Schaff not noticing that the "orange trees" are actually peach trees on the Peach's Circuit speaks even more to its bland aesthetic
Wait those are supposed to be peaches?
They look like oranges so they're oranges
The castle in the near-distance does give it a nice sense of place-- I always feel like I know where I am in this track, which isn't as easy to say for the others... but yeah it's nothing special
It would make more sense that their PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES!
@Lost-SoulSilver they could be grapefruit for all we know. It is literally a pixel of orange. If you utilize reasoning, then it's obvious they are peaches on Peach Circuit.
Glad to see underappreciated actors like Tony Soprano getting the recognition they deserve
It's the guy
Why is this under my MARIO
Gabagool.
holy shit it's love letter guy
Tony Soprano Kart
My life will finally be complete when I see if Schaff personally prefers Donut Plains 1 over Donut Plains 3
Every day I pray for the answer to this age old question to arrive
Donut plains 3 is probably the only racetrack in the entire franchise in which you have to manually jump, that alone makes it the superior track.
Donut Plains 3 is my least favorite track in any game
skill issue
Wonder what would be in last place.
Choco Island 2? Bowser's Castle 2?
Vanilla Lake?
"Who's gonna be impressed by your mastery of the Super Circuit version of Rainbow Road?"
Hey, you'd be surprised what speedrunners can pull off. They broke this one in half.
I was looking for this comment! Even when this first came out, the shortcuts were the most fun part of the game. I remember slaughtering some of these levels way back when.
Also, worth mentioning that "the first handheld Mario Kart" was no small selling point for this game.
Finally, Schaffrilas covering the Mario Kart we all REALLY care about.
IKR? I couldn’t be more thrilled!
cant wait to see if bowser castle 4 is the best bowser castle
Even better is that this is the highest rated Mario Kart on Metacritic.
Yes SIR!
You jest, but I legitimately really like this one
Never played this game but I love hearing Schaffs opinions on stuff whether I watch it or not
Exactly

Fr
True
His opinion on this game was unironically terrible, take it with a pinch of salt and try the game yourself.
GBA Rainbow Road deserves much more appreciation and love. The Paper Mario Bowser Castle in the background, the lightning clouds that'll shrink anyone careless, the falling stars in the straightway, and of course the alternative booster path that leads to a cool skip. I used to nail that all the time. It definitely needs that Booster Course glowup or even a decent Tour port.
I love how James is keeping the ‘Tony Soprano was a playable character in Super Circuit’ joke he said in his character ranking. It’s such a random joke which is why I love it 😂
Explain how it's a joke? I play as him all the time whenever I revisit Super Circuit
Mandela Effect
It's not a joke he's a playable character in Super Circuit and for some reason never added to any other shame or even Tour
*any other game
The shortcuts in this game are super underappreciated.
The difficulty doesn't really come from finding them, but executing them. You can jump over SO MANY parts in so many tracks, but if you boost onto them you have to make sure you land on another part of the track after the jump otherwise you will fall off the stage or off-road. It truly feels like you're breaking the stage and I love it!
Do you know how to unlock Tony Soprano
@@lazyplushies1020 Complete GBA rainbow road in under 40 seconds by only touching the bounce railings
Yes, I love the shortcuts on yoshi desert, ribbon road, cheese land, lakeside park, cheep cheep island, etc!!
super circuit was my first mario kart and all the shortcuts made me so mad that mario kart 8 doesnt have more :(
I’ve always thought Wii U ribbon road is kind of like a sequel to GBA ribbon road. In the super circuit one it’s surrounded by presents at a child’s birthday, and the Wii U one is a couple days after the party when all of the presents are opened and strung over the floor, like he’s playing with them all at once
GBA Rainbow Road is shockingly good. I unironically think it’s one of the top 3 Rainbow Roads and is the most underrated track in the entire franchise.
It is one of very, very few courses I’ve ever spent a significant amount of time time trialing on. There’s just something about the music and all the absolutely ridiculous jump shortcuts you can pull off that makes me love it. Plus, I don’t know why but the rainbow effect it is one of my favorites, not the most impressive but it just lands with me for some reason.
@@gartthew4162 yeah
Same dude this is probably my 2nd favorite rainbow road and I think it’s insanely underrated, anythings better than that generic space station MK8 garbage >__>
There is a video on the speedrun history for this track, it's WILD
Same, it's one of the few Mario Kart tracks I've spent both playing it and doing time trials on it, the amount of things you can do with a Mushroom on this track is ridiculous

Since this was my first ever Mario Kart game I played, on my grey Gameboy Advanced SP, this video means a lot to me and I have to thank you Schaff of reminding me of simpler times.
I got the N.E.S styled one like the cool kids
"GBA Rainbow Road has nothing going for it"
Paper Mario reference tho
You know it's a good day when Schaff releases a Mario Kart video.

