I've played Jamboree with 10 different people so far and they all unanimously agreed that Gate Key-pers is the worst minigame by far. Like at least in MP3 there's a Beat Goes On is worst camp and an MPIQ is worst camp among my friends
@@SchaffrillasProductions the only people I have ever seen enjoy this minigame are the TH-camrs Sophist and TCNick3 but that’s because they enjoy other’s suffering more than their personal happiness when playing Mario Party.
The reason Mario Party 8 has so many duel minigames is because the story mode is exclusively duel mode. So you’re incentivized to play a ton of 1v1 parties in a row to unlock the final board and both of the secret characters.
For DS, there's an infamous mic strat where you just rub your finger left and right across the mic. That effectively turns toppling terror into a weird mutation of a button mashing minigame. In toppling terror's defense though, the whomp can do a fakeout where it's about to fall on top of one team, just to quick flip the other way and crush the other team, which is absolutely hilarious. Also, shoutouts to DS download play letting 4 people play from a single cartridge.
I'm so mad they never brought back Download Play😩 I know it's 'cause Nintendo's money hungry nowadays, but I had some real fond memories playing DS games with friends and my cousins back in the day
To be fair to DS, one of the best minigames somehow IS a Mic one. Short Fuse is really only a tangential mic game, because the goal is actually to NOT blow out your mic. It’s basically a game of chicken with a bomb fuse, where you want to blow the fuse very specific amounts to either save yourself or screw over your opponents. Lots of mind games to be played, making it one of the most skill-based minigames in the series, and my personal favorite.
@mrpiccionedivino5598same could be said to the bowser bomb game, where everyone else needs to pick the wrong lever too. Atleast here you got influence over the outcome
I would say that all of the mic minigames on DS is solid, but I would say the weakest minigame from every minigame and the mic minigame for this game is Gusty Blizzard.
I really appreciate how you waste no time and get right into the video. No overly long intros or sponsorships, you just give us what we came here for. That's really admirable.
I second this. I always hate it when TH-camrs go, "You probably know what [topic] is, but let me take one or two minutes to explain it anyways!" If you clicked on the video you almost certainly know what it means to be a bad Mario Party minigame, no need for an intro.
Gate Keypers feels like if I messed up the countdown on Mario Kart, but instead of spinning out for a few seconds, I instead have to wait for everyone to pass lap 1.
The number of times someone got a key the very first turn in that game and everyone else had to fight for barely anything was staggering to me. I even felt bad when I did it.
@@meloelebi1996if a game still makes you annoyed for getting first well… You know you screwed up a game’s design I would know as I’m the same when I get first 🫤
Gate Keypers is brutal. I played it with my dad for the first time, and he got it right on his first go, getting first place. I also didn't get any correct keys, rubbing salt in the wound.
My friends and I actually had the opposite problem with 7's mic minigame. We never had any issues with the mic and the game is super easy, so it essentially became a free "double your coins" space for basically no effort.
Yeah that's been my experience too. It's just so basic, especially when you get just 3 cards. But almost every time the CPUs fail the minigame somehow (except like Master difficulty).
Good because I don’t think there’s a single soul who would put The Beat Goes On and Crate and Peril in the TOP 100 MINIGAMES. The title being “100 Minigame Collection” makes more sense
"I can't imagine anyone going crazy for any of 3's battle mini-games." Literally shows Locked Out, the minigame my siblings and I were obsessed with. We would start up MP3 JUST to play that minigame.
I know I was a bit shocked cause I love the battle minigames in 3, 2s are really good but theres a few I'm not a huge fan of, but I love every single one in 3 and its a nice variety. Locked out is amazing with human players
Oh! Well hello there Mr. Intellectual! Funny seeing you here~ Locked Out does indeed seem fun as hell with Siblings. Maybe I'll grab a few homies to play it one day!
@@courtneycomriethe only reason I hate the word battle is stacked deck & all fired but my worse is far from it roulette CPU never target wario sometimes while 2 star lead the fat yellow German wins! 😂
27:34 Fun fact, there IS a way to know where the remaining flags are! Your character’s head faces where the last flags are. How are you supposed to know that? I don’t know. And even then it’s not that reliable because they also face any nearby players
For Jamboree, it's true that you're better off relying on someone else to make a path through the marbles, but I've often fended off the person behind me by preemptively punching them. If we get skilled enough, the mind games of punching someone will go crazy
I think the metagaming for Jamboree has some serious potential honestly. Many of these minigames are greater than the sum of their parts. Although Gate Key-pers still sucks balls.
@@TrueCrouton I think gate keepers should have that you need too win two rounds not be a single win with you becoming last if you do get the right key then you become second or third to go
@gameuniverse5973 the issue there is that doesn't change the luck aspect and would make it less fun as it drags the mini game out even further. Besides, the meta game there is to always try the same key over multiple gates before exhausting all options. Since the point of the mini game is to gather info about which key goes where, when the first person picks a key to a gate, you pick the same key for another gate so as to give yourself a better chance of success while denying any more info from being gained.
