Bungie has an unhealthy obsession with solar exotic weapons. This weapon could have easily been void, considering there are no void machines and just a lack of void exotics in general. On top of that, all 3 heavy weapons in this DLC are in fact solar.
Right? The bloody perks even sound voidish, strange gravity. Should have been void, we already have a solar exotic hmg and a boatload of solar other exotics. Bungie needs to stop praising the sun.
This gun is STUPID good in PvP. With Field Scout I get 57 rounds, and its TtK is crazy low. I managed to get 8 kills out of a single heavy box last night, it's like pre-nerf Quillims but better.
Same and with the plethora of great legendary primaries and secondaries I dont mind running an exotic heavy, have been regularly getting 6 kills with it after I wait out the rocketfest.
Nice analysis. Would've liked to hear an example of that great sound when you were talking about it, but still very well done, and I like hearing a theorycrafter state the importance of having fun once in a while.

Great video Holtz! I personally love this weapon in both pve and pvp as it makes the wielder feel like Rambo while mowing down enemies. The look, sound and scopes of this weapon along with how lethal it is in pvp make this my favourite exotic of year 3 :P
I finally got this thing from a legendary engram last week. I'd been wanting this thing since I saw it in a trailer, because it looks /amazing/. On the release of RoI, I bought Radiant Treasures until I had both of the ornaments for it (I was grinding for Silver Bullet, but also got Meteorite in the process). Now that I have the gun? Holy mother of waffas, this thing is amazing. I've been a Machine Gun guy since Y1, and this thing is the single best MG I've ever used. It looks and feels amazing, and it melts everything I point at. I'm never using another exotic again (outside of boss DPS phases, maybe).
Just as a small little thing about the NS, if you look at the scope, you can see the three rings signifying that it's in burst or slow mode, but the last ring shows how much ammo you have left, the closer it is to being full, the closer it is to emptying the mag. Go ahead, try it!
I love the animation of this weapon as the rate of fire goes down: it spews flames from its vents and then eases up. I think this weapon should have been void though.

My friend said he was using field scout on the iron banner heavy machine gun and said that it actually decreased his ammo capacity could you like test to see if it's bugged on all weapons or just the iron banner one?
The extended range shouldn't do the bonus melee charge damage. Melee's are about 100 while changed melees are about 150. More range = less damage. I like the added range perk, just can be kinda bullshit.
Hey Patrick, you should make a comparison vid on the strongest weapons in the game (Black Spindle, gally horn, and sleeper slim). I would like to see how they hold out now and your take on them.

This is sort of Thunderlords cousin. While this gun shoot slower but increases the damage, thunderlord goes faster but remains the damage as it is. These two weapons are very similiar to their setups of perks and abilities which is kinda funny. I think this weapons would be an amazing choice to use if it did void damage. Just for the void burns in nightfalls and heroic strikes. Otherwise it will be overshadowed by the holy trinity that you mentioned which funny enough, all do solar damage.

I've had them myself mate, maybe 3 or 4 in total but given that my 'Lock (just my 'lock, I run all three) is rank 137 with the Cryptarch, I'd say "minute chance" is accurate :D
Any argument for leaving the final perk un-upgraded in order to prevent the RoF slow down (like many people did with Suros year 1) or since most of your killing power in pvp comes from the initial burst is it not worth it?
It has the same rate of fire and impact as thunderlord correct ? And what ever happen to that weapon that looks like a microphone or the solar and void based thunderlord exotics ?
Does the weapon do more damage when it's in slow firing mode because of the second exotic perk (more range) or does it do more damage simply because it fires slower?
I wondered that at first, too. After testing, it looks like the impact scales with the rate of fire. In other words, the slow firing mode does more damage per bullet.
You mean the If Materia ? Yeah that thing is badass, shame it's the sucky, high-fire rate archetype though. It just doesn't hit hard enough. It does depend how big the bosses crit spot is I guess, something like Sepiks will get wrecked by If Materia (especially with that extra fallen damage) but Phogoth has such a hard crit spot to hit that you won't do enough crits & the whole perk set of If Materia kind of falls apart.
I use this weapon in trials every Match. I haven't lost a Heavy Round since the last time I fought kjhovey. This is my favorite exotic I use for anything. And yes I know, Skill is also somewhat involved but this Weapon is destroying everything.
Do you mean more ammo per-brick or more total reserve ammo? I have a launcher with FS and an exotic chest with more heavy and boots too for good measure and I still only have 7 total rockets. I did not notice if bricks give more.

Seeing as there are now 2 Solar (SGA, NS) HMGs, which would be the "better" one to use? You know if using HMGs were in a position of strength?
