- If you didn't already know, resin needs to be warm to achieve quality 3D prints. Thankfully it seems, thanks to Anycubic's recent lead, that all Resin Printer manufacturers will soon be including resin enclosure heater solutions with new printers. But what about existing printers? Fortunately there are affordable off the shelf solutions that can help.

Been using the chitu heater for a few weeks in my 0 degrees F garage and it's been working great, had to get a sleeve for the printer with foil insulated lining though to help it break 70F on the really cold nights. An extra 11 bucks and now it sits at 85F without constantly running while printing no matter how cold it gets out there. Prints come out great, no more failures.

I've been loving my m5s pro so far. Speed and quality despite temps ranging from 35-60F.
I bought a couple Chitusystem heaters. They are nice. They come with a timer function and will show you the chamber temperature as long as it's plugged in. One negative. The fan will always spin. Doesn't matter if the heat is on or not. It could be tricky to fit in some printers. The adhesive magnet will cover a usb slot on the Elegoo printers. I ended up using vat band heaters. Those are safer to use (12 volts)j and are much more efficient.

Bought the chitu heater in Dec and received it in Jan. Took quite a while but arrived. Safe and sound, it’s not bad although I have it in an enclosure and the lids off it keeps it pretty warm in there. It’s helped out a lot
I built your first heater design, and bar a faulty thermostat unit that I had to replace, it's worked brilliantly.
Cold resin definitely proved to be my problem with plate adhesion.

VOG isn’t it better to warm the VAT instead of the air in the printer? Do you know any VAT heater products
That sounds like a good idea, you don't need to print test pattern at different room temperatures to ensure getting the best exposure time.
Absolutely. Ideally you want a regular set temperature. I go for 30C. With that done, that's when to dial in the settings.
Would be nice if curing station could start having heaters as well, I guess the Chitubox version can be used like that as well.
The chitu heater has been absolutely fantastic for me. Also with the magnetic base I can easily move it from my saturn to my mars as I'm generally not using them both at the same time, though I'll still probably pick up a second one at some point.

Coincidentally, I ordered a cheap, small space heater earlier today to warm up my enclosure. The pad (typically used for reptiles etc.) just wasn't quick enough. I'll still use the thermostat that came with it though. After seeing the WB Hotbox, I think this should work nicely.

Very interesting. I am going to have to look into the ChituHeater because right now the plan is an enclosure with USB hand warmers. Thankfully, I haven't had anything to print while it is 62F in the room at night.

Excellent video Geoff. The Wham Bam products look very well made and have very good reviews. We are heading towards winter here in upside-down land... so an enclosure with thermal properties could be a good way to go. All the best and get well soon mate.

Awesome! I got one of the heater units for my little Mars 4. Hopefully it fits ok. It isn't listed, but the Mars 3 is there and they look to be the same size.
You may struggle with the Mars 4 as it has a fancy shaped lid. You made an enclosure around it. That's what I do with my Mars 4.
@vogman it BARELY fits but I did manage to get it in there. It almost doest clear the build plate when tilted a bit.
The ideal still remains resin vat heating, of course. Not too many SLA printers do this by default, but you can DIY this too, with a flexible heating element around the resin vat.
I'm not a fan. Heating the vat warms the resin, but if the enclosure is cold, the plate will be cold, constantly sucking heat. This can vary the temperature throughout the printing process.
When an enclosure is warm, EVERYTHING is warm.
Plus occasionally I drop my vats into the ultrasonic cleaner for a thorough clean... not a good idea with electronics attached.
@@vogman Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages, I'll admit. The best may be heating the vat and having an insulated/heated enclosure?

None of them have a PId control so there is the issue of heat cycle lines on the prints.

How easy would it be to disassemble and replace the fan? That thing sounds very noisy, plus there is always the chance of the fan going bad over time.
1 hour to heat the air inside the enclosure, but how long to heat the resin?

That's a good point, but I think unless you already live in a warm area, the chances of the HotBox alone raising the temp too high are practically impossible. Heaters are thermostatically controlled so that shouldn't happen either, but it's always wise to keep an eye on the temperature just in case... and fit one of those amazing WhamBam Clouds... better safe than sorry 😁

I was interested in one of these heaters, just to keep a uniform heat inside my printer (M3 MAX). Does anyone know if this would work with an extraction system? I built a fume extraction for my printer to the outside as I print in the house in my home office/workshop, as I didn't want any fumes getting into the rest of the house. So, would the extractor remove all the heat as well as the smells or would this heater keep up with it?
Wonder if we can control this with klipper gor my voron v2 🤔

I don't believe it does.
These heaters are expensive for what they are.
They're not cheap, that's true. But, for example, if you buy all the parts you need to make a similar heater, you'll be very close to this same value. I've built a few heaters... there's always risks... will the parts I ordered work properly, etc. For the convenience of a unit that works, plus how tiny and compact it is (fitting in most printers), it represents pretty good value for money.

I've never really had any issues with heat. I always warm my resin and build plate before I print but then again I'm already printing in a heated room. I absolutely agree with cost issues in building one yourself but there really has to be a better way than these PTC heaters. In an enclosed space I can imagine fumes building up from heating the resin. Anyway it's done at the moment will hopefully change and manufacturers will come out with a better ideas to integrate the heating processes at a reasonable cost.

Just stick a reptile heat mat on inside of the lid and be done with it...why ponce about making a heater? For the price it's cheaper to buy a reptile mat...
Some folks do this, yes. I prefer enclosure heating. It's a personal choice 😁