Ya I don't understand his hate for jamboree. It's actually the best Mario party in a long time. It's WAY better than any of the Wii or Wii I trash. I can tell from this video that he played one round then just went through all the mini games, with an overly critical view point (cus he's making a critical video) and picked the worst. For example he complained you always have money for stars. Not in my games. Jamboree is the most cut throat Mario party yet. It has the most dueling items and has other ruthless items like traps. Jamboree takes the friendship ending aspects of Mario party and cranks it to 10 and I love that. Also it's a fucking party game. Why is he so against luck based games? Mario party would be boring if it was all skill. You need the luck to give the less skilled players a chance and actually make the game fun. Like serious wtf? The entire board game aspect is luck. How do you hate luck games in Mario party so much?
Gate Key-pers is just the inverse of Bowser's Big Blast, getting rid of all the tension immediately only to waste minutes of time deciding on the order of the losers. Honestly I don't know how such an idiotic idea for a game made it into the finished product.
Let alone in a Mario Party after the first few. At least the bad mini games in the first couple games have the excuse of it being relatively early on and the developers experimenting at the time
@@fortynights1513i think what they where going for was that you have way more combinations and plans to do with the three gates with five keys but fail to realize it does not work well on practice with it becoming even worse rng than bowser big blast
Hey, at least it doesn’t control like ass, looking at you Rosalina’s Radical Race, my pick for the absolute worst minigame in Super Mario Party Jamboree.
@@gameuniverse5973If you ask me, luck based mini games come down to how interesting the presentation and setup of the game is. Part of why I enjoy Stacked Deck is the fact that the Boo cards can change the order of gameplay, and the reveal is well executed too. Lucky Lineup I like because of the slot presentation too. By contrast, Gate Keepers is luck based at the start (though it does become process of elimination to be fair), and rather uninteresting to me.
Another bad thing about M.P.I.Q. is that if you buy a cartridge used you have no idea the amount of time people before you played it or their high-scores.
@@fortynights1513 mpiq is the only quiz minigame to refrence things outside of itself exclusively. its really neat. if played properly, its a good minigame, although it is too easy to exploit.
It probably is the easiest when you consider that the two wrong answers are uniform default ones while records beaten is a number with unique milliseconds. So if you clear the data it’s actually harder
I accidentally got it first try by mashing A and it just so happened that the first key went with the first door. I hadn't realized I won until I looked up from my phone 5 seconds later and realized I had already taken my turn and the gateway was blocked.
11:40 thanks for using my old video. I was 18 at the time this was filmed but yeah the mic is really nitpicky. My brother had a similar issue where he didn’t say bananas he said banana and it didn’t count it
13:58 funny story I have with Flip the Chimp. I remember being at a friends house and 2 other people got this as a duel minigame. Neither one of them could get it up and the game decided to take mercy on them and time them out. Before then, I didn't realize a minigame like that couldn't be timed out.
The worst part about gate key-pers is that in order to 100% it the game requires you to win in first place. If one cpu gets it before you you have to either go back to the hot air balloon or wait either way it’s the worst luck based mini game I’ve ever played.
Another problem I have with Jamboree that I don't think was mentioned in the video was that some minigame continue even if there's only one player remaining. Which isn't necessary bad if it would mean that if the final player lose it would count as a tie. But the worse thing is that, on the "everyone navigate platform while shyguy on a tree trunk pursue us" and the "indiana jones rock game", if the final player lose, they still end up first. So why not just stop the minigame once one player remain? It just feel like making everyone else waste time
You ever played the Wii Party’s? They’re kind of the reverse Mario Party in that they only have one board but a ton of side games, but I think their mini-games are really good!
it's so funny because i love aim of the game, because without fail, me and my family get way too trigger happy and usually two or more of us end up accidentally negating our entire score, even when we know very well how the game works LOL
Dude the concept isn’t even the issue either. It’s just that when your only way of flipping the chimp is to try swing your Wii remote as and GENTLY as possible, only to get the chimp to spasm, you know you’re gonna have a rough time 😭
4:59 I've rarely pulled this off with friends or family growing up, but somehow guessing the correct cannon with all 3 players inside is the BEST feeling you could ever get.
24:25 how dare you, this was one of my favorite mini games in Mario party 8 actually, for the sole reason that my older sister somehow never figured out what the best five cards were to get, and so I beat her literally every single time and got all the money
arent you supposed to blow into the mic rather than scream in it in Mario Party DS? it actually makes the mic games a lot easier, even against expert NPCs which are known for being impossible to beat in some games
Honestly this is the first time I've heard of somebody screaming at the Mic for the DS minigames, even the minigames say in the about instructions to *blow* into the mic
Maybe it's because even though blowing makes it easier, it also makes you lightheaded doing it constantly. So, I don't think it's too weird to imagine some kids screaming into it instead for that reason. Then again, spinning control sticks with your palm is way more painful despite being an objectively better strategy as well so what do I know?
12:54 I loved Mario Party DS growing up, and I still do. And I never really had an issue with the mic games, mainly because I figured out all you had to do what just press your finger against the mic and the DS still registered that as a "input". I never understood at the time, and I honestly don't remember how I figured that out, but that was my go-to move if I had to play a mic mini game lol
Mine was blowing really softly. It was always max power. Plus I was a clarinet player as a kid so my breathing control meant I could make it through a minigame without breathing or only taking one breath
16:11 So a thing to note is that 9 onwards was made by NdCube, which consisted of a large number of former Hudson Soft employees. This includes a lot of MP staff. In fact, the Game Director of 9 and 10 (as well as Star Rush, Top 100, and Super) was the same one who directed 6, 7, and 8. So the car decision was likely not Nintendo's choice, but the MP devs who had been working on the series for years choice.
