    Looks like the haybine was cutting very well. A few years ago I helped a custom hay baler. I operated one of his Heston self propelled swathers. It was a rotary cutter. Most of the fields I did were 120 acre pivots. I could cut it all in about 7 hours. Swather would run 14.5 mph. Swather had AC, AMFM stero and business band 2 way radio. Enjoyed helping him. I did so 2 seasons. Good friend now. In fact one of my grandsons works for him in a trailer repair shop as a beginner welder. 👍👍

      That sounds like a great machine! I almost bought a discbine last year but as little as I cut hay I figured I’d just stick with this.

      @@rosstheoliverman if you find one for a good price, I’d take it personally. We cover around 100 acres first cut and it makes things so much more productive without sacrificing job quality. A little used 6 footer behind one of the 16s would make a good match and leave a little growth potential if you were to pick up more ground since you could pull it faster

    Those "$400 sickles" among other things, really make me question try to keep running a haybine instead of buying a discbine. These wear parts are starting to get outlandish, and in my sandy ground I get around 100 acres out of a knife before the sections get thin and start breaking, and 300-400 acres out of a set of guards and hold downs before the start getting dull and cutting ragged.

      I definitely noticed the difference with the new sickle. You can hear the wobble box going clickety-clack while it’s cutting, and with the new sickle it’s almost silent. I could always tell with the other one when it was about to plug up because you could hear the pattern of the clickety-clack slowing down.

    • @rosstheoliverman

    Love it! I ran haybine behind my Fordson Diesel Major, the only problem with that tractor is it does not have enough front end to handle long or offset implements. Even with weights. Wheel base is too short. I would love a diesel 1650 or 1655 for making hay. I don't really have a problem with gas tractors, my problem is if you buy gas in the spring, it's good for 3 months before it is breaking down causing issues. I've been making the switch to diesel because it stores better.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! If you get three months out of gas you’re doing good. I don’t think our gas last much over a few weeks. If it does you lose most of it to the air. The diesel fuel does stay around, but if it sits too long it turns into a solid. I’ve cleaned out stuff that was like glue that used to be diesel fuel. I wish they would give us good fuel like used to.

A tank of gas in it lasts about 2wks.
