Touch Of Malice was OK, but for me personally the Vex Mythoclast and now the Outbreak Prime, are what I envisioned "alien" weapons to look like throughout the game when Bungie announced Destiny (must be the old Halo fan within me). I was actually quite disappointed to see we have generic/modern looking weapons even though the game is set in the future.

I agree as well...out of all the weapon and gear reviewers here on TH-cam...I think Patrick is most detailed and non-biased out of them...even when he doesn't like something or doesn't think that the gear in question is worth your time..he still gives you the reasons and perks of aquiring that piece of gear and truly looks at the said item from a developer mind-set... 😆
I feel like Bungie was afraid to make this gun too good... The headshot nanites do pitiful amounts of damage (and why does it have a cooldown?? Firefly doesn't have one) and the selectable perks are crappy. This is an *exotic*, it's supposed to be better than a legendary.
necrocasm was never op though... if you remember the necrocasm was the literal worst when it came out. i feel its more accurate to say they just didn't want another vex mythoclast
I think it was intended to be very much a raid exotic. It will shine with exotic greatness in the raid, but every where else, it's just an average pulse rifle. As opposed to ToM being good at a variety of activities with the right team load out pre-nerf, and the Vex and Necro not really having a place in their respective raids.
I think what makes this weapons really shine is when used in combination with other players that use the same weapon and when you add damage buffs to it like a tether that is applied on a boss or vikingfuneral fire since the boss takes more damage instead of the weapon dealing more damage when these two things are applied upon them. When I was running the raid to test this weapon out on the Vosik bossfight, my light level was 376. my teammates were just a few points off . some where lower, not less than 5 points, someone else was 3 points higher. What I managed to discover was that this primary ( and a bit of my light level) dealt a significant higher amount of damage against Vosik than my teammates that used Gjallarhorn and special weapons during the damage phases. I believe, what makes this weapon really do exceptionally well in PvE is the constant flow of damage that you deal with its exotic perks and the damage potential that it has when used not just by one person, but by many. the quest for this weapon also kinda suggests that it is intended to be used by many and do amazing damage by many players since it starts with the raid, you do the quest with two other players and progress through with them and at the end all receive that weapon together. Since each weapon procs their siva swarm individually, the damage potential goes up higher and higher the more players use that weapon. There's the theme of this weapon, the quest for it and the abilities that just all together suggest teamwork. I hope that if possible for future testing, you set up a team for the raid and everyone just uses the Outbreak Prime for boss damage. ( ofcourse with tether and anything else that can increase external bonus damage on the bosses)

This was by far the best review I've seen yet. I'm glad you compared it to the raid primaries with those heavy damage exotics as that's really what I've been looking for.
8:30, I guess the other raid primaries are like a cheaper but efficient version of the Outbreak Prime, but at least they could be meant for people who aren't willing to take the outbreak prime quest. Keep up the good reviews man! You the best!
Its worth noting that shooting a jug shield will cause its intrinsic perk to proc, making the titan easier to kill. While this isn't a good enough reason to use thus gun over a hawksaw , I still feel its worth mentioning
actually patrick, bungie did that on purpose when it came to the perks. people are already complaining about shinobu's vow making skip nades OP as hell. the last thing they wanted was for prime to be another vex mythoclast fiasco.
The issue isn't the game not being able to handle it, it's more than likely bungie doesn't want this gun to wreck in the crucible when it's obviously meant for the Raid.
Tarv Is if you're already getting multiple headshot kills against a group of enemies in PvP, you're probably not going to need the SIVA swarms anyways. Why should it be treated differently from weapons with firefly, that effectively do the same thing?
Idk man he's got a point, and besides, it'd be pretty badass to see swarms of nanites chasing everybody in PVP, or having clouds of nanites eating/destroying/absorbing/whateverthefucktheydo mobs of enemies. Imagine clouds of them around bosses, damn that'd be so cool. :D
Tarv Is it would be useless anyways. A guardians health would be very close to dead before the swarm can spawn. And if you get headshot kills they are already dead.
It's not great right now, IMO. This is how I'd improve it: - Make the Siva sworn proc more often (e.g. every 3-5 seconds) - Change Outlaw to Feeding Frenzy to allow us to get a boost to reload even when fighting Shanks (e.g. at the end of the raid where outlaw is currently useless).
I think leaving it low Damage but greatly buffing the uses will be the best way to balance it. Not enough damage to break the game, but enough blooming nanites to cull/maim crowds of enemies above other Exotics.