I think the problem with the GCN mic is that it's looking for the higher pitches of their target demographic. The bonus card game never gave me any trouble when I played 14 years ago.
@thatoneguy9582 Ohh so that's how you describe it I kinda like it for some reason I don't know why the handle is appearing as just text but it's pissing me off
I have legit seen a group of friends get Gate Key-pers and I kid you not the first three all got the correct gate first try, leaving the fourth with nothing
So, another fun fact about MP4’s Fish n’ Drips that works against the team of 3 (albeit rarely): The team doesn’t win the minigame when they press the final button, but rather when they turn around and flip their bucket into the water. The solo player, however, wins the moment they press that last button. So that can create a scenario where the team finished pressing all their buttons first & thus completed the task first… and yet the SOLO PLAYER still wins because their water-pumping animation happens before the bucket-flipping animation starts. EDIT: Also, I’m gonna be the Devil’s Advocate for a sec. 11:32 - The mic isn’t perfect, for sure. But this clip was just a blatant instance of using it wrong and that being the player’s fault. No microphone accessory in a video game is going to be perfect, but if you aren’t using it how the game is plainly requesting you use it, then I say an instance like this can’t be used as a valid criticism against the game/mic.
13:13 you never have to scream though? Its exactly like the other mic minigames you just have to blow. You dont have to scream i dont know where your getting that from?
Gate Key-pers by a long shot is the worst minigame of Jamboree, and it's frankly criminal that you have to get first place in solo mode to collect all of the mini stars. However, honorable mention to Hot Cross Blocks, which I've found my personal best strategy is to mash all 4 buttons at once and let God decide (same for Lost and Pound, and Peach's Day Off's donut round).
I just looked it up, Hot Cross Blocks will let you go a solid 5 minutes before declaring a draw. This is insane, given that human players of average intelligence are more than likely to stalemate if they are playing with any strategy that isn't random.
The funny thing about the Bonus Mic Game is that if you set the Mic to the controller, it turns into a completely trivial way to double your coins every time.
There is a duel candy, which serves with the purpose of allowing you to challenge the first person you come across after rolling two dice. That’s probably why so there’s more options.
Mario Party 3 has a minigame called Cheep Cheep Chase that is quite literally impossible to win against super hard cpus. As a result, i believe that has to be the worst minigame!
@danielsolomon6211 my friends and I have hundreds of hours on mp3 and we have never beaten it. The only way I could see it being possible is if the cpus died to the fish/mines but that's never happened. Their a presses are inhuman
I cannot believe crate and peril isn't your pick for worst mp6 minigame, I think it's probably the single most unbalanced 1v3 of all time and that is saying a lot with the series track record in that deparment
1 v 3 are too me probably the hardest to balance you need to think of the concept of the game to work with a single person doing the same thing as the three with it being fun and balance
@@gameuniverse59731 v 3 games are hard to balance but crate and peril takes things to a whole new level. Even in most unbalanced 1 v 3’s it’s possible for either side to win. Not here. Most horrifically unbalanced mini-game ever made.
@@JacekDeMelo you said even most unfair 1 v 3 either side can win let me introduce you to unfriendly flying object if you even know how the platforms can flip with sliding on the ground with it counting has having a hit box Also that one arche rival copy in jamboree with the 3 holding the targets it found out if you keep shaking back and forth with no strategy it literally impossible for the 1 to score any points since the arrows fly off if the target is moving while it hits it
I think the main reason why Mario Party 8 had so many duel minigames, was the story mode, it was always a 1v1 mode, so it did make sense, especially when the majority of those games were just copied from the 4 player minigames
25:08 Not to mention if you play this minigame in partner party, if your teamate loses, you still win. SO THAT MEANS THAT NO MATTER WHAT, EVERYONE WINS THIS MINIGAME SO IT'S JUST A COMPLETE WAIST OF TIME.
Gate-kypers was actually one of my favs and I'm genuinelly surprised it's disliked this much. Remembering what keys fit on what doors, and making guesses based on what keys have been, is a pretty fun rng mechanic. The downside is that only p1 really gets a good reward and the others fight for scraps. This would've worked perfectly for a battle minigame where becoming 2nd is rewarding.
At least DWW looks actually ok, and the wiggler getting mad is actually a genuinely scary jumpscare since you don't know when it will happen, but i still respect your opinion
Worst part of the Mario Party 10 minigame Keepaway Mayhem? IT'S REALISTIC. I played soccer for my entire childhood, and this type of passing was torture if you were caught in it. We called it Triangle Passing, not sure if there are other names for it.