We have gathered here today to morn the loss of the sunset in Sunset Wilds.
*9:38** “maybe u could even see it as a reflection of Luigi’s psyche… and the less than sunny disposition he must have acquired in his brother’s shadow…”*
That placement of GBA Rainbow Road hurt my soul lol!
Yeah
Very underrated track.
I'm a sucker for Super Circuit's visuals. I love this game's artstyle so much
the visuals in super circuit have aged so much better than super mario kart's
The characters sprites worked better here then in MK64 because the tracks are in 2D so it dosen't look weird
it's kind of funny how the most memorable part of super circuit rainbow road is how the speedrun basically ignores half the course and consists of jumping around the map like it's a trampoline
Hope you’re doing alright after everything that’s happened this year. It is so tough losing family. Stay strong and thank you for so many hours of entertainment that i personally have never paid anything to consume.
Why does nobody talk about how BOWSERS FLYING CASTLE FROM PAPER MARIO IS IN GBA RAINBOW ROAD. It’s such a mind blowing deep cut detail that I’m shocked no one talks about
Also y’all know damn well that if they remade GBA Rainbow Road they’d have Bowsers flying castle from the Mario Movie instead of Paper Mario
The people who worked on Paper Mario 64 also worked on Super Circuit so it makes sense. The mice in Cheese Land are also based off Paper Mario 64
@@PhantomOfficial07 Ah that explains why the mice look familiar
@@PhantomOfficial07 wrong, the mice are from yoshis island
@@filipecardoso9820 I know but they're based off of how they looked in Paper Mario 64. Obviously the Super Circuit devs didn't work on Yoshi's Island so I doubt that's what inspired it
Maybe this rainbow road represents letting go of childhood and that castle is a metaphor on how you should let the childish things you used to do float away in the vast nothingness of space,
or maybe they just added it cuz it looked cool
6:13 This fits too well.
YAAAYY! GRASS! -Mabel Pines
8:41 schaff never even mentioned Bowser's flying castle from Paper Mario in the background, and that hurts
Missed opportunity to open the Shy Guy Beach bit with "Wow, GBA Shy Guy Beach, there it is" but in a happy voice
I actually think the Rainbow Road in Super Circuit is real cool! Having the edges of the course make you jump is far more interesting than just making you fall off. I also think the music is pretty nice too
gotta do spider man across the spider-verse now
3:17 these armless nick wilde cameos are the stan lee of 2020s
8:26 Have you seen the speedrun strats for super circuit rainbow road? That shit is wild. Mastery of that course is absolutely impressive.
Something sad about Broken Pier and Lakeside Park is that, in my opinion, these two tracks by far have the most remake value of any track outside of Ribbon Road and Sky Garden(even though they butchered that one). You could do so much with the themes of both those tracks and I really wish they got into Base 8, since now we’ll probably never see them again.
Even the Booster Course Pass could've do them Justice if Boo Lake and Riverside Park weren't in.
I feel like every track in this game has potential, yes even the circuits, but i don't think we'll ever see it now because of Mario Kart Tour, except for Cheese Land and Ribbon Road.
It's criminal how all the GBA tracks were shortened for some reason, but all the other retro tracks kept their length, with the exception of Bowser Castle 4, but i'm sure that's only the case because it's gonna get into the BCP and they wanted to pretend they're putting effort into it. And it didn't even keep the original theme it had...
i mean the tour version was alright,
@@Duskool they were shortened mostly because the turns themselves don't really work with tour's gameplay
the changes to the engine in later games are more in line with tour's gameplay, so they get minor edits
i mean, lakeside is actually datamined to be in tour very soon either late june or mid july in the supposed jungle tour. plus, there's always room for the next game.
I really cannot disagree with you more regarding this game's Rainbow Road. It is legitmately an incredibly well-designed track, and it's incredible watching speedrunners abuse the jump pad barriers to break it in half. The visuals are also great, with the Paper Mario Bowser's Castle appearance in the background being an awesome reference. Honestly, I also think it has one of the best music tracks of any Rainbow Road. I love how it starts off with a slight remix of the SNES Rainbow Road theme before branching off into completely unique territory. Personally, I would absolutely put it in the Top 5 for Super Circuit courses.
Honestly didn't notice that about the beginning bit.
The souless eyes on Mario and Luigi is just..💀
Love you branching out your content, Schaff!
Yeah, it’s great to see him review things he’s not too familiar with!
The remake for GBA Mario circuit is mostly memorable to me as the course where Dashie and Donkey Kong's rivalry finally fully took off
I wanted to see how each of the Cup's did as a group in the ranking, so I gave them a score from 1 to 20 based on their position. (lowest gets 1 point highest gets 20 you get it). Here are the results.

