    Points used to last me ten years. The first tractor I ran into that I couldn't get points to last more than a few hours was a 3020 Deere then a Super M Farmall. Now they're just Chinesium garbage. We put electronic ignition in that 3020 about 25 years ago and never had to touch it again.

    I have my dads 1650 he bought new in 1966 it was our big tractor for some years so work hard and it always run hot . It still is very snappy and lots power for 1650.

    You might have to go on the road with this healing power with you. I can see large gatherings of tractors brought to you for help. You did a good job diagnosing the problem with the electronic ignition. Also, I enjoyed watching you working on the wiring behind the dash. That is my weakest area and I learned some things by watching. Great video.

    The laying of the hands and beseeching intervention from the apostle Sam White was a repair technique I had never seen before. I will use that technique as it is by far my best bet at fixing anything!

    Our Lady of Perpetual Spark recommends points. Can I get an amen?
    As to running hot... I can't explain it, every 310 I have will run towards the hot side of the gauge, unless I leave the radiator cap loose enough that it can't build pressure, then they run fine. If I tighten the cap back down after it is up to temp, it will stay running cooler. My best guess is the pressure somehow slows coolant down or redirects it. I have the cap loose on the 1655 and it runs fine as well.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amen my brother. The spark will set you free!!! I’ve tried almost everything. On my 1655 I even tried it without a thermostat and then tried it by restricting the flow even more than the thermostat just to see if it was moving too quickly. It’s a strange puzzle and it never did that before the last rebuild. I just sort of wrote it off as some scientific stuff about the properties of the alloy of metal they used that I don’t understand.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It needs a resistor like they put on the 2050s and 2150s. Don't like the reading, change it!

    I use the pertronix when I have to, but I agree that they should be higher quality. The points that I get now seem to oxidize almost overnight

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know, I think the quality of the point material is worse than it used to be. They corrode in no time if you leave them sit.

    Are neighbor has a 1600 gas he brought it to me said it been running not hot but warmer then before. Checked all the normal things came to the answer was poor fuel octane he just was running ethanol blended fuel he called his fuel guy they brought him 87 grade fuel . Was getting there 94 premium fuel , drained old fuel put new in ran just fine . It also would vapor lock with the other fuel when hot. From turkey creek farms be safe n thankful

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it! This “cheap” fuel is awful. It’s obviously mostly water and it gets worse the longer it sits. I miss the good old days.

    Acrrding to temp gauge my 1550 runs warm, My 1650 doesn't. Both have been overhauled. The 1650 around 75or so and 1550 in the 80's both done at the same dealer. Most 1650 make more HP than they are supposed to.

    Have you ran into any problems with engine oil pumps on the gas 1650s? I was told years ago by the local dealer at the time that they are no longer available. Apparently, valve train kits are harder to find now too for this engine

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t personally had any problems with them. Parts can be hard to find for different things but if you know where to look you can usually come up with it. Somebody’s got it on the shelf if you just call the right friend who knows the right friend

    I have pertronix kits on all my Farmalls with distributors. I haven’t had any issues knock on wood but, I do think the design on that tractor needs some improvement though. Could you just run a ground wire to that plate?

    • @rosstheoliverman

      You could but the big issue I have is that it wouldn’t stay in one place. Every movement changes the timing slightly. I hope my solution fixed it. You’ll see that in the next episode.