The worst thing with Gate Key-pers too is if everyone gets super unlucky. You run through all the keys for each door, we managed to narrow it so the last 3 keys on the last door became a 50/50 as one of the players took a mjssed key on door 2 and tried it on door 3 ahead of time, and then when it was the 50/50 between the two untested keys, the game just took one of those away giving the second player in the case just a guaranteed lose
I feel like gate key-pers went over my head as a "bad" minigame (which it still is), mainly because Tricky Turntables was what really made me realize the horrid pacing of some of Jamboree's minigames. However, Gate Key-Pers won't escape my bottom 2 minis in Jamboree because of the fact that it contributed to an agonizing *17 minute turn*, of running the Jauntlet for Jr and playing Rocky Wrench's boss fight TWICE for VS minigames...and finally ending the turn off with a bonus minigame of what else but Gate Key-Pers. Jamboree's still a fun game though :]
@@chrish4439 I don't hate luck minigames! Bowser's Big Blast is literally one of my all-time favorites because of how it's presented. It's a tense, last man standing minigame where everyone's holding their breath when a lot of money is potentially on the line. Gate Key-Pers is admittedly still a funny minigame at least, but since it's formatted in a "who gets out first" format, there is a shockingly high chance that you play this minigame where the player that goes fourth, third or even SECOND loses their chance to win before their turn even comes up. I'd be less harsh on that idea if, say, the order was based on reverse placement order (i.e. 4th goes first, 3rd goes second, and so on), but modern Mario Parties seem to just...never do that anymore.
I think we can all agree that M.P.I.Q is the worst minigame in the entire series. It's supposed to be a full trivia minigame, but EVERY TIME YOU PLAY IT WITH OTHERS IT JUST DEVOLVES INTO EVERYONE MASHING. It's such a fun minigame, but everyone always ruins it >:(
Another awesome video! Thank you so much for your continued content, it's exceptionally well done and has great production value! Your videos and content have made 2024 a lot more enjoyable, during what has otherwise been a pretty bad year.
I would like to mention Island Tour’s Sky’d and Seek as a contender for the worse Minigame in that entry. The concept is fine enough, but the scoring system killed it for me. You guess how many Paragoombas and Paratroopas ended up in the cloud at the end, with some entering and leaving, while others stay inside. All the while you use the stylus to take notes on the bottom screen. The issue is that you are awarded ONE point each by getting the exact number correctly. Any other number would give you nothing. That means with how the scoring system is set up, with 0, 1, and 2 being the only numbers involved, there are bound to be ties (Which in the party mode gets broken by a dice roll). If the scoring system is based on how close to the answer you have, rather than getting the number exactly, this game would be perfectly fine.
0:31 For me MP1’s worst is definitely Bash ‘n Cash. I can’t get over the fact that the reward for the solo player somehow skillfully dodging the other 3 player’s hammers and/or retrieving all their coins back is they do not lose coins. Nope, the solo player doesn’t steal the other 3 players coins. Just nobody gets anything. This game was set up for the solo player to lose because they are legit playing for a draw. I was gonna pick one of the joystick rotation games since they have ways of either tearing up your hand or tearing up your controller, but yeah. Bash ‘n Cash is just evil.
I actually like what they did with platform peril. I love the original, but the new one does offer some more platforming as you try to optimize how many coins you get. I understand the hate, but I still think it’s fun.
16:06 It's literally the same team doing all these games. Hudson was absorbed by Konami in between MP8 and MP9. Nintendo transferred the Hudson team in charge of Mario Party into a dormant subsidiary called ND Cube. The first president of ND Cube was the former president of Hudson. The current president of ND Cube is the director of MP6, MP7 and MP8.
Gate Key-pers is HYPOTHETICALLY interesting, keep track of what keys have been used on what doors, but there are really only two approaches that logically make sense and removes the one interesting idea. The "strats" are either focusing on one door with each key because assuming someone isn't lucky with the first key, it just means the right key is still on the table, and that chance only goes higher as you use more keys on one door. Or you take the risk of going over to the next door using a previously used key seeing as it'd be a 50/50 at that point assuming the key isn't a dud. Structurally it's basically an inverted Bowser's Big Blast. While interesting in concept, execution wise? It's dumb.
the worst mp1 minigame is definitely the 1v3 tug-o-war that one is notorious for destroying joysticks because of how the minigame is played. nintendo even sent out special gloves to some people who were injured from using their palms to rotate the stick really fast
It's not a bad idea, but just had unforseen consequences due to the nature of the hard plastic joystick. Modern ones have a soft rubber cap. It's a shame because mechanically it's kind of fun to spin the stick as fast as possible and I personally enjoyed the minigames that used it, but there's factoring potentially destroying the control stick alignment from wear and tear faster.... it's a compromise. (personally I wish they brought back Paddle Battle though. Something about the 1 vs 3 nature of the minigame where a solo guy pushes 3 opponents at a bank to see them stabbed by a Shyguy was just so amusing to me, but I guess it's mechanically similar to Tug of War...I still prefered paddle Battle though.)
The trick with the DS mic minigames was to blow air into it. It basically had the same effect and meant you could play on road trips and not annoy your family.
As bad as Gate Keypers is, I will say one of the funniest minigame experiences I've had was on round one; Player one missed a key, and all three of us got a success first try.
16:52 it's a shame that bowser jr's boss was mentioned here since that battle includes arguably the best song in MP9's soundtrack (the one that plays when jr's mad)
Don’t Wake Wiggler reminded me of Balloon Busters from 7. I hate both. Because with BB you think you’re safe because only one person is allowed to be behind cover when the balloon explodes, but then you step up to the platform with other people in the danger zone, one breath of air later, and you lose. Plus they’re both jumpscare simulators.
