I got the sorry cop achievement just by sayign what I felt like I'd normally say. Which considering I apologize at least twice per conversation I have irl, no big surprise.
Man, I started off with high points on empathy, perception and logic so I could talk to everyone, understand shit and play how I'd act as if I were a detective in real life. Man, it goes to some dark sad places but the catharsis and copotypes eventually made me feel like I was growing alongside Harry. Embracing the Tequila Sunset, then waking up the next day from it. Going from sorry(s) to fuck yeah(s). Man, this game is a concentrated work of art and genius manifest. Thank you, devs.
Describes my own experience with the game too. Went from sorry cop to actually wanting our Harry to grow a bit of a spine and actually decide that actually, he could get a grip on his life without becoming a self-flagellating wreck. He could still be disco and cool and have fun without the constant self-destruction.
My first play through was a morally-loose, drug-addled, party hobo cop. Now, with the Final Cut, I’m playing as a real detective. Tired of disappointing Kim.
Right now I'm playing the game as junky cop with maxed out 'inland empire' and 'electrochemistry' and I'm suddenly playing a high fantasy David lynch game (but only in my characters head), poor Kim that has to put up with this..
I feel like you get better synergy having a deranged superstar Harry dubois to contrast with Kim’s straightedge demeanor. Makes for hilarious buddy cop moments
Superstarcop is easy. Try Superstar-Facist/Racist-Cop... Honestly, i played this several times: High Inland Empire/general Spirit stats and Elechtrochemistry make for the by far best playthru.
I played as a high moralist hyper-insane superstar apocalypse cop, and Kim still really trusted me. I think I was so over the top, Kim couldn't help but like me.
I love that this game isn't about role-playing as evil or good, but instead as miserable human being, or someone that remains strong through all the hardships
Just started another playthrough with High Empathy and all of the Psyche skills but low int and Physique and rn I'm loving it. Just being a detective that has reached such a low point in their life that they can empathise with others. Seems fitting.
I think the game gives you one free pass when you die trying to grab the horrific necktie; screen goes black and then you bounce back to one health saying something like: "you feel you should have died".
You should! I held off on playing it without it and I'm glad I did. Just finished it and honestly, their voices will stick with me for a long time. Especially the phasmid's!
My mate bought this for me a week back; both of us are worried that the original version was on it's way to be pulled from the Steam page soon. Thank you to the devs for skirting that issue :) . Anyway I'm about 15 hours in and loving it. I never knew I wanted a game where the fragmented mind of the main character is manifesting in a way that 'Authority', 'Compassion' and 'Empathy' are all talking to each other all the while being berated by a ugly necktie and talking to a corpse.
There are four detective archetypes builds I like to play with. I call them Sherlock, Columbo, Poirot, and Hopper. If you know which characters I’m talking about then you also know which builds I go with for them and their play style. As you can guess, “Hopper” actually fits best in the world of Disco Elysium tonally speaking.
The thing with this masterpiece of a game is it has two playthroughs in it for everyone. One with two stats high and two other low and then the second time those stats mirrored. This way you experience all the failures and all the highlights while still not being repetitive. Such a well designed system!
I kind of was uninterested in the first few hours of the game, but got more immersed as it went on. Resulting in this story of a deranged cop who slowly regained his consciousness and sanity while solving the case. I liked it.
I would really recommend everyone to read the wikipedia article about this game. The story about the development is really incredible - almost like the game itself :-)

I managed to get a "good" ending in my first playthrough but the detective was also showing up to every majour encounter off his face on alcahol, speed, nicatine and pheradon XD
If you decide to play through Disco Elysium with all stats set to 1 as shown here in the video, I wish the best of luck...because you're gonna need it as more often than not, unless you are extremely lucky or have some boosts available and even that is pushing it, most of the dice rolls will fail because your stats are THAT low...
@@Kingcole6 Overall I'd recommend that anyone who wants a good experience to play the game with the recommended number of stat points for your first playthrough, maybe even your first few playthroughs, but then obviously you can mess around with absurdly weak or absurdly brokenly OP character builds and reloading saves as much as you'd like. Enjoy it the intended way, then mess around and push it to unintended limits. For most people, that's definitely going to result in the best time playing this wonderful game.
So, some dialog options have a Check to make. the check is a simulated dice roll of two six-sided die. without any modifiers, that means you can roll 2-12. Most checks will have a certain threshold number you need to roll higher than, with the note that rolling a 2 always fails, and rolling a 12 always succeeds. Your ability score and equipment attributes are added to the roll's total to hopefuilly improve your odds, and certain events can also have an affect on the total roll.
Basically you don't have to worry about the dice, all the calculations are done for you and you're presented with a chance to succeed, which is modified by your skills and possibly other hidden factors that will make the check easier or harder. Red checks give you one chance, white checks can be repeated after leveling the appropriate skill. The biggest problem is that sometimes progression is locked behind white checks, and you can't get enough experience to level up again, so you just have to save scum to continue.
As of this comment, I am approx 15hrs in and I managed to skill-out my character in such a way that I am currently an alcoholic, slightly-schizophrenic communist, with fascist tendencies.... 10/10 Would drink myself to encephalitis-amnesia again
