    In the very first episode of Lion Guard, I think they said that Nalas dad was a member of Scars Lion Guard, and we know what happened to them in the end. Luckily for Simba and Nala, Nala had already been born when her dad died.

    Now I feel bad for Nala, I wonder if she ever questioned who her father was and her mother couldn’t answer because she was either too shameful or she was forced to keep her mouth shut. Talk about father issues.

      Most likely not; lions are not as patriarchal in their parenting as humans are. In the wild, lion cubs are raised solely by their mothers, while the father rarely (if ever) contributes. A lion cub needs his or her mother to feed, teach, protect, and nurse him or her. However in the Lion King, both Simba and Nala's mothers are sidelined; Nala's own mother was only in one scene; Mufasa was the one teaching Simba everything, while Sarabi was constantly in the background, totally contrary to real life. This obviously was done to fit the human audience (since in our species fathers are upheld as heros while mothers are undermined and ignored).
      Lions are not like humans; where mothers are made to feel inadequate just because there is no father around.... Children are made out to be "doomed" without a father, leaving the mother feeling like she isn't enough. Lions may be patriarchal in every other way; but atleast when it comes to parenting, that is one domain where the mother is more than enough in her own right; unlike in humans; where fathers are everything and mothers have no importance aside from giving birth.

    Actually, there are occasional two or more males to a pride, often brothers that set off on their own *better success for hunting/pride taker overs* I watch alot of nature docs. Disney has specified her father is some un-known lion. With Scars guard, Mufasa was not a member because Rafiki states that Scar lost the power of the roar when he used it to destroy his guard when they wouldn't help him take down Mufasa.

    ...FINALLY a theory video from you on my absolute FAVORITE thing from Western Animation...and about my favorite character to top it off! 8D
    Adding to your theory, one thing I noticed is that The Lion Guard takes place in between 1 and 2. The Lion Guard mentions Nala's father had a role similar to Kion's and also mentions that Scar had "the roar" stripped from him. However, there would need to be another lion to take over after him and I think that lion was Nala's father (which would have given Scar even more of a reason to get him in trouble like you suggested.)
    I suggest this because there is another theory asking where Kion was in 2 and one of the answers was that he went off to make his own pride. In real life, when male cubs come of age, they typically leave the pride. This means that when Kiara came of age, because Kion was not the first born, he likely had to leave and become the leader of another pride of lions (note that he could have challenged Simba and Kiara for this position, but he loves his family.)
    Therefore, I think what the writers are hinting at is something along the lines of this:
    -Nala's father was a cub who was brought into the pride by one of the lionesses sometime in between Ahadi's and Mufasa's reigns.
    -During Mufasa's reign, Nala's father came of age and instead of challenging Mufasa for the position of alpha male, left to make his own pride.
    -Sarafina loved him but had to stay behind instead of joining his new pride because she was pregnant.
    -Because Sarafina's cub was around the same age as Simba, Nala was declared Simba's betrothed and she chose to stay with the rest of her pride instead of finding the new one Nala's father made.

    in reality it is most likely Mufasa. Thats how it works in the wild anyways. Either mufasa or scar, because it in male lions instinct to kill other lions cubs except their own. Sometimes there is 2-3 male lion brothers that get a pride together and that may work. So according to that Nala must be either Mufasa or Scars daughter. The reason they didnt mention that in the movies was because they wanted to censor incest from kids

    My theory is this, since the idea of Mufasa being Nala's father really seems to really rub some people the wrong way then she is could be one surviving offspring of the previous pride leader, Mufasa kept her alive so he could mate her. Really the depiction of lion culture is what makes the Lion King such a great movie in my opinion, and that is why i dislike the expanded universe. At the end of the Lion King we know how the next one will play out, when his sons become old enough to rival him, he will kick them out and after a time wandering on their own some may return and fight Simba one will die and the circle will continue. It is not like Zootopia where the animals stand in for humans, the animals in the Lion King are just animals.

