I'm legit insanely impressed. When I saw that this was a 30 minute review of THIS game AND you claimed "NO SPOILERS!" I did not think it was possible to do. However, the gimmick of having the various aspects of your personality chime in during the video PERFECTLY encapsulates the FEEL of this game without spoiling the many glorious moments within. Without exaggeration, this is one of, if not THE, best and most innovative spoiler free game reviews of all time. You and IGN aren't even in the same multiverse my (former) fellow educator!

Unfortunately, the devs appear to have been caught on the wrong end of a fraudulent takeover of ZA/UM and were involuntarily dismissed. As of the upgrade last month, the situation is still continuing but one of the two parties involved in the takeover has previously been convicted for fraud. It's really sad to see indie developers get treated to this, especially when this project was basically built from a lifetime of work and passion.
The idea of having the different skills intefere in the review is so BRILLIANT, I'm genuinely surprised no one has thought of it before Also, having Matt's response always be one of the dialouge options is a really nice touch
It also made me realise again how well the skills where characterised as there were parts in the review that I thought he messed up because the skills where acting "Out of character"

I imagine you intended to have Sid as one of the voices, but he passed before you could fully implement him. I feel for you man, it's hard losing an integral part of your life like that. I hope he at least passed painlessly.
A (spoiler-free) defense of the final scene: the things that happen leading up to that scene are all still dependent on the choices you made during the game and will change based on the character you've crafted up to that point. That last scene is sort of like a "denouement" not meant to cover all your choices so much as round out the story as a whole, which I think it nails and put a stupid smile on my face when I got a certain achievement. So yeah, this game is actually totally perfect...except for the weird bugs.

But his band that performed in Brighton actually does slap, and you can hear his Voicework there - but jumping into D.E. and giving such a performance for your first VA gig is immensely impressive. And in the end we got rewarded with one of the most calming voices in a game I've heard
I lost my cat about a month before I learned about Sid. We had had her for around 12 years, and we estimated her to be roughly 13. She had showed up at our garden about a couple of months after my brother was born, and never left. We always said it was like she adopted us, rather than the other way around. Her last few months were plagued with health issues, but ill never forget the weekend before she died. I was horrendously ill, and didn't have the energy to sit up. I was lying on my couch, covered in a duvet, having a nap. When I woke up, I found her curled up, right next to me. She was always so full of love, and ill always remember her for that. I'm an atheist, but I like to imagine their off in some form of heaven, the two of them. I hope they take care of each other.
the real real world tragedy of disco elysium lies in the incredibly complicated moral and legal dilemma surrounding its original creator and the game's current studio. i agree it's a terrific game and i hope that, in whichever way or fashion, we might get more of that same taste.
Most of the drama surrounds who owns "Disco Elysium." Kinda hate to say this, but I sorta hope the studio wins the rights, because I'd much rather see what the artists and writers can do with a blank slate and a new world than what Disco Elysium 2 will eventually end up being.

as someone with dyslexia the game being pretty much fully voiced is amazing the amount of games I've not finished because reading so much becomes very very boring very fast more so then it would for the average person. its the same with divinity original sin they made it full voiced so i jumped back into it and its probably one of the best games I've played.

The laughs during the innocent men skit were part of the skit. It's a reference to blue Peter I think, where the dog puppet presenter says it without any context and makes the other presenter laugh
We will miss you, Sid. Lots of love ❤ Disco Elysium absolutely fascinates me. And this review simulates perfectly what it feels like to play it. Confusion over all the different chime ins, sudden moments of hilarity or weirdness, loving Kim more than life itself... I especially love the "I am doubting my abilities and now I am being mean to myself" joke it is SO relatable 😂
bought the game because of this video, did the intro, got in, got my jacket and pants and shirt and reach for my neck tie which is spinning on the blades of my fan, fail the agility check, get hit in the hand by the fan blades, die of a heart attack because of it. best game ever,
The Dolores Dei dream sequence still makes me cry just by thinking about it too. Oh and the dance off with Kim in the church is probably the most wholesome sequence of the game.
Reviewing Disco Elysium using the ingame skills is frankly genius, and I can only imagine how long it would have taken to film everything! I think it was the right call to make this spoiler free, although I'd love to hear your thoughts on it's ending at some point - that one Suggestion check just broke me. This video is simply marvelous and was absolutely worth the wait, its definitely one of your best - hopefully this will introduce the game and Kim Kitsuragi to a whole new audience!
If it wasn't for the fact that I absolutely adore Lenval Brown's voice acting as well as some of the other voices like Ancient Reptilian Brain, and Limbic System, I don't think I would have been able to finish this game. The emotions in the game carry it the whole way through and helped me fall in love with the shitty world that Harry lives in. It was just amazing.
I bought this game purely because of this review and I am NOT AT ALL disappointed. I am absolutely loving it. I actually really like the portions of the game where they stuff paragraphs and paragraphs of information into a sack and beat you over the skull with it. It’s overwhelming and makes me feel a bit lost in this world of Revachol, which is how I imagine the detective you play as feels as well. There are lots of things that you piece together as you guide your character through it and they are just as lost as you. With having no background on how Revachol works, and the abundance of crooked people who’d like to string you along to use you; Kim is almost like your security blanket in a way. He’s the only one who you feel will be fully honest with you and he’s sort of a crutch you lean on as you stumble your way through a confusing reality. Great review!
I played this game with massive Encyclopaedia and Shivers, and it was bit like the experience of playing myself (a constant string of random facts and bizarre, grandiose descriptions of everyday objects) honestly a great way to spend one of my weeks of time off.
This is easily one of the funniest and most creative channels on the internet. It astounds me how consistently it makes me laugh. Rest in peace Sid, you were a good cat and a sneaky Khajiit rogue 🐈⬛
I initially put off watching the video because I still hadn't played the game and was scared of spoilers, but after finding out it's spoiler free I sat down, watched it in full, and it's now one of my fave reviews of yours! The amount of work you put into your videos is insane and they're always a joy to rewatch