@@chefboyardeebeefaronilover I mean metaphorically! Like, it's the kind of Mario Party where you buy it to get a taste for the series. Then you buy the newest one, realise how (quite frankly) terrible Island Tour was compared to it and then burn it in the street
Mario Party 7 at LEAST has the option to make it so you don't need a mic to play mic minigames, and opt for a menu instead But now that it works, the minigame is Too easy, and because it's double or nothing-- I selected Banana and now im up 99+ coins
31:22 The worst thing is that in the story mode you HAVE to get 1st to 100% the mode. This led to me having to take 17 attempts (I counted after the first one because I learned it was a luck minigame) just to get first and a majority of them I lost before I could even play the fucking game. The game just decided then and there that I move last and then the person who went 2nd gets a key first try and wins the whole game before I could do anything about it. It was aggravating knowing that I could be playing any of the other minigames but instead I had to restart that stupid ass game like 20 times just to get first once. Asides from that some of my picks for the worst ones would probably be the showdown games since they’re long for no purpose. Do we really need to play pinball for 3 full ass minutes just to see who can get one of the worst allies in the game?
The worst game in the *series* is Game Guy Roulette, and I will accept no substitutes. It's EVERYTHING wrong with luck-based mechanics in Mario Party, let alone luck-based minigames. Game Guy as a whole is the biggest blemish that MP3 has (whoever thought that it was a good idea to have spaces on the board -- MULTIPLE spaces per board at that -- that *force* you to gamble every coin you have in a luck-based minigame is a *madperson* ), but Roulette is the worst of the bunch by a large margin. You have less than a 30% chance of winning AT BEST. But if someone DOES manage to win after betting on one of the smaller spaces, the entire GAME might as well be over, because the number of coins that Roulette can pay out makes the Switch games look stingy. We're talking hundreds of coins, potentially even reaching the cap of 999 coins depending on how much you started with, all because of *ONE* minigame. And as far as gameplay goes? All you do is pick an option on a list and watch a shell spin around a board for 15 seconds. The other players can't even do anything but watch. It's been almost 25 years since 3 came out and I still can't believe that Hudson and Nintendo looked at Game Guy and his minigames and thought "yep, this is fine".
If you could choose to bet a number of coins instead of being forced to bet everything would that have been better? And what do you think of the gameplay of the Game Guy minigames?
@@fortynights1513 Looks like my original response got shadowbanned, so let's try this again: It would have absolutely been better, though the potential rewards would still be too much. The idea of a single minigame being able to pay out hundreds of coins for a relatively small investment (ie. how you can easily get hundreds of coins on Game Guy minigames for less than the price of a Star with an 8 times+ multiplier, like Roulette and Lucky 7) really puts the balance of the game in jeopardy. Battle and Duel minigames can sometimes straddle the line of what's acceptable towards the end of the game (especially if you're extremely short on coins whenever a 50-coin buy-in for a Battle starts), but at least those are coins that are already in the game at that point. Game Guy can easily break the economy of the game if someone wins. Like, there were multiple times growing up where I would win 300+ coins off of Lucky 7 within the first five turns of the board (30+ coins x 10), and the game was basically over at that point because aside from Bowser spaces there wasn't a snowball's chance anyone was catching up to that until near the end of the game unless they also won big off of Game Guy. As far as gameplay goes... honestly, they're all bad. One's a glorified coin flip, two are just picking options on a list with no strategy except looking at odds, and the other one... well, Lucky 7's the best one gameplay wise, but it still boils down to hitting dice twice (or only once if Game Guy goes over 7 and you don't want to risk going over yourself). They're really no different than any other bad luck-based minigame mentioned in the video (though at least they're quick unlike Gate Key-pers).
I will say that even though hudsonsoft didn't officially work on the later entries, they do have quite a bit of overlap with ndcube. The mp production team has been pretty consistent over the years, which makes the dark ages even more disappointing.
Great video as always! I especially agree with MP7, it's basically MP1's Single Player Minigame mechanic except manages to be worse in every conceivable way. Only one minigame, and it's more unbalanced since you can get up to 99 coins for free (unless the microphone decides to hate you in that moment and you lose 99 coins through no fault of your own). Like, how do you even do that. Small nitpick I have, at 6:45 you forgot Slime Time from 4. Understandable, it's a weird nothingburger of a masher, everyone remembers Domination way more, but it's special to me because it's the very first Mario Party minigame I played, in a Wal-Mart demo setup of all places. (Had no idea which game it actually was, and ended up buying all the other GC games except 4 lol, but hey one of those was 6 which is still my favorite)
“the only people who would defend [island tour] are people who had a 3ds as their first console and this as their first mario party game” damn,,, you didn’t have to call me out so hard,,,
15:17 As I’ve found out from watching Party Crashers (and only theorized before seeing it happen outright), there _is_ a time limit. Or rather, a finite amount of cards in the hat. Either way, getting the maximum 800 is stupidly easy because it takes so long to actually run out.
If it's not Gate Key-pers, then it's Slappy-Go-Round. As someone who's played this game for 142 hours at this point and has just 100%ed the entire game, it sucks. The meta of the game is to just react to your opponent, so if both you and your opponent know the strat, it just results in a draw. The duel minigame is great in concept, but it really sucks in reality. (Don't get me wrong though Gate Key-pers is definitely the worst by far, could not agree more.)