4. Flower Cup - 32
3. Star Cup - 39

I’m sorry but the Boo lake/Broken Pier music is actually great in my opinion. Easily my favorite Ghost theme in any Mario Kart. It has such a delightfully haunting tone with a rockin drum beat to make it slap. On top of that the remix in 8 Deluxe is downright phenomenal

Super Circuit was my childhood Mario Kart. Always happy to see it being talked about!
Surprised you didn't mention the fact that in Broken Pier, the side bumpers break when you hit them and are straight up gone for the rest of the race. A terrifying prospect for younger siblings everywhere.
This game’s circuit theme is the best out of all the games in the series! It’s so jazzy and upbeat! 😎🎶🎵🎺
Yo Schaff. Review Across the Spider Verse. It was fantastic as hell. And surprisingly a "perfect sequel"
Agreed, I didn’t think it was possible until I watched it
I didn't really like it
3:23 great xavier reference. We got joshed
14:20 That is a GOATed YTP reference sir.
0:34 this aged well
Honestly, Sky Garden's song feels like it could have been the track to a rainbow road. If rainbow road had a slightly altered version of sky garden's song that included the original's ending, I would think that it could still be in A-Tier for the music alone.
Snow Land's shaky cam is because the ground is made of the same material some of the bridges in the game tun on. Like, if you pay attention to the screen shaking when you drive in the bridges in Lakeside Park or the ghost courses, then yeah. Idk why they made the entirety of Snow Land's course has this but yeah.

Personally Ribbon Road has been my easy favorite and not even close. Not just the theme but it's a course that is so satisfying to get those boosts chained together and maintain your speed.
Oh and I actually really like this version of Rainbow Road for just the best shortcut in any Rainbow Road. Requires a lot of practice to stay lined up and aim your jump correctly, but so satisfying to land.
You know it’s a good day when Schaffrillas releases a ranking video
That floating Bowser sky castle in Rainbow Road is pretty cool. I couldn't stop staring at that all throughout the segment.
I pray for your sanity in the Super Mario Kart ranking
The artwork for the track selection is a really nice touch for this game.
It’s also pretty impressive for how Mario Kart turned out in the Gameboy Advance, it’s a slightly more updated version of Super, but the whiplash of improvement you get from that to DS is super impressive. Can’t wait for the next video!
One thing i love about this game is the luigi blimp on the final lap on luigi circuit it starts to fly away and on the next track sky garden its flying in the clouds with tony soprano and the other racers

As a fan of broken pier, gba rainbow road and liking this game slightly more than 64…fair enough lol
Can you try rankings ever Nickelodeon movie
I gotta be honest, Broken Pier honestly might be my favorite track in Super Circuit. The gloomy atmosphere combined with the tricky, yet fair course layout works really well, and not enough people give it the credit it’s due. Once you master the controls of the game, it really clicks and is super satisfying to control. Maybe it’s worse on NSO for some reason, but on original hardware, it really clicked for me
I agree. I honestly have a fun time with Broken Pier. I would love for it to make a comeback, but I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon. I’m glad there are people that do appreciate this course
This was my first mario kart game. I have so many memories playing it with my dad when I was a kid :)
My dumb ah thought bowser was flipping me off in the thumbnail 💀💀💀
8:10 You underestimate the Rainbow Road of this game (quite possibly the most underrated one in the series). The music of this stage at times sounds like it may have inspired several pieces of music in both Super Mario Galaxy games after updating the only hook in the original rainbow road. Also the background with Bowser's floating castle from Paper Mario 1 gives this Rainbow Road an unpretentious but slightly eery feel considering that the music is joyous yet ominous but also playful all at the same time.
In fact, I watched this video where this guy ranked it as his favourite because although most other Rainbow Roads feel like there telling you well done for making it to the end and being quite celebratory suggesting the endgame of the game, Super Circuit's Rainbow Road's music not only suggests the endgame but can also suggest the end of childhood. The inflections of the music starts with a you've made it to the end well done, then goes all playful when it's like how about one more race for glory and towards the end of the tune the playful music slows down and becomes ever so slightly sadder as if it's saying to you it's ok to be sad as you've made it to the end but you should be proud of yourself for what you have been able to achieve. Honestly it makes me cry sometimes.
th-cam.com/video/YLXMjq87LlI/w-d-xo.html
I find it sad that this one gets snubbed and forgotten as I find a lot of the other Rainbow Roads try to be a bit too OTT grand and pretentious whilst this one is subdued, but playful and commemorative all at the same time even keeping in with the mystical feel that would eventually be implimented in Super Mario Galaxy where the pretensions are understandable and made those games iconic.
And also, this is my first and will always be my FAVOURITE (yeah I said it 0:15) Mario Kart game due to how close it is to my heart, the absolute nostalgia I have for it with it being on the GBA and the actual creativity and surrealism put into these tracks that haven't properly been replicated since despite having more flashy an gravity defying tracks nowerdays.
This is the only Mario Kart game I have played that made me feel like I was playing on an actual Formula 1 Grand Prix tournament when I was a kid.
8:56 I WILL CRY TEARS OF JOY WHEN IT GETS THE BEAUTIFUL AND MARVELOUS REMASTER IS SO WELL AND TRULY AND THOROUGHLY DESERVES.