Disco Elysium is one of those games that go beyond simply being played and becomes an experience, mood and state of consciousness all at once! When you had the AI read out the script--it honestly felt empty cos I expected your usual changes of pitch and tone and whatnot. So don't worry! You won't be replaced! :D I really need to play this game though! Also, Sid will be missed! ; n ; The new babies are very cute though!

Ok, so I only recently found this channel and I absolutely LOVE it. Disco Elysium needs to be celebrated because it's not just a game. It's an absolute masterpiece in this form of media in terms of storytelling. It's what will be remembered in 300 years. And it's showed us, gamers, a glimpse of what could be. It showed developers you can get absolutely wild in terms of mechanics and still succeed. I died in first 2 minutes into the game and I knew this was something truly special. Once the genius of this game set in about 2 hours into the playtime I nearly cried tears of joy at what I was witnessing. People compare it to Planescape Torment. I completed P:T not long after it premiered and never felt such a connection to the game and its characters. We most likely won't see worthy sequel but impact of this game will be inmeasurable.
I've just realized that Kim is just Parkzer. Parkzer from DougDoug's streams is very dry, analytical, and legally-minded, and yet somehow absolutely everyone loves him! I entirely understand Up's opinions on Kim now and share them without having even played the game.
It is the effect of having two characters with a dynamic, where we reside in the head of one of them for long periods of time. A calming analytical voice to balance out the crazy and funny that you never escape from. Edit: funnily enough, Twitch chat could make a good rogues gallery of internal voices
DO NOT BUY THE GAME, PIRATE IT. The money isn't going to the original developers and is instead going to the greedy company who fired the writers, artists and creator of the entire UNIVERSE.
I love the amount of work that go into these videos, all the editing and extra takes I’m sure it took for bits that aren’t very long but still add so much to the video. It’s very impressive to watch. Love it.
The gameplay's perfect for Upisnotjump-- the dialogue options give him options for a way higher jokes-per-second ratio, and he definitely took 'em. I imagine that cat could help you if you ever wanted to dig at any of the philosophy of the game, she sounded like she might have a knack for that sort of thing

I don't know how often I got goosebumps while playing Disco Elysium. What a great experience. Just listening to the narrator's voice, or to the music that plays when leaving the hotel for the first time makes me want to play the game again. The inner monologues and almost all of the NPCs are so well written that I kept thinking about them long after finishing the game. And yes, I also love Kim, and I also didn't dare to steal the boots because he made me feel guilty about it. What a great game.
I took the leg armor because one of my inner thoughts suggested that it would be safe to take them at night after Kim has gone to bed. The depth of this game is incredible.

It’s super sad to see Sid go, but always remember that these videos will serve as an amazing, if often comedic, to his life as a whole. Why the hell would anybody want a sugar free/grain free cereal? What exactly is the point of eating cereal at that point? What kind of person wakes up in the morning and goes "I want cereal but i don't like cereal?" Eat bacon and eggs man. Waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, a breakfast burrito, you have so many real options to choose from, why would you eat what is essentially just cardboard?
Having had to say goodbye to our cat of 18 years last year as well, I hope that by now all that is left are happy memories of him. Disco Elysium is such a wild ride on the first playthrough. I never got the boots either, though you can easily do it once Kitsuragi turns in for the night, but I was afraid it might damage the body. The whole cryptozoologist route is worth the extra running around for it, trust me. The characters are all so deep and colourful, each one sticks out in their own, unique way. What I also loved was talking to my friends about their choices and experiences, since they were mostly entirely different. Something I can advise to anyone looking to play: explore to your heart's desire. You do not get any penalty from staying up late, only certain places might not be open anymore. As soon as the village to the south opens, look for a different place to sleep to save some money. My Harry was a sober, non-smoking superstar cop who was somehow both communist and fascist, and I loved every second of it.