Slappy-Go-Round at least has mind games going for it, making it super fun against other players. And it's not like you HAVE to ground pound everytime you jump. You could bait them into trying to dodge your attack, but strike as soon as they reach the ground. It's tricky to do (especially if your opponent can predict you), but super satisfying once you pull it off.
The first time my friends and I played Gatekeepers in Jamboree, we thought it was bugged or that we were misunderstanding it because we chose the correct keys every single time for 7 games in a row. We calculated the odds of that and they were crazy
My group had a game of Gate key-pers where no one went to the wrong gate. The first three players all got the correct key and gate combo and the game was over before player 4 could even do anything. They argued on what the exact math for that was but everyone seemed to agree it was below 1% odds of happening.
Ok but if you didn't pick the right ones now he had an insane advantage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with luck based games in a fucking party game lmao
It was a pleasant surprise seeing a video from you before the holidays. Been watching your videos since high school I'm 24 now. Wish you a happy holidays, Silokhawk.
something i find funny about jamborees minigame selection is that its hyped up to have the largest selection of minigames but the number is heavily ballooned by all its extra modes and gimmicks. which means the selection of minigames actually playable on the boards is made out to be a lot smaller. also why is ndcube obsessed with the stupid quiz style minigames
First time I ever played Gate Key-pers, I went last and each of my friends guessed the correct key back to back so I didn't even get a chance to play. Worst minigame I've ever played in my life.
I was surprised that Gate Key-pers wasn't round based. Like, the first 3 who get the correct key move on to another set of gates and every round 1 player is removed until we have 1 winner. I think that would be have been a better game overall.
@@SupernalWanderer all they had to do to speed it up was to have everyone play at the same time. There absolutely no reason people should have to take turn in a minigame like that.
Gate keypers was the first game our group played when jamboree came out. We have a friend in the group who is notoriously unlucky so when he got picked 4th and all 3 of us first shotted the doors we genuinely thought that multiple keys worked per door or something. Until we got the game again later that night and unanimously laughed at him
19:54 I think I even hate the concept of this minigame because this is just bullying the fat or slow kid at recess/ gym class with a sub teacher whether you were that kid as the one being bullying or doing it, the one just never gets to have fun and it's like the three get to be Cranky Kong and tell the one to "Git gud"
For Jamboree, what if gate keepers was a free for all? Everyone picking keys at the same time and trying all the gates, but with a timer so nobydo can be held histage by that one player who doesnt want to drop the key... Or just punch them....
If it worked like the Mario Party 3 version I think it'd not make this list. that one may have some luck based on spawn position, but at least you can fight your way through. This one is just Bowser's Big Blast but you give your opponents information when you fail instead of failing immediately. and the fact that you have to win in the Solo mode just makes it a "keep trying til your lucky" time waster...I got LUCKY that I won first try.... but I knew then and there I never wanted to see that minigame again.
Gatekeepers being so poorly designed is what allowed me to win my first game of Jamboree while going against my two brothers and one of them’s girlfriend so I will forever be grateful to it for that.
The mic minigame reminds me of that PS2 game Lifeline where you control the protagonist with mic commands that was super unreliable. Come to find out, that game works great if you put on a Japanese accent, as the game was tested by Japanese playtesters. Makes me wonder if the mic minigame would work better with a Japanese accent.
Another thing about Fish and Drips is it’s been shown to cheat in favor of the one. I think there’s a TRG clip where the single player finishes after the team of three, but since his animation is faster, he wins.

"Disappointment in the game of life."
@Jaco-his That's normal behavior from the Party Crashers
This makes northernlion's group's insistence on picking it extra funny to me
The reason Mario Party 8 has so many duel minigames is because the story mode is exclusively duel mode. So you’re incentivized to play a ton of 1v1 parties in a row to unlock the final board and both of the secret characters.
Also the Duelo candy exists so people can force duels to happen more frequently
For DS, there's an infamous mic strat where you just rub your finger left and right across the mic. That effectively turns toppling terror into a weird mutation of a button mashing minigame. In toppling terror's defense though, the whomp can do a fakeout where it's about to fall on top of one team, just to quick flip the other way and crush the other team, which is absolutely hilarious.
Also, shoutouts to DS download play letting 4 people play from a single cartridge.
I just blew into the mix lol
My sister's and I always set it to no mic cuz some of our DS's didn't work
I'm so mad they never brought back Download Play😩 I know it's 'cause Nintendo's money hungry nowadays, but I had some real fond memories playing DS games with friends and my cousins back in the day
To be fair to DS, one of the best minigames somehow IS a Mic one. Short Fuse is really only a tangential mic game, because the goal is actually to NOT blow out your mic. It’s basically a game of chicken with a bomb fuse, where you want to blow the fuse very specific amounts to either save yourself or screw over your opponents. Lots of mind games to be played, making it one of the most skill-based minigames in the series, and my personal favorite.
it's really long tho, you gotta It do 3 times for each player that gets blown up
@mrpiccionedivino5598I mean sure but It it is a duel mini game and it is intense all the way imo so it’s justified being a bit long
@mrpiccionedivino5598same could be said to the bowser bomb game, where everyone else needs to pick the wrong lever too. Atleast here you got influence over the outcome
I would say that all of the mic minigames on DS is solid, but I would say the weakest minigame from every minigame and the mic minigame for this game is Gusty Blizzard.
No way, I would’ve never expected you to be here
I really appreciate how you waste no time and get right into the video.
