner, seeing those efficiency numbers even in range mode are insane, I've never been able to break 4 mi/kWH even with economic driving 😲

Hella impressive results! Taycan is a beast, such a dope car. The only EV I'd buy.
Can’t wait tell yall get awd with the same stats & so the 70
5 miles per kWh is great, very impressive.
Yeah, considering one gallon of gas is about 33 kWh. 5 miles per kWh is like getting 165mpg!
It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to charge from 79% to 100% from when they arrived at the first charging station. That is exactly why many of us are not migrating to an EV. Charging speed/time is just too unpredictable in this current environment of chargers and battery technology. First stop @ 6:40 the line was too long, left for another charger, that charger didn't work, moved to a other. Then waiting for the charge to top off to 100% finally at 13:00. I would be so mad I wasted over an hour before leaving on a 400 mile trip.
Love your channel and love Porsche but no EV yet for our family until there is some significant evolution. Thanks Kyle for all your hard work and research in this EV space.
Says he won’t hold up traffic. Goes 49 mph in a 70 forcing trucks to pass him.
Love my Taycan! I get maybe 250, so that’s a definite boost. I can just sense her in the back like get me Starbucks, and you owe me.
I really wonder what the price point on this thing will be.
Wow that thing is swirl city on the paint in some shots
That's all I noticed too. They don't really take care of the paint in the test car prototypes.
Many thanks to you all for your dedication, commitment, fortitude, and lots and lots of time to bring us this great example of what is possible in a BEV.
Absolutely crazy performance. The Queen of EVs and with razor-edge handling
Outstanding job Porsche.

Porsche did it again 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The future is bright. 450mi (granted, maybe 400mi usable), is enough for a lot of people to replace their ICE vehicles.
Those same ice vehicle's used for less than 37 miles a day on average?
@@4literv6 not necessarily. but some people have 120 mile round trip commutes who don't have access to onsite charging between trips. To go 1 or 2 days without charging takes away the range anxiety for most.
I can easily get 12.9 kWh/100km in my e-Golf but getting that in a Taycan is very impressive.