What blew me away about Disco was its ability to make me feel so disempowered and demoralized throughout the game. Your character has to beg for money and recycle bottles just to pay rent for the night, talking to women usually ends with them laughing at you, intimidation almost never works well, etc. And yet, I've never felt more compassion and felt so close to a video game protagonist. The first time I had a major success broke me. After a long couple of days of failure after failure I rolled high enough to sing well at karaoke and I thought it was going to be funny. Turns out it was the most soulful and beautiful moment I ever experienced as he sang this beautiful and sad song. It helped make him a real character and added this sense of tragedy that I didn't really feel before then. Such an amazing game.
How do you take a piece of fiction that was painstakingly crafted by a team of artists, writers, and producers over the course of years which itself was part of a world built by someone who worked for a better part of a decade on and which has already been the foundation of a novel: and then decide “yeah, the digital plagiarism algorithm is actually a good tool.”

Fantastic game, finally finished it this year and I cannot fathom why I put it off for so long. It's just so engrossing and I swear I laughed for a solid 5 minutes at the conclusion of the church ravers story. The voice actor that does the internal dialogues is stellar, really drew me in with his performances.

I want to play this but... it's more complicated than you'd think because the original artists behind the s u b l i m e experience were 'boysclubbed' off the team with zero royalties and now it's basically just publishing middle managers that profit and control the IP. So much love to those chat dialogue menus that opened up. The Easter eggs and the straight up use of the actual dialogue you used was amazing. But also I do have some issue about the way you talked about AI text models. No, they can't replace game reviewers. If it sounds like it was an IGN review, that's likely because it pulled and trained that response on written game reviews. It can't do anything new. It can't review a game that no one else has written about. And it won't play and enjoy the games the way that humans do. Is it a super useful tool to help do some of the work. Absolutely. But don't go suggesting it can replace that which it's just copying.

as someone with dyslexia the game being pretty much fully voiced is amazing the amount of games I've not finished because reading so much becomes very very boring very fast more so then it would for the average person. its the same with divinity original sin they made it full voiced so i jumped back into it and its probably one of the best games I've played.

The laughs during the innocent men skit were part of the skit. It's a reference to blue Peter I think, where the dog puppet presenter says it without any context and makes the other presenter laugh

Disco Elysium absolutely fascinates me. And this review simulates perfectly what it feels like to play it. Confusion over all the different chime ins, sudden moments of hilarity or weirdness, loving Kim more than life itself...
I especially love the "I am doubting my abilities and now I am being mean to myself" joke it is SO relatable 😂

Reviewing Disco Elysium using the ingame skills is frankly genius, and I can only imagine how long it would have taken to film everything! I think it was the right call to make this spoiler free, although I'd love to hear your thoughts on it's ending at some point - that one Suggestion check just broke me. This video is simply marvelous and was absolutely worth the wait, its definitely one of your best - hopefully this will introduce the game and Kim Kitsuragi to a whole new audience!
If it wasn't for the fact that I absolutely adore Lenval Brown's voice acting as well as some of the other voices like Ancient Reptilian Brain, and Limbic System, I don't think I would have been able to finish this game. The emotions in the game carry it the whole way through and helped me fall in love with the shitty world that Harry lives in. It was just amazing.
I bought this game purely because of this review and I am NOT AT ALL disappointed. I am absolutely loving it. I actually really like the portions of the game where they stuff paragraphs and paragraphs of information into a sack and beat you over the skull with it. It’s overwhelming and makes me feel a bit lost in this world of Revachol, which is how I imagine the detective you play as feels as well. There are lots of things that you piece together as you guide your character through it and they are just as lost as you. With having no background on how Revachol works, and the abundance of crooked people who’d like to string you along to use you; Kim is almost like your security blanket in a way. He’s the only one who you feel will be fully honest with you and he’s sort of a crutch you lean on as you stumble your way through a confusing reality. Great review!
I played this game with massive Encyclopaedia and Shivers, and it was bit like the experience of playing myself (a constant string of random facts and bizarre, grandiose descriptions of everyday objects) honestly a great way to spend one of my weeks of time off.
This is easily one of the funniest and most creative channels on the internet. It astounds me how consistently it makes me laugh.

