- The Final Cut elevates Disco Elysium from an already phenomenal RPG to a true must-play masterpiece.
Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is out now on PC, Mac, PS5 and PlayStation 4, Google Stadia and coming later this year to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
Wait, all the thoughts are now voiced too? That’s genuinely insane.
I'm so psyched I'm about to sit down and play it now on PS4 Pro
The voices of the thoughts is the same person. The main character selection is the only thing not voiced so it represents you as the player.
And the VA is fantastic imo!
Here's the dev's reasoning for Lenval Brown being the voice of all the voices is explained in an interview -
"All 24 skills reside in the same part of your character's brain: the posterior neocortex, where modern science says consciousness resides. The spreadsheet (casting credits) literally says: NEOCORTEX POSTERIOR. Thus, the skills all share the voice of the posterior neocortex. There are also different brain voices in the game: the ancient reptilian brain (this is one of my favourite voices too), the limbic system and the spinal cord (all tell your dreams). These have different voices, because these are really parts different from your character's brain."

It's a master class in modern communist propaganda. "Moralist" in the context of the game, not the in game "communist", but that's what it is. If you like that style of writing for games and the basic game systems under the hood though, some "Choice of Games" authors have done it better, minus the excellent art and sound.

And they're giving out for free what must have been an insane amount of work to do all the VA... these guys are amazing. Hopefully we'll get more stories in this fantastic world.

To the fans of Witcher, Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and other so called great RPGs like them. This is a real genuine masterpiece of an RPG. Not those.
After playing it, it's high grade communist propaganda. "Moralist" in the context of the game, replete with weaponized lingual redefinition, and intentionally creating false psychological associations (and disassociation). Aside from that, it's got great narrative game systems, taken after ChoiceScript, the "Choice of Games" system, and great impressionist art direction. I've been waiting for a AAA "Choice of" type game for a long time, so it does scratch that itch.
No not a detective game, it's a Make Kim your Best Friend Simulator.

Unfortunately it’s actually not even deserved. The game is completely broken on PlayStation 5 at the moment. There are numerous game breaking bugs that make it impossible to progress.
It's not deserved anyway. The game is heavily propagandist. It's quality propaganda, but nonetheless. The game systems and the art are beautiful though, like a AAA "Choice of Games" game with a top of the line art department, which is something I've wanted to see for a long time. On PS4, it's very frustrating to lose an hour's progress because of what seems like a memory leak problem. They just updated it again yesterday afternoon though, so hopefully it'll autosave a lot more frequently.

With this, Disco Elysium has become the next game to receive 10/10 from both Gamespot and IGN.
There's no difference between 9.6 and a 10. A 10 doesn't mean perfect as no game is. It's all subjective 👍

So blown away by this game. One that gets under your skin and actually makes you think about your choices in and out of the game (your own) and idealogies. And damn, what a soundtrack..

Makes sense, the developers and publishers would obviously want their games available to another, larger market. The console market is 4% larger than pc.
One of the best CRPG's and best written games since Planescape Torment..everyone should check this one out because it delivers a truly unique experience.

If you do and the developer didn't bother to implement better loading times (or the *publisher* didn't allow developers time to implement better loading times!) to take advantage of your powerful hardware, then the criticism is fair and due.

If it helps the 1% of dyslexic people who play this game, great, but those dyslexic people aren't turning the profits out for the company, so they're not the motivation behind this. Always follow the money. There's a CEO out there who had to approve this and trust me, he's focused on that bottom line, not making his game more accessible.

BE WARNED: the devs held out on giving console review codes early ala cyberpunk. I’ve been playing it on PS5 and it has severe issues with frame rate and bugs

I'll definetly purchase it but I'm waiting for a patch and a possible price drop.
I've played a fair amount on PS5 with no issues besides some surface level stuff like a few vo lines missing. The stuttering issues were patched in 1.01 and some other issues are already getting ironed out for 1.02, so don't believe this dude acting like it's a mess, it's not. It's in much better shape than most games are at launch, if you ask me.

A great game, but the frequent loading screens really bog down the pacing. Every time you walk through a door prepare to wait 40 seconds to a minute. It’s something that should’ve been fixed.

You think that character voice actings are chosen in a way that you imagined them to be? The thing is that all characters had voice acting at the beginning of the dialogues of the first version of at least one line, so you already heard them before LOL