@@GarbageFire13I don’t mind intros, but I would agree that if you are familiar with the topic you might be inclined to skip those sections

My friends and I actually had the opposite problem with 7's mic minigame. We never had any issues with the mic and the game is super easy, so it essentially became a free "double your coins" space for basically no effort.
I don’t think I would count that as a mini game. I would count that as a single player board event.
Yeah that's been my experience too. It's just so basic, especially when you get just 3 cards. But almost every time the CPUs fail the minigame somehow (except like Master difficulty).
@@jaykebird2goIf you get three cards then you are in fourth place I believe

24:20 The "Top" 100 is a thing added by the localisation team. It is called Mario Party: 100 Minigame Collection in Japan.
Good because I don’t think there’s a single soul who would put The Beat Goes On and Crate and Peril in the TOP 100 MINIGAMES. The title being “100 Minigame Collection” makes more sense
I mean, the original name is even dumber. Why exactly would you pick 100 random mini games instead of...you know...the best ones....
So how did they decide which 100 to add?
That makes sense, especially since the more accurate title would have been 'Mario Party: The Top Up To 99 Plus The Beat Goes On For Some Reason'.
That's more honest but completely baffling in and of itself.

Let alone in a Mario Party after the first few.
At least the bad mini games in the first couple games have the excuse of it being relatively early on and the developers experimenting at the time

I had to play Gate Key-pers in the story mode where you have to get first place and it took me ELEVEN tries to finally do it
I accidentally got it first try by mashing A and it just so happened that the first key went with the first door. I hadn't realized I won until I looked up from my phone 5 seconds later and realized I had already taken my turn and the gateway was blocked.
It took me thirteen for the 1v3 where you had to hide and the ai guess to hit you with a hammer

11:40 thanks for using my old video. I was 18 at the time this was filmed but yeah the mic is really nitpicky. My brother had a similar issue where he didn’t say bananas he said banana and it didn’t count it
I remember another channel 2M4G where the one guy photoshopped different items on the fruits in editing twice and managed to win both times
The same thing happened to me one time. I said 'Grape' and the game counted it as a wrong answer 😡
I grew up on Mario Party DS, but this video is the first time I've ever heard of people playing the mic minigames by screaming rather than blowing.
It just feel like making everyone else waste time
Seeing Line in the Sand work as intended is actually surreal after that 20+ Minutes live
Flip the chimp....never again....
Actual nightmare
You said it. Those friggin chimp screeching noises everytime you get bonked by coconut.
At least someone else gets it. I hate that minigame too.
One of the worst mini games I have ever played, and I’ve played the majority of the games in the series
SAME! My husband and I play this all the time and he’s never figured it out and I always end up winning 🤣
They put Toadsworth in charge of microphone minigames and he could only be bothered to come up with one? And people wonder why Peach fired him.
The mini game doesn't work because he's hard of hearing
arent you supposed to blow into the mic rather than scream in it in Mario Party DS?
it actually makes the mic games a lot easier, even against expert NPCs which are known for being impossible to beat in some games
Yes exactly, I’ve never heard of somehow who screamed into the mic for those games
Then again, spinning control sticks with your palm is way more painful despite being an objectively better strategy as well so what do I know?
well, blowing the mic is easier and only needs a bit of breath, but by the end of it, you might be screaming at it
12:54 I loved Mario Party DS growing up, and I still do. And I never really had an issue with the mic games, mainly because I figured out all you had to do what just press your finger against the mic and the DS still registered that as a "input". I never understood at the time, and I honestly don't remember how I figured that out, but that was my go-to move if I had to play a mic mini game lol
I always blew against the microphone for the same thing
Mine was blowing really softly. It was always max power. Plus I was a clarinet player as a kid so my breathing control meant I could make it through a minigame without breathing or only taking one breath
This video is only slightly longer than a run of "The Beat Goes On" with good players, and this was actually worth my time unlike that minigame.

I swear, you might be one of the few people that knows this. Hudson never really left. They just lost their touch.
damn, looks like wii party is on the house tonight
I think the problem with the GCN mic is that it's looking for the higher pitches of their target demographic. The bonus card game never gave me any trouble when I played 14 years ago.
Mario Party 9 must have the best minigames because youtube loves promoting those to kids. Look them up dozens to hundreds of millions of views.
While the minigame selection is really good, it might also be because it was the most recent Mario Party when TH-cam really hit it's stride.

@thatoneguy9582 Ohh so that's how you describe it
I kinda like it for some reason
I don't know why the handle is appearing as just text but it's pissing me off
I think it's because 9 has a really colourful and clean look to it. The jump from 8 to 9 is very noticeable visually.
Nah, I think you could do that with a lot of Mario games in general. Then again, I probably was one of those kids.
How ARE you supposed to use the microphone then?
13:13 you never have to scream though? Its exactly like the other mic minigames you just have to blow. You dont have to scream i dont know where your getting that from?
Gate Key-pers is actual torture in the story mode. I had to play it at least 30 times to win.
14:26 I believe the reason MP8 features so many dual minigames is due to the Duel Battle mode. Otherwise I see no reason.
8 also has several minigames that can be played as duels, but were not exclusively that mode.
There is a duel candy, which serves with the purpose of allowing you to challenge the first person you come across after rolling two dice. That’s probably why so there’s more options.