    • @GeteMachine
      @GeteMachine 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well I thought of that too but its technically impossible because Nala and Simba are around the same age and the only cubs of the pride. The Lion king also doesn't really represent lion culture at all because Simba went back to his birth pride and procreated there which is opposite to what most pack animals do. The problem with Lion king is that its too humanized to really be lion culture as you describe. In comparison Nala is portrayed as the girl next door who in human logic wouldn't be related to the main character just in frequent proximity. Also Mufasa keeping her alike so he could mate with her is a bit far fetched due to age. Keeping her around for Simba would still be farfetched as well because they are the same age. All reasonable evidence has to imply they are cousins..

      @bearlyrandom4462 6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @GeteMachine
    @GeteMachine 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As hard as it is to theorize this while keeping up with lion facts (which the movie didn't really do too much with), Nala's father would have had to be either Mufsa or a different line not around anymore. You'd have to reach a bit to I guess say maybe, the males were from different prides or estranged from prides as the loser of a fight for one, or just males that abnormally formed their own pride together or something due to territory shortage and the remainder of the lion guard are Scar and Mufasa. Maybe if you stretched it Nala's father was a lion who conceived her around the time Mufasa mated with Sarabi, but has died before the movie.
    The theory that Pride rock was originally a merged pride of some sort is the best explanation. Your theory on Scar 'assassinating' the other kings prior could have been an awesome prequel. Maybe he left Mufasa alone because as his brother he probably defended him seeing as how skinny his is by comparison, as in the books Scar was seen very poorly by others already. Though I think their dynamic would have worked better if Scar was older to explain why he was so frail thus did his dealing and that his darker mane technically comes with age, unlike Mufasa and Simba.

  • @misspinkpunkykat
    @misspinkpunkykat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There were also a series of comic books where other lions were mentioned. But I always thought Nala's father was Ni or died before the events of Lion King. It is also possible for a male lion to not have a mane. Maybe one of those "lionesses" in the background is actually Nala's dad?

    With the remake's release this passed weekend I've kinda taken a bit of an interest in such topics, and so far in what I've found, i like your theory on Nala's father best. I definitely don't think Scar's her father, and with it being Disney it makes sense that Mufasa isn't her father either, so hints like this are pleasing to me.

    Omg I never even thought about Nala’s father. This is such an interesting theory. Do you think it’s possible that some of the lionesses agreed with scar’s rule? I remember in the Lion King 2, Zira was the mother of Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu. In her song “Lullaby”, she makes it clear that she is the alpha female. She is also physically abusive to Nuka (poor thing) who is the oldest male lion we see in Zira’s pride. In the second film, during the battle between prides, the numbers are fairly even. Do you think this detracts from the possibility that Nala’s father’s pride absorbed most of the lionesses from Scar’s reign?

  • @indiasanders7734

    The way I see it , lion king’s pride ( kingdoms) loosely follow the pride tradition ( Christmas in the lion king universe is weird on its own) and that some cubs like Tama, Chumvi , Tojo and Kula were fathered by members of Scar’s lion guard.
    I think Napa’s father was probably a cub who had a a father from the lion guard during Ahadi’s region and never got to be on Scar’s guard team ( or maybe was and got killed by Scar when he roared away his Guard)
    In my head cannon I named Nala’s father Kopa and he wanted to be a member of the lion guard but didn’t make the team.

    An even later comment to the party, sorry! The Lion King is totally messed up in regards to actual lion behavior, so realistically Mufasa would be both Nala and Simba's father, and Simba would likely eventually leave to form his own pride. I've heard people theorize Scar is Nala's father (her eyes are green in some parts of the movie... but sometimes are greenish-blue or straight-up blue, so ???) but that would make him trying to seduce her in the deleted Madness of King Scar scene pretty sketch for Disney. And as a lower ranking lion Mufasa would likely never allow him to breed (if I recall correctly, even if brothers rule a pride together, there is usually one "alpha" type and that one will do all or most of the breeding - but don't quote me on that). Mufasa was never in The Lion Guard as it's stated traditionally the role of leader of the Lion Guard (the Fiercest) went to a King/Queen's male sibling (and it was stated in The Lion Guard that Scar was the leader of the Guard for a while [in "How I Got My Scar"] before losing his title and the Guard disbanded). He used the Roar on his fellow Guardsmen (Guardslions...?) and I can't recall if that killed them or not, in which case they would be dead before they could father Nala in the timeline to be around the same age as Simba - and they knew about Scar's early plot to take over the Pridelands so I assume they died, otherwise they probably would have told Ahadi. (Again - it's been definitively stated by Disney that Six New Adventures is non-canon...) - love your videos, you've got a new subscriber!