I have to say, this quest was genuinely some of the most fun I've had in video games. From the early stage of following along in the ARG, all the way to completing the raid multiple times on one character in a night. I don't think I really care the weapon isn't god tier. The whole experience was amazing. Highly enjoyed the review too. Holtzmann ++

While I thought the more casual, sardonic stuff here was a fun complement to your more sober and comprehensive Planet Destiny material, I was a bit dismayed at the possibility that you leaving PD means we'd lose out on that sort of content from you. Hey Patrick, I was wondering what source you use to find information on weapon perks that the in-game description doesn't show (Ex. Snapshot gives + 30% to ADS speed or Quickdraw giving you 100% equip speed??)
This weapon actually has Sign of Four as a hidden perk in addition to the siva swarm. The 4th burst itself will do more damage if the first three are on target.
Richard Fearn yes but still to the guys question it's a lag thing more than if the game can handle or if it would be op since it's an actual entity like the fusion rounds and rocket launchers and grenades and stuff like that but that all takes the capability to process the information too. but the gun is cool and still good you know
My only guess for the middle perk decisions by Bungie is they didn't want to make you have to decide on tradeoffs for the exotic where you lose something from one stat. For me, I want my exotics to feel exotic and do something no other gun does. Right now, I love seeing and spawning the nanites, but I wouldn't be opposed to them buffing the damage some because it is tricky to use an exotic slot over the Gjallarhorn which I will always love.
I feel you forgot to mention OP's most important (secret) perk... It's LL 390, and very helpful for farming higher LL gear til you're max light. Tempted to get 2 more as infusion fodder, but I'm sure we'll surpass the need quickly with the LL boosts on Tuesday.
I really like Outbreak. Me and my buddies were really looking forward to and I think it can be called an exotic weapon. It's unique and looks like an exotic. Touch, Nechrocasm, and the Mythoclast were all what I would definitely deem the title exotic even if it wasn't the best in damage or was a rather lack luster weapon. I do think Outbreak could use a buff, it feels like Bungie was a little scared making this weapon. Feels like they wanted to make it really great for the huge quest you have to do but didn't want it to get in the Crucible and create a meta of just Outbreaks. It's an interesting situation but I still really loved getting the weapon. Took me so long but I thought it was well worth it.
Would you recommend infusing this weapon into a legendary primary like the raid assault rifle and then repurchasing the exotic from the Kiosk? Seems like this is the general consensus around the raid community in efforts to keep your light up and still have the exotic slot for GHorn or Sleeper for DPS.
In my opinion, this and the Touch of Malice are good but only works in a single part in all the endgame activities, the Raid, Touch of Malice in the Sisters and Oryx, and Outbreak in all the boss encounters in the Wrath of the Machine
I always did the most dps vs Axis using this weapon when others used ghallies and swords. It was far from weak when fully powered up. I rocked in pvp with it too. I truly miss this gun.