@@mariajimenafigueroa233 Don't forget Irritating
A lot of them are kind of generic and don’t really do anything interesting. Wii, sunset wilds, 7, and to an extent 64 are all outliers here
3:45 "The occasional annoyingly sharp turn" My brother in Christ you are taking a shortcut in that footage
This is my tier list, excluding the SNES remade tracks, for now:
F tier:
20. Snow Land
Visually hurts my eyes. Honestly, this is the worst track in the series because of that.
D tier:
19. Yoshi Desert
-Sorry, but there is a much better desert track in Super Circuit. Besides the oasis and the quicksand Piranha Plants, this track is forgettable. But, it’s not the worst desert track.
18. Bowser Castle 2
It might be one of the most mediocre Bowser’s Castles, but it still has some charm.
Onto B tier, because I kind of like the Super Circuit tracks, IMO:
17. Peach Circuit
-I have a lot of nostalgia for the first handheld track.
16. Mario Circuit
-But, there’s something so underrated about Super Circuit’s Mario Circuit.
15. Boo Lake
A course known for its layout, the music, the Boos, and the visuals.
14. Riverside Park
-A simple course that has catchy music. It’s short, but the jump at the end is a highlight for things to come in this game.
A tier:
13. Luigi Circuit
-One of the most unique tracks because of its rain setting.
12. Bowser Castle 1
-It’s the first portable Bowser’s Castle, and I think it’s better than the SNES Bowser’s Castles. It might be short, but it’s visually imposing, and the music rocks!
11. Bowser Castle 3
-This Bowser’s Castle has some of the most tricky turns for the Castles; and unlike most Castles, it takes place outside. Plus, Kamek is seen on this course.
S tier:
10. Cheep Cheep Island
-I love the sunset vibes and the music. Too bad it hasn’t been remade yet!
9. Shy Guy Beach
-I love the theme, the layout, and music. Plus, the pirate ship blasts cannonballs from time to time!
8. Bowser Castle 4
-Do I need to say how unde-rappreciated this course is? It’s a course that has clearly a bomb plain and center. Also, until the Ribbon Road remake came to MK8D as DLC, this was the only appearance of the Mechakoopas for a while. Those guys are underappreciated as obstacles. This track is also challenging because of its layout. It’s my favorite of the GBA Bowser’s Castles. But, it’s not my favorite GBA track.
7. Rainbow Road
-The first portable Rainbow Road with a Paper Mario reference. I always thought this track was underrated.
S+ tier:
6. Cheese Land
-The music, the theme, the mice, and the two loop jumps make this course iconic. Who knew a course made of cheese would be so much fun?!
5. Broken Pier
-It has lowkey one of the most underrated and scariest background designs in Mario Kart. Plus, the track is challenging, and the Boos are jerks.
4. Lakeside Park
-It is one of the first dynamic courses in Mario Kart history. (Besides the first instances seen with the SNES Bowser’s Castles’ Thwomps.) After the second lap, the volcano explodes with fury, and balls of lava fall onto the track, hitting unlucky players. Plus, this level has one of the most infamous sections with that one turn. Truly, a hidden gem that should’ve been in the Booster Course Pack over its Riverside counterpart.
3. Sky Garden
-One of the best GBA courses hands down. It feels like I’m on a course inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk. Truly iconic.
2. Ribbon Road
-The theme and two turn jumps make this track unique and fun. More fun than most Rainbow Road.
1. Sunset Wilds
-It has an amazing theme, an amazing background gimmick, an amazing design, amazing enemies, and amazing music. Too bad the Booster Course Pass botched its remake.
I always imagined that because of track order the storm at luigi circuit is actually the same as the clouds from sky garden, because we see the blimp take off in LC and we see it again right after in SG
Definitely an underrated Mario Kart Game
Well. Sunset wilds got in the booster corse pass.