    Can you make a video on Nala's and Simba's Mothers please? Since both mothers are sidelined (contrary to nature) and are only lionesses with names on. Sarafina is only in one scene, only has one line, and is only named in the credits. Sarabi fares little better; having very little exchange with her own child.
    I know this is done to fit the audience, and make it more relatable to our own human interpretations and celebration and praise of fathers and undermining of mothers; and don't get me wrong, this movie is still one of my favourites of all time despite the innaccuracies. But, asking where Nala's father is, is kind of irrelevent when we've barely established who her mother is... You know, the one who takes care of and feeds her; teaches her how to be a lion....
    Her father is most likely Mufasa or Scar, since she is the same age as Simba; but it is probably not mentioned since firstly: Nala is a female and minor character, so her parentage is less important (her own mother only has one scene); and secondly: since her father is either Simba's father or uncle; that makes their relationship incestuous... So for the sake of decency, they probably left it ambiguous.

    Lions in the wild dont marry siblings. Nala's father can be mufasa & scar's cousin or an unrelated older lion who had been their tutor when they were at their bachelor's pride. Seeing a lot of lionesses at the beginning of the movie can mean that there used to be more than 2 males before. What happened to the other male(s) is opened for imagination... nala's father can be captured by humans some time before nala's birth. That opens more possibilities for story devlpment.

  • @TessTheLioness
    @TessTheLioness 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, The Lion Guard says "Nala's father was saved by the Lion Guard of his time" MAYBE that lions are not Scar's guard, but his uncle's guard. I mean, the leader of the Lion Guard is the second in born, so Uru or Ahadi have a brother and his guard is the one which saved Nala's father, as they are just cubs, previous Lion Guard have to give the power to the next when he is on age or something. I don't think Mufasa is one of the members in Scar's guard because in the first episode/movie Scar told the guard to destroy Mufasa, but they didn't and so he used the roar to his own members and lose the power.

    • @TessTheLioness
      @TessTheLioness 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to think Nala's father is from a nearby pride which needed help from Mufasa's and the betrothed of Nala and Simba is because of this. Nala's father and Sarafina had their family in the Pridelands but when Scar was the king he exiled every male and male cubs

    The other females could have wandered far for food and then joined another pack. With one detail you didnt mention is if there's a young male lion who is alone and trying to make it in his new world, he will try to create his own pack and basically woo himself Into lionesses lives who seem to not have a leader. And being that scar is horrible, it was probably an easy decision to let the younger ambitious lion take control of them and ditch scar. I watched some documentary on TH-cam about a white lion and tracking the Lions life. Learned a lot about that haha. It was like a soap opera with young lions trying to win over the girls against other lions haha

  • @meganlodon

    Nala's father is a rogue lion by the name of Matootaa via The Lion Guard, and even though The Lion Guard is not canon, know that Simba's Pride and the books are not canon either according to Disney. Despite all of this, neither Mufasa or Taka can be Nala's father. Her mother, Sarafina, has green eyes while she has blue eyes. Yes, she had green eyes as a cub, but Simba had yellow eyes as a cub rather than the red eyes he has as an adult. Also, if Kovu is not Taka's father, then where did he get green eyes? And, where did Vitani, who was born in the Pridelands during Taka's reign before Kovu's birth, get her purple eyes?

    • @meganlodon
      @meganlodon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@No-hd4cg Yeah, looking it up now, I don't know where I found the name Matootaa as legit. Looking for it now, he's a fanon. I know I wouldn't have mentioned the name if it was tied to a fanfic, so I don't know where I originally found it. Anyway, I also know that in the original scripted TLK, when it was called King Of The Jungle, Mufasa was heavily implied to be the father, but they abandoned that (for obvious reasons). So, one may see that as a deleted scene of sorts, but since they abandoned that idea during script writing, I see it as no longer canon.