I would like to see them increase damage/amount of siva swarms depending on the enemy it spawns on, major will have increased damage, minors(which I see guardians as also) will have increased siva spawned and bosses will have increased damage and amount
I quite enjoy this gun and feel it's worth using. It's great in trials and regular pvp as well. It's a moster in PvE against tier 1 guys and can holds its own in damage phases. Plus, it's not complete reskin of the Arms day guns (which all of the raid weapons are). Plus I enjoy using this guns, it's fun and rewarding. It sounds and looks amazing, and I feel it was totally worth the quest.
I feel like this gun is good but only great in Fallen content. Its lackluster outside of that. They really could of given it some of the better perks like perfect balance, hammer forge and crowd control.
Wish the virulence perk would activate again every 10 seconds OR after you reload the gun, that way it would have a very good synergy with outlaw. That would make this gun take the next step but not op
Thanks for clarifying. I hope this changes but because of Bungie's vision to keep pvp and pve feeling the same, I'm not sure how they can fix this without breaking it in pvp.
Patrick: how about comparing this to the damage a long held Malice can do. You could easily test it with a 350 re-ordered OP and upping Malice to 350 with a vendor weapon.
When the next weapon buffs and nerfs come in, I hope Bungie sees this weapon's needs for a buff would come in to make this weapon worth the exotic slot more likely. The quest to obtain this weapon is long but can be fun that this weapon should support it's quest to make it worth the time.
I say that bungie give the siva swarms more damage and can stay a few more seconds and the virulence perk can activate either 3 times then wait 15 seconds or it activates every 5 seconds
Why is nobody clarifying if the 4 bursts have to be on the same target, or if it can be different targets? I've watched about 4 reviews and nobody is talking about this particular aspect.
Idk if you know but Outbreak has intrinsic sign of four in addition to the siva perks, as well as higher stability and the fact that hakke pulse rifles are clunky and slow.
if anything bothers me it's that it does kinetic damage. Zhalo Supercell is truly the only elemental primary that's valid. SIVA is solar after all. this pulse rifle should be solar.
Seriously the Raid weapons are pretty much exotics anyway. They have perks that no other guns have and they look fucking awesome. They may be legendary but they are pretty much exotic.
Outbreak Prime's siva mites have NO cooldown against Aksis. I didn't hear you mention that in the review and it does play a big part in the final Aksis phase if you are using it.
I think the reason why they didn't make the swarm too powerful is cause they learned there lesson from thorn about damage over time especially since the siva swarm can spread
Great Review. Looks like I will definitely have to get this weapon. Though I doubt I'll use it much, being a hand cannon guy and honestly I don't really use guns that can be outdone by their respective legendaries.
Bad juju is amazing in the raid because you are killing so many ads you have to reload a lot and not reloading is great also I use golden gun on captains so I need super a lot and it makes it so I can always have my super