Ok, so I only recently found this channel and I absolutely LOVE it.
Disco Elysium needs to be celebrated because it's not just a game. It's an absolute masterpiece in this form of media in terms of storytelling. It's what will be remembered in 300 years.
And it's showed us, gamers, a glimpse of what could be. It showed developers you can get absolutely wild in terms of mechanics and still succeed. I died in first 2 minutes into the game and I knew this was something truly special.
Once the genius of this game set in about 2 hours into the playtime I nearly cried tears of joy at what I was witnessing.
People compare it to Planescape Torment. I completed P:T not long after it premiered and never felt such a connection to the game and its characters.
We most likely won't see worthy sequel but impact of this game will be inmeasurable.
So very happy it was unbanned in Australia, this game is nothing short of a brilliant display of modern art
I've just realized that Kim is just Parkzer.
Parkzer from DougDoug's streams is very dry, analytical, and legally-minded, and yet somehow absolutely everyone loves him!
I entirely understand Up's opinions on Kim now and share them without having even played the game.
It is the effect of having two characters with a dynamic, where we reside in the head of one of them for long periods of time. A calming analytical voice to balance out the crazy and funny that you never escape from.

The gameplay's perfect for Upisnotjump-- the dialogue options give him options for a way higher jokes-per-second ratio, and he definitely took 'em.

I don't know how often I got goosebumps while playing Disco Elysium. What a great experience. Just listening to the narrator's voice, or to the music that plays when leaving the hotel for the first time makes me want to play the game again. The inner monologues and almost all of the NPCs are so well written that I kept thinking about them long after finishing the game. And yes, I also love Kim, and I also didn't dare to steal the boots because he made me feel guilty about it. What a great game.

I took the leg armor because one of my inner thoughts suggested that it would be safe to take them at night after Kim has gone to bed. The depth of this game is incredible.

It’s super sad to see Sid go, but always remember that these videos will serve as an amazing, if often comedic, to his life as a whole. He was a fan favorite and everyone here is sad about his departure. Good luck with the new cats, and I can’t wait to see what personalities they may bring to the channel after this one.
Also, amazing review. The hard to explain game systems which could have easily caused confusion were perfectly illustrated in a digestible, useful way. I didn’t really understand what all the hubbub about disco elysium was, but now I think I get why everyone loves it so much. Im going to have to give it a try once I’m done with all my current games.

Why the hell would anybody want a sugar free/grain free cereal? What exactly is the point of eating cereal at that point? What kind of person wakes up in the morning and goes "I want cereal but i don't like cereal?" Eat bacon and eggs man. Waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, a breakfast burrito, you have so many real options to choose from, why would you eat what is essentially just cardboard?
Having had to say goodbye to our cat of 18 years last year as well, I hope that by now all that is left are happy memories of him.
Disco Elysium is such a wild ride on the first playthrough. I never got the boots either, though you can easily do it once Kitsuragi turns in for the night, but I was afraid it might damage the body. The whole cryptozoologist route is worth the extra running around for it, trust me.
The characters are all so deep and colourful, each one sticks out in their own, unique way. What I also loved was talking to my friends about their choices and experiences, since they were mostly entirely different.
Something I can advise to anyone looking to play: explore to your heart's desire. You do not get any penalty from staying up late, only certain places might not be open anymore. As soon as the village to the south opens, look for a different place to sleep to save some money.
My Harry was a sober, non-smoking superstar cop who was somehow both communist and fascist, and I loved every second of it.

What blew me away about Disco was its ability to make me feel so disempowered and demoralized throughout the game. Your character has to beg for money and recycle bottles just to pay rent for the night, talking to women usually ends with them laughing at you, intimidation almost never works well, etc. And yet, I've never felt more compassion and felt so close to a video game protagonist. The first time I had a major success broke me. After a long couple of days of failure after failure I rolled high enough to sing well at karaoke and I thought it was going to be funny. Turns out it was the most soulful and beautiful moment I ever experienced as he sang this beautiful and sad song. It helped make him a real character and added this sense of tragedy that I didn't really feel before then. Such an amazing game.
How do you take a piece of fiction that was painstakingly crafted by a team of artists, writers, and producers over the course of years which itself was part of a world built by someone who worked for a better part of a decade on and which has already been the foundation of a novel: and then decide “yeah, the digital plagiarism algorithm is actually a good tool.”
My condolences. That intro was amazing and Sid will live on in our hearts. Hears to Sid, may yall walk together again someday.

Fantastic game, finally finished it this year and I cannot fathom why I put it off for so long. It's just so engrossing and I swear I laughed for a solid 5 minutes at the conclusion of the church ravers story. The voice actor that does the internal dialogues is stellar, really drew me in with his performances.

I want to play this but... it's more complicated than you'd think because the original artists behind the s u b l i m e experience were 'boysclubbed' off the team with zero royalties and now it's basically just publishing middle managers that profit and control the IP. No, they can't replace game reviewers. If it sounds like it was an IGN review, that's likely because it pulled and trained that response on written game reviews. It can't do anything new. It can't review a game that no one else has written about. And it won't play and enjoy the games the way that humans do.
Is it a super useful tool to help do some of the work. Absolutely.
But don't go suggesting it can replace that which it's just copying.