8:48 I dunno. Everything being in complete chaos as you and your friends try to ground pound buttons and each other sounds pretty fun.
Mario Party 3 has a minigame called Cheep Cheep Chase that is quite literally impossible to win against super hard cpus. As a result, i believe that has to be the worst minigame!
is it actually impossible? Or just extremely difficult and theres maybe a few people out there that can beat it

For me MP1’s worst is definitely Bash ‘n Cash.
It's dumb.
the worst mp1 minigame is definitely the 1v3 tug-o-war
that one is notorious for destroying joysticks because of how the minigame is played. nintendo even sent out special gloves to some people who were injured from using their palms to rotate the stick really fast
Nah man, the mic minigames in Mario Party DS aren’t even that bad, the worst minigame is Trace Cadets for sure
Trace Cadets isn't even bad, it's a basic game where you trace shapes, nothing wrong with that
@ the problem with that minigame is that drawing the shapes never works
Right? It's basically impossible with expert CPUs
Oh yeah, that minigame sucks… Tbh Trace Cadets and Soil Toil are probably the weakest DS minigames in my opinion
Still to this day, I don’t know how beat Trace Cadets on the DS.
i really enjoy don’t wake wiggler for the stress rationale you discussed for luck games. also it’s fish and *drips*!! 5:09
That one's a bit too stressful for me. I'm here for enjoyable stress, not downright terror and anxiety.
Who thought having people rotate the stick was a good idea?
on solid plastic (N64 controller) is horrible.. it's better on the switch joystick than the original
And then bringing the same minigame back for Mario Party Top 100, when the 3DS Circle Pad is also prone to breaking if you’re too rough with it
It was me. In hindsight it wasn't a very good plan
Probably someone as stupid as the people who would willingly give themselves blisters to win Mario Party.
16:52
it's a shame that bowser jr's boss was mentioned here since that battle includes arguably the best song in MP9's soundtrack (the one that plays when jr's mad)
it's good but my favorite has gotta be phase 2 of bowser's boss minigame, it puts pressure on ya in the best way possible
I liked the minigame but the song got repitive quick for me.
Island Tour always just felt like "Baby's first Mario Party" To me.
And how is that a bad thing? Not every game has to be catered to hardcore adult and teenage gamers. Some games can just be for kids.
@@chefboyardeebeefaronilover I mean metaphorically! Like, it's the kind of Mario Party where you buy it to get a taste for the series. Then you buy the newest one, realise how (quite frankly) terrible Island Tour was compared to it and then burn it in the street
Mario Party 7 at LEAST has the option to make it so you don't need a mic to play mic minigames, and opt for a menu instead
But now that it works, the minigame is Too easy, and because it's double or nothing-- I selected Banana and now im up 99+ coins
And what do you think of the gameplay of the Game Guy minigames?
on the bright side, game guy might have turned a lot of kids away from gambling
@@Underworlder5 I know it did for me. That and games like Fire Emblem and XCOM really helped drive home the reality of how low a 50% chance really is.
@@fortynights1513 Looks like my original response got shadowbanned, so let's try this again:
It would have absolutely been better, though the potential rewards would still be too much.
Bro Game Guy stresses me out SO badly whenever I play 3 😭
Thank you!
Yeah I goofed and forgot the mini even existed lol, let alone the fact it's in MP4 specifically 😅
12:08 I never played MP7 and I am slightly frustrated watching how bad the GameCube mic is. I feel this man’s rage.
It's tricky to do (especially if your opponent can predict you), but super satisfying once you pull it off.
i saw this video recommended and my half rotted brain was just like
>minigame is called "beat goes on"
>minigame goes on
>complains
>????
he didn't even complain about beat goes on lol
Super Mario Party's minigames are so good
Wiggler jumpscare that traumatized me as a kid aside
It was a pleasant surprise seeing a video from you before the holidays. Been watching your videos since high school I'm 24 now.
Wish you a happy holidays, Silokhawk.
something i find funny about jamborees minigame selection is that its hyped up to have the largest selection of minigames but the number is heavily ballooned by all its extra modes and gimmicks. which means the selection of minigames actually playable on the boards is made out to be a lot smaller.
also why is ndcube obsessed with the stupid quiz style minigames
"My Mario Party has no pathetic games, but it does contain the unstoppable Paddle Battle!"
Yeah, it could've been fun like the Mario Party 3 version ,but instead it's just Bowser's Big Blast but somehow worse....
Round based would have made MUCH more sense if they could have sped it up somehow, for sure.
@@SupernalWanderer all they had to do to speed it up was to have everyone play at the same time. There absolutely no reason people should have to take turn in a minigame like that.
Mpiq sucks but it doesn't grind the entire game to a halt like mp7 mic game does.
Gate keypers was the first game our group played when jamboree came out. We have a friend in the group who is notoriously unlucky so when he got picked 4th and all 3 of us first shotted the doors we genuinely thought that multiple keys worked per door or something. Until we got the game again later that night and unanimously laughed at him
One thing I really hate about the modern Switch Mario Parties is that during minigames, the characters NEVER SHUT UP
*moves hand one centimeter* "HUH!"
I thought I was the only one who thought that 😭
On god, every single movement creates a voice sound effect. Coin minigames are especially annoying…