my main issue with this gun is the sights. it takes up most of the screen and i can't really see what I'm aiming at. cool novelty weapon, but not that great tbh...

The game doesn't have any issues displaying massive amounts of Wolfpack Rounds, so I don't see why these SIVA swarms would present any issue.

It's not great right now, IMO. This is how I'd improve it:

Totally agree. Also bump up the siva swarm dmg by around 20-25%. If it doesn't proc as often as firefly, at least boost the dmg a bit.

Patrick, Outbreak Prime also has Sign of Four. Check it out. the 4th burst does 50% more damage. That's in addition to the Nanite swarm.

It's worth noting that Outbreak's hidden perk is Sign of Four. So when you proc Sign of Four you proc The Corruption Spreads for even more damage.

Will this gun get a buff in the future?

In my opinion, this and the Touch of Malice are good but only works in a single part in all the endgame activities, the Raid, Touch of Malice in the Sisters and Oryx, and Outbreak in all the boss encounters in the Wrath of the Machine
I always did the most dps vs Axis using this weapon when others used ghallies and swords. It was far from weak when fully powered up. I rocked in pvp with it too. I truly miss this gun.
the fourth burst doesn't work on vex teleporters or the large taken orbs
I would like to see them increase damage/amount of siva swarms depending on the enemy it spawns on, major will have increased damage, minors(which I see guardians as also) will have increased siva spawned and bosses will have increased damage and amount
I quite enjoy this gun and feel it's worth using. It's great in trials and regular pvp as well. It's a moster in PvE against tier 1 guys and can holds its own in damage phases. Plus, it's not complete reskin of the Arms day guns (which all of the raid weapons are).
Plus I enjoy using this guns, it's fun and rewarding. It sounds and looks amazing, and I feel it was totally worth the quest.
I feel like this gun is good but only great in Fallen content. Its lackluster outside of that. They really could of given it some of the better perks like perfect balance, hammer forge and crowd control.
Wish the virulence perk would activate again every 10 seconds OR after you reload the gun, that way it would have a very good synergy with outlaw. That would make this gun take the next step but not op
Thanks for clarifying. I hope this changes but because of Bungie's vision to keep pvp and pve feeling the same, I'm not sure how they can fix this without breaking it in pvp.
It's crazy how this time around the raid legendary primary's are so good that the exotic gun falls a bit short
Patrick: how about comparing this to the damage a long held Malice can do. You could easily test it with a 350 re-ordered OP and upping Malice to 350 with a vendor weapon.

When the next weapon buffs and nerfs come in, I hope Bungie sees this weapon's needs for a buff would come in to make this weapon worth the exotic slot more likely. The quest to obtain this weapon is long but can be fun that this weapon should support it's quest to make it worth the time.

I say that bungie give the siva swarms more damage and can stay a few more seconds and the virulence perk can activate either 3 times then wait 15 seconds or it activates every 5 seconds
Why is nobody clarifying if the 4 bursts have to be on the same target, or if it can be different targets? I've watched about 4 reviews and nobody is talking about this particular aspect.

Idk if you know but Outbreak has intrinsic sign of four in addition to the siva perks, as well as higher stability and the fact that hakke pulse rifles are clunky and slow.
Outbreak has sign of 4 as a "hidden" perk. 4th pulse does more main damage that's NOT the nanite swarm.
if anything bothers me it's that it does kinetic damage. Zhalo Supercell is truly the only elemental primary that's valid. SIVA is solar after all. this pulse rifle should be solar.
Patrick, it's been confirmed on a post a little while ago, that the OP actually has the raid pulse perk as it's hidden perk, Sign of 4. Just saying :D
Seriously the Raid weapons are pretty much exotics anyway.
They have perks that no other guns have and they look fucking awesome. They may be legendary but they are pretty much exotic.
Outbreak Prime's siva mites have NO cooldown against Aksis.
I didn't hear you mention that in the review and it does play a big part in the final Aksis phase if you are using it.

I think bungie didn't want it to be mandatory for the raid (in terms of LFG groups) like ToM became.

Where are you on using this in a raid, considering it means no spindle, gally, raze lighter, etc...
OBP can activate the Nanites at 3x per magazine for dps and that's a lot...
absolutely worth doing the quest line.. even if you just infuse a 390!
How is it that holtzmann sounds monotone and expressive at the same time?
I think the reason why they didn't make the swarm too powerful is cause they learned there lesson from thorn about damage over time especially since the siva swarm can spread

Great Review. Looks like I will definitely have to get this weapon. Though I doubt I'll use it much, being a hand cannon guy and honestly I don't really use guns that can be outdone by their respective legendaries.
It would be cool if when the swarm can't find anyone after a few seconds they went back to you and healed you or were saved for the next swarm

Bad juju is amazing in the raid because you are killing so many ads you have to reload a lot and not reloading is great also I use golden gun on captains so I need super a lot and it makes it so I can always have my super

even in hard mode? i stil have a 400 bad juju laying around somewhere, might take it with me when wotm is the weekly
Does anyone know if you can buy this weapon from the kiosk? I am really considering to infusing it in a better primary and take advantage of that 390 light.
my main issue with this gun is the sights. it takes up most of the screen and i can't really see what I'm aiming at. cool novelty weapon, but not that great tbh...
It potentially has a hidden Sign of Four perk too.
